If you are looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant experience then this is the place. From the moment you step through the door, you are met with a very relaxing environment: clean, well lit without being bright, and surprisingly spacious. We were sat by the window and found the seating very comfortable and sturdy. The view out of our window was mediocre but it didn't take away from our experience. Now, the food. We ordered sashimi, miso soup, rice, and seaweed salad. The plates were beautifully presented and very artistic. The miso soup and seaweed were delicious, which was a very good sign. The sashimi, was some of the best quality we have had in CT and this restuarant serves REAL Wasabi. We gambled and ordered Toro (fatty tuna) and were not disappointed. It was easily the best fatty tuna we have had in the US (better than expensive Manhattan toro), and was only beat out by Tokyo. The mackerel was also exquisite, and had a much lighter flavor than other mackerel with hints of ginger. Their fish quality was amazing. The service was also spectacular, quick, friendly, and kind. All in all, this is easily one of the best japanese restaurants we have been to and it deserves a chance, especially if you love sushi. Do not miss out, stop by today! read more

Excellent will be back. Very tasty garlic chicken. They have a nice sized lunch menu that I appreciate very much. I dislike very large portions and still had leftovers from the lunch portion. My husband had shrimp pad Thai and he had leftovers as well. We also had guyoza that was nice. The meals came with miso soup and a salad. Mine also had a choice of white and brown rice. Drove 25 minutes here Tonight to take my daughters for hibachi. Great, clean place. The cooks and owner are paying attention to the details,. Every dish that went out was beautifully presented. The best part of the evening was that the hibachi Chef actually put a lot of effort into it! He took his time and was a lot of fun! Bravo Lately, the hibachi chefs we've been to (in Hamden) have seemed not to care about what they're doing and loose energy fast, cutting out the fun parts. Lots of fun things to look at decor-wise. A friend and I decided to order a bunch of "sharable" appetizers. We had the Scallion pancake, tender, delicious served around a mini salad with the best ginger based dressing! Beef Negimaki, steak around scallions with sauce, was beefy, tender and very tasty! Shrimp Tempura was my favorite - deep fried jumbo shrimp with onion asparagus and sweet potato all delightfully coated with this LIGHT crispy coating - not greasy at all! Just so good! Veggie dumplings with sauce were tender and excellent. Crab Rangoon was good - crab meat, cream cheese and scallions inside a fried dough - delicious! Every plate was also very beautiful, too. A random google search led my date and I to Misimi. We got there a little after 9:30p on a Saturday night and surprisingly we were the only ones there. We didn't mind though it was nice having a restaurant all to ourselves, and not having to worry about a long wait time. The interior is really nice and makes for a great date night. The staff were really nice and respectful. Our waiter was hospitable and so was our chef. The chef did however appear to be in training so the experience wasn't the best as far as hibachi entertainment goes especially compared to a let's say: Benihana--but we definitely understood that he was training so it was okay. Our food was delicious on the other hand and I do believe I got a pretty good bang for my buck. I'd return and hope that the chef will be more experience upon my next visit but overall delightful experience. read more

Went for lunch yesterday . I had the 2 roll special. They serve this with miso soup and salad with Ginger dressing. I am not a miso fan so I substituted their mushroom soup. The soup is good but a little salty. The salad was fresh and I love the ginger dressing. The sushi rolls were very good. The fish was very fresh. I have been here many times and every time I go I switch off from Hibachi to traditional Japanese food. If your in the area I would definitely check this place out. read more

I was grabbing some Peachwave enjoying a nice spring day when I noticed some hubbub outside the old Asian Bistro. Previous owner Bo has come back to restore this prime happy hour location to its old glory. We got a tour of the cleaning and upgrades he did to the place and very quickly my plans of leftovers for dinner turned into a great hibachi dinner with wonderful friends and family! The fine details have taken an upgrade! The mushroom soup was flavorful, the salad was more than just iceberg lettuce and ginger dressing, there was arugula and other things that I devoured too quickly to notice. The hibachi dinner was better than I remember! Steaks were fresh and a good portion. Chicken, shrimp scallops all looked fresh, smelled & looked great before being cooked, and tasted just as wonderful. Even the ginger sauce looked homemade and tasted better than the usual fare. Had reservations on the 11th. 7pm the hostess was far from personable. After no greeting she said we will be seating you shortly. At 7:40 we asked again . Now 12 people waiting behind us. At this point she could have said would you like a drink at the bar? Would you mind taking a non hibachi table(which should habe been offered) as she knew but didn't say. They were just cooking the food for about 15 people per hibachi table. Says little longer. Ok 815 still no table and once we realized they only have couple hibachi tables and cram a ton of people in. I used to go to Asian bistro back in the day .. but this place has changed looks the same but the food is not as good smaller portions & bad quality But what I was upset at was my sashimi had a fish bone in it. I told the waitress she asked what piece had a bone in it like she even cared then did nothing not even a single piece of sushi or sashimi. Or any discount just that's what get the rest is fine be happy I assumed she said The sushi and sashimi for two was good except the bone and the skin on the sea bass. Once again returned for my birthday this year. Our chef was very animated and entertaining. Our waitress was very busy that night but you could tell she was trying her hardest and was wonderful. The manager here is so nice and makes you feel so welcome. As soon as we sat down with a couple other people at our table he came over and said hello and shook our hands. A few min later he returned to the table apologizing and asking us to switch over to a different table across from us. We of course said absolutely, not a problem at all. He then said for the inconvenience he would comp our drinks which was unnecessary but very appreciated. The food was excellent as we expected, but we were a bit disappointed as it seems like the portions have gotten smaller... we remembered getting quite a bit more rice and noodles and vegetables. What a waste of money. New to Shelton and figured I'd give the top rated sushi spot a try. Where to begin. It was a to go order including various sushi rolls and one chicken habachi entree. The rolls were far too small, almost like mini size. The habachi chicken was the worst we have had in our entire lives. Bland, soaked in water, and don't even get me started on the noodles. The food wasn't bad but the customer service was terrible. I stood in the lobby for 30mins waiting for my food and no one even said a word to me but would talk to the people who came in after me. Only reason I got my food was because I went up to the table and found my name then went up to the lady and interrupted her doing nothing and told her my order is there. I have some fish/shellfish allergies so I ordered a chicken tempura roll and a spicy tuna roll (a fish I CAN eat.) The website says nothing about topiko on either of these but I ordered and what do you know, topiko on both. Seems pretty dangerous to just add stuff to menu items without letting customers know. I can kinda understand on the spicy tuna but On the CHICKEN though? What genius thought that was a good idea? Went to Misimi for the first time since it was the Old Asian bistro. I had the sushi combo and my wife had the sesame chicken. Both were fantastic as well as the edamame starter. Service was good. The edamame was forgotten and served with our entrees but no biggie. Will definitely go back again. read more
