Nothing like a beautiful day spent outside!…read more My family and I went to pick cherries at Levering Orchard this past weekend. The drive alone is worth it with beautiful mountains and open roads. Levering Farm has various seasons where you can go and pick fruit on their beautiful property. From cherries to peaches to apples, you won't be disappointed. The owner is an absolute gem and his staff are so kind and helpful! The prices are also super cheap and overall it's just a fun thing to do with the family!

Genesis 8:3-4 When I was in Ararat today, looked around a bit, but did not find the ark. What I did find, however, was a family owned orchard with cherry trees LOADED with the most beautiful fruit--the best crop they've had in 10 years I was told. They have dozens of varieties, but I was not told which was which. Instead I was told: "Just follow this road up until you can't go no more. The best trees are the ones with the ladders leaned up in 'em". That was the extent of my instruction. Pure country. This place is indeed pure country, staffed by family and locals who are friendly and helpful. It is not fancy or high tech. It is pick-at-your-own-risk with, as I said, ladders leaned up in the trees. They do have pre-picked cherries if climbing ladders is not in your wheelhouse. The pick your own price is less than half of what you will pay in the grocery store. But let me hasten to add that these are not the firm, dark, "bing" type cherries you typically find in the store. These are a bit smaller and softer and thus don't have much of a shelf life. They are very reminiscent of the wild sweet cherries I used to pick in the mountains around Boone when I was a kid. And they make the most delightful pie or turnover or preserves, or... In addition to the wonderful cherries you can find at Levering Orchard, this area is beautiful, with bucolic farms and pastures and scenic mountain vistas. Definitely worth a trip.

I bought a gallon bucket of their strawberries and they are hands down THE BEST strawberries I have ever had. So sweet and juicy!! Staff informed me they sell all kinds of produce as it comes in season and raved on their melons and blackberries. I've been telling people to go up and take their kids because they have so many fun activities for the entire family along with selling cooked food items. The gallon bucket of strawberries were under $20 and for that price they are a good deal. I've been to some other berry farms in my area and they are charging more for berries half as good. I can't wait to go back

This is THE place for family "fall" activities! We picked a pumpkin from the patch, we picked fresh apples, we did the slides and swings and saw animals. We did the corn maze. We rode a "train" pulled by a tractor, played in the dirt, on the various playgrounds, played in a little barn... the list goes on. This place is a child's dream for a day of NC fall fun - and we all had a blast! Going forward, this will be a yearly fall destination!

Every summer, my wife enjoys fresh blueberries when they're in season. Rather than buying them from…read morethe grocery store as we usually do, we remembered Green Mesa Blueberry Farm and gave them a call to see what they offered. We learned that you can pick your own blueberries for $12 per gallon, or they'll pick them for you for $23 per gallon. My wife placed an order for a gallon of pre-picked berries, and this past weekend we made the drive to Boonville, NC. We spent some time exploring the area and stopped by the farm to pick up our order. When we arrived, no one was initially around, but we found a flat with my wife's name on it and simple instructions to leave payment in the honesty box. There's something refreshing and genuine about that kind of trust. Just as we were about to leave, Arlene and Joey arrived, and we had the pleasure of speaking with them. They were warm, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. We learned that Green Mesa is Arlene's family farm--she's the fourth generation to be there, which added a meaningful connection to the experience. Before we left, my wife also purchased one of their farm t-shirts and a bottle of their homemade blueberry vinaigrette. This is exactly the kind of local, authentic experience we love--one that combines great produce, kind people, and a sense of tradition. We'll definitely be back. Arlene also let us know she will likely have blueberries for the next few weeks and then the season will be over. Also, if you are in the Boonville area on July 4th, Arlene has a longstanding tradition of making blueberry smoothies at the farm, and they are delicious!
