The bartender greets you like an old friend, even if you've never been here before. He keeps a clean bar, tight and organized, every glass shining like it's got a reputation to uphold. People don't come to KJ Brewskies for the food. Sure, there's something hot and fried if you need it, but this isn't a place for plating or pretense. You come here for the people, the atmosphere, the simple comfort of a cold beer that doesn't cost you half a paycheck. The jukebox doesn't take quarters anymore -- progress, I suppose -- but the music's still good. Old country. Classic rock. Songs that sound better when they're a little too loud. Over in the corner, someone's lining up a pool shot. Darts whistle through the air. Shuffleboard pucks slide and kiss the end of the table with a satisfying clack. What makes this place special, though, is how it shifts with the seasons. When the weather turns warm, they throw open the doors and roll out the crawfish pots. It's all elbows, laughter, and the unmistakable smell of spice and beer in the air. Fall might bring a chili cook-off, winter maybe a small charity drive -- each one another excuse for the regulars and newcomers alike to gather, eat, drink, and remember what community feels like. KJ Brewskies isn't trying to be anything more than what it is. It's a good bar -- honest, lived-in, alive. It makes a lot of room to be seated, and you can see people on the other side in some places, for conversation. Pool tables appear to be in good repair. There's a smoking deck with tables out back which overlooks KY3 next door and a nice lawn - very pleasant out there. I had 3 pints of Bud, with tomato an the side, my daughter had 3 or 4 well vodka-waters with lime and the bill was just over $21 on a Tuesday afternoon. I really liked it because it was so relaxed. We arrived at the stroke of midnight and entered a nearly packed and fun venue. The bartenders were efficient and friendly. The indoor and outdoor spaces were much better than our late 80s early 90s college dive bars. The beer flowed in pitchers. Forgot about pitchers. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and it seemed like they cared more about getting customers out the door than actually providing good service. I don't understand how they stay in business treating paying customers like this. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this poorly run establishment.
