    Hushpuppies
    Quinney H.

Let me start by saying I'm a Mississippi native with a weakness for hush puppies and Southern-inspired cocktails made with bourbon, whiskey, lemonade, iced tea, and watermelon & peach purée. That was the hook that brought me and a friend to Miss Delta during our trip to Portland. We started our meal on a high note with cocktails and an order of hush puppies as an appetizer. The hush puppies were absolutely phenomenal, so we had high expectations for our entrees. My friend ordered brisket and a wedge salad for his meal, and I ordered a plate of sides with andouille sausage and two fried oysters. Unfortunately, the entrees did not deliver! My friend's brisket was unmemorable, and everything on my plate was some combination of too sweet, too vinegary, too greasy, bland, and dry. While it was indeed delightful to find a restaurant like Miss Delta in the PNW and I don't necessarily regret eating here, this was my least favorite meal of the entire trip. The overall service here was satisfactory.

Super delicious! The serving size for the mac and cheese was well worth the price. A cold weather note: If you go in there first thing when opening be sure to bring a jacket it was very cold.

Visited Miss Delta in Portland and had a mixed experience. The vibe is chill with outdoor seating options, which is a plus. Service was good, but my drink came in a dirty glass. I ordered the pulled pork, it had good flavor but was too watery, and serving it in a paper boat made it soggy. The highlight of the meal was definitely the mac and cheese rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious.

I was in Portland looking for a place to eat dinner. A friend of mine had told me about this place. When we entered the restaurant I was greeted by staff. The staff were friendly and polite. I ordered the 2 meat combo. My two meats were rip tips and fried chicken with Mac n cheese, greens and cornbread. The rib tips and chicken were tender and delicious. The Mac n cheese and greens lack a little flavor. The cornbread was delicious and fluffy. Customer service was up to par and the ambiance is customer friendly.

Four stars is for the food alone, it tastes great. If it was for over all experience it would be 3 stars. My change was kept rather than returned, it wasn't much but let me tip on my own, service was slow, we had to ask for the table to be whipped down it was yucky. Lastly I had hair on my lemon that was in my drink. Undecided if I'd be back but as I mentioned the food did taste good so 3 & a half stars for me but yelp doesn't have that option

We wanted to get cajun for a change and decided to give this place a shot. First of all, the kids meal was a great value. Quite a bit of food for the price. You can never go wrong with banana pudding, I wanted more. We tried a bit of everything from sausage to grits, trashy mac, catfish, burnt, end, gumbo, you name it. We were pleased with all of it. Everything was well prepared with plenty of flavor. We also wanted to try boiled peanuts. Didn't look it up so wasn't sure what to expect. Sure they're a little messy to eat, but the broth they were in was so good our 7yo niece kept dipping her tenders and fries in it. So I'd say that was a hit. Solid food.

Very good food for a reasonable price (which is not common in pdx) good vibes, nice staff who are able to act like genuine people (generally a sign of chill management). I have gone 3 times this week bc it's so damn good. HIGHLY recommend their fried okra and sweet tea. Big fan of this place

I had high expectations for this place, because its always packed. My friend ordered the sweet stack, he enjoyed it. The fried chicken was well fried. I got the fried oysters and the a la carte of brisket, burnt ends, and a side of cheese grits. The oysters were good, the breading was good! But the bbq.. the brisket was extremely dry. I took 1 bite and it was dry and bland. The burnt ends were very dry and lean. I didnt have a good experience with their bbq.

We haven't been here since before the pandemic. We used to love this place. The menu has changed a bit. We had the southern stack, each component was very salty. I ordered 4 scrambled eggs, and this is what I got. I asked the person who dropped the food if this was 4 eggs and he responded "I have no idea." I asked if he could check because it seemed pretty small. He checked and indeed the cook has misread the ticket. They brought out 2 more, which was great. Overall disappointed in our visit.

We hadn't eaten at Miss Delta's in several years so we were curious as to what we would experience. We decided to make reservations due to the small environment and limited seating. That paid off we were seated immediately at a nice four top. The gentlemen that waited on our table were very kind and gave us five star service. Now the question was, will the food match the service? My wife ordered chicken and waffles with a side of maple syrup. The waffles were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the perfect balance of sweet. The chicken was fried to perfection and had a nice season blend that coated. An awesome sweet and savory party going on. I order the two short ribs, red beans and rice and collard greens with a side of cornbread. The ribs were pull off the bone good covered in a nice sweet, slightly tangy and a hint of heat kind of sauce. The red beans and rice good ole souther good with a surprise of pulled pork over the top. The collard greens were cooked perfectly and not too salty also topped with pulled pork. We loved our meal and it most definitely stood toe to toe with the level of service we received. We'll be back.

Delicious!!! Everything was so tasty. 3 meat plate between 2 of us was so much food. The brisket was so tender and everything was flavored well. Highly recommended.

Went here for a work lunch and arrived at opening. Service was average and it wasn't long before we were asked if we were dining in or taking to go. We were given a jug of water and two glasses, so we always had water at the table. I ordered the two meat plate with greens and Mac and Cheese. The brisket was kinda tough but the burnt ends were great. The Mac and Cheese was good, and the greens were good but would have been better if they had meat. We requested meat but they were all out of the pulled pork they use for the greens. The ambiance was fine. Low lighting and clean. Would go back again to try other items.

    Shrimp and grits

This is my ideal bbq joint - dank, dingy and delicious. Counter service, nothin fancy about the place, reminds me of a pizza joint with the booths. Been a couple times, tried the Shrimp n Grits and a hot chicken po boy, overall really enjoyed both. I've had some juicier sandwiches than The Hot Chicken Po Boy but it was seasoned very well and I like the texture of the breading a lot, and it was a pretty thick slice of chicken. The bread was also good and held together well. You can also pay extra to upgrade to a better side. This was my first time trying shrimp n grits so can't compare it but I liked it, it was deeply savory, cheesy and peppery. My only complaint would be since it's such a hearty portion, the last 1/3 of it (which I had to take home) got a bit too salty and peppery towards the end so I think it is a dish best shared. But still 5 stars.

I liked it a lot, although I generally appreciate a bit more lemon taste in hollandaise sauce, but this hollandaise was so creamy, smooth and flavorful, I'm not mad. The breakfast potatoes served with this are very tasty - delightfully seasoned and perfectly cooked - crispy outside and fluffy inside. The coffee was very good. Our server, Jared B., was great; just enough interaction to be sure we had what we needed at all times, and as personable as he was efficient. Beautiful location that was spotless and comfortable.

We got here at 10am on a Monday, and every table was filled. It looked like they had numerous staff, but I would guess that the traffic level must be hard to manage. Perhaps because of this, my order of Sawmill breakfast was very poorly prepared. The gravy was luke warm at best. The eggs had the texture of frozen powdered egg that was just thawed. The biscuit was like a brick and hard to eat. I also saw numerous other patrons who were leaving their scrambled eggs untouched. The chicken tenders were warm and delicious, and the quiche was decent. Salad was probably the highlight. Besides that, I think the vibes inside the restaurant were very beautiful and memorable. Just unfortunate that the food was very sub par. I probably wouldn't recommend if you were trying to impress someone important.

I'm definitely neither a vegetarian nor someone who appreciates vegetarian/vegan places that rely only on firm plain tofu or some other reformed soy products carby patty things as their protein source. So when I go to a vegetarian or vegan restaurant, I tend to order dishes where I can still see and recognize the actual ingredients. I was very happy with my calamari (oyster mushroom rings). The crust was crunchy and savory, it almost felt like eating flavored chips or other crunchy snacks like the Korean brand onion ring snacks. Inside the mushrooms were well cooked, they were hot and juicy. As a lover of savory crunchy snacks and mushrooms, this dish had me at the first bite, and I didn't even need the dipping sauce (but the sauce was good though). I finished the whole plate! My partner is a vegetarian, and he loved his bowl. I had one bite of it. The chicken popcorn looked quite real, but I still prefer real chicken popcorn. The gravy potato was a bit plain and light for my liking, but then again, I'm not someone who seasons food with only salt and pepper and put mayo and ketchup on everything, so you can be your own judge there. The ginger lime soda was super refreshing, zesty and icy, and it was perfectly sweetened to my taste. Staff were friendly and nice, indoor was warm and bright. Definitely a place worth to come back for the mushrooms and drink!
