The collard greens were some of the best I've had - perfectly seasoned, greens perfectly cut well and full of flavor. The fried oysters were massive, crispy and delicious. Don't skip on the banana pudding here! We also stopped in during Taco Week and their taco special was a 10/10. The restaurant itself is casual, quick service, with both indoor and outdoor seating. This was a treasure to find. We found this when we had attempted to go to Gravy's for brunch but don't want to wait. We walked in to Miss Delta and were seated right away. The entire menu looked delicious so we had a hard time choosing what to try. Just means we have to go back. I really appreciated we were told what they had run out of as we were given the menus. We tried the Shrimp and Grits and Country Fried Steak. The seasoning on everything was spot on. Service was quick and friendly. Let me start by saying I'm a Mississippi native with a weakness for hush puppies and Southern-inspired cocktails made with bourbon, whiskey, lemonade, iced tea, and watermelon & peach purée. That was the hook that brought me and a friend to Miss Delta during our trip to Portland. We started our meal on a high note with cocktails and an order of hush puppies as an appetizer. The hush puppies were absolutely phenomenal, so we had high expectations for our entrees. My friend ordered brisket and a wedge salad for his meal, and I ordered a plate of sides with andouille sausage and two fried oysters. Unfortunately, the entrees did not deliver! My friend's brisket was unmemorable, and everything on my plate was some combination of too sweet, too vinegary, too greasy, bland, and dry. While it was indeed delightful to find a restaurant like Miss Delta in the PNW and I don't necessarily regret eating here, this was my least favorite meal of the entire trip. My cousin and I saw the post via IG and we decided to go ahead there to get our lunch. We ate too fast and couldn't finish our lunch lol. Shrimp and Grits: 10/10 -- it's perfect for two people to share, highly recommended because I was not able to finish it. Hushpuppies: 9/10 -- it would be nice if they're nicely fried, it's perfect for two people to split 6 into 3. Fried Pickles: 10/10 -- These were perfectly crispy but definitely for sharing. I was in Portland looking for a place to eat dinner. A friend of mine had told me about this place. When we entered the restaurant I was greeted by staff. The staff were friendly and polite. I ordered the 2 meat combo. My two meats were rip tips and fried chicken with Mac n cheese, greens and cornbread. The rib tips and chicken were tender and delicious. Miss Delta is the perfect spot for a hearty, soul-satisfying meal! We stopped in on a Sunday morning and found seating immediately. My partner is a diehard fan of fried okra, so we started the meal with a basket. Perfectly fried and generously portioned (a common refrain with all items we ordered). The gravy on the country fried chicken is probably some of the best gravy we've ever tasted, and the burnt ends on the smokestack reminded us we need to eat real BBQ more often. We wanted to get cajun for a change and decided to give this place a shot. First of all, the kids meal was a great value. Quite a bit of food for the price. You can never go wrong with banana pudding, I wanted more. We tried a bit of everything from sausage to grits, trashy mac, catfish, burnt, end, gumbo, you name it. We were pleased with all of it. Everything was well prepared with plenty of flavor. We also wanted to try boiled peanuts. Didn't look it up so wasn't sure what to expect. New city, new hole in the wall. This week it's Miss Delta. So I'm not sure how to go about this review, but I will do my best. To look over the establishment, it looks a little rundown. I feel this is a very old building and they probably been there for a while. When we first got there, they were out of a lot of their staple items, ribs, okra, and a few other things. Also, their cash register, and credit card reader were being affected by the AWS system glitch from earlier this morning so it was partially down as well. As for this restaurant, It was a mediocre place, attempting to do soul food. I got the catfish dinner with red beans and rice and collard greens. I will start off with the rice and beans. They lacked seasoning, and the rice was not cooked all the way. I kept getting hard rice bits every time I've been into the food. The beans did not seem like real red beans, but more like pinto beans that had dye in them. The collard greens were good, and had good flavor. It also came with a cornbread muffin that really lacked some flavor as well. The catfish I asked to be cooked extra crispy. What I didn't realize is that it would make it super tough and hard to chew. The most decent thing about the restaurant where the cooks and the host. They all seemed very nice, but a little overworked. With two people in the kitchen and one person running orders, taking orders, bussing tables and trying to do customer service just seemed like a bit much. as I stated before the places mediocre, and probably wouldn't recommend on a regular basis. read more

We hadn't eaten at Miss Delta's in several years so we were curious as to what we would experience. We decided to make reservations due to the small environment and limited seating. That paid off we were seated immediately at a nice four top. The gentlemen that waited on our table were very kind and gave us five star service. Now the question was, will the food match the service? My wife ordered chicken and waffles with a side of maple syrup. The waffles were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the perfect balance of sweet. The chicken was fried to perfection and had a nice season blend that coated. An awesome sweet and savory party going on. I order the two short ribs, red beans and rice and collard greens with a side of cornbread. The ribs were pull off the bone good covered in a nice sweet, slightly tangy and a hint of heat kind of sauce. The red beans and rice good ole souther good with a surprise of pulled pork over the top. The collard greens were cooked perfectly and not too salty also topped with pulled pork. Went here for a work lunch and arrived at opening. Service was average and it wasn't long before we were asked if we were dining in or taking to go. We were given a jug of water and two glasses, so we always had water at the table. I ordered the two meat plate with greens and Mac and Cheese. The brisket was kinda tough but the burnt ends were great. The Mac and Cheese was good, and the greens were good but would have been better if they had meat. We haven't been here since before the pandemic. We used to love this place. The menu has changed a bit. We had the southern stack, each component was very salty. I ordered 4 scrambled eggs, and this is what I got. I asked the person who dropped the food if this was 4 eggs and he responded "I have no idea." This is my ideal bbq joint - dank, dingy and delicious. Counter service, nothin fancy about the place, reminds me of a pizza joint with the booths. Been a couple times, tried the Shrimp n Grits and a hot chicken po boy, overall really enjoyed both. I've had some juicier sandwiches than The Hot Chicken Po Boy but it was seasoned very well and I like the texture of the breading a lot, and it was a pretty thick slice of chicken. The bread was also good and held together well. You can also pay extra to upgrade to a better side. This was my first time trying shrimp n grits so can't compare it but I liked it, it was deeply savory, cheesy and peppery. My only complaint would be since it's such a hearty portion, the last 1/3 of it (which I had to take home) got a bit too salty and peppery towards the end so I think it is a dish best shared. This place is not the place for anyone who appreciates southern bar b q . It was bland . Nothing taste good it was not worth the money at all . They use liquid smoke and that's about it . The red beans and rice was not cooked thoroughly. The Mac and cheese was served with shredded cheese on top that was not melted . The ribs were baked in an oven at most . Pretty much all fat . The brisket was dry and wasn't smoked . The only was the thing that was good was the sausage . The only thing they gave us in abundance was coleslaw. And who wants that ? Food: overall 9/10! 1. Griddle cakes-9/10 the flavor was fantastic and the cakes were light and fluffy, the hint of nutmeg in the cakes make it that much better. 2. Chicken and waffles-9/10 the portion size of the chicken was HUGE! Came out pipping and fresh. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection, not too much breading, not too greasy and a good amount of flavor. The waffle was also pretty good but the chicken was the real star. The service was also great, shortly after being seated someone took our drink order then someone came back about 5 mins after that to take our food order. Food and service were just okay. Sides were all "meh" and brisket was fatty and a little chewy. Food came out cold and nothing was spectacular EXCEPT the fried chicken and gravy. Service was slow and we had to flag down our server a few times because we were missing things. The price for the amount of food we got was decent, definitely had leftovers. Shrimp and grits are my favorite cold weather comfort food y'all. I was so énamoured with my visit to PoBoyz yesterday and saw it on their menu I was totally craving it, pandemic diet be damned. PoBoyz is closed on Sunday. I brought up the Grubhub app and did a general search for grits and up comes Miss Delta. I've heard many good things about this place for a long time now but with Covid and having a lazy boyfriend (now happily ex-boyfriend), we never went anywhere in the past 4 years. Plus I was just too lazy to think about ordering for myself either. PoBoyz inspired me. My order came very quickly. The grits container was still hot to the touch and the slice of cornbread was nice and warm too. I decided to try that first since bread always cools off so quickly. It's nice that the butter they included was soft and easy to spread. The cornbread was delicious, slightly sweet and with butter, just perfect. The grits were swimming in a blackened shrimp and andouille sauce that was just the right balance between sauce, shrimp and andouille bits. It was $18.00 so not super cheap so it's a good thing that there was plenty of it. I've got enough left over for a hearty lunch tomorrow. Across the street at our normal brunch spot, noticed Miss Delta for the first time. It was a little hit and a little more miss. Tried the spicy stack and the biscuits and gravy. While it was decent, there were some big chunks of sausage - normally great but the meat was bright pink on the inside. Told our server about this and he just looked at it and said "okay." Though that was an odd response. Expected a "sorry about that," or something to that effect. Subbed that out for the biscuits and mushroom gravy. It was lacking in flavor and body. When I paid the check and mentioned this, the server seemed surprised. Enjoyed the spicy stack and the coffee. Cute spot. So you are looking at Shrimp Po Boy that I had this past weekend from. I read a few good reviews before settling on it. When I got to the restaurant, the very nice staff person told me it was going to be so good and that he has it twice per week. My mouth was watering and I was ready to taste it. To my disappointment and surprise, this sandwich came with 4 shrimp...4!!! I asked for the sandwich to be cut in half, which evened out the shrimp at 2 per side. Unacceptable at $15.60 per sandwich. This sandwich was compromised of mostly bread and toppings with very little meat. It tasted okay, but not worth the price point given the lack of meat. I have been eating at Miss Delta since whatever year she was open for the first time. I am not a Regular. I am more of an Occaisioner .. Today I noticed a couple of changes that I think are unnecessary. Number 1. Way too much salt added to recipes. That is what the shaker is for. Number 2. Whatever the coating on Okra is, it is not the same-reductivley so. If the coating on the Okra has not changed...... then the fry oil is not fresh enough. I realize that I identified myself as an occasional Miss Delta patron. But that has been because I do not want to become accustomed to the Southern food MD serves. I don't want it to become ordinary or just customary for me to patronize MD. I want my food to be talk-worthy. Change the Okra batter or oil. I need to prepare a collard pot to absorb the extreme salt present in the to-go order I received. I don't believe in waste. read more

Got to try some of their dishes through catering and I quite enjoyed them! We got a bunch of pulled stuffs: pork, chicken, and jackfruit. I thought all of them were tasty and flavorful. The meats weren't dry at all. Plus, extra flavor when you droused them with their original BBQ sauce that was the right balance of sweet and spicy. I also liked their black beans and rice and cornbread that were great pairings for the meats. I really love the food here and love the location. However, throughout the pandemic the customer service has been some of the worst and rude that I have experienced, even while "trying" to support them through these hard times. From calling regarding seating, to stopping by randomly, to simply trying to gain clarity on how to gain seating or what is available, they have been extremely rude and difficult. I understand the stress put on some of our favorite spots, but trying to rationalize spending my money with businesses that seem to not appreciate the patronage is hard to stomach. From my wife calling and getting the worst attitude while simply asking about indoor or patio seating, to stopping by randomly today alone and seeing seating available, while asking the host are seats available, and them conveying the only way to dine inside is by reservation. I check reservation system which is Resy, and the next available reservation at 1:30pm happens to be 2:00pm. I make the reservation all while seeing there are tables available and ask the host "if my reservation is at 2pm and you have seats available, will I need to wait til 2pm?". His answer with no hesitation is "yes, your reservation is at 2pm". I don't mind waiting, but the overall rudeness, lack of attention to the customer, and the fact that seats were available and they wouldn't even consider seating me early. What's also bothers me, is that my wife and I have chosen to support certain spots that we love that we see are dramatically impacted by Covid and dining restrictions. However, this same attitude isn't reciprocated by the restaurant of being appreciative of that loyalty and dedication. Typically I would simply be patient and understanding, and even tolerant of the rudeness, but today I chose to not give one of my favorite Portland restaurants my money, as I watched them also treat the DoorDash pickup guy with the same rudeness and terrible customer service. I love the food, ambiance, location, beverages, and more, but I want to feel welcomed and appreciated. I even tried to address the bad service and make the server aware that I've been a long time customer during Covid, and my family Has attempted to support Miss Delta through these trying times. The waiter allowed me to keep the fish and gave me the brisket as well. Everything I had lacked flavor and seasoning. The brisket tasted like smoke and that was it. I have ordered edge salad from many restaurants and and never received such a nasty salad. Smothered in bacon and croutons (which I don't eat) so much so that I couldn't even redeem the lettuce.
