We have been looking forward to eating Podnah's BBQ, most of my foodie friends love this place. As you walk up they have a very large outdoor seating area for at least 80 people, the main entrance has Podnah's name posted within a rustic building. The building is a very casual place, as you walk in the friendly staff greet you and ask you to take a seat wherever you like. We decided to sit in the backside of the building it is a very peaceful section by the kitchen, you can smell the amazing smokey scent of the bbq from there. The walls are covered black and white cowboy pictures. As someone mention in their review, parking is a little challenging but we found parking in the neighborhood within 5 min. The Menu is simple and to the point, one page is drinks the other page is the BBQ, We shared the Pit Boss Platter, you will find that it feeds 2-3, you get a 1/4 pound of brisket and pulled pork, 2 pork ribs, 1 link (very good size) cornbread and your choice of 2 sides, we choose the collard greens and the the green chile mac and cheese. Everything was amazing. It was plenty for the two of us that shared it, we actually took some of it home, I also tied in the pickles, the are served with pickled onions and jalapeños (yummy). The BBQ flavor was amazing, nice and smoky , great smoke rings, they table drop in three different sauces, a vinegar oil, a surprisingly tasty mustard sauce and their house bbq sauce, they are all great tasting. My son ordered the 2 meat plate, he loved the Brisket and Ribs, he also tried the Pinto beans with Brisket, they were very tasty. Overall Podnah's lived up to the hype. So the food is good, but the main issue we all took an issue with is the automatic tip. We ordered carryout, and it's a mandatory large percentage, regardless. We ended up cutting things out of our order to compensate for that. Honestly, I'm totally fine with restaurants making the food pricier to make up for costs, but adding a huge mandatory tip is a iffy. There are plenty of really good bbq places in the area that will give you comparable food without that. I love BBQ and ribs in particular. I came to Podnah's hungry for lunch and got their double rib plate with beans and collards. There are three BBQ sauces at the table - original, vinegar, and mustard. All were very tasty. I left so full that I did not eat dinner. Gave it another go and wasn't a great experience. Service was ok but food not so much. Ordered 2 meat combo and choose Brisket and sausage of the day when plate arrived had 2 smaller pieces of Brisket (little on the drier side then I'm accustomed to) needed sauce as not alot of flavor, sausage was good though good size and juicy. 2 Sides that came with it (Greens & slaw) were decent except sides are on the smaller side. Wife had chopped Brisket sandwich she said it was OK but a little dry. The biggest disappointment is the AUTOMATIC gratuity they put on your bill even though it still shows a gratuity area and and if server didn't mention it we would have put more, never seen a table of 2 get an auto gratuity. I've been in Oregon for 5 years and have been searching for my favorites. I've tried BBQ spots that were highly recommended in the social media world, and didn't find myself to be fully satisfied. Now I come across Podnah's and tried various bbq options. By far my favorite so far. The ribs remind me of the ribs back home in Oakland, specifically, it reminds me of a spot called Flints. The meat here is cooked to perfection. Flavor, tenderness, all really good. I did find my brisket a bit on the salty side, but hoping I just got one that was given a little more salt love than the usual. I'll be going back to try more for sure. read more

I placed an order for delivery via Uber Eats. I ordered the two meat plate with brisket, a sausage link, potato salad, and green chili Mac and cheese. I also ordered a cup of Texas Red Chili and it came with cornbread. Podnah's did not send my complete order; the green chili Mac, my favorite, was missing. Order accuracy is important and Uber did nothing to rectify the situation. I guess I'll have to stop ordering from here. The chili was meaty but not flavorful at all. I tasted hot and that's it. Everything was amazing. The brisket was perfect. The pulled pork was great. Sadly they were out if fries, but that was understandable due to supply chain issues. The Frito pie was given rave reviews. I'm really hoping the night we visited was just an off night ? But wow--this was incredibly disappointing. We came for my birthday dinner, and not only were our plates served extremely cold, but I also found a long hair in my salad, which had to be taken back. Nothing was seasoned. The ribs were tough and far from "falling-off-the-bone," the brisket was just okay, and the coleslaw tasted soggy, like it had been sitting for a week. Others in our party ordered the fried chicken and the fish plate but unfortunately, those dishes didn't stand out either. Our server only checked in on us once the entire night, though I understand it was busy. For our main, we opted to split The Pitboss, a BBQ plate with a little bit of everything--brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, sausage, and cornbread. It comes with two sides, so we got green chile mac and cheese and coleslaw. The pulled pork and sausage were probably my favorite, but the ribs and brisket weren't too bad either. There's a selection of a few house made sauces you can use with your meal as well. I prefer sweet cornbread with my BBQ, but this one was on the savory side and was a bit dry, a lowlight for me. (From August 2024) Solid solid solid SOLID barbeque in the Portland neck of the woods. My sister and her husband always come here for BBQ claiming it's just like how Texas does it. After living in HOU for several years, while nothing replicate TX BBQ outside of TX, this place comes quite close. All your typical TX bbq meats (pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken, pork ribs, sausage link) are available here. Beef ribs are also available Fri-Sun after 5PM. Since we came here for lunch, we missed out on those. Nevertheless, we had plenty of eats as we ordered the Pitboss which is practically the entire menu of all the meats (minus the smoked chicken), cornbread, and a pair of sides (collard greens & potato salad). We also added a jalapeno mac and cheese side cause you have to get mac and cheese everytime you walk into a BBQ spot. The best meats were the brisket, pulled pork, and sausage; brisket was pretty tender and moist. Pulled pork is marinated in this carolina vinegar with a touch of spicy which I loved. Sausage had that snap to it and was plenty juicy. The ribs were alright, very good color although didn't jump out like the other meats. The collard greens and mac and cheese are both dope, probably their best sides. Potato salad has good mustardy flavor but we couldn't stop raving about the collards and M&C. Also the cornbread was delicious too, squeeze a bit of honey on that and it melts in your mouth! I'm surprised that it was nearly empty when we arrived around 1ish but I suppose people were running errands or something. Our server mentioned that dinner time is usually the busiest; probably due to the beef ribs. I hope to try that next time. They also have dinner specials Thurs-Fri and the menu includes tacos, sandwiches, appetizers such as their frito pie, and texas chili (no beans!). We shared a Pit Boss: brisket was perfectly juicy and well seasoned, pulled pork was delicious, ribs were falling off the bone, mac and cheese and beans were both fantastic. Cornbread wasn't our style; we prefer sweet cornbread, this was definitely a savory cornbread without a ton of extra flavor. Banana pudding was amazing! The service left a LOT to be desired. We were there in the late afternoon lull and felt abandoned at several points throughout the meal. We only got water, which seemed to annoy our waitress from the get-go (I get it, a smaller tab = a smaller tip, but really?) Our water pitcher ran out halfway through our meal and we were never offered refills...nor did our waitress appear so we could ask for more. After sitting for quite a while, a different waitress came by and asked if we needed anything else, so we ordered our dessert. It was brought in to-go containers without any discussion (it's clear from other reviews that it's usually served "for here.") Once we were ready to go, we sat with our dishes stacked, waiting on our checks for probably 20 minutes before the second waitress reappeared to ask if we needed anything. We asked for our checks, and she left in the middle of the conversation to take care of something else. She finally came back to finalize our transaction, and Podnah's standard automatic 18% gratuity was tacked on to our checks. I know that's their policy, and I don't love it, but it especially stung after receiving such poor service. I only took off one star for service because the food was so phenomenal. The location is a nice looking dine-in spot, with a rustic interior and homey vibe. However, a majority of the food we had was simply okay in my opinion. I'm not the biggest fan of vinegar heavy foods and unfortunately there was a tad bit too much throughout the dishes in my opinion. We ordered a regular spare rib plate with jalapeno mac & cheese, fries and cornbread. As well as a side of their beans, potato salad and pulled pork sandwich. I'm used to a sweeter BBQ and found this one to lean more vinegary. But the meat was tender and cooked perfectly. Fries were good and mac & cheese was okay for me. When you walk in and put your name on the list, they have a sign letting you know there is an automatic 18% gratuity for all parties up to a certain size (6 I think?). The service certainly reflects the fact that they really don't have to work for their tip. I have tried to eat here twice but have not had any luck. I'm driving in from Beaverton. The first time was avoidable- I didn't check their web site, which did have the notice that they were closed for a trip to Texas. But, I tried again this Saturday. Their web site says that they open at 9:00. I get there about twenty minutes early and the sign on the door says they open at 9:00. I see two people inside and another person arrived and went inside. I waited a few minutes after 9:00 and the Closed sign wasn't flipped. So I go up to the door and see a man sitting at a table with an open laptop. He doesn't acknowledge me. I step back and call the restaurant- no one answers. I went bask to my car and wait another 10 minutes. I called again and still no answer. Best BBQ I've Had--And I'm From Tennessee! As someone born and raised in Tennessee, I've eaten more than my fair share of barbecue across the country--from Memphis to Texas to the Carolinas. Let me tell you, Podnah's BBQ in Portland blew me away. This is hands down the best BBQ I've ever had--no exaggeration. The meat is smoked to perfection with that deep, rich flavor only true pitmasters can achieve. The sauces are absolutely incredible--balanced, bold, and full of character without overpowering the meat. Every bite was just spot-on. But what really shocked me were the side dishes. So often, sides are an afterthought at BBQ joints, but not here. From the beans to the slaw to the mac & cheese, every side was made with care and bursting with flavor. And don't even get me started on the cornbread--moist, just the right amount of sweetness, and truly unforgettable. If you're a BBQ lover, this place is a must. Podnah's has set a new standard for me. I'd go out of my way to eat here again--and I probably will. At $42 for the PitBoss you get it all, and what a great price point for what you get. Wow wow wow! I live quite a long haul to the Killingsworth location. I've been here three times. Service is great even when they are packed. Food is 5 stars. I've been to the best in Dallas & Houston, Podnah's is better. Make sure you order the sampler ( when you have a guest with you ) .... It's so terrific there's not much more to say. If they opened on the west side of town it would be terrific.... But I'll drive to NE to get my fix. read more

After placing our order, we waited just a few minutes got our food to arrive. Large portions impeccably presented to us on white ceramic plates. Taste was clean, fresh and finger-licking good. This little spot is right off Killingsworth in Northeast Portland a couple of blocks down from 15th St. Has a nice open floor plan. The place has a café vibe and the air is filled with a smoky barbecue smell. The menu is interesting because it's a combination of like tacos and barbecue. We ordered the 2 pound pork ribs, quart of greens and a quart of mac & cheese with cornbread on the side. The ribs were pretty delicious. They had a heavy smoke on them and if you're not used to smoked meat, it does appear a little on the red side. They offered a side of barbecue sauce which was pretty delicious. The mac & cheese was different not what I'm used to, but it was OK probably wouldn't order it again. And the greens were not bad that's about all I could say. read more
