This place is very good. Their mac & cheese is perfect in every way and they're baked beans are one of the best I've ever had. I think their meat could use a little bit more smoke but that's a personal preference and I know not everyone feels the same. They have six different and unique styles of BBQ sauce on the table which represent different regions around the country where barbecue is done. The brisket is hands down my fave & I am still scratching my head, wondering. Why they have that useless sausage still on the menu, it just doesn't fit. I love bbq sausage, but this sausage need new life! Staff is always very friendly & interior is always clean. I like that you have a variety of sauses to choose from. Depending on the day I might want a bold hot sauce or a tamer sweeter sauce. This visit our brisket was spot on, with a perfect ring, moist & tender. The pork ribs were disappointing, with very little meat & a bit dry. The green beans had soggy bacon, that had not rendered down & was not going to eat a dish with raw pork. Baked beans were good, but not superior, needed some love. The cornbread was respectable & nice & moist. The best side was the Apple cobbler, great taste & served warm with just the right spices. This visit was a conundrum, with a mixed assortment of high pros & low cons, perhaps an off day. What's a girl to do? After 3 trips to Mission BBQ, I feel prepared to write a review. The short of it is: if you want BBQ and are close by, it's worth a visit...but I love barbecue enough where I'd probably drive out of my way for something a little better. It just wouldn't be my first choice (no pun intended, I promise) for grabbing some Que in the Tampa Bay area. For starters, Mission should advertise that they have burnt ends! Yes, we are okay with waiting a few extra minutes...but burnt ends are delicious, be proud of them. Each time I've ordered the standard brisket, it's been a little dry for my taste. The sides are all just "okay" and they could probably stand to add one or two more as well. In terms of price, I think it's a little more expensive than their competition in the area. All things considered, and Mission gets the "okay" of 3 stars for me. I will say the staff is very friendly and a particular female manager there goes beyond her way to make sure your dine-in experience is okay. Tip: they do have white barbecue sauce, which is foreign to my South Carolina- grown taste buds...but it's great! read more

Incredible spot. Absolutely awesome. Went here with a buddy and we got as much as we thought we could handle. Pulled pork, pulled chicken, turkey and baby back ribs. For our sides, chili, cheesy potatoes, green beans and bacon (not green beans cooked in some bacon, but an inch of bacon cooked with my green beans!!) and blueberry cobbler, OH MY BLUEBERRY COBBLER!!! Everyone on he staff saw really friendly giving us their name in case we needed anything. The food was spectacular and honestly, it's right up there with my favs of all time now. They change the cobbler around every 5 weeks or so, so the blueberry cobbler may be gone when you get there but it was absolutely incredible. Nitpicking here but only 1 dessert option is kinda lame and until you figure what BBQ sauce you like the most there is an incredible amount of options on the table (6) not to mention the ones on top of the "tool chest" filled with things like straws, wetnaps, sugar packets etc. Do yourself a favor and eat here!!! read more

My new favorite BBQ in Tampa/Brandon. The brisket was tender, moist and tasty. Sandwiches are served on a soft bun. I had two of their signature sauces. The baja is their hot sauce and is tempered with strong heat but not overpowering. I also enjoyed the Georgia Yellow which is mustard based. Also very well balanced and flavorful. I sampled the baby back ribs: the meatiest little rib nugget I have ever had. It's a dry rub, which I prefer, so it's not all tacky and sticky. Lastly, I ordered the green beans as my side items. We took a group of 6 to this location on March 27. Everything was delicious but unfortunately, I was up all night with what I suspect was a case of food poisoning. I had the Firehouse Chili. The brisket that came to us was not fatty - very lean, very dry, and crumbled upon picking it up with a fork. It was barely tolerable. Went there the first time. It was awesome. We got the three meat sampler. Pulled pork, pulled chicken, and pulled beef brisket. You can buy ribs by the bone so I bought 2 . Came with cornbread with real corn in it. The sides we got were Mac and cheese, and barbecue beans. They sold out of chili and I got the N'awlins corn so very delicious and spicy. We were not disappointed. I went back to where you order and was going for get coconut cream pie. I went to pay for it she said " I got it"! It was complimentary so very delicious! Not only was the food delicious, but the word "Mission" has added meaning as there are many opportunities for our veterans to participate in the business. Good food but fries were cold. I didn't like the fact they let dogs into the restaurant. There was a little white Chiwawa (and no I can't spell. ) the guy walked in and sat in a booth and the dog was loose all over that booth. Very nice interior although it was so cold my wife and I opted to sit on their deck, which, be the way, is pet friendly. Unfortunately their deck overlooks Hwy 60. We had the meat sampler with fresh cut fries. The hand cut fries were super tasty, but my favorite was the sliced turkey. I've never had such moist turkey! The brisket too was very moist in fact, it would fall apart as it reached my mouth. The smoked jalapeño sausage did justice to its name. The baby back ribs, which you can buy by the bone, were full of meat. They were smoked without BBQ sauce so we could choice our own from a variety of 10. For me, the pros are that they have great sauces and the pulled pork is consistent. The cons are that the green beans either have TONS of onions mixed in or barely any. Also, I'm American but I find it weird that a restaurant plays the national anthem every day at noon and requires ALL employees(and basically all customers) to stop what they're doing for the time that it plays. We were treated extremely well. Upon entering, with a party of 8, we needed to find a table area that could fit us all. Steve was really great about reserving us a booth + 2-person table add on while we ordered. Then he came by to let us know one of our orders was going to be longer than the rest, and offered us [me really] a dish to make up for it. The Brandon area is becoming oversaturated with BBQ and most of it is ok at best, so we were not expecting much but I have to say we are pleasantly surprised. The brisket is good, nice oak flavor. Jalapeno and cheese sausage is flavored well with a good snap. For me the sides are the stars. Macaroni and cheese along with the green beans are a must try. Absolutely delicious! This was the first time my husband and I had ever eaten here and we will be back again and again. The portions are great for him (6'3" man) and they have great low carb delicious options for me. My toddler would even enjoy it. This time I had their salmon and he had the brisket. It was the most tender salmon I ever had! Great size piece too! Enough for two meals for me. I asked about their greens and the friendly staff gave me a sample cup (I totally wasn't expecting that). Someone also came over to our table to ask if I needed a to go box (also something I wasn't expecting since it's diner/cafeteria style ordering and seating). Love this place!
