I've been a patient since 2017 or 2018. It started out great! I had a wonderful experience for years. No issues. Then within the last 2-3 visits, it's gone down hill. Billing is sketchy to say the least. They tell you things are covered and they're not. Most recently I scheduled a periodontal maintenance cleaning. I've gone for years without issues. The hygienist had to be a recent graduate and with very poor bed side manner. The hygienist basically told me I'm lying. Then it really went down hill. The cleaning instrument fell apart in my mouth and water sprayed all over my face and shirt. I thought it best to reschedule. I've never walked out of an appointment before that one. Unbelievable. The other major concern is with the front staff. I had a referral for an endodontist. Upon reviewing the paper work with the staff, the wrong tooth was circled. I mentioned it twice and it was finally corrected. If I hadn't been an educated patient, I would've had the wrong tooth treated. I'm sad to say I'm finding a new dentist. Buyer beware. UPDATE: further proof to stay away. The zirconia based crown on my molar failed at less than 2.5 years. In short the practice does shoddy work. I've been going to this dentist for about a year. All good until today. I was told my procedures would be zero, all paid by my insurance. After I was finished, I went to check out and dealt with the "manager" (Alicia) with blonde hair who informed me the total due would be $200. I informed her I was told by the other associate my co-pay would be zero (I signed documents stating zero before appointment) and my insurance documents say my co-pay would be zero. She was not a friendly person, I seen her have another "run in" with another person before I went back for my appointment. She was very rude to him also. She told me she would do me a favor and "wave the fees". I called my insurance company after my appointment, to double check that my co-pays were zero and they said yes. I called recently with what I thought was a simple request -- to go over my husband's bill with who i think she said was Alysia. I completely understand being an RN myself, that due to HIPAA, she couldn't release more details directly to me - but then my husband - THE PATIENT - spoke up and said "I'm here" on the phone - and she STILL wouldn't go over once he got on the phone" (?!?) so as the patient you're not going to Go Over the bill ?? That makes a lot Of sense. She raced off the call and couldn't be bothered. Clearly. The way she handled the call was such a turn off and totally left a bad taste in both our mouths. She sounded annoyed, dismissive, sighing, and gave off the impression we were the biggest annoyance in her day so far Healthcare and bills are stressful enough without being made to feel like a nuisance when you're simply trying to understand a bill. Professionalism and kindness go a long way, and this phone call showed neither. My husband then said he didn't like his experience there anyways, and after we got off the phone we both cancelled our future appts and will not be returning. Very disappointing! This is the first time I've ever written a review for a dental office, and unfortunately, it's not a positive one. I regret coming here today and wasting my time. Even if it was a $59 special, it was not worth it. I came in specifically for a cleaning, which I get every 3-4 months. Instead, much of the appointment was spent reviewing an itemized estimate of $4,000 worth of future procedures. While I understand that dentistry is a business, I would have preferred more focus on the service I was scheduled for rather than an emphasis on upselling additional treatments. When the cleaning began with Dr. Mai, it was very brief--about 8 or 9 minutes total. I even asked if that was all, because in my experience, cleanings typically take 30-40 minutes and leave me with a thorough, fresh feeling. This one felt rushed, and unfortunately, I left without the sense that my teeth had truly been cleaned. Dr. Mai did not come across as particularly caring or reassuring during the process, which added to my disappointment. I've lived in several states and countries, and I've generally had positive experiences with dental care. This visit, however, left me feeling more like a customer being sold to than a patient being cared for. I believe patients should feel comfortable, listened to, and confident in the quality of their treatment, and that was not my experience here. I purposely obtained new dental insurance since the coverage is better than the dental insurance that is part of my Medicare Advantage plan. I made an appointment to have work done that I waited to do until my new coverage became available. To my surprise I was told that they cannot use my new coverage since I still have dental coverage through my medical plan. The coverage through that plan though is minimal and requires 50% co pay for a filling. My new coverage has a 0 co pay. As a result I will be changing dentists. tl;dr - *Highly unethical/fraudulent business and billing practices - AVOID* I recently visited Dr. Yasaman Sardari (NPI 1851975734) at Mission Valley Dentists at 5638 Mission Center Rd #107, San Diego, CA 92108, for standard prophylaxis. During my visit, Dr. Sardari completed routine gum pocket measurements and noted that I had severe periodontal disease and required immediate treatment to stop the spread of the infection. I hesitated to proceed as I am very compliant in my health maintenance (i.e., routine flossing and brushing more than twice daily and biweekly washes with chlorhexidine). After Dr. Sardari stepped away, the office assistant and Dr. Sardari returned and explained that treatment for tooth scaling, root planning, and laser treatment would cost over $1,300. I politely stated that I would have to think about it, to which they both escorted me to the front. Upon reaching the front, I was asked, "When would you like to schedule?". I had mentioned that the usual 3 to 6th-month follow-up would be perfect. I received the following reply, "We aren't going to schedule you for a routine follow-up as it would be clinically negligent on our part not to schedule the deep cleaning." I verbally confirmed again that they refused to provide preventive services with a routine follow-up and politely walked out of the office. **Two days later, I had a second opinion with a different dentist who found no evidence of periodontal disease**. The unethical treatment and fraudulent billing practices of Dr. Yasaman Sardari at Mission Valley Dentists are highly immoral. While I do not normally submit letters of complaint, the type of practices at Missions Valley Dentists is likely contributing to unnecessary emotional and financial hardship for countless San Diego Metropolitan Area patients. I have been with this dentist office for 4 years and even though there are a lot of reviews of upselling and people getting unnecessary things done here, I have a good experience most of the time. Without seeing the dentist in over a year, I come in for a maintenance cleaning for free and once I sit down in the chair, the hygienist (without even looking at my mouth, or the doctor looking) says okay let's start our deep cleaning on the right hand side of your mouth!???! I had no idea what was going on. How could someone be upselling me a deep cleaning with lasers and etc without anyone looking at my mouth for over a year? I was very confused and they let me know that they can't do a regular teeth cleaning until the week after I get my deep cleaning done because that's what they recommend. So basically if you schedule an appointment for a teeth cleaning or another service, BE AWARE THAT IF YOU TAKE TIME OFF WORK TO SEE THE DENTIST THEY WONT HELP YOU DO THE PROCEDURE THEY SCHEDULED YOU FOR BUTTTTT THEY WILL UPSELL YOU THINGS and even though those things are not what your scheduled appointment is for, they will have time to sell them to you. I recently had to switch my dental insurance and I was not excited to look for a new spot. I was a little unsure because of the reviews, but I am so glad I gave them a try. This dental practice is very accommodating and caring. Making an appointment was very easy, you get sent an email to pre register prior to your appointment which is so much better than filling out all the paperwork. As of now they are open on Saturdays, but I believe the schedule keeps switching around because of COVID. The receptionist, dental assistant, hygienist, and Dr. Kamil are all very professional and will make sure to meet all your needs and expectations. I've always loved the Mission Valley Dentists office but my appointment today with Dr. Jon Gille was the best dentist appointment I've ever had. I was in extreme pain and needed a root canal urgently. He got me prepped. Rhe benefits coordinator got me scheduled same day with specialist at alternate location. Assistants Feven and Jose were both considerate and highly skilled. I know most people don't leave a root canal ready to start a fan club but this was genuinely world class service. Similar to other reviews, I am not sure if I was getting upsold for an advanced cleaning. Everything seemed really professional all the way through my x-rays. The dentist was also really professional after examining my teeth but wanted to check for early stages of periodontitis. To my surprise, he had mentioned that I may want to consider a couple of advanced cleanings specifically related to remove the additional bacteria that lays beneath the gums. I had asked if my insurance would cover this and then a few minutes later the insurance specialist came into the room going over how much it would cost after my insurance (about $700). I take excellent care of my teeth, I did want a basic cleaning but they had mentioned they wouldn't be able to do this if I wanted to resort to the advanced cleaning. Just seemed a little fishy, especially considering there are other similar reviews on here. I ended up leaving and not getting any cleaning done, so it was honestly a waste of time. Walking in it looks like it is going to be alright, after my X-rays for a "free consult" they moved me to an exam room yet I never got an exam. One was about a little girl whose pain he didn't consider and another saying they scam out their walls. They never checked my mouth only X-rays. They also said it was free and then charged me $365 for photos that I didn't even get to keep. And they will not transfer them for u. Legally I paid I get the photos n it not according to them. They have continued scamming me and took $200 from my insurance card for no reason and then requested that I owe them $100 from my own pocket. This place is a scam center and full of children. All they took when I got there was my name and my phone number I had to give them my email for scheduling they didn't ask and mind u I was supposed to have a surgery and they didn't even plan that right and had no contact for me except my cell. There was no paper work shown to me or signed off until I decided not to use them and go else where when more necessary. Also still have had them taken out and I feel fine with no pain. Took a chance with this Dental office due to the location. The Doctor assigned to me was Sarah Chilmeran. She is more than what you would want in a dentist and thats a serious understatement. Today was my third visit and it was just as pleasant as the last two. Maybe even smoother since i'v become accustom somewhat to having two peoples fingers up in my mouth, lips feeling like theyre being stretched in ways they arent supposed to, needles stabbing into my gums, throat fighting for dear life to not open while street construction is going on in my mouth, jaw enduring something sort of a 3rd world torture endurance test and dental drills vibrating my skull to hell... Knowing it was Sarah Chilmeran at the healm put my mind at ease and enabled me to refrain from, wincing and gripping the arm rests in agony like a wimp. BEWARE. Read all reviews before going to MV Dentists. After the dentist reviewed my x-rays, she walked into the room stating, "Have I got a plan for your teeth,". This made me nervous. This was my annual review. They told me total dental costs would be $11.3K (my out-of-pocket costs would be $6.6K and my insurance would then cover the balance). I left there suspicious and doubtful. So two weeks later (10/27/22), I paid $261 out of pocket to go to a NEW unrelated dentist, I did not tell them what happened. I went in as a new patient. The dentist did not say that I needed the dental work described to me with the price tag of $11.3K. But he did do a good job of going over my teeth in detail while he pointed to each tooth on the x-rays. My teeth are fine. I never told him about the MV dentist. I'm moving my whole family to this practice!!! Amazingly friendly and efficient staff. I brought my 4 year old for her first dental visit on the new patient special and was blown away by the time and patience they took with her. Just playful and kind and she left with the biggest brightest smile and an excitement about dental care. The receptionist even printed out the kindergarten form that I had forgotten at home and had it filled out right there on the spot. It's clean and professional with plenty of parking available at this central mission valley location. Couldn't be happier and we will all be returning. I highly recommend. They take my HMO as well. I made an appt for a diagnosis on a cavity/ to get a fill and when I called to say I was running five minutes late I was told I wasnt on the schedule. I was set up with an appt for the next couple days due to the inconvenience but when I arrived it was for a cleaning, something I said over the phone I wanted done after the fill, so when I showed up the doctor did not have the time. Since I was there I wanted a cleaning at the very least but at this point it was 20 min before close. I did not get a cleaning that visit. My main reason for writing this review tho is because of the techs (assistants) attitude with me during the appt. I know mistakes happen, and I was understanding that the doctor was therefore busy, but it was the techs unwillingness to understand my situation and begin badgering me on needing a diagnosis to do a fill. Unfortunately I don't remember her name but when I voiced I was there for the diagnosis and potential fill for a cavity she treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about because my chart didn't show that I had a cavity, rather than it being a miscommunication on their end because that is what I had been trying to schedule for. But I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing and making last minute, unreasonable requests to a cleaning appt. We went back and forth several times to her condescendingly saying I would need an exam for the cavity to which I kept saying that that was what I was there for. She even rolled her eyes at me. Once I said I don't like how she was speaking to me her attitude shifted and she started asking the appropriate questions. She learned that I was diagnosed elsewhere and because they didn't take my insurance I opted to get it done with this office and that I understand I need to get diagnosed through each office, I am a healthcare tech myself. I went here over a year ago and am still getting sent random bills from them that should've gone to my insurance a long time ago. They charged me over $1000 at my appointment stating that my insurance was maxed out. I found out later on that my insurance was not maxed out and they would have covered it. They also told me I had to go back for a deep cleaning that would cost me $900. On top of this, I was pregnant and told them multiple times that I would not get an x-ray due to my doctor's request and my high risk pregnancy.
