I went to this place as a new patient and was told I need a crown and deep cleanings, for which my copay would be around $2k, not to mention the irreversible nature of a crown. I decided to get a second opinion from a dentist I know personally and was told all I need is a normal cleaning and filling, and I'm being scammed. Apparently this place is owned by Pacific Dental which is a corporate dental conglomerate which has a reputation in the dental community for prescribing unnecessary services like crowns. Absolutely DO NOT visit this dentist unless you plan on dealing with billing issues for months on end. Their dental care is fine - they certainly have the most updated and expensive equipment, but you will likely end up paying for it. Their dental staff will sell you on the necessity of certain services but then cannot be bothered to write a justification for dental insurance, which results in their services not being covered. For example, for months, they have failed (or refused) to provide the needed x-rays or documentation to my insurance to justify the necessity of the services they provided. For example, they listed "unspecified procedure" 4x on my bill so that insurance could not understand what procedure they provided so, rightfully, they did not pay. This amounted to over $700 to the patient responsibility. They also apparently provided "oral hygiene instructions" (I.e. a paper print-out with a few bullet points) which they charged me $88 for. Buyer beware - if you do want to risk going to this dentist, be sure to ask for a Pre-Treatment Estimate BEFORE your visit and send to your insurer to review and approve BEFORE your appointment. I asked them for one months before my appointment, and still have received no reply. I will not be returning to this dentist. read more

Pros: The hygienist who worked on me did a stellar job. They have the latest technology for doing X-rays and clean offices with minimal aesthetics. The staff and dentist all seemed nice. Even though I sent them my dental X-rays from another office which was taken just in January and had informed them I maxed out my benefits for X-rays, they offered to comp my X-rays if my insurance wouldn't cover it because they wanted their own set for me as a new patient. Cons: As a new patient, it seems they don't care about your time. It took 2.5 hours to leave their office. I showed up at the designated appointment time at 2pm and was done with paperwork in 10 min. It took an hour to actually get into the dental chair. Also, they charged for mouth numbing cream when my last dental office did not. I went here because this office was in my network. If you have time to spare, they do a good job here with teeth cleanings. However, it'll cost you additional time. read more

Wonderful! Front desk, hygienists and dentists, everyone was super nice, very informative and transparent and the environment was very relaxing and accommodating. The staff make you feel comfortable, explain all the procedures, and are transparent and up front with pricing, both for insurance and out of pocket costs. Avoid this place at all costs. I've been coming here for years and in the last 3 years they've gone completely downhill, always looking for sneaky ways to upcharge and providing incorrect information. I just showed up for my appointment, which was confirmed via a phone call as they had wanted me to come in earlier than scheduled due to needing xrays. I declined xrays due being pregnant and was told on the phone no problem we can still do the exam and cleaning. When I arrived, I was told that my insurance wouldn't cover my cleaning without an Xray, because it is "a treatment" and "not preventative". I left fuming because what an absolute waste of time after having confirmed on the phone that I wouldn't be doing xrays. Well, surprise surprise, they were either lying to try and bill more to my insurance for xrays, or they were giving me false information. I called my insurance and my cleaning is covered 2x a year, is preventative, and absolutely doesn't require xrays especially if I'm pregnant. Never come here. Took 3 hours for a wisdom tooth appointment which ended up not happening. I called the front desk 3 times within 2 months leading up the appointment to ask the surgeon to make sure he had the x-rays and knew which teeth to extract. No phone call back. I show up today and he says they need a new x ray but they can't do it because their machine is broken. The front desk said 10-15 minutes. Ended up waiting for nearly 3 hours. Ali Sami "graciously" offered to explain why he needed the new x-ray once I threatened to leave after the 3 hours. Would've loved the front desk sending my x-ray files over to him in the 2 months leading up to today. Or maybe they did and he just didn't want to review them till today. What a joke. He offered to just do one tooth since I was waiting so long, but how could I trust him to do even one if he's that unorganized/lazy. read more

10/10 would recommend. I HATE going to the dentist, had an awful experience in the past which kept me away for a solid 4-5 years. After my coworker told me about Dr. Grace Fedor I decided to try. My first visit was great, very detailed, and Dr. Fedor made me feel at ease, the X-rays were easy, and my cleaning was great. Fast forward 2 years later, I came back because I had some random pain, and thought it was best to get it checked out. I went in yesterday, mind you I was able to be scheduled and seen in under 1 week! The minute I walked in the front staff made me feel so comfortable, they were so welcoming and friendly. MY x-ray technician, I believe her name was Kim, was the sweetest! She understood my anxiety and made sure she told me eveyhting that was happneing and also helped me relax a little by discussing things outside the dental office, like traffic how long we had been in our jobs and so forth. She also offered me waters, a blanket or even a squeeze ball if I needed it. Dr. Fedor was so fantastic like she was before. I needed a new crown and she was able to do it same day, and it was so easy. She made me feel like a friend and I never once felt pain, or like she was trying to gouge me for extra money. She was very transparent and honest about everything she recommended. I am not as anxious about going back and look forward to my next cleaning with her! read more

Nice area, friendly staffs. All my dental concerns were addressed by the doctor after I got my cleaning and X-rays checkup. I was happy to have my cleaning done by a truly excpetional hygienist, Vivian. Not only did she used the ultrasonic, Vivian utilized manual hand scale to make sure all the corners of my teeth were clear from food debris/ build up. Yesterday was my second time to this dentist and my first time back to any dentist in over three years. Like most, I do not enjoy going to the dentist... at all. Luckily, I've never had any major dental issues, but I always felt that dentists try to price gauge and charge for things you really don't need. I never felt that way at Serra Mesa. My first time there was in 2019, as I was referred by a coworker who had the same insurance. That time, I was impressed. They were timely, friendly, and I met the main dentist, Dr. Fedor, who was very personable. My x-rays and cleaning were all covered by insurance. She noted that my tooth was chipped, and stated that it was completely optional to get fixed. They gave me a very reasonable price quote, and let me know I could get it done right away, which I chose to do. It was a quick fix and I now have a nicer smile as a result. Yesterday, I finally went back. I had the x-rays, and then a different dentist came in. I could have sworn that my appointment had Dr. Fedor's name on it. I told him that I expected the other dentist. He did offer to get her, but at the moment, I was wanting to get the check-up done and get back to work as quickly as possible. He was fine, but I think next time I will request the first dentist specifically. I think the reason that I didn't get placed with the original dentist was most likely because after two years, you start over with new patient paperwork. However, when I arrived, they quickly located my records from 2019. Still, I felt that the service was timely, friendly, and clean. I needed an extra deep cleaning, but they gave me a very reasonable price quote for my copay which I approved. I then got back to work on time. All in all, I recommend this place. Beware of what you're signing when you check-in for your appointment! They have you sign paperwork that isn't shown to you by using one of those signature pads. All the customer sees is the back of the monitor as the billing clerk tells you (she does not read it verbatim) what the agreement says. This cost me $406 that I was not expecting. I wrote and hand-delivered a letter for the owner, Dr. Grace Fedor and asked her to consider adding a monitor so customers can read what they're signing up for. That was over 60 days ago and I never got any acknowledgement. That's a bad business practice. I had been extremely pleased with the care I received from Dr. Hobbs and Dr. Fedor but after this incident, I found another dentist that is more transparent in their billing. read more

It seems like they've been having staffing issues lately. My dentist cleaning follow up was scheduled 6 months ago. 1 week before my appointment, I was called and told that the dentist I had an appointment with is no longer there and they only have openings with the current dentist starting 2.5 months later. They said I can still come in for a cleaning with the hygienist on the scheduled date, but asked if I could move my appointment up by 30 minutes. I said that's fine. On the day of my appointment, I arrived 10 minutes before my time, but heard the staff say they're running behind schedule. I was called inside to sit in the dental chair and fitted with a bib and shades. Then I was notified that they're running a little behind schedule and it'll be 15 minutes before the hygienist can do my cleaning. It ended up being 40 minutes. To help with the wait, they offered me water and did the dental polish before the dental cleaning. Staff skill during the procedures has always been great! Very gentle and thorough work. But overall I wish my appointment hadn't been pushed up by 30 min just to have it start 40 min later. I'm sad to say I might need to find another office. I've been going out of the way to come here due to Saturday appointments (which they no longer have) and convenient scheduling (after this visit, no longer the case). The staff's skill is very good and I've experienced the least pain here, but I don't think it's worth the distance and time for me anymore. read more

I gave them two stars because the hygienist, the dentist, and all back of the office staff were nice, professional, and did good work. However, there is a huge problem when it comes to billing. First, I have excellent insurance. I was quoted thousands of dollars, my costs after insurance, $3,000. I agreed on the cost, and paid around $1000.00. A week or so later, I received documentation from my insurance. The EOBs stated my insurance paid most of the work. According to my insurance, I should have paid about $400.00 less of what I paid. I took my bill and my insurance documents and showed them to the billing person. I figured, with my supporting documents, there would be no problem getting a partial refund. I was told, "we don't do refunds". I showed her my supporting documents again, and she pushed them back at me. My insurance company got involved, and when all was said and done, Serra Mesa agreed to refund me a little over $300.00. That was about 3 weeks ago, and there's still no refund. Before I started with the dentist, I looked them up on Yelp. There were a few low ratings, but it wasn't horrible. What I should have done is search out Google reviews. There are several dozen recent reviews complaining about being over charged. Buyer beware. read more

Do your homework and read the reviews before you go there. I have been with them for years for basic exam cleaning that my insurance covers twice a year. On my last visit they "required" deeper cleaning that wasn't covered by insurance. I declined and they gave me a lame cleaning after repeatedly I asked for. Today I called the front desk and they made it sound like they might decline cleaning service again if they see necessary since I didn't get deeper cleaning done. I like Dr Fedor but I can not trust their diagnosis at this point. Also, there is lack of continuation of care due to high staff turnover. Read the reviews on google. This practice does balance billing.... "Surprise Billing". They will overcharge you AND will try to give you an incorrect quote that will cost you thousands of dollars . Look elsewhere for dental care, they charged me $1,230 for a crown when I was only responsible to pay $150 out of pocket WITH my insurance. I filed a grievance with my insurance and I was owed a refund. Call your insurance first to verify they are giving you an accurate quote before you start any dental work with them or with any dental office. read more

So, my wife needed some work done and we thought we had found our dentist. When she was done with her first treatment, they asked for a large payment, which we made. They asked if we wanted them to bill my dental insurance, and we said "of course." I paid them $1,747.50. I got my Met Life Dental EOB's and I don't owe as much as they said I would owe. I love this office so much. They are always so kind and considerate to me, even when I am struggling with my mental health or need to pay in installments. Dr. Grace is the kindest dentist I've ever had. The periodontist is so gentle with me, I usually fall asleep on his chair. They have warm blankies. There is parking. I drive from LA to come to this office. Dr. Fedor was highly recommended to me. I started coming here in 2023. Before that my last visit to a dentist was late 2019. What initially brought me in was to replace a broken crown (2nd time it broke) that I had put in from a different Dentist's Office. On top of a broken crown, I needed a lot of other work done. Dr. Fedor recommended what was necessary first and what I should prioritize. I loved that I didn't feel pressured to do everything all at one time. Everyone at the office is really sweet and super helpful. They must have switched management in recent years. Had to call them 6 times through a span of a month or so for them to finally clear up some questions about my outstanding balance. Everytime they would say they are going to call me back by day's end and it didn't happen. Been a returning client for probably over 5 years and will not be coming back. They gave me an amount. I've paid for it while getting the procedure done. A month later, they send me an invoice for an outstanding balance? Tried to get some clarification and 3 different employees weren't able to help. They will try to upsell you and do procedures thar tou opt out of. Told them I wasn't interested in the fluoride flush, and yet the hygienist did it and now I'm charged for it. I agree with the reviews here, so please tread carefully. They tried to do so many unnecessary things like taking blood pressure, asking for my *medical* insurance and so many x-rays for a mere dental cleaning. I also felt like I was getting scammed here, I didn't trust anything they said I needed because of all the random extra services they pushed to me. The dentist said my teeth and gums look fine but I needed some crowns apparently? It doesn't make any sense at all that the x-rays and mouth exam have different conclusions. I only needed to find a new dentist now because I have moved. My previous dentist was super attentive and never at one point was so pushy for upselling. It was like a night and day experience. I had been sent to this dentist office by my dental insurance agent since it was covered by my plan and close to my office. I went purely out of convenience and finally I am leaving after a couple years of using them . They were quick on adding in a lot of upsells to me when I was laying in the dental chair with my mouth open and obviously I could not have checked with my insurance prior to see if they all were covered . I don't have any major issues with my teeth but I was told I needed a periodontal cleaning. They added in some laser gum treatment combined with some kind of anti microbial rinse of some sort. I end up on the hook for $1200 after it was all said and done. They showed 0 sympathy for this and on top of that has anyone seen a dentist charge an extra charge for fluoride on a standard cleaning? I haven't until I came here. Lastly, I call this week to book my next appointment and the soonest they can get me in is 4 months away. That says something about their sense of urgency or time management skills , I advised the receptionist I was talking to that I need a little faster service than that and I'll likely be forced to look elsewhere ( in a very polite way). I'll start with the positive - really nice office with amazing x-ray equipment, and competent dentists, hygienists, and techs. I won't be going back here after several hassles with the office staff. From making me sign a million forms just to be a patient there -- and I had to ask to actually read the forms because they were telling me to just sign without reading anything -- to changing my appointment time without asking me first, it's been unpleasant from the start. The last straw came last month, when they called me THE DAY BEFORE my appointment which I had scheduled 6 months in advance to tell me that they had to reschedule, and that the soonest they could offer me was a month and a half later. I understand things coming up and needing to reschedule, but to not have an appointment for a month and a half is not acceptable, especially because I already hadn't had good experiences with their customer service. They try to convince you to get tons of unnecessary dental work and I still have issues from the work I got done here. I started going to Dr. Fedora in August of 2022 for an implant. The first visit I had a good experience. I was given information regarding the plan for treatment and everyone was friendly. But it all went downhill from there. I've contemplated writing a review because I typically l only leave positive reviews but feel the next person should be well-informed before coming here as I relied on reviews when choosing this place. To make this easy and simple here is a list of cons: 1. When extracting my old crown they chipped my front tooth. No apology, telling me my tooth was like that prior yet promised me next visit they would fix it. I took a picture while in the chair to send to my husband so I had proof my tooth was definitely NOT like that before. Next visit they forgot to schedule time to fix my front tooth like they had promised so once again I had to wait until next visit to get it fixed. 2. The communication is terrible when there is any communication. I missed work several times to come in just to leave because they were not prepared or didn't have my temp. 3. Dr. Fedora is not approachable or friendly. She went to school for this I did not. So I am going to have questions (since she doesn't taken it upon herself to explain the process of things) I paid A LOT of money for my crown and when I asked to look at it she gave me a very discontent look and said, "well you won't really be able to tell much by looking at it." I need to know I will be happy for the tooth she was about to permanently screw into my mouth before this process was prolonged even more. Then tried to screw my crown in without any local aesthetics and when I asked for it due to discomfort she injected me and immediately started working again. 4. They tell you there's a co-pay for cleaning but in reality it is optional if you want fluoride. I opted for it then had a very rushed cleaning after waiting 40 minutes in the chair and was about to be sent off without my $22 fluoride until I said something (again TERRIBLE communication). So she sat me back down and just rubbed some stuff of my teeth. 5. You will wait. Longer than at least I think anyone should wait for a SCHEDULED appointment. Every time. For some reason or another. 6. They gave me one price for treatment which was ridiculous. So I requested they submit a claim to my dentist to ensure their pricing was correct and then all of a sudden it was about $1500 cheaper. 7. I had to pay $199 out of pocket for a special scan to ensure my bone was ready for the implant. Which was done too early so they requested I do it again and pay another $199 to which I said absolutely not as it was their error for sending me to get it too early. Truly disappointed. I work for a big property management company in SD and will ensure to not recommend this location to anyone. read more

I was double charged on my credit card for a procedure that was over $1000. After numerous phone calls to the office and to my Visa card, the office finally realized it was their error. I am upset that it took over 2 days to resolve and then an apology wasn't offered for the extra work and time it took me to have the issue resolved. It still isn't entirely resolved, but at least headway is being made. I feel the dentists, hygienists and dental assistants are excellent in this practice, but business staff is not up to the same standards. read more

I called this dental office since it's within my insurance. I let them know that my current dentist don't have anymore appointment available to see me for 2022 & I might not have insurance for next year. I told them that my current dentist sent me X-ray so this office's dentist can see if they can assist me. Before making the appointment to see them. I was told that they do not charge for the consultation. When I got there, the male manager & a receptionist kept saying "Oh, don't worry, our dentist can take a look without any charge & we can do some X-Ray free if it's neccesary. And It won't cost you anything for X-ray or for the consultation. And if there's any work done, then we can bill your insurance for the work" They never inform customers of all these documents prior to visit. They made me sign at least a dozen lengthy legal terminologies documents on their IPad which most people would take at least an hour or more to read. And they won't see you until you have signed all these documents. Once they sat you down on a chair in the back room, there was a camera on the computer screen in front facing your entire face & body. The techician told me to look toward that camera since they're recording or taking picture, while she's about to take my Xray. I felt really weird & told them that I don't feel comfortable for them to take any of my picture or recording me. She went in front office to tell the manager. Then few minutes later, the receptionist came & started to prepare to take my X-ray while saying: "this is how we do things around here & I'm going to take your X-ray Ok". And she's about to wrap the X-ray blanket over me while pointing to the camera in front to ask me to look at that camera..I stood up & said that I really feel uncomfortable with all these process so I don't want to proceed with any X-Ray or consultation. I even asked the male manager there to delete my profile from their Ipad & get rid of all the documents that I had to sign there since I don't want to be a customer there, and they have not done any work on me on that day. He told me that he had already delete my profile & everything I had signed earlier. So there was not any work done on me on that day for X-Ray nor consultation since I felt really weird with the entire process from all documentations they made customers sign, cameras taking pictures or recording of customers & other unneccesary processes. I'm very upset that now they sent me a bill. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
