Given the reviews - it's unanimous - no one enjoys going to the dentist. It's a lot like going to the auto mechanic - once they open the hood, they are going to find something wrong and it's usually expensive. But NP Modern Dentistry is not like that at all. They've always been upfront and honest - backed it up with a few key x-rays - and more importantly - gentle when picking around in there. Dr. Holly is amazing, and the added bonus of the CEREC machine to 3D print those chompers. I am soo thankful for everyone's reviews of this place! I accidentally booked an appointment here instead of the dentist I wanted because the names are similar. They had me do two different xrays, which required me to take out all of my piercings. The tech was patient with me as I took them all out. When it was time for my actual appointment, I thought everything was going great until they told me I had a cavity that required "special" treatment. This seemed very weird to me, especially because they didn't tell or show me where in my mouth the cavity was and went through the xrays too quickly for me to analyze. I have always had a sweet tooth, so I am no stranger to cavities, but I have never heard of this "special" treatment before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On top of that, every staff member I talked with told me different things about the health of my teeth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was shocked when a staff member came in to discuss billing with me for this "special" treatment. It was going to cost me $500 WITH insurance! AND they asked me to pay for it right then and there. Needless to say, I was shocked and confused by everything so I decided to just make an appointment for the future. That caused nothing but problems--major infection (the worst the endodonist had seen) and another crown. They also recently tried to talk me into a deep cleaning that was not needed (another dentist) and then my crown fell off this weekend. Less than 2 years later after I bit into bread. Ridiculous It also has been causing pain for the whole time I've had it and they said it was normal. I don't think so. Had a root canal and the room they put me in had nice big windows providing a great view of the bar across the street where I drank whiskey cokes for years (which is probably why I had to have the root canal in the first place). I had work done with them. Paid everything up front they told me I was my responsible for. A few weeks went by and I then noticed an amount on my account that still needed to be paid. I call the office they said the insurance company was sending me a check for that amount and that I probably should have already received it. I had not. They said they had already sent a check and it must have gotten lost in the mail because I had not received it. They said they would cancel the old check and send a new check out right away. I called the office back to let them know about the situation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However about 2 weeks after those phone calls they still sent my debt to a debt collection agency that called me non-stop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I called them and asked them why they did that when they knew the situation, they said it was their policy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So for 3 weeks while I was waiting for the insurance check to come in. I got constant non stop calls from the debt collection agency. I brought it into their office and told them I would sign it over to them if they called the debt collection agency and stopped the harassing phone calls. They said they had no way to do that. They go through a third party and that they would get ahold of them and eventually the phone calls would stop. I do have dental insurance, but I was told a lot of the cost was tied to their "premium" materials/supplies that typical insurance doesn't cover. It felt like a nickel-and-dime approach rather than transparent, patient-first care. The most concerning part: the assessment was so fast that they didn't identify an urgent issue that later turned out to require an emergency root canal. That's not something you want missed during a dental exam. If you're looking for a more thorough exam and clearer pricing, I'd recommend saving your time and money and going to Kensington Dental Group instead. In my experience, they provide better quality service, a stronger dental team, and much more transparent pricing. read more

I've been coming here since 2021, and have seen multiple dentists. I've had a great experience with Dr. Holly and the business is always clean. They used to be open Saturdays but not any longer. Dr. Golez was very nice but he made a mistake of telling me my fluoride treatment costed $50. I told him I had called my insurance and they said my policy included 2 free fluoride treatments a year. He later returned (after I had already finished my bi yearly cleaning and nearly finished with my visit) to tell me that I was correct. But that's not really the reason for the 3 stars. My teeth cleaning overall didn't feel so clean. Additionally, I expressed wanting to get a customized night guard due to issues with teeth grinding. I was told it'd be fairly quick to get the digital impressions taken. Well... they had a newer young lady take the digital impressions for my night guard and it took longer than I was hoping because I was here on my lunch break, so time was of the essence. Another young lady, who took over for her, did it much quicker and more efficient... she should've just done it for me from the start. I didn't have time for a trainee lol. On 11/5/2024, I went to Modern Dentistry as a new patient. I had one of my best dental experiences ever. I was shocked and impressed. Below are some of my highlights. The equipment they used all seemed much more advanced than other places. The 3D scanner stuff is cool. I think this is efficient and also an example of excellent communication, making sure we are all on the same page and that there are no surprises.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I mentioned to my dentist that I have $1000 of dental funds on a debit card that I need to use by the end of the year, and I inquired about crowns. I assumed they were a good proactive thing to do for everyone. She strongly discouraged me from them as I do not need them. She could have easily made some money off of me. AVOID FOR BAD MANAGEMENT - This place takes forever to schedule a appointment. The website when you schedule specifically asks "have you visited the office in the last two years" I selected no (see attached photo) as I had been seen there in 2021 but had not been there in two years. I booked the appointments available ( which more than six weeks in advance) and called out of work. One week before the appointment I get a nasty call from the office manager stating that because I "incorrectly" booked my appointment as a "new patient" they would have to cancel and move me to another date........and the only dates would be another six weeks away. I then told the manager: (1) that I didn't schedule as a new patient - all I did was answer their website questions truthfully to make a appointment; and (2) because their system is messed up they were now giving my long booked appointment away? The manager said that "she didn't know anything about the website saying that" and that it was my problem and she was adamant I couldn't use my appointment time (again please see the website which has giant buttons asking). I was going for a breakage in the filling THIS OFFICE put in my mouth and my appointment was already urgent and I had waited this long. I was Referred her by Santee Smiles for a tooth Extraction. They were able to get me in the next day on a Saturday. Their office is very nice and the staff are very friendly and professional. They also have a super cute and sweet dog hanging out in there. It was a super easy and fast check in process. Only one analog paper form to fill out. Everything else is signed digitally on the computer. I highly recommend this dentist and they were very efficient. I didn't wait long at all and they got through my procedure very quick. Changed my dentist to this dentist after my original dentist - Kensington dental who I also do not recommend - filled a tooth that left me to need a root canal 2 times! Unknown to me, this is their partner practice. When I booked an appointment they kept denying me care trying to force me to go back to Kensington when it shows on my record I suffered a miscarriage after leaving Kensington office from all the medication they gave me instead of performing a root canal. When I walked into this office the front desk clerk dismissed me immediately telling me to sit and wait but helped 2 other ppl immediately upon arrival while I was waiting. When I walked up to remind her I was waiting she already knew what I was there for and needed WITHOUT EVEN ASKING MY NAME. She clearly was in cahoots with Kensington and trying to bully me into leaving. I have always gotten cleaning at every dentist I have ever been to. I was refused a cleaning they said either deep or none My insurance says I'm entitled to 2 a year. I refused the deep cleaning I said anything is better then nothing. I was quoted over $13,000 for 2 crowns replacement mine & a root canal- this would be my cost in addition they would bill the insurance the rest! So basically they want to charge for what you can get a used car for probably after billing insurance what 25k? I did have a tooth that broke the same day as my appointment an hr after I left it was not a crowned one it was a coincidence- they didn't even see it on the X-ray this tooth was cracked or whatever. Now I'm concerned the work done won't last since this place only cares about money rather then level of care. I went back to have it repaired they put a crown on it my portion was $1,300. After speaking to friends that have the same insurance they said my cost was outrageous even one friend had 3 oral surgeries 2 crowns root canals replaced a tooth her insurance was billed 7,000( this place as stated above) wanted to chg me $13,000 for less work then what she had done. I called my insurance broker told her the story she asked me to give her the code that they put they should've charged me half of what I paid they charge more than double of what they should to begin with. The sad part is I never got my cleaning and now I have to find a new dentist and pay out-of-pocket to do a cleaning since I had my one exam that I was entitled to. My appointment was with Holly I asked for her intentionally even her name was stated as my dentist on my appt. However I was told she was busy. I said on my next appointment I'd like to see her since just X-rays we're taken this time receptionist said sure, nope it didn't happen. I actually saw Holly she was in a tshirt & jeans so she was there she popped out to the front for a moment. This office does not answer their phone or follow up it goes into VM I have left messages & an email requesting a copy of my record & XRays I want my new dentist to see what was written & I don't need another set of X-rays the new dentist would use these she's not a rip off. I realize it is a tough to find a trustworthy dentist that is not just looking to slam your insurance with as much charges as they can.. Well, I found more of that here. I came in for an initial visit exam after not visiting the dentist for some time. No cost breakdown or copay was ever discussed. I expected a cost, but expected it to be minimal as has been the case with other first time visits for me and my family. Nope, a few weeks later I receive a bill in the mail for nearly $500, I had no actual service or procedure done other than xrays. The first bad sign was when the receptionist that checked me in initially also came back and provided treatment advice for me.. This was mostly ignored, what qualifications do you have sir? Let me talk to the doctor. What an absolute joke. Now I need to waste time sorting this out with my insurance due to the incompetent and money hungry staff at this office. read more

BEWARE! I wish I could give zero stars. I have been going to the same dentist for 15 years. When he stopped accepting my insurance, I decided to give this place a try. I was forced to pay $90 for a whole head x-ray, which insurance didn't cover, especially because they won't cover it if you get normal bitewing x-rays on the same visit. Turns out this whole head x-ray can't be used in a diagnostic capacity (i.e., to find cavities), and only shows bone structure, which is only relevant if you are prepping for oral surgery. Then I received a full exam. I take crazy good care of my teeth. I do have receding gums, bone loss, and some deep gum pockets, but now all of a sudden I am told I have "severe gum disease" and need a special deep cleaning below the gum line, which will cost me $500 out of pocket. Then, I won't be able to do regular cleanings, which insurance will cover, and instead will need "maintenance" cleanings which will cost me $90 each, 4 times per year. I declined and asked for a normal cleaning. They refused, saying that because I was diagnosed with severe gum disease, it wasn't safe for me to have a normal cleaning because my mouth and gum pockets were full of bacteria that would spread and make me sick if they did a normal cleaning. I went back to my original dentist, and he confirmed that I definitely do not have severe gum disease and that this is an upsell scam that a lot of dentists use to make more money off the patient because insurance just doesn't pay enough for a regular cleaning. I hope this helps inform. Make the choices that are right for you. But I want to my old dentist today and got a regular cleaning for $30 out of pocket. My teeth feel great. read more

Where do I start. Mind you, my husband referred me to this office. From the beginning, I waited 45m before being seen by anyone. Apparently the front desk forgot to check me in, I was cool accidents happen. I was required x-rays, which I originally refused as I am pregnant. Doctor said my OBGYN cleared it so he wouldn't be able to do anything (I.e. cleaning) without the x-rays. (My last dentist did an oral exam and waited to do X-rays while pregnant) Fine, I took the x-rays as dental health is important right now especially due to pregnancy. After an hour with the dentist, I was told I have no cavities... but he leaves, comes back and then he recommended a limited deep cleaning which go under your gums, I had a second opinion and was told by a dentist that unless I have 5mm pockets I don't need it. (Which I don't) I reached out to customer service for a copy of my x-rays and to schedule a regular cleaning and they have not responded. It's been a few days. I ended up leaving before I even got the quote because I had already been there over two hours with virtually just an oral exam done. Overall it as a waste of time AND money considering I had to also hire a babysitter to watch my daughter. 0/10 would not recommend. Don't be surprised if you need a limited cleaning with irrigation and laser - more than likely your insurance sucks and this is how they make their money off you. read more

I haven't been to the dentist since the pandemic started and I really needed to find someone who took my insurance. North Park Modern Dentistry had good reviews, took my insurance, and it was easy to make a very quick appointment. The office was very clean and the equipment all seemed up to date. The technician who took my x-rays was excellent and I met with Dr. Hinderberger to discuss treatment. I really like having a woman dentist and she spent time with me explaining options that were available and we made a plan to proceed. I asked about the cost, and she said the office staff would give me an estimate. That's where the problems started. I have a copy of my insurance plan and it clearly says I should have no co-payment for Scaling and Root Planing (ADA D4341). But the estimate of patient cost I was given was for an $80 co-payment. I called Delta and they confirmed there should be no co-payment under my plan. I have called the office several times asking to speak to the insurance person to try to resolve this and she is refusing to return my phone calls. My choices now are to find another dentist or pay the $80. Neither option is really acceptable. read more

But good god, negative stars for the dental hygienist, Justine I believe is her name. Highly recommend! I have LOTS of anxiety about going to the dentist! Came to get the works done, been a little while considering the pandemic and I had such a great experience! Okay so, I found parking instantly on the street super easy! Then as soon as I got through the door I was warmly greeted by Karina who calmed my nerves and told me what the breakdown for a first time visit with them. I didn't wait to long at all until I was seen by Bri and Dr. Pierle who charted and did my exam. They were thorough and informative, and let you know every step of the way what's going on so there are no surprises. Very calming, as well. On my second visit a week later I had the same consistent experience! This time I had Justine the dental hygienist who was a total darling! The reason I left my last dentist was because my hygienist was not only rude but she was no where near as gentle and thorough as Justine! Last but not least the cherry on top was getting fitted for my mouth guard with Bee and Karina! It was quick and easy and now I've got one rocking electric blue mouth guard keeping the nights safe:) Top notch customer care, I've never felt so taken care of at the dentist! I really loved this place but what happened?!? Another "Covid" excuse? Went in to get 2 crowns removed- was never told I had extra work, no glasses to cover my face so tooth bits and water all over my face and eyeballs. Little communication, long periods of opening my mouth and a sore jaw... they kept trying to upsell me with their "instant" crowns and couldn't give me an exact wait time on my permanent crowns... and this was days ago... still experiencing pain. They made it out like I was the one making it weird when I complained and then they came back and said they had done their due diligence and the out of pocket cost was actually $500 rather than $1200. Wouldn't even apologize after I asked them to after a week of follow up for the reimbursement. Obviously this is the experience they want to provide (but they would prefer if people didn't get upset for being charged more than double for no reason). I wish remembered everyone's names, because everyone I met deserves a 5-star review! Parking: It's metered, 2-hour parking right out front, and in the neighborhood it's M/T street sweeping 10-1pm on the 2nd & 4th weeks of the month - so yes, parking can be a little tricky especially during those times, but it's really not a bad walk (I parked across the street near the laundromat). Check-in: They use an app/online service called Smile Generation to keep track of your history and to help speed along the check-in process before you come in, which was nice to have the option of getting paperwork squared away before visiting in office. Front desk was friendly and helpful, and they were true to the appointment time, maybe even a little early which was nice. First Visit: They tell you in advance to set aside 2-hours for your first visit, and it's true - a lot happens! Plan for a bunch of x-rays so they can get to know your pearly whites. They use digital X-rays, which I think most offices do these days. After settling in a room, it was a bit of a waiting game but I think that's to be expected. I met Dr. Sergio Juca and from start to finish I could tell he genuinely cared about not only my health and well-being, but also about educating me on my dental health and what everything meant which I have NEVER had at another dentist office. Him and the assistants were nothing but kind, and I found myself genuinely enjoying all of their companies! Dr. Juca let me know the high priority cases, and from there introduced me to the office manager (Sam, I believe) who let me know about payment plans, what my insurance covered, and all the rest of the financial and scheduling aspects. She too was very knowledgeable. They then cleaned up my teeth after Dr. Juca first removed some build-up (this is normal, and it's why they use the mini drill), and then finished off with a fluoride treatment. Paul was the assistant (I'm actually not sure of his official title) that did the cleaning and fluoride and he was ACTUALLY hysterical. Follow-Up: I came in to take care of the high priorities today, and the positive impression from my first visit stays consistent! I can tell everyone is smiling under their masks, they really do seem happy and knowledgeable in their work. Also want to mention that they were very conscientious about making sure my bite felt good after each new filling, and had no problem making adjustments by sanding/drilling anything that felt out of place. I love that they were very attentive to any discomfort I may have had! Overall: All in all, I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for a dentistry that feels more like a family that happens to be professionals, over just professionals. Their confidence feels trustworthy, but they also have a great sense of humor. I feel like some people would discredit any playfulness at a dentist/doctor office, but rest assured this playfulness does not take away from the great work ethic and knowledge behind this team. After months as a client, I can truly caution you to attend this office. I waited to write this review as I never want to negatively impact a business but I think its important people consider whether this office is a good fit for them. If all you need is basic cleanings and services, I'm sure this is a great office - but if you have any complex issues, I would recommend going somewhere that is really invested in their patients. At first, my experience with Dr. Holly was great. she seemed to genuinely care about figuring out my dental issue - I had about 6 appts within a few months - and things were always positive. Keep in mind, my insurance was being billed and I was paying out of pocket for what they couldn't cover so we're talking a couple thousand in services and about $1000 out of pocket. As my issue progressed, it became more and more difficult to get in touch her and to get medical advice from the office. For over a month, I tried to connect with Dr.Holly - I called the office directly for weeks, sent messages on their website - called into the smile generation service and left messages with them. "She'll call you back" is always the response that I get. I even spoke to the office manager so said she text her directly but she doesn't reach out. After months of investing in this office and spending money here, it came as a real surprise that I wasn't able to get the attention I needed. But, perhaps there was no longer a dollar sign over my head and so slowly realized I wouldn't be hearing from Dr.Holly any time soon. Eventually I realized I was never going to hear from her.. I was so discouraged after investing months in working with them but had to start all over with a new dentist. It was exhausting and frustrating to say the least. This is a great office if you have very basic or not ongoing needs....but don't expect above and beyond service or quality communication. if you're interested in building a long-term provider relationship that gets to know you, yours needs and is invested in your treatment solutions...I'd look elsewhere. read more

I will not be coming back. Be careful of the charges they will try to add on to your visits without explanation. They tried to charge me over $300 for a maintenance visit (I already had a deep cleaning 3 months ago here) and when I inquired, they removed some "laser" treatments to bring the total to $79. I already got negative feelings from my previous two visits and should've listened to my gut and found a different practice. Unfortunate since the hygienists are nice and do a good job, but the front office and billing is deceptive and unorganized. read more

Dr Peirle and Maria has always done a great job with my teeth, the whole office is top notch! I t's like a one stop shop for all my dental needs! I usually see Dr. Hinderberger and she is amazing! One thing that I really appreciate is that she remembers little things about me. So every time I come in, she asks me about whatever it is she recalls us speaking about the previous visit. It's the little things like that which make patients feel valued and want to return! Went in for my first appointment a few days ago. The care I received was fantastic. The staff is all great aside from the receptionist who also happens to be the manager, rude, unprofessional and just not a people person. She barely made eye contact with me, rushed me and only cared about getting paid. She's horrible. Everyone else in the office is so friendly and sweet I was shocked they would have someone like her greet patients. Why would you want her to be the face of your friendly office? read more

The dentist is probably my least favorite place on the face of the earth. I have had the worst experiences with dentists just being rough, pushy and using fear to coerce you into purchasing the most expensive stuff, but I have never experienced that here. I used to get the worst anxiety before going to the dentist but have not felt it at this office since day 1. Every person I have interacted with here has been professional, kind, and very efficient. My dentist is Dr. Holly and although I've only had the pleasure of meeting her once, she was so personable and nice! Justine is my hygienist and she is just the nicest person. I had to get a lot of shots in my mouth during one of my cleanings (a big fear of mine) and Justine was so reassuring and patient with me. Every visit with her is pleasant and she takes care not to be too rough with sensitive spots. I could not recommend this dentist more. I'm so glad I found them! read more
