My daughter ordered the bacon avocado turkey burger which she enjoyed as well! We ordered fries as well which were so large that we could not even finish them! The grand kids enjoyed their kid meals and they specially liked the frisbee the food was served on! I get that some food has to be prepped ahead of time but the mushrooms on my chicken sandwich were wayyy over sautéed and the chicken breast was pretty thin... The sweet potato fries were the best part of the meal... get those! One note of improvement: the unsweetened iced tea in the fountain machine is not good.. fresh brewed would be nice. Pricey food. Pricey ice cream. Ideal location. Cozy atmosphere. Not a place we frequent at all, but if you're near the river its a temptation. We got burgers and planned to get ice cream after but decided to go elsewhere after we ate. The selection is fine but the price just seemed ridiculous for what we wanted. Worth mentioned some options don't come in various sizes, so you're stuck with basically a large. All in all this place is nice once maybe twice a year for us, but not worth it considering other places minus the view offer more for less. read more

A must stop in the summer! Right on the water front or Niawanda park, it is perfect for a quick bite or sit on their roof top for a meal. I got an ice cream flight (strawberry, black raspberry, let's dough Buffalo, and graham canyon) and was not expecting the portions that they gave! This is a hot dog/burger place with some other sandwiches available, but the food is always good and the view is even better. Since summer decided to stay a little longer in Buffalo, we decided to come for our last foot long of the year with the fixings. My hubby opted for the chili burger. The amount of chili was almost the same size of his burger. And you can't come here without getting sweet potato fries - with honey and butter. It's a gooey mess but that's why you eat them with a knife and a fork. You can sit either inside or outside. Even on the inside you can see the river. This time of year we opted for the inside due to the bees going crazy with the smell of the sweet potato fries. They wouldn't leave us alone. But you can sit right by the side walk or for a better view of the river you can sit on top of the restaurant. That is a great view. So after a little walk, we decided to come back and share a chocolate sundae. Unfortunately late in the year many of the items are not available, but we were still able to have our ice cream and enjoy the rest of the day. read more

I used to come here a lot with my dad when I was a kid, he grew up in the city of Tonawanda and he worked nights, so during the day he take my brother and I to do fun stuff, and a trip to Niawanda Park and Mississippi Muds was always good. I recently brought my husband here, his first experience. The rooftop seating seemed new to me, and they have some newer menu items but overall, same great summertime food and friendly kids behind the counter. We got a little of everything including- Dixieland hot dog- topped with bacon and cheese, chicken Cesar sandwich, fish filet sandwich, fries, spicy sweet potato fries. Everything was really good, as always. I had never tried the chicken Cesar sandwich before and I'm now legit addicted. Grilled chicken, large amounts of leafy greens, Parmesan, bacon, Cesar dressing, on a large fresh bun (possibly Costanzo's?). To die for! The spicy sweet fries were not really my thing, but my husband loved them. Sweet potato fries with spicy sauce on top. I only have two things that held me back from 5 stars. 1. It's a little pricey. The chicken sandwich alone was over $9 and they don't come with a side. The spicy sweet fries were approximately $7, and that's just for a side. The food is always food, so you get what you pay for, but maybe including a side choice or a combo price for some of the sandwiches would be a little more cost effective. 2. No AC in this joint. Luckily we came on a breezy night and sat up at the rooftop tables, we could soak in the breeze coming off the river. This place is on Niagara Street, across from Niawanda Park, near the Niagara River. I came here last night with a friend. The hot dog/food ordering part is in the back. (I didn't realize that. I hadn't been here in years.) Unlike Taffy's, this place takes credit cards, which is great. Many people don't carry cash on them all the time. It's nice to pay with a credit card, during the pandemic too. (I wasn't aware that they take cards so I brought cash with me and paid that way. I'll probably pay with a card next time.) I ordered a Dixieland Hot Dog and some onion rings. The onion rings were great. Crisp and not too greasy. The Dixieland Hotdog was a Sahlens hoy dog with chili sauce and cheese on it. I had them add a pickle, ketchup, and mustard. I'll probably get a plain hot dog next time because the ingredients slid off easily. It was just over $10 for the two menu items. They're pretty pricy there. We were able to sit on the roof and that was nice. (A mask must be worn while in line and on the way to your table.) My friend and I came back later on for ice cream. (You order ice cream right in front of the building, right across from the entrance to Niawanda Park.) He had a cotton candy cone and he treated me to a Mudd Shake. I've been going to Mississippi Mudds since I was a wee little girl. I always remember it being such an exciting, long car ride from Cheektowaga to Tonawanda (long for a toddler, at least) to have dinner at a hip little shack, followed by a walk along the water. I'm 21 now, and not much has changed since then. Which, I'm honestly thankful for. In a world where childhood thrills no longer seem exciting, where we see our favorite buildings and restaurants close and become abandoned, it's so nice to have some place I remember from my childhood days still around, and still popular. But I'm getting a little sentimental here. This is your pretty average restaurant -- they've got burgers and hot dogs, foot longs, sweet potato fries, fish...everything you'd expect from a "seaside" type joint. I love the outdoor seating (two floors of it; there are tables on the roof!!), it's so great to come here on a nice day and sit and people watch! There's a playground for the kids, too. No pets allowed inside, but we brought our young puppy and had her sit under the table while we ate, and that wasn't a big deal. They've also got ice cream toward the front of the restaurant, on the outside; soft serve, sundaes, milkshakes. It's a good place to bring your family, for sure. read more

My children and I went here after walking along the river in Niawanda Park. I got my daughter the hot dog kids meal and a regular five-piece chicken tenders for my son and me. The young man that took my order and the lady doing the "dressing" of the to-go hot dogs was friendly. The food does not come with fries or a drink unless it is a kid's meal, so those have to be purchased separately, which was a bummer since my five-piece tenders were already $9 and fries were $3.50. The hot dog was so good my daughter ate it, which is touch and go these days. My tenders tasted like your typical frozen tenders out of a bag and tossed into the fryer, nothing special there. Mississippi muds seems to be a staple in Tonawanda, Especially in the summer months. So of course we had to stop by with some friends after walking around Niwanda park. The restaurant layout is great. There is an indoor seating area that is blocked off from the outside weather, which is really nice when is cold and rainy. There is also outside seating, both on an upper deck and lower deck. The design is pretty cool. They offer hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, and other typical grill food. The food was average, there really isn't anything special on the menu that would make you want to go here versus any other grill place. And the prices were insane! $8 for a double cheeseburger with frozen patties, $6 for a side order of French fries, $5 for a two scoop ice cream cone... That's pretty insane. This is one of those places that you go to because you are looking for a bite to eat while near the water, but even with that in mind, I struggle to give more than 3 stars. (P.S. I am giving this a four star review, because it's the average of 3 stars for food and price and 5 stars for location, sentimentality, and fully fenced kids play area. To start with the 3 stars- for two adults and a toddler we paid almost $40 for a meal that consisted of average food. A side of sweet potato fries was almost $6! SIX DOLLARS. I was very surprised when he told us the total for a couple of hot dogs drinks and fries. Regarding the 5 star part of this review. This place is a large part of many memories, as kids and growing up into adults, with grandparents, etc. so you can't really take away from that. It's location is also wonderful. Right across from the water! They also have an awesome little "tot lot" if you will, that is fully fenced in, complete with slides, thick bouncy mulch, picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. The whole nine. My son loved playing here and it felt great to chill and not worry about him running into the street or the parking lot. Genius idea that I loved. As it gets busy the area fills up with kids but we didn't have any problems. Parking here is limited in the lot but there is unending street parking. read more

I haven't been to Mississippi Mudds since I was very little and was excited to go back and try it out after all these years. We decided to go after a walk along the river. At first I couldn't decide between the bacon avocado burger or the chicken fingers but I quickly decided on the burger because it came with chipotle mayo. We also got the sweet potato fries and mac and cheese. Sadly I couldn't really taste the chipotle mayo on the burger; I don't think they put a lot on. The mac and cheese wasn't anything special; what was what you would expect. I liked the sweet potato fries but I would've added some salt. The service was ok. The person who was helping us with our burgers seemed distracted because her friends walked in and she was paying for attention to them than us. But what can you expect from a high school employee? The best part of the meal was the ice cream. We decided on the Peanut-Butterific sundae and it was amazing. It came with peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter sauce, Reese's pieces and Reese's peanut butter cups. It was amazing and huge! I would recommending splitting this if you decide to order a sundae. Mississippi Mudds is a staple of Tonawanda's summer scene. We stopped to get some chili-dogs and a soft drink. They also have an ice cream stand serving Perry's on the street side. I did have to remind them I ordered chili-dogs when I noticed they gave me plain hotdogs. But they were satisfying and hit the spot once I got them. The bayous of the deep, deep south have officially changed name, at least in the state of Mississippi. "Bayou" was apparently trademarked by Louisiana, which sued its neighbour MS for $69,696,969. In order to avoid having to pay a settlement, MS immediately changed the name of the Bayous to the "Muds". However the tourist bureau said this name was not exciting enough, so someone had the bright idea to add a "D" because "a double D is always exciting." And hence, those bayous are now, and forever, known as the Mississippi Mudds. The reason this place is named after them is that the owner actually worked for the MS tourist board, and the Mudds name change is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to her. Personal Experience: I've been here probably 15 times in my life mainly because of the view. I used to love the food, but honestly, it's just okay. However it's full of good looking people, some of the servers are nice, it'll hit the spot if you're starving for fast food and is better than chain fast food, and best of all, the view is amazing. I still enjoy coming here after all these years. Anyway, this place is a teenage-oriented place, with foods like Beef On Weck, burgers, hot dogs, fries, gravy, and of course, lots of ice cream. The ice cream is pretty good, the food is predictable but not bad, but what's really amazing about this place, and I mean really amazing, is the view. It's right on the shore road (River Road) with Grand Island across the water. It's absolutely stunning, especially in the evening on a hot day in the summer. Absolutely fantastic. Even if you're not into this type of "typical American" fare, or the teen crowd, you'll be into the view and the atmosphere. Located along the river and across from the park, the location is just perfect for a family day out. We spent countless weekends sitting at the benches having ice cream from Mississippi Mudds, and occasionally meals in the restaurant as well. They are closed for winter season, and reopen again when the weather is good. The hotdogs are amazing, and exploding fries are mad good. Mississipi Mudds is in a great location. I love that you can walk up to the window, get your ice cream sit down upstairs or downstairs and just enjoy the views. Having an ice cream parlour at a spot next to the water is also supremely ideal for hot days..ice cream and walking along the breezy water is super ideal for me, personally. Although I love the location, I have to say the ice cream really is not that impressive. I may just be used to Baskin robbins and other chains but the flavours I have tried here are always a little off to me. So far I have tried 6 or so flavours and can't really say that I have thoroughly enjoyed what I was having....but I keep returning because of the location. It may sound strange, but the sprinkles they use here are also not great. They are soft, and sort of melt ..and then the colours bleed into the ice cream resulting in even sweeter ice cream ... and it just is not pleasing whatsoever as it adds to the off-taste. My Chicken Caesar sandwich had romaine, creamy caesar dressing and bacon on a grilled chicken breast. It waa bursting with flavor. I couldn't believe how good it was . I find this place to be a tad expensive for what they serve. In fact, we only eat here when we have coupons. The food is fine; you'll find your basic grilled selections and some Buffalo favorites. The ice cream service is very slow. However, th ey serve Perry's custard which is very delicious and not found everywhere! I recently ordered a root beer float which was ok. The downfall was that it was prepared with a can of root beer as opposed to a fountain soda! And it was a small can of pop. Everyone knows that fountain sodas are fresher and much more delicious than a can. I could've made this at home. They serve no thrills Perry's ice cream so in not a fan of chain stuff but they do make some huge homemade waffle cones! They also offer your burger, hot dogs and chicken fare here as well if you'd like to grab a quick meal and jump on over to the park across the street.
