I only did that to keep the warranty intact. If you don't have a warranty to worry about you shouldn't think twice about going to Gilbert!

After a couple of weeks Breitling contacted me with bad news. The watch was not repairable. The parts were no longer available and they said it was a total loss. They did offer me $2,000 in credit if I let them keep the watch. Something told me to get the watch back. Which I did. A family member told me about the watch mechanic. I figured that I had nothing to lose. Within a week I was wearing my vintage watch again and it keeps perfect time. I will never buy another Breitling again. After I paid him nearly $200 when I picked it up, the watch wasn't fixed. I took it back a second time and he couldn't fix it. I eventually sent the watch back to Seiko and they replaced it. I was also suckered into allowing him work on a Longines quartz. Oh, I can fix it. The ran for about five months. He didn't fix it. I would never go back to him.

I took it to another place that was down the street from where I was staying (Jewelry Plus on general booth behind the new Bojangles being built) and the guy was kind enough to tell me it was the spring in the clasp, but when I asked him about having it fixed quickly, he told me he was 2 weeks behind on everything. When I said, okay, who do you recommend? He went off on a tangent about how he was the best and everyone brings everything to him, even other jewelers. And since he's backed up, everyone is..... I said okay. Left and then asked my friend to run me over to Choi's. Walked in, explained what I needed and how I would pay whatever to get it fixed, I didn't need a new spring, I just wanted it fixed The kid at the counter was super helpful. Looked at my chain. Mentioned how it was 14k. Then showed me 14k clasps, as well as 10k clasps if I wanted a cheaper option. Told him I wanted the 14k one, and the kind old man stopped what he was doing, and replaced the clasp in 15 minutes. They've been there for me for at least 30 years. They've been at Lynnhaven as long as I can remember riding a bike there. This is the best non-flashy very experienced jewelry store that everyone should bring their stuff to. Not like these other guys who think highly of themselves but don't have customer service skills.

When I walked in, I was greeted by two sweet dogs, a Frenchie and a lab, and Olivia (the human lol). I showed Olivia the necklace and explained that I wanted it permanently closed. She handled it so gently and let me know she needed to show it to the head jeweler to discuss pricing. About five minutes later, she came back with the necklace perfectly sealed. The work was flawless. No sloppy welding marks, no visible damage, and no difference in the bar at all. Just precision and care. Then she told me there would be no charge. I honestly had to rush out before I started crying in the middle of the store. Olivia, thank you. You have no idea how much your kindness meant to me today or how much comfort you gave me in helping preserve my mother's memory. I won't forget it. My sister and nephew have the same necklace, and I'll absolutely be recommending Madison Jewelers to them so they can have theirs permanently sealed as well.

I was upfront that I wanted to trade it in toward a new ring for my fiancée and even mentioned I had a 1 kg silver bar to bundle. They offered me $500 for the entire ring. When I pushed back (politely at first), they blamed the J color and some inclusions -- the same stone that was good enough for a $5,860 retail appraisal just a few years ago. $500 is not even close to fair market value for a certified 1.20ct natural diamond in a 14k two-tone setting. I walked away immediately. I understand businesses need margin, but this felt like a pure lowball tactic. If you're thinking of selling or trading jewelry here, be prepared to get insulted on value. The selection in the store looked decent, but after this experience I won't be back and can't recommend them for buying or selling.

I have an old radio shack frame from about 30 years ago that my son sent me a beautiful message from when he was 2 and the batteries finally died-- yes 30 years! But the problem was this old frame. To reset the diamond on my 1930s engagement rings isn't a job for everyone - the man who did the ring clearly knew his jewelry and I felt comfortable with him fixing the ring. To reset the diamond cost $25. The diamond was reset on the spot. The gold necklace/chain needed to be relinked and this had to be kept for a few weeks. To fix the small chain it cost $15. The links were extremely small so I was super impressed that they were even able to fix it. The customer service here is great - whether you're on the phone with them or face to face. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because my chain was kept a week longer than promised. In the future I will be fixing all of my jewelry here.
