Dr Mitchell gave me a mouthguard for bruxism, I went to her practice for 5 years and stopped in at the beginning of 2023. During this time, no one once checked my bite. When I moved, I switched dentists and was told I need Invisalign because I have an open bite from that mouthguard not being fitted properly. Open bites make bruxism even worse and after looking through old photos from before I saw Mitchell, I could see that yes I did have an open bite and did not before, and my facial appearance had changed as a result of the open bite. So I had to spend $4k I otherwise would not have needed because of seeing Dr Mitchell. Other things to note- 1. She was always rushing with her patients after covid. not sure if she overbooks or if it was bc of her constant turnover, but the last few times I saw her, she was hurriedly doing my Botox and I'd rather see someone who will take the time needed for that. 2. After Covid, I kept being assigned a temporary hygienist who because her turnover problem. This temp hygienist only did ultrasonic scaling and no manual cleaning, and hygienists are supposed to use a combination since manual cleaning can reach smaller pockets that ultrasonic cleaning cannot. 3. Their incompetent front desk was constantly messing up my billing. They billed my old insurance twice and sent me an invoice for an $75 bill when hello that should be covered. Also my insurance covers 3 dental cleanings and they never even checked for that, I found out when I switched dentists. 4. Her husband creepily followed me to the front desk and was standing there as if he was guarding the door after I got Botox to ensure i paid for it, as if I was going to run out or something? Dr Mitchell and her staff are very talented and caring. I have had a wonderful experience so far with my veneers.

I went to this dentist for over three years. On one tooth they replaced a crown, but left a bacterial infection underneath. It spread. I had to have two revision root canals in which they had to dig out the infected flesh. Now I have a hollow area in my jawbone about a cm in diameter. Hopefully it will eventually heal, but it seems to still get infected. On another tooth, I asked them to repair a veneer. Next thing I knew, they were drilling my tooth away to put on a crown. Absolutely awful. Stay away from this dentist. read more

A friend recommended me to the Mitchell Dental Spa. Sorry for the long review, but I wanted to provide a balanced perspective. Pros: The staff is very friendly, and helpful--they tried to get me in a few weeks earlier than my appointment when something opened up. They were very genuine. The facilities are wonderful, what you would expect from a place that is a dental spa. The nice flat screen TVs, etc. They have beverages for you -- though I was surprised that they had some of those sugary energy drinks that are supposed to be "corrosive" to your teeth...kinda strange to be offered one right after a cleaning. In-Beteween: Dr. Mitchell, was pretty nice for the most part and engaging...but there was something about her that wasn't right....(I figured what it was...below) I was getting some cavities filled, and noticed that the assistant/hygenist put the topical gel (novacaine?) on one side of my mouth only, but the dentist injected me on the other side too (I needed fillings on both). I can tolerate pain pretty well, so it wasn't too bad, but I think I one of them realized that the gel put on the side that they injected me on. Cons: The creepy office manager Jeff (is that his name?) made me feel uncomfortable. It took Dr. Mitchell more than 2x longer for the same procedure at my other dentist. Some variance can be expected but this was much more. Now I understand why they have TVs in there, b/c you're gonna be in there for a while. However, the cleanings with the hygienist were about the same time at both places. I have TMJ, and its pretty clear that I do, however, I spent about 45 min-1 hour with a fancy piece of equipment (that was malfunctioning) so they could tell me I have TMJ and will need a night guard. Dr. Mitchell, touted how even though she offers the bells and whistles to her clients, that her prices are average in comparison to other dentists in the area. THIS IS A BLATANT LIE. Her prices are by far, the HIGHEST in the area (call and compare). I learned this the hard way, when my insurance wouldn't cover the excess charges, and I never had a problem with that before (even the exam was much more). I had sat down with Jeff and he assured my that "oh, we've worked with your plan before" you should expect to pay about XX out of pocket, for these procedures. I ended up spending more than double (try $900). Also, they made me pay the bill before I left, not like other places where they contact your insurance and sort it all out on their own. Thanks to Yelp, I found another great dentist in the loop and I had an exam, xrays, cleaning and same procedure (including # and type of fillings) his charge was about $900 compared to her $1900 (which translates to less than $300 out of pocket vs $900)! Yup you read right! Never got a massage, which I asked for when they offered me their spa services...got jipped and ended up with a lip masque instead In summary, if you want lake views, go to navy pier...if you want to be pampered, go to a spa...if you want a great dentist (in the end isn't that what we're really there for?)...find someone else on Yelp (I did!) But if you want to be overcharged for technically mediocre services...Dr. Mitchell will be great for you. read more

Upon my first visit, Dr Mitchell gave me an overall assessment and mapped out a plan to get my dental health and hygiene on the right track. They made sure I was comfortable with the financial commitments along the way. She also has great medical insight and education that is communicated in a way that isn't off-putting or lecturing. I'm writing a review after not having been here for about 5 years--because of a strange reason. My insurance changed because of jobs, that's the main reason I stopped going. This place is ultra-luxurious, so not probably for someone looking to save money. It's a "spa," they offer you a water or juice when you arrive and a backrub after your dental work! The only issue I had was that I needed a crown and I should have asked upfront my part of the cost. It was $800. But I wish I'd been told. Otherwise, everything was perfect I'd had a lot of dental work that needed to be done and they did it all. I also got a Zoom whitening which had fantastic results and has STILL lasted. But here's why I'm writing! My new dentist, after doing my Xrays, asked who did my crowns and previous extensive work. I told him. He said it was the BEST work, procedurally, he'd ever seen! There were a lot of complicated things they had to be done and he said it was VERY hard for a dentist to get all that right. His description: "Perfection." My visits to Dr. Mitchell's office have been great. The dentist office is like something I've never seen back home in Ohio. The office is actually a combination of dentist office/spa. Sound crazy? I had no idea that something like that existed. I was also surprised to learn that dental spas are a growing trend nationwide (I included an article above that I was glad to take part in discussing dental spas and, more specifically, Dr. Mitchell's location). Your visit comes complete with a complimentary juice/champagne bar, snacks, television, a great view, and a soothing environment to complement it all. During a painful gum procedure, I was able to watch my afternoon news, sit in a massaging chair (HEAVEN!), and enjoy my nice view of Lake Michigan. The staff makes sure to take great care of you, and they are very personable. Each time I walk into the office, everyone knows my name. The above things make an office visit that many people fear into a much more pleasant experience. I highly recommend her as a dentist, and the overall experience as something worth checking out. I was referred to Dr. Mitchell about 3 years ago by a co-worker and my first appointments were in the old office, which still included a nice at-chair-cable-tv feed so you can watch whatever you like while getting drilled. The service and experience was great then and the new location only enhances everything. Better views. More soothing overall environment. I got lucky. It had been about 8 years since I had been to the dentist. I was anxious, maybe a little afraid. Dr. Mitchell's dental spa is a very classy institution. With a view of Lake Michigan and Michigan Ave, I almost forget that I usually hate the dentist office. Fluoride is super gross, but I can handle it since I get champagne afterwards - yay! The staff is extremely friendly, quick and professional. Dr. Mitchell is really nice and REALLY knows her stuff. She takes pictures and displays them on the screen so you can see exactly what she is talking about AS she is discussing it. She identified I have bad acid reflux because of the lack of enamel on the back of my teeth, which could also be why I have a hard time sleeping. This could fix a lot of my issues. Who knew cleaning your teeth once a year could be so helpful! The only thing I didn't expect were the super close up pictures of my face and smile, and the recommendation that I could look a lot better with veneers. And then for an hour and a half we walked through pictures, and two glasses of champagne later I was semi freaked out that I needed to spend $15,000 to fix my smile. It was just a lot to handle in such a short period of time. While a visit to another dentist may make for a harrowing experience, it's never the case here. I can always count on seeing a friendly faces and look forward to catching up with everybody. The reviews here are spot on. This place is run by dr Mitchell, the friendliest dentist you will ever meet, and her husband Jeff who manages the office. When you walk in you are offered ten different kinds of drinks. Then dr Mitchell did the cleaning herself and it was the most thorough exam and cleaning I've had in a long time. They offer you headphones and a tv ten inches from your face to make the cleaning less stressful. After, I was given a hot towel and choice of spa treatment. Wow. The extras at this office are great but the best part really is dr. Mitchell and the focus on customer service and care...I've never experienced anything like it in medicine. I've been a patient of Dr. Mitchell for a long time. She has always provided professional service and, as I am an out-of-town patient, her staff has been more than accommodating in squeezing me into their schedule when I come to Chicago, even at a last minute notice! Even though I could find a dentist in my town, I rather continue to fly over and see Dr. Mitchell and her lovely staff. Since the move to the Water Tower location, it has been a 200% improvement from the last location... although the last location was good, the amenities at water tower are just fab! When you walk in, you are welcome with loads of different drinks, from juices to champagne. Also protein bars are in the counter for you to take. Plenty of magazines to read, if you have any sit time, as the staff is always ready for you when you walk in. Also a big tv plays CNN in the background. In the rooms, the dentist chairs are "massage" chairs so this option is available and the staff asks you if you would like it on or off. In addition, they have a TV on every chair with noise reduction headsets. So, while you are getting your routine work done, there is over 200 channels of TV for you to choose from. It makes the time go by very fast and somehow enjoyable. The office has their own private bathroom, which is nice not having to walk all the way back to use the one down the hallway. And the bathroom has cloth towels (not paper ones) and it feels more like a dressing room than a bathroom. Very chik! Last time I was here, I was given a complimentary back massage prior to my departure... aaahhh..... I was skipping in air.... who knew that a visit to the dentist could be so enjoyable. I went here to use my teeth whitening certificate and my first teeth whitening experience so was a little hesistant since I was afraid it was going to really hurt with the sensitivity. They do mail you some special toothpaste to use to help decrease the sensitivity issue you may experience later. The office is really nice just like the staff! So yes, it's not the most comfortable when you have to sit there with your mouth stretched open while your teeth are exposed to the 'whitening rays', but I got to watch tv and lay back and relax. The service technician/dental assistant (not sure the correct term??) was very friendly and when you are sitting there unable to talk, they give you a squeaky toy to get someone's attention. Thought this was kind of funny, but hey , it works! If you need something, you squeak, they come over & you write on your dry erase board what you need! Even though I live in the suburbs and I have many other dentist options near where I live - seeing Dr. Mitchell for my dentistry care is one hundred percent the right call. I'd follow her if she moved her practice anywhere! I would. Her staff are wonderful, friendly, knowledgably, and above all, caring. I went in today for my scheduled six month prophylaxis, and with perfect timing on my part - thanks to that darn Gummy Bear last Friday - I had Margaret re-bond a crown. It's true - the staff does come off as very friendly; I definitely appreciate the effort they go to to make sure that each interaction is extremely pleasant (albeit, almost unnaturally so). What is less pleasant is that they are pretty aggressive with their recommendations of treatments - e.g., re-doing a filling now because there's a "chance' of it coming off eventually. I eventually switched dentists because I had a poor experience with one of their hygienist, who scraped my teeth like they were made of steel when I had my cleaning. Some of the glowing reviews here I imagine are exactly because they're loyal customers and feel like they are treated well for being so (they even give you some sort of gift if you recommend enough people to the place). But it was all a bit slimy for me to take in the long term. read more

Seeing as how I ended up booking an appointment here due to some reviews on Yelp, I thought I should add my own. Unsurprisingly, the rave reviews held true with my own experience. Like Damian, I had a feeling of, "Toto, we aren't in small town Illinois anymore..." From start to finish, this is an elite dental spa, not even remotely like any place I've been to before. Ultra-modern, clean, sleek, open design. Free beverages (including mini-bottles of champagne, if I'm not mistaken) for you to sip while you wait on the swanky leather sofas. Soaring views of the lake and the pier from their suite in Water Tower Place. Personal flat screen TVs with a slew of channels. Crazy nice staff. Cute interns. The most thorough care I've received (I admittedly had some issues, and they addressed them completely, without recommending unneccessary things or "tsk"ing at me). And oh yes, free 10-minute massage with your cleaning (and a real 20 minute or so massage if your appointment is running late!). Needless to say, this place is beyond fantastic. I've told many people that I "went to the dentist, and, oh yeah, got a free massage," and instantly, I become the object of their jealousy. Everyone seems to think there's a catch, but nope, free massage, covered by my insurance. The only downside is that prices a bit higher than other places I've been, but for all the fringe, I'd gladly pay a bit more. read more

Dr. Mitchell has the most personable, genuine, chairside manner of any dentist I've ever known (and I'm friends with a lot of dentists). I've been seeing her for about 4 years now. Even with my recent relocation to KC, I still see her when I fly home for visits. She is VERY knowledgeable, stays up to date on all new procedures and techniques, and she has state-of-the-art equipment. As if that weren't enough, her new location in Water Tower Place is AMAZING!!! Her office is literally a spa! Free 10-min massages, facials, lip treatments, etc. with a regular appt for cleanings, and if you get cosmetic procedures you get a free full body massage (yes from a trained massage therapist). The hygenists are friendly (almost too friendly... and one is just plain adorable), there are TV screens so you can watch TV while your teeth are getting scraped. Is it possible to love your dentist? YES! I don't know anyone who doesn't have at least a little dentist anxiety, but at Mitchell Dental Spa, they make you very comfortable and you feel relaxed knowing you are getting the best possible dental treatment available. They give you a blanket, massage chair and you can watch TV with headphones while they work on your teeth. Plus they are very sensitive to ensuring you are well-rinsed and don't have your mouth open an inordinate amount of time. They utilize the latest in dental technology - they even have a machine that tells them the exact level of decay and a tooth camera so you can see what they see, and better manage your care together. But Dr. Mitchell and her team (Lauren is awesome!) don't just use technology to check things out, they have decades of experience they bring to the practice and that acute knowledge is evident. I was pleased that at the end of my appointment, Dr. Mitchell explained that I could use some sealants. She said they weren't urgent, but would help slow future issues. Because I don't currently have dental insurance, they were very understanding that I decided to wait a few months to move forward with this procedure. I didn't feel any pressure at all, and appreciated the honest assessment that it wasn't urgent, but would help down the road in avoiding worse - and more expensive - problems. Though I am moving out of the state soon, I am seriously thinking about scheduling an appointment here when I am back in town for a visit, even though finding a local dentist might be more convenient. And the best part - Didi! Didi is a trained massage and skin therapist. She'll give you a complimentary mini-facial, massage or lip hydration treatment when you go. I came in with a chipped tooth when my regular dentist could not schedule me in, and was very anxious regarding my dental procedure, but Dr. Mitchell was extremely kind, compassionate, and exceptionally gentle during my filling. The environment was relaxing and put me at ease. I received a bill after my dental insurance (she is out of network with my PPO dental plan) would not cover the amount above their customary fee schedule, but the office manager was able to write off a portion off the bill if I became a regular patient.
