I have been going to Shoreline Dental since moving to Chicago almost 3 years ago. Dr. Patel is very nice and does a great job with calming me down when getting a cavity. My favorite part about coming here is Mary Beth! I always request her to do my teeth cleaning as she is very efficient but also very friendly and funny! The office is in a great location off magnificent mile 9 stories up so when looking outiside the big windows you have a nice view of the city. I've been going to Shoreline Dental and Mollie Rojas for over 2 years now, and everything was fine up until today. I had a standard cleaning and x-ray check up, and afterwards, Mrs. Rojas checked my x-rays and mentioned that there appears to be potential cavities based on the x-rays. As a preventative measure, she recommended Silver Diamine Fluoride. I never heard of this, and I asked her if there were any side effects. She said it was safe and it's often applied to children (she also added that it was safe in that she applies it to her own son). I took Mrs. Rojas word and she made the first of two applications. I came home and noticed on the bottom of my lip a black mark. After googling Silver Fluoride side effects, one is that it can turn your teeth black and can also blacken the skin. I called up Mrs. Rojas, and asked her why she didn't mention this side effect, especially when I asked her about potential side effects. She said she didn't remember that I asked the question, and that the side effect of blackening teeth/skin is very rare. I was astonished that she said she didn't recall me asking, and even more astonished that she knew of the side effect. The Silver Fluoride requires two applications. I told her that I do not want to be charged and I'm not taking the second application. She said that the side effect is no reason for her not charging me, and that the benefits of preventive cavity treatment outweigh the potential side effects of blackened teeth/skin. This answer from Mrs. Rojas is alarming. Her judgment as a health care professional is off and her ethics are questionable . I can not trust Mrs. Rojas after this experience, and I'm hoping this side effect is not permanent. read more

Recently started going here after they kindly got me in after an urgent dental incident. I don't normally leave reviews but I feel they deserve one because this place is great! I have had a few visits since then and each time every staff member has been kind and knowledgable. Ever since I was referred to Dr. Nellis by Dr. Levine that periodontal associates I have been extremely pleased. We talked at length before proceeding about his procedures and how the office worked. Subsequent to my consultation he took an extremely accurate and immediately available set of x-rays and explained to me what I was looking at and what his suggestions were for treatment. This morning I, Minh, and my wife Thi came here for a dental cleaning and we were very pleased with the experience. The staff from the front desk people to the dental assistant to the hygienist were wonderful. I want to stress that being anxious at the dentist is as horrible as it gets, it makes me feel overwhelmed, hot and like I'm about to cry. However, I had the exact opposite experience at Shoreline Dental this afternoon. I had a paranoid dental emergency and the team at Shoreline couldn't have been nicer and more courteous. After a quick Google Search, I found Shoreline and their same day appointments. I made an appointment, anxiously, and was given patience, kindness and empathy as I told them that I was a bit anxious around dentists. Upon stepping into the office, it was clean, it didn't smell like that sanitary health smell that freaks us anxious people out and most importantly, I was again, treated with kindness and compassion. Prior to looking at my teeth, the dentist and assistant told me what they were going to do, what it would feel like and why, which is huge for me. As soon as I sat down, my anxieties were gone and I felt really at home. I will absolutely be going back to Shoreline after an incredible experience. My wife was hounding me for months to go see her dentist and after a disappointing experience with the one closest to my job, I decided to make the trip to Streeterville. While it may seem like damning with faint praise, this was one of the best experiences I've had at the dentist. Everyone, from the receptionists, to Mary Beth the hygienist, to the assistant, to Dr. Nealis himself, was very friendly and communicative. I saw my teeth (and cavities, ugh) on the big screen and learned a lot about tooth decay, the different kinds of fillings, and how to stave off future periodontal disease. A former lecturer at Loyola, Dr. Nealis clearly enjoys relating the science of dentistry to his patients and, refreshingly, doesn't dumb it down. The only way it could have been better was if I didn't have to go back in a couple weeks to get drilled, but that's my fault, of course! read more

I still cannot believe the experience that I had yesterday with Dr. Nealis. It was incredible! It was painless! It was, dare I say, the most pleasant trip I have ever had to the dentist! I had a filling in my back molar (a big filling at that) that was about fifteen years old, and Dr. Nealis encouraged me to have it replaced because it was pretty ancient. I was not exactly excited to do this, because I pictured lots of drilling and a nice big shot of novocaine and days of soreness to follow. However, Dr. Nealis has recently acquired some kind of amazing laser machine that allows that process to happen without any drilling or shots or anything. I had this massive old filling removed and replaced within minutes, and I walked out the door feeling like nothing happened. Totally painless! Thank you sooooooooo much!!! read more

I've always been scared of going to the dentist. I hadn't been for over 10 years because I was so terrified. I couldn't sleep the night before my first appointment with Dr. Nealis. I had sweaty palms fidgeted nervously as I filled out the paperwork before my first visit. That, honestly, will probably be the last time that I am nervous about going to the dentist. The ladies at the front desk are friendly, welcoming and professional. The hygienist MaryBeth brought me in for my first cleaning in far too long. I was embarrassed about how long it had been, but she calmed my nerves and had me laughing away any previous concerns I'd had. She did a fantastic job. My teeth looked better than they had in a good long time, and, more importantly, I felt good about them. I've been back for multiple much-needed procedures, and I can not say enough good about the level of craft, skill and care that Dr. Nealis applies to his practice. He explains his work clearly, and executes it skillfully and painlessly. If you are on the fence about going to the dentist because you are afraid of dentists, then I can not recommend Dr. Nealis enough. I would give more stars if I could. read more

I honestly can't recommend Shoreline Dental enough. In addition to my regular cleanings, I've had several other treatments - including crowns and zoom teeth whitening. I've been a patient for over 10 years. It seems odd to look forward to visiting the dentist - but it is always a pleasure to visit Dr. Rojas and her team. In a way - [spoiler - cheesy cliché] they really have become like family. The entire staff has such a great attitude with a perfect balance of humor and professionalism - it's a great way to start the day. Tasha and Anel are so engaging, friendly and helpful. Marybeth is an amazing dental hygienist who is charismatic and hilarious. Clearly she loves her job. The entire staff in general are just really special - and Dr. Rojas really has a way of putting people at ease. She's a great dentist with a very kind and engaging manner. You never feel rushed or like you are being upsold on any treatments. It also goes without saying that from a medical and technology standpoint, they're always on the leading-edge side of things. I came to Dr. Nealis on the recommendation of a friend after a traumatic experience with another dentist by my home. After a very thorough exam, Dr. Nealis gave me an honest opinion about what I needed to have done and what could wait. I needed a crown on one of my front teeth and I was completely dreading it, as I have seen some really awful crowns. After answering several of my questions and showing me lots of before and after photos, Dr. Nealis convinced me that he would make my, what I now affectionately refer to as my "toof", look great. I was still hesitant, but now that I have had it done, even my closest friends and family can't tell which one it is. I love it when my family and friends ask, "Now which one is it again?"
