I was trying to shop on their website and I had 3 items in my cart I was super happy a discount had been applied to all the items right as I was checking out the discount disappeared I contacted support and all they said was they were fixing the discount and when it went back up my items would no longer be discounted. What a fun little shop! A wonderful mix of vintage clothing and new pieces and accessories. It's more than easy to put together a really rockin' outfit here, complete with jewelry, for a fairly decent price. The benefit of going to vintage shops like these is that they do pull together the best pieces from thrift shops so you can pop in and find great stuff without having to scour the racks for hours to find a gem. Although what you make up for in timesaving you do lose in price, as most of these shops will run you more than your average goodwill. Luckily, Mix seems to be pretty reasonably priced, both on their vintage pieces as well as their new inventory. They also has a nice selection of furniture and home decor, again both used and new. Really cute stuff. Today when I popped in they were starting to put out their Christmas inventory. They've got beautiful sparkly trees in a myriad of vibrant colors, lots of those fancy cardboard holiday houses coated in glitter, and some lovely ornaments. A great place to stock up on some vintage and new holiday decorations should you be in the market for the stuff. Finally, the staff is REALLY nice. Very friendly and helpful. I didn't feel awkward walking around there in the slightest. Sometimes the staff in shops like this will watch you like a hawk but these folks were pretty chill which made me feel at ease. Story time. On Black Friday 2012, I decided I would do a decent thing and only patronize local businesses that day, so as to support them vs. big box stores (plus I had to work on Small Business Saturday, so I figured I'd bump it up a day early). Being located not far from downtown Ypsi at the time, I started walking around looking at various shops. And here it was - Mix. I could see vintage clothes and what appeared to be small tchotchkes from the window, so I figured I'd go inside and check it out as I was in the market for Christmas gifts. I walked in to see two roughly Baby-Boomer-aged white women at the counter, one on each side, having an animated conversation. They both looked directly at me for a few seconds, but didn't stop their conversation to greet me or acknowledge me in any other way. "Okay," I thought, "rude staff; how disappointing. Oh well. I'll see if they have anything decent for stocking stuffers or something, then get right out." I stopped by the door to examine a display from a local soapmaker when I abruptly realized I could hear the entirety of their conversation as they were making NO effort whatsoever to conceal it, and it was not pretty. "The only reason Obama got voted into office a second time is because people felt sorry for him," the woman behind the counter grumbled. Her counterpart nodded sagely. "It's reverse racism against white people. The presidential office is no place for affirmative action." My eyes widened. She continued her spiel. And continued. And continued. I have never heard such thinly veiled (or open) racist diatribe in a place of retail before, to be frank. By this point, I had had enough, but I didn't want it to be obvious so I made my way around the shop once (overpriced vintage clothing, limited sizing, poor organization of displays) and got straight out of there without looking back. Mind you, I have heard plenty of conservative and/or bigoted chatter before among people of that age & ethnicity. I may be of more progressive leanings myself, but people are entitled to their own opinion for the most part even if I think it's about as intelligent and well-thought-out as trying to light a match underwater. I have, however, NEVER heard a shopowner openly carry on like that, and it frankly offends the hell out of me NOT ONLY that she would even still think that way in 2012, but also that she would think that I, as another white woman, would be complicit in her racism; why else would she not censor herself in any way unless she thought that I, as a white person, clearly agreed with her? Or that my whiteness helped her retain a safe space to spew her hatred without suspected fear of judgment? Either way, not okay, and ESPECIALLY not okay at a place of business. I refuse to patronize hateful people, and I suggest you all do the same as well. read more

Taking a star or three off for just plain bad customer service at the Ypsi store the next day or two later to make exchanges. Two ladies there post- art fair made it clear they were not happy that I was coming in about 15 minutes to close. They made it pretty obvious in multiple ways. My friend actually brought it up once we left (I was going to stay on a positive note after having a great chat with the owner, a fellow ex DPS Wounded Warrior) and I was actually glad to know that my friend noticed. She was actually more mad than I was!! Seriously- the women that work at these stores need to get over themselves and learn to treat customers correctly. I'm all for ladies with strong personalities and quirkiness and what-not, but I just can't in good conscience- continue to financially support stores that lack basic etiquette and niceness....I work Waaayyy too hard for my money to share it with Bi-otches with attitude.... #Truth. read more

The selection of women's clothes here is really amazing - beautiful, eclectic - really special. I really loved an embroidered jacket. Maybe I should take off a star for not having as much for men to wear but what the heck... The artwork, crafts, and antiques are charming and unique. We ran out of time this visit but will be back. I want to get on the schedule for the once a month chamber vocal concerts. How cool is that? read more

Loved this store- great stuff, beautifully presented, warm owners who really care about their community. They have a beautiful little theatre space in the back and host readings! I seriously had one of my best shopping experiences ever - ended up buying 2/3 of what I brought in to try on- all "previously loved" and in great shape. They have good taste in what they sell and a sale rack with some really good surprises! You can put together a really fun, current look for a fraction of what you would pay at a retail store, and higher score-per-hour rate than the vintage stores I have been to before. I don't live in the area but will make it a point to visit when I am in town seeing family! read more

We happened upon downtown Ypsi around 6 pm on a Friday night, after driving most of the day from Kentucky. Thinking things would be closing up, we were happily surprised to see things staying open, and open even longer because of a music festival. I loved what I saw in the store windows of Mix and was very excited to see what ELSE was inside. Lots of pretties, maybe clothing not necessarily my taste (artsy, older maybe?) but displayed beautifully as were the displays of bath products and unique vintage household items,and not badly priced, either. The only thing that was a bit of a downer is that the woman at the desk never greeted me. At all. She enthusiastically greeted EVERYONE else that came after me (some even got hugs, so I'm assuming there's a history there...) but still, not even a hello...or a "goodbye, thanks for stopping in.." when I decided to leave. I had tried on a hat that I really liked and thought would be great for our upcoming trip to the beach and the price was REALLY right because of the end of the season, but I put it back because, well, I didn't feel welcome. Later, after a couple of Strawberry Blonds at the Red Rock, and dancing to the little band, I was feeling a little more loose, so I went back inside. There was another, friendlier lady who greeted me, and so, I bought the hat and love it. For an out of towner, first impressions are really key--and because we'd felt VERY welcomed in all the other stores, this was a little bit of a bummer. But, when in Ypsi again, I'll stop back in and hope for the other gal :) read more

Unique clothing, accessories and housewares. Sometimes they are severely lacking in plus sizes. The jewelry is really nice. It's definately worth a stop in at least to look. They have clothes you won't find anywhere else in Michigan. read more

I went to the store in Ypsilanti and loved it. I have been back many times. I only sometimes make a purchase, not due to not wanting anything, but this store is not cheap. That is also one of the best things about it. When I do buy something it is high quality, unique and lasting. The staff are happy to point out the less expensive items when asked and do not make feel bad for needing to ask that. read more

I love mix, I've shopped here about four times and have always found something to purchase. I am a 20-something and I think this store offers many beautiful items for someone my age. I bought some earrings, a present for my friend and she loved it. I've also bought a vintage casserole, ash tray, and some cute wedges. Mix is a locally owned store that sells new and used items. They have a great collection of kid stuff. The adult clothes are a bit old fashion and Midwestern for my taste, but I was able to culled a pair of fabulous white leather gloves from the copious amount of stuff in the store. Mostly, I appreciate the fact that Mix brought the building out of condemnation and gave not only the building another life but also the various inventory in the store a second chance. read more

Mix is a wonderful, spirited, eclectic shop with a totally unique blend of very popular and brands of new clothing (Comfy, Match Point, Chalet, LA Fixun) and used clothing, books, and other items. This is all within a large, light-filled historic space that happens to include an active theater. The owners and staff are terrific and friendly people; as I was driving there, clueless as I am, I called them to make sure I wasn't lost and they basically "held my hand" over the phone and then greeted me like a family member when I finally arrived. They also were very accommodating. I had been hearing great stories about this place for months and my only regret is that I had not visited them earlier. It will now be a regular destination for me, as much for the clothes as for the friendly company! read more

The clothes are a bit older than me(being college aged and all) but this is a great store run by the best people. I don't know what that 1 star review was thinking but the women who work here are the exact opposite of racist and even if they were would NEVER bring it into the store. Also they very much believe in greeting you with a warm smile and caring attitude and are very attentive. I reccomend everyone check it out because they are great. read more
