When we were seated, the waiter came out after 10 mins and told us that we had to spend $100 minimum per table and $80/hour if we wanted karaoke (which we were absolutely willing to do). HOWEVER, instead of seating us as a group at one table (which was available since there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant), they slid together 2 tables and now said our minimum was $200 and $80/hour for karaoke. BY THE WAY, "$80/HOUR KARAOKE" only includes ONE SONG PER PERSON, and you cannot give your turn to another person if you do not want to sing. They then told us if you want to sing ANOTHER song, you will be charged an additional $80. Though the staff were respectful, these instructions came directly from the owner. We would have spent way more than the limit, but the treatment was extremely disrespectful. We did not appreciate being treated like this, especially in a city like Wichita. If you're heading north on Penstemon St after turning onto E 29th St and you pass the AMC, turn around because you've gone too far. The place is a white, house-like building. Inside, it's spacious with private booths, tables, and a bar in the center. You order your food through a kiosk at your table. The Korean fried chicken is a must-try--you get 10 huge pieces along with sweet potato fries. It's definitely a dish to share or save for leftovers. The drinks were delicious, and so was the sushi we ordered. If you're looking for a movie date night, this is the spot--my wife and I watched *Twisters* right next door at the AMC afterwards. I finally had the chance to try Miya Izakaya after it opened in August. The food was well seasoned and flavorful. I know many friends said it was salty when it first opened; sounds like they were receptive to the feedback and adjusted their recipes. The food did come out fast, but the chicken wasn't piping hot. Which leads me believe that it's not cooked to order. Since the chicken wasn't freshly out the fryer, it didn't have that double fried super crispy crunch that Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) typically has. Of course all KFC places aren't the same, maybe this is their version of it and that's completely fine. The jalapeño and soy flavors were difficult to distinguish. They offer a variety of sauces/flavors. Their galbi flavor looks delicious and hoping to try that next time. The mochi donuts that replaced the fries were yummy! I'd order just that and be satisfied. Light and fluffy rolled in sugar. I liked the slaw that was paired with it to have a different flavor profile. We had 2 sushi rolls beautifully presented. The fish cuts were thick and proportioned to the size of the roll. Flavor was good, nothing too special. Our server was timid and spoke softly. He brought out soy sauce and little bit of ginger and wasabi. We asked for more and each time was brought back the same tiny tiny portion. I'd like to try it again and ask for the chicken to be freshly cooked, which I think would change a lot for me. Would be great to have a bone bag or plate. Prices were reasonable. I live literally 50 feet from this place, and I rather eat beefaroni for dinner. With this being so close , we had EXTREMELY high hopes. It was clear that a lot of effort went into refurbishing the building and its interior, but that's about where the effort seems to have stopped. Our first trip to this place was actually pretty good! (1 1/2 years ago when they opened). They had loads of things on the menu that they were still trying to slim down. We got some yummy beef skewers and French fries. No complaints. Every subsequent trip has been plagued by mediocrity. They don't take their own pictures for the menu, so you really had NO IDEA what you're ordering, other than the name. Like seriously, everything we ordered looked absolutely nothing like the pictures, which was a HUGE disappointment. Even our mixed drink was completely different looking than advertised. Flavors were bland, presentation was a bit sloppy, and none of the fish was fresh. Our fresh salmon actually turned out to be AGED.... What??? This place is so inconsistent that I don't understand how they have any business, because my wife and I sure don't recommend them to anyone that asks... We stumbled on this place while in Wichita for the weekend. From the outside, you might think it's a vacant building because we almost left. But when we saw someone went inside, we decided to check it out. I'm so glad we did! The place is clean with nice minimalist decorations, service is efficient with the ordering technology they use, and of course!! The food is delish!!! We tried the deep fried oyster sushi, gangster roll (I think) and Korean combo chicken. All of the food were very good and trying Korean chicken from other place, this place beat them by far with the taste! Excellent service and absolutely delicious rolls. Came here on a Monday afternoon as a group of three. We each got a roll or two and a couple appetizers and dessert to try and share. We loved everything. They had some unique rolls with ingredients I've not really seen before. The staff was friendly and helpful. The owner really made sure we had excellent service. Such a nice guy! Consistency is an issue. I really loved everything I got the first time but it was all kinda gross the second time... I did get the Unagi this visit and it was amazing! Worrying because it may not be next time... the tuna maki was a little fishy but edible and simple. The Zuke salmon looked WAY different and just like normal salmon with a huge side of silver skin. Wow, had such high hopes for this place. LOVE the ordering system and the high wall booths. DON'T LOVE the service, the inconsistency of food, and the fact that they are usually dead, which makes me question how fresh the food is. Restaurants like this are a mystery to me - they have the potential to be a massive success, and they offer mediocre or bad service which taints the whole experience. I recently moved back to Wichita, KS and have been on the hunt for the best sushi in town. This place may be it! I'm a simple guy, so I don't go for the crazy/creative specialty rolls. I like nigiri and simple rolls like spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, etc. This place does the simple stuff well. The prices aren't bad at all for nigiri and sashimi. We came with a group of 5 and all got full and didn't break the bank. During our most recent visit, we decided to try their Korean Fried Chicken. We ordered the Jalapeno Garlic Soy Chicken. It's not the best KFC I've ever had, but it's solid. It was little on the saltier side, but it was so crispy and juicy. I'd probably order it again but try a different flavor next time. From the house marinated soy sauce to the freshest Sashimi I've eaten in ICT, this place will be my go to sushi spot from now on. We've been twice in the last month. The Korean fried chicken is yummy. The soy sauce chicken is deceiving with a name like that, it is pretty sweet. Tastes almost like there's a syrup on it. Yummy nonetheless. The fries and coleslaw that come on the side make this a pretty good deal for the price. The sushi roll prices are all very reasonable. The quality is high, and the presentation is great. I love that the sashimi special comes with plenty of fresh fish AND a tuna roll on the side. Best deal in town. The ordering system is fun too! You order on a tablet and can pace your food. First place I've been to with Korean fried chicken in Wichita Kansas and I was very impressed. The ambience of the restaurant was so cute I loved the designs of the booths and the spacious dining area. I was just as impressed with our service even though everything was ordered through the table top tablet the staff were very comforting and friendly. Decided to visit the day after the grand opening. Their system at the tables are currently down and beer isn't able to be served yet but we really came for the food. Started with tempura vegetable. Overall very tasty but not as crispy as I like tempura. Next came the Aburi salmon nigiri. Let me just say this was quite the unique nigiri. The flavors melded together so perfectly that I saved the 2nd one for the last bite of my meal. If you're a salmon lover this is a MUST GET. The Korean fried chicken came out next. The bone in wings come LARGE and IN CHARGE with bold flavor. It was a little on the salty side but that's what the cabbage is for!! Finally the larry lobster roll came last. Let's just say the combination of flavors is what I'd expect from a sushi restaurant in California. It was done really well and quite possibly the best roll I've had in Wichita, ever. And its MASSIVE. We had so many leftovers and they still surprised us with complimentary tastings of other items! Service was impeccable despite being new. It took us a while to get a chance to try this restaurant and had really high hopes for it. And unfortunately it was disappointing. One word, SALTY. Almost everything was just salty. The calamari itself was already salty, and it was paired with soy sauce. Not the best combination. Would have preferred a mango sauce that is sweet and tangy. Shrimp tempura came out nicely done but with no dipping sauce so it was just bland. We came mainly for the chicken just because this was the first restaurant that offers Korean Chicken in Wichita. And we were greatly disappointed. The chicken was crunchy and the texture of Korean chicken but were VERY salty. You can barely taste the flavor. Maybe some pickled radish would have helped even out the flavor but unfortunately that was not on the menu. Each chicken order comes with 8 pieces, paired with Korean slaw and seasoned fries. We did not get a chance to try their sushi selection as they ran out. So maybe we will come back later and give them another chance. But as of right now, not a big fan. Miya Izakaya, you serve some DELICIOUS korean fried chicken. So yes, here it is. Friend worked hard & managed to get us in to try this new place. We went with the standard "soy" flavor (mix of sweet & spice) for our chicken. Each set came with CURRY FRIES (unbelievable I tell ya. Such a nice break from the usual cajun fries that's served) + cabbage slaw (made with Kewpie mayo?). We were such fans of the chicken - very juicy, crispy, and big! And because I wanted to try more of the full menu, also got sushi + udon. Both were good, but come on... if you had a choice... chicken all the way right?? Restaurant is still new with only 2 servers, so owner suggested coming around 8pm to beat the crowds. We ended up waiting ~1hr for our food which came out 1 dish at a time, but as a result... everything came out hot & fresh. So truly, no regrets. Being patient & kind is worth it. I ordered a few different things to try on my initial visit and I left full and happy. The first up was some classic Nigiri; it wasn't fishy smelling and tasted perfectly fine. In my opinion, the wings were where it is at. I ordered 5050 and got two different flavors. Probably the best way to enjoy them and try different flavors. This is extremely disappointing as I have been here on multiple occasions. The food is good. The Korean fried chicken is one of my favorite things to eat there. Alex cleaned up our plates, gave us our checks. Normal stuff. Then he took our drinks away. Without a word. I thought that was unusual, but I wanted to catch up with my friend since she's in town. Then Alex went up to us stating we need to go because they're gonna need this table since it's getting close to their busy time and that they'll get a line. There were more than 6 tables open when I got up. There were no lines at the door. I would have been more understanding if it was packed, but seriously? Even when I go to brunch at different restaurants that have an hour wait time, I have never been dismissed. Another scenario is when I brought a couple of friends coming from town to this spot and we ordered multiple items to do a family style dining. We asked for plates and the waitress rolled her eyes when we asked for extra plates so we can share. "Plates are only used for the kitchen". I have never heard such a thing. So we shared our meal with napkins. I am done with this establishment. Their service is poor. When you read past reviews and their responses, you'd be shocked. Each table is separate and inside its own little structure so it's a lot more intimate and blocks out sound from other guests. The restaurant was a bit hard to find in the dark. The sign is not by the street entrance. The food prices are high. The taste is pretty good though. We enjoyed everything we ordered. We had salmon nigiri, salmon roll, Korean fried chicken, and fries. The miso soup was mediocre. I did not enjoy the food ordering experience. Using a small computer screen to order was cumbersome. You also have to use the screen just to ask for more water. I don't think you should tip 15% here.
