It's all self serve and they don't even have a dine in option, but they let you dine in if you want to after they package your food to go. It's very weird all around. I get that a deconstructed menu is all the rage for New York hipsters. But with ramen in Wichita, it's a bit too far... This place USED TO BE great! I was a regular at least once a week. Whenever I was working Downtown after 6:00, it was one of my regular go-to's. Unfortunately, ownership decided to try to do a full conversion to a bona bar a couple years ago. I'm not a boba fan, so I haven't been back in a while. I've been going to Sakura instead (which is only two doors down). But today, I decided to stop in for lunch. TL;DR version - I probably won't be coming back. At least not to this location. It is clear that ownership's goal is to make the boba bar work until it doesn't. Quite literally half of the seats (that used to be packed at lunch and dinner) have been taken away in favor of a bar top that sits empty, with refrigerators full of...milk? I have no idea. It's kinda weird and awkward. I have no idea what their boba sales are, if it makes sense in the marketplace. But it was almost dead. When I walked in, I was given a menu and told to take a seat. In the old days, a server would actually take your order at the table. It took me five minutes of looking around before I was finally able to see the sign that said "Order Here" up at the cash bar. As I walked up, only then was I given a menu which clearly had not been updated: laminate coming up, roughly dog eared tags, fading on pics and print. Once I got up to the service window, I made my selection: tonkotsu shotu ramen, extra egg and an order of pork shumai. At which point, I asked what they have in terms of sodas. The server looked at me funny and said they have a couple of Japanese sodas. The prices were 3.50-4.50 each. I asked if they just had Coke or Pepsi (they used to have fountain drinks before the remodel). Apparently they don't. But they do have water... By the front door... Which you have to serve yourself... Out of an orange cooler, like when we all played Little League. Sat down and waited. The wait time was about standard. Finally, my food came out. But they brought it to me in a bag and to-go ware. This is a MAJOR change from back in the day when you would have it brought to you fully constructed, in the bowl, and hot. I asked if they had just gotten my order wrong, like if they accidentally thought I'd ordered it to go (happens sometimes, we mishear things; no biggie). Apparently not. The server said they put EVERYTHING in to-go ware "because it makes it easier on the staff so they don't have to clean." But he made sure to let me know that I was free to construct my meal at my table and eat it there if I wanted. I didn't. So now, I'm going to take it back to my office. I guess... Once at the office, I opened up the food (see pics) and constructed my own meal as best I could. Nothing was inedible. However, I ordered extra soft-boiled egg. It was hard-boiled. And it came in a little plastic container instead of in the main bowl. The pork wasn't seasoned very well, and it was a palid brown rather than good and pink with flavorful brownING on it. The noodles were slightly undercooked. And even after I dumped the broth in the bowl (again - I have to construct the actual dish), the eggs were cold. The pork shumai was slightly burned on top. Not enough I'd call it bad per se. However, they lacked flavor unless I dumped them in the soy sauce provided, which made them super salty. Altogether, it was like if Panda Express tried to do ramen. This WAS a great restaurant in a great location with a great vibe. But it's not that anymore. Which is strange because I've been to the east side location recently, and it has all of the quality in terms of food, service and atmosphere that the Delano location used to. So, I don't really know what's up with ownership/management that they let their original shop go downhill so far or so fast. If you like OLD Yokohama, wait until the weekend or evening and go to the Woodlawn and Central location. But if you want good ramen at lunch Downtown, hit up Sakura instead. If you're working Downtown after 6:00, then go to Wasabi. But Yokohama in Delano? They either need to bring the excitement and energy to it they used to, or they need to abandon the space and let a different restaurant in that is actually going to appreciate the location in a hot, hip neighborhood. read more

went in for a birthday party for my daughter. when ramen order was received for my daughter, she complained it tasted different. It also tasted bland and no longer rich. the waitress explained the broth for all ramens soups were similar and changed about 2 months ago. We asked why isn't this addressed. My daughter barely touched the bowl. the waitress did offer to exchange the food but my daughter was disgusted. they took her bowl gave us 10% off her bowl. My daughter did not even want to eat it. Paid for a meal that they took the food and charged us for it and said toppings were eaten. we had them on the side for her. when you take food back it's suppose to be removed off the ticket. The place was super cute decor. Most of the tables only seat 2 because the aisle where you walk in and stand in line goes between the tables. There are 2 tables at the entrance you can pull together for 4-5, it's kind of funky with the bar above the tables I bonked my head. The chicken & veggie ramen were both good. I came here a few years ago when I was in town for a work trip. I'm back in Wichita for a day and knew I had to stop here again, and I'm so glad I did. They've expanded their menu and it was already good, but they've gotten better with time. I got the truffle chicken gyoza and it was perfectly crispy and delicious. When you do dine in, your meal will be delivered to your table in delivery format. No real bowl or utensils just waxed coated containers. The quality has really suffered. I haven't been here for 5 years or so but I decided to try the old location for memories sake. I would not recommend this place outside of pickup or delivery. The food is still good (ordered the spicy garlic miso ramen) but the service and ambiance is terrible for a restaurant. They have chosen to cater to their pick-up audience, so upon sitting down I had no idea my food was going to be served in a takeout bag. My soup was in a styrofoam container and my toppings were in a plastic container; it seemed like so much waste. They didn't even have reasonably sized soup spoons for what is supposed to be a ramen shop. Disposable ramen spoons exist, but they choose not to provide any. When you order, you have to tip immediately, and later they call your name and you have to pick up your own food at the counter. Why did I tip for no service? I got my own drink, and picked up my own food, and had no service my whole time eating. I feel scammed for tipping. They turned what was already a tight fit into terms of seating into an even tighter fit, getting rid of tables in exchange for more storage. Really wanted to sit down and have a cute dining experience in Delano, but it was actually quite upsetting to be eating like that on my day off. I love Ramen, however I was very disappointed in this establishment for several reasons. Let me start with the location 5. The ambiance really lacks bc is rather small space but they automatically pack the food to go, which is ridiculous. 2 star. You have to wait on yourself 2 star. They ask for tip with checkout starting at 20%, 2 star. A few small tables but we had to eat with plastic spoons and our chopsticks.2 stars. I had the spicy miso, not spicy, no choice of ramen noodles. All quality Ramen restaurants give you a choice of the noodle. Works great if you call or place an order online and pick up to go. We came in and order to go and took 20 minutes. They give your food in to go plate and containers. Not much customer service cuz they are busy and ready for you to order and go to the next customer. Their Taro boba tea was amazing. Chicken gyoza for appetizer was delicious but I wish I had say sauce on the side. I tried their spicy garlic miso Ramen. It's barely spicy as the name sound. The soup adds a kick to it. I am from Northern California, and I've been to Japan. I know what good ramen tastes like. I'm so glad I decided to give this place a try. The BTTM is a spicy miso ramen that is served with beef tongue. I know it may sound weird, but it's amazing. The spice isn't too overpowering, and the combination with egg, vegetables, and ramen tastes great. I would definitely come back here in a heartbeat and I hope they expand to other locations in other states. Yes, I think it's that good. I also love the cute T-shirts that they sell, and I bought the shiba inu one, since I have a Shiba (her name is Tama). This is definitely a must try place in Wichita. PS This particular location is small, and can get crowded. Luckily they have a much bigger location across town, so you can easily go there if they're too busy at this location. People eat quick here, so don't let the crowds scare you. read more

Totally unexpected!!! I was here in Wichita for an overnight as I saw this place the following day that I was leaving. I was back a little more than a week later and I thought I would try it out as I am a huge fan of Ramen. The last time I had food was ramen was in Philadelphia China Town. This place went beyond my expectations and was blown away. With 14 tables in the place it definitely is a quaint little place. I on the hand like places like this as it adds charm and character. Ramen...in Wichita?! Why yes. We stopped here for dinner in the midst of some crazy trick-or-treat festival right in front of the restaurant en route from Manhappiness to Norman, OK. While we waited outside for a coveted seat in the tiny inside, we read newspapers about the joint outside on the windows. Yokahama Ramen Joint is owned by the founder of Beard Papa's (cream puff chain around the country). The menu we got was different than what was posted on yelp, with some items changed and lots of additional ramen choices. Eric R. ordered the black garlic tonkotsu on the recommendation of the server, and I ordered the chicken paitan ramen. It came out relatively quickly and we were seated right in front of the window so all of these cute costumed chidren stared longingly through the window at us while we ate our hot, delicious soup. This was the first time I had kara-age in my soup as a topping, which was really interesting. I also had never had creamy looking chicken broth. The chef came out and explained the bones have to cook for over 12 hours to make this texture of the broth. The noodles were yummy, and my other toppings included corn, green onion, seasoned egg, nori, and beni shoga.
