I asked to have the roll with regular tuna., not spicy and have been advised that there is a $4 charge for the substitution. We've been repeat customers for years and this is insulting. ZERO STARS! I ordered 3 things: Miso Soup, The Garden Salad and The Orange Trees Roll. The salad was the only item that was decent. The Orange Trees Roll is $16.95 and claims to be fresh snow crab but instead it came with obvious fake crab salad mix. Only half of the whole roll actually had fish on it and same with the avocado. The cucumber inside was clearly the rinds/green part only from the cucumber that is just lazy as well. The Miso Soup was extremely salty and after eating/drinking half of it, I found a huge piece of plastic, that was clearly not supposed to be there, in the soup cup. The food was good. We order the Ninza Cake, Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll, and Miso soup. Every dish was delicious. I wouldn't order a deep fried sushi roll again, but it was still delicious. The service was quite slow and inefficient with our waters coming out after our appetizer. The restaurant itself was cute and dim. I liked how chill it was. Absolutely horrible experience. The cost is outrageous, paid $27 or literally 15 pieces of sushi. Ordered online and had to wait over an hour just to get my order and kept getting delayed. Staff were incredibly rude and showed they didn't care about their customers at all. When I came to pickup, asked me my name 4 different times. It was always my family's go to spot for sushi. I had always referred it to others because of their delicious food and service. Unfortunately on our most recent visit, our server "Crystyna" gave us a horrible attitude. I am not one to take it to heart or to allow it to affect me but when my kids see the attitude and don't appreciate it then it becomes a problem. My kids were ordering and she had no patience with them. Becoming rude and raising her voice at them while ordering. While asking for our appetizer, she also gave my wife an attitude. At the end after picking up the check, she threw the receipt and pen on the table. Was semi busy, I guess, maybe 4 tables at lunch. Ordered the angel roll. Looked like a decent portion. The cucumber wrap... was miserable at best. Roll ended up as a mess on plate. Service was decent, there weren't many servers on either day we decided to visit so it took a while to receive our food. The monkey brain appetizer was not that good tbh. The mushroom was an overpowering flavor which I did not expect. The sashimi was thick and savory, and the tiger roll was worth the hype. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice enough, it was interesting watching the sushi chefs making every order not far from the tables. This has become our go to sushi restaurant on the east side of town. keeping in mind this is Kansas and not a state anywhere near an ocean, it's about as good as it gets in Wichita. Ninza Sushi East was one of the best sushi places I've tried in Wichita! I was really surprised by how fresh all of their sushi was. My boyfriend and I came because of their grand opening promotion, and I'm really glad we gave Ninza a try. The restaurant was super cute and nicely decorated. I especially loved the bar area. I liked my first visit so much, I came a second time within the week with another friend and she also really enjoyed their rolls. --- Fresh Rolls: -Alaska Roll 5/5 ($11.95): This roll is probably my favorite out of all the rolls I had at Ninza (so much so, that I got it again the second time I was there). I'm a sucker for salmon, and the salmon combined with the fresh avocado and crab meat was to die for. The sauce wasn't too overwhelming either, so the freshness of the salmon was able to shine through. Alaska rolls are pretty classic at every sushi restaurant, and Ninza does their Alaska roll so freaking well. If you're a fan of fresh salmon, I'd definitely recommend getting this roll! -Red Fantasy Roll 4/5 ($13.95): The Red Fantasy consisted of crab, avocado, asparagus, fried garlic, eel sauce, and was topped with fresh blue fin tuna. This roll was also very fresh and tasty as well but I felt like the eel sauce was a bit overpowering. I like to be able to taste the fish, so I wasn't a huge fan of the amount of sauce in the roll, but other than that it was really good. Tuna isn't usually my favorite, but the blue fin they used was really delicious. --- Tempura Rolls: -Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll 2/5 ($13.95): I'm honestly not the biggest fan of fried rolls or tempura rolls, since I like my sushi raw and fresh. I feel like tempura rolls are too heavy and greasy, but that's just my personal opinion. The Spicy Tuna Tempura had deep fried spicy tuna, avocado, and shrimp tempura. The roll itself was huge and definitely very filling. The first few bites were really good, but I got sick of it afterward. My boyfriend and I also agreed that the texture of the spicy tuna was a bit off. It was sort of rubbery and eraser-like, but if you ate it all together with the roll, the other ingredients masked it (he was dissecting his last piece and only eating the tuna because he was too full lol). For people who don't like raw fish, tempura rolls are a good option, but they're just not for me. --- Sashimi: -Combo D Platter 4.5/5 ($15.95): I judge sushi restaurants by the quality of their sashimi, and Ninza's sashimi is definitely one of the best I've had in Wichita. The Combo D platter consisted of 5 pieces of nigiri (raw fish on rice) and 6 pieces of sashimi that are chef's choice. I wasn't too sure what all of the fish were, but they were all delicious, and the salmon (especially!!!) was so fatty and high quality. The fish didn't melt in my mouth like other places I've tried, but it was close to it. I highly recommend getting their sashimi if you're a fan of raw fish. The presentation of the fish was beautiful too, with all of the pieces were cut thickly and nicely. The rice to fish ratio for the nigiri was perfect as well. There wasn't too much rice and you could still taste the fish. --- Happy Hour (3-6pm) Specials: -Spicy Tuna Roll 3/5 ($4): The spicy tuna roll was pretty basic and similar to spicy tuna rolls I've had at any other sushi restaurant. It wasn't amazing or spectacular, but it was still yummy and definitely worth the $4. --- Daily Specials (Tuesdays/Thursdays): Their cocktails (5/5) were really delicious as well. All of their cocktails are $5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is such a steal! I forgot which one my boyfriend and I got, but it had lychee, pineapple juice, vodka, and peach sake in it. I really recommend that one (and the bartender did too)! --- Overall (4/5): I eat sushi pretty often and at a variety of places in southern CA, and I was VERY pleasantly surprised with how good Ninza's sushi was since I've been disappointed with so many other sushi places in Wichita. Their fish was fresh and didn't seem to be too obviously frozen. The fish quality wasn't the best I've had, but it was still delicious. The presentation of their sushi was gorgeous, and as someone who loves taking pictures of their food, I really appreciated that. The overall service was also very friendly and prompt, and the restaurant was located in a strip with plenty of parking which was nice. The menu was pretty big and I definitely want to try some of their appetizers or desserts. We recommended the restaurant to several of our friends, and everyone who tried it also had really enjoyable experiences as well! I've been coming here since they opened. I still say it's some of the best sushi in town - however, my love of the place dwindles with each visit. Tonight was a perfect example of why I come here less and less. Arriving around 6PM on a Sunday night - the place is about 40% full, I'd say. It becomes apparent pretty quickly, though, that dine-in is not their focus anymore. The sushi bar is lined with bags of to-go orders. Dozens of them. We sit down, the waitress takes our drink order, and brings back everything but the alcohol orders. As usual. Long story short, I got my beer when I FINISHED my sushi. Great. Thanks. I watched an older guy going around cleaning tables, polishing things up. I see 4 waitresses standing around the sushi bar. Can NOBODY bring my freaking drink? It's getting comical how bad the service has gotten. The waitresses are all saying "What are WE having tonight?" or "Can I get US anything else?", on and on. Enough already. WE are waiting on our drinks, as usual. Regardless, I've about had enough. Wasabi is just up the road, and they have always been consistently slow. Their sushi is, well, ok, but at least you know going in that you'll be waiting. But Ninza, I don't get it. Hire a damn bartender, for crying out loud. OR, just call in for takeout. I have been going to Ninza East for quite some time but sadly I will not return. The service is just not not good anymore. Last week I witnessed a female server yell at one of the Chef's about serving an order which was extremely inappropriate. And then tonight another female server took my order while she was at the register and I was seated at the end of the bar. Apparently she did not hear what I said and my order was wrong. Placed an online order almost 2 hours ago via Uber Eats, and somehow it was only ready for pick up when I called to see why it was still not showing ready for pick up on the app. She finally told me the order had been sitting there for 45 minutes (even so, how does it take 1 hour to make a small order???), meanwhile my app showed multiple drivers had stopped in but apparently left without it. Now I'm worried I'll get food poisoning from raw fish that's been sitting out for 1-2 hours. At the time of this writing, I still haven't received it. I like being able to see the cooks as they make the sushi. I come here often as I think it's some of the best Sushi in Wichita but each time I seem to leave a little bit disappointed due to the service. Today I came in and was pushed far enough to leave this review. When I was seated their were two others tables of two people. Not much going on. Our server had forgotten to bring wasabi and ginger out. She brought the sushi out and we sat waiting for another 5 mins just wanting to ask for wasabi and ginger. We had waited long enough we had to go find another server to ask for it. Our server was sitting there drinking water doing nothing. I understand if it's busy or you are making drinks or doing something else but she wasn't. Worst experience of my life. Had tables that were there after us served before us, watched our food set up at the sushi bar for 30 minutes so it was room temperature by the time we reminded the server that we were still not served. When we told the manager she seem un-empathetic and made excuses. We really tried not to complain, but after they never even made one of our rolls and then tried to charge us for it we were upset. We even reminded the server that we had not gotten our roll and waited an additional 25 minutes. By that time we said forget the roll just bring us our check, our server brought us the check with in a minute. It was probably the fastest service we have received this evening. We had our first visit yesterday. Love the decor inside and how everything was set up. We were greeted with a friendly hello and got seated right away. Our waiter came and got our drink order and said he would back as he was was the one wHo had to make the alcoholic beverages we ordered. We got our drinks and then waited....and waited...and waited, let's just say we waited a long time for him to come take our order. (Which he never did) I made eye contact with the other waitress and I think she knew by the look on my face that we were getting impatient. She walks over and takes our order.
