Attended a private showing of Michael(yes I'm a HUGE fan!). Theatre was quite busy and we needed assistance with having enough cups and popcorn for guests. Shannon was very helpful and she went above and beyond to assist. Concession stand was very busy! If patrons want butter and/or salt, must go to the front and get it which can be challenging for those with mobility issues. Plenty of parking including handicapped spaces. Barrier free restrooms are clean and at both ends of the theatre. There's also a bar area. Enjoyed the film although sound quality wasn't the best. There was an issue with lights before and afterward. Overall, it was a great evening! read more

We held a 13th birthday at MJR Troy and it was well-worth the investment. The package included a private theater, movie of your choosing (with or without previews) pizza, snack trays (popcorn and gummies) and an icee to drink. One free refill on the popcorn and drink. The staff was friendly and helpful. The complex was very clean and pretty empty on a Sat afternoon. I don't know what happened to the pizza - it was fairly gross and inedible, but otherwise our kiddo loved his party. read more

Truly great movie theater complex with a wide selection of goods at the concessions, all the top releases available to watch and also vertical seating within the movie theaters themselves. Some of the audience members were clapping along during the intro song, so it probably is a local Michigan favorite. Recommended! read more

Our Avondale Adult Transition Program went there recently to watch Hoppers. We corresponded with the staff ahead of time to pre-order our food, due to our large group size. They were super accommodating and helpful in ordering food and purchasing bulk tickets. The price of tickets was great at just $7 for a matinee movie. They have a spacious parking lot and it was full! There was a long line waiting to purchase tickets. They need more staff to service those who don't purchase seats online. Only one self-service machine to purchase tickets was working, so there was a line there, too! The theatre is clean and the space flows nicely. I did miss having a reclining seat for my movie. UPDATE: Remaining Issues since last visit are: The popcorn REMAINS a 3.5 out of 5 (has an odd oily aftertaste). The seating in the theaters I attended are the classic stadium seating, which now seems very antiquated in the age of recliners and VIP Seating for couples. The concession line is still WAAAAY too long, and doesn't move as quickly as it once did. New issues: Other moviegoers who are CONSTANTLY on their mobile phones during films (and previews). Noisy moviegoers, who seemingly forget that we are NOT in their F'ing living room, so they should stop talking during the movie (no one needs to hear your "hot take" on what just happend, Steve!). This location (and many others, tbh) would fair better if they actually sent their employees into the theaters multiple times throughout a features (you know, like they USED TO DO) to ensure that people are not ruining the movie going experience for others. read more

I'm excited about MJR theaters. I hadn't heard about or noticed them until a few weeks ago while planning to see Beyonce's Renaissance. The theater offered reasonably priced tickets at a great location for me and my guests. I signed up for their membership, bought five tickets, and received a free ticket for a future movie. I noticed lots of great showings on the website, including Broadway plays and musicals. The theater in Troy is beautiful, clean, and cozy with great customer service. There's plenty of parking and ample restrooms. There is a bar located inside. It was closed for a private event, so unfortunately, I didn't get to experience its offerings. The concession stand had anything you'd want at the movies, including yummy hotdogs. I found the seating super comfy with big cushioned seats with cup holders and wide aisles. I am going to the Westland location later this month. I purchased the VIP seats to see The Color Purple. Can't wait for that experience! read more

We love this movie complex, especially the Epic theater but over the last month June 2025, both MJR's web page and app do not show any movies or times for the Epic theater, which is the only theater we like at the troy MJR. MJR's web page and App also don't shave any notice about the Epic theater not being open. The other theaters are the smaller size which is only OK. read more

No complaints, this is a nice movie theatre. I like that you don't have to pre-pick your seats, that's not a trend I like. It's clean inside, the movie prices are reasonable - especially if it's a matinee. The snack prices are high - but that's every theatre. At least you can get popcorn refills - if you're willing to run out during the movie - which we are sometimes if we are really needing (Hah!) more popcorn. The seats are comfortable, the bathrooms are plentiful and clean and you can pre-buy your tickets or get them when you arrive. What's not to like? read more

This is a great spot to spend the evening doing something low key after a late night celebrating and ringing in the new year during quarantine or any particular weekend. No drinks or food allowed during the movies during the pandemic to allow patrons to keep their masks on during the entirety of the movie. There's an Emagine right by my house, but I prefer to watch movies either at the Main art theater or at this MJR location in Troy. There's less tension, mayhem and stress at this theater than at Emagine. It's not a fancy theater, but their chairs are fairly comfy for sitting during a 2+ hour movie. Patrons can easily sit spaced apart in these theaters. read more

I really don't understand the hype of MJR, despite having a catchy "theme song" - clap clap clap-. The prices are pretty comparable to other theaters that have way more amenities and so MJR just feels really outdated. I hate saying that because I know that this, like Emagine, is a Michigan chain, but we are in the 21st century and as an avid-movie goer, I've come to expect a standard level to my movie-going experience that MJR falls short in in multiple categories. Firstly, and probably most importantly, they don't have recliners. They still have those standard rocking chairs that don't have a lot of padding and become uncomfortable very quickly and take you out of the movie you're trying to enjoy. Secondly, they don't have reserved seating?! Absolutely atrocious. Gone are the days where I'm willing to / have the time to get to a movie theater well in advance to claim a good seat and sitting in a terrible seat also takes you out of the movie IMMEDIATELY. Thirdly, like I mentioned earlier, their pricing isn't even that much cheaper by any means from Emagine, so I would much rather go to a comfortable Emagine that contains all the amenities that MJR is lacking and more. The only thing I can think about that might put MJR slightly better is that MJR has a kid's pack concessions box where you can get a small popcorn, bag of fruit gummies, and small drink for a very affordable price. But I feel like I'm the exception to the rule here. I personally am not a huge fan of popcorn so this amount of popcorn is more than plenty for me, even as an adult, and the kid's pack is surely not enough for me to come here given all the other things they lack. I've tried MJR, and only this Troy location, a handful of times just in those off chances when other times at Emagine didn't work with my schedule and every time has been a let down here. The only reason they aren't getting a lower rating from me is because they are Michigan-based. Do yourself and your body a favor and go to Emagine locations instead. We headed over to Detroit for a premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. I think only for a Wizarding World of Harry Potter movie would we drive almost 3 hours. That said, if we lived anywhere near this theatre, it would be OUR PLACE. Things I loved: * The staff is extremely friendly (thank you!) * I love the wide range of movie promotional materials for photo opps (especially when you are in cosplay. Just saying). * The seats in theater 8 were large and comfy. BTW, this particular theater is ENORMOUS. The screen is the biggest I've ever seen, and the rows have at least 30 seats in them. * Following that, there is enough space between rows that you can sit with your legs crossed, and won't have to move an inch for someone walking past. * Clean, spacious bathrooms * Decent pricing Things I didn't love: * While there was seemingly a lot of handicap parking, they were ALL FULL. Obviously, more is needed. That was a very long and painful walk in. * It's so far away from where we live in Kalamazoo (hint hint!) * Psychedelic carpet. Uff da. Love this theater! I've been coming here a lot and I think it's much better than Emagine. The workers actually enjoy working here and are very friendly/interactive. Drinks are better than emagine and honestly so are movie times. I just hope they upgrade the seats someday. I came in on Christmas day and it was really interesting and cool that the workers wanted to be there. I didn't feel like a bother for being there that day. The manager was very friendly and it seems like he's great at managing because the employees are happy. The bartender was also very friendly and so was John R. at the concession stand. Movies are great and they offer a variety of movie times. Drink and snack options are also great. So happy that they offer valentine vodka! Will definitely return! From the ticket counter, ticket taker and concession stand, these were the most articulate, polite employees I have encountered at a movie theater in a while. The popcorn was fresh, but it was pre-bagged, meaning you could not have butter in the middle. It was a self-serve buttering station with some flavors you could also top your popcorn with. Major downfall for me - Pepsi products. I am a Diet Coke drinker, and no, Diet Pepsi is not ok. I had been to this theater once many years ago, but the seats appear new. The theater was clean. They really are my favorite theater! They constantly have seats available even up to 5mins past show times and always offer great deals. Student discounts and free popcorn are always offered and the rewards program constantly spits out free tickets and free drinks or popcorn! It's always clean and they offer a good variety of show times. Me and Mr. V come here about once a week and never have any issues. A few things I wish they did differently would be: offer buckets for the popcorn like Emagine does, for them to add the butter to the popcorn, add reclining seats, and accept the reward program points at the concession stand. I was extremely disappointed with this movie theatre. First of all they don't have the recliner seating which is pretty outdated since most MJR theatres now have that, especially for the price of the ticket. I came in to watch Dune 2, I was the only one in the theatre. 1/3 of the way through the movie just stopped working and went black. Had to go tell staff, and it took ten minutes to fix. Then 2/3 of the way through some very rude teens came in who were movie hopping and sat right behind me and were making snide comments, jumping over chairs and turning on their flashlights. I went to tell staff and they just said they would "check on it". This theatre is just run by other teens that don't care. I had two interruptions with the movie I paid for, I feel like it ruined the experience and I'd like a refund. I won't be back here. Kept slip sliding in my seat felt like a slip and slide. The hallway was freezing cold. Went to see Solo, I'm one of those Star Wars people. The movie itself was ok. We had the two large sodas and larger popcorn $14.50 and worst part was it was Pepsi. The popcorn your typical movie snack. The movie theater was clean and the worker were friendly. A Star is Born!! ....A movie that delivered to its anticipated hype! Lady delivered a powerful performance with Bradley as well. These two power houses switched roles and blew up the screen! The chemistry was certainly believable and the singing from Bradley amazing! The love story develops through out the film and pulls you in deeper and deeper! I never looked at my watch one time! The words to the songs () are tender, deep and pure ... tugging at the heartstrings! The love between Ally (Lady) and Jackson (Bradley) leaves you breathless... Our seats were comfortable as always! How fun is it that everyone in the theatre claps, as if conducted, during the MJR theme song? I would never experience this in California! We went to watch The Avengers and it was in the "EPIC EXPERIENCE" theatre. I don't come to this theatre often because it's a bit out of my way, but when I do, I truely enjoy it for a variety of different reasons. For starters, the parking is easy in, easy out. Secondly, The ticket prices are competitive, and they have a great selection of movies and times throughout the day. I also enjoy the seating here as well. The recliners are comfy and the theatres are generally clean and in good order. Also, they have a bar area where you can get drinks and light snacks, which I think is super cool. I didn't order anything when I was here, but enjoyed sitting in the bar area for a few minutes before my movie started. They have a good selection of concessions but the prices are high. Nachos, hot dogs, popcorn, slushee machines and candy are pretty standard fare here. But mostly, I enjoyed my time here for the theatre. I would come here more often, but it is out of my range, about 10 miles from home. I will say, they do have Emagine theatres beat in regards to movie selection, that's for sure! I love this theater. It's always clean and organized. My favorite part is MJR rewards program. Going to the movies with four people can be pricey. Last night I ordered my tickets online and spent almost $50 bucks. Once you add in the popcorn and goodies it's easily a $100 night. The reward program allows you to earn money off tickets, and freebies at the concession stand. Be prepared for long lines at the bar or concession stand. I always try to arrive 30 minutes before the movie to get my Long Island and a good seat. Ps. I love the Long Island's and Chocolat drink at the bar. Enjoy your movie!!! read more
