First time visit to this movie theater. We attended a later evening showing on a Thursday, so it was fairly dead and zero lines. The tickets were easy to purchase online same day. The concessions staff were friendly and efficient. Only 4 stars for concessions pricing...$8 for an icy? Crazy. The theater itself was clean, the chairs reclined, and were cozy. The previews were 20 minutes long which was excessive. The volume was a little louder than I would have liked, but the overall movie experience was great. read more

Took my kids in for the new FNAF movie and the staff was unbelievably rude. A manager came out to snap at a girl about wearing a mask. As the girl was complying with the request,, the manager snapped at her again to let her know she could take it out to her car if she couldn't follow the rules (that she was following). The guy working behind the concessions counter was a straight up jerk. No idea if it was little man syndrome, or what, but he had a terrible attitude; he was huffing and blowing and tsk-ing about everything, even though there was nothing wrong happening. Not sure who he was mad at, but taking it out on the customers and making them feel uncomfortable because he wants to huff and pout about things isn't ok. Not to mention his fingernails were too long and they were dirty. Food service workers should not have dirty fingernails. It had been a while since we have come to this particular theatre...I'm starting to remember why. read more

I appreciate the reclining seats at AMC John R, it was one of the first to change to these seats and is the closest to me. The theater is aging a bit, but staff tries to keep it clean (LILO & Stitch opening weekend may be the exception as the concession area was getting trashed by toddlers). I recently became an A-list member since there were several movies I want to see the next few months. If you're going to more than 1 movie a month, the membership is worth it ($19.99 per month for 4 movies a week). Otherwise, we all know movies and snacks are expensive. I've been saving money with: 1. Groupon has amc tickets and food at a discount. 2. Buying gift cards at Costco that are good for 2 tickets and $20. read more

I saw F1 with family members at one of the MJR Theatres (I think this is the same one?). But the movie was thrilling (in an adrenaline kind of way) and the employees were very nice and hospitable. The popcorn was fresh, bathrooms clean, and chairs equally clean. It was basically empty. read more

It was easy to get the ticket the people at the concession stance was yelling at customers and prices were really high I saw the Michael Jackson movie and thought it would be fun but two of my friends get kicked out for texting their parents. There were people in our seats and at first the workers didn't do anything but then they move them and then we just left after that and then my friend lost her credit card so I went back into the theater to find it in the worker said I can't find it because I have to wait till the movie is done, but I still looked for it and found it and then after he said all the people that got kicked out would get a refund, but none of my friends got a refund and he told us we had to exit the store read more

Located in sort of a shared parking lot of a run down shopping strip mall. Clean, bright building with medium sized theatres. They have the large reclining padded chairs. Decent sound, good projection. The bathrooms are a little far from the theatres. My understanding is that the alcohol drinks are expensive (I didn't buy any). read more

theater was not clean at all. Seats were dirty and nasty from food being left on them smeared it was so bad I almost wanted to say forget seeing the movie I was there for. The seats are sticky especially the buttons to move them. For the price of the tickets they should at least have clean seats and heated recliners as well. 1. having 4 registers at a 15 theatre establishment is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Let's say each showing has about 10 people, 38 people would come to each register to order food. I've worked at a theatre for 2 years, so I can confidently say almost all of these people are taking well over a minute to figure out what they want. Assuming each person takes exactly one minute, it would take THIRTY EIGHT minutes at maximum labor to get through a 150 person rush- which NEEDS to be absolutely nothing at a multiplex of over 10 theaters, ESPECIALLY when your building carries the name of the largest cinema company in the country. 2. On top of this, WHY would you tell people previews will be 25-30 minutes long when they aren't? I realize it's an automated message, but come on, contact corporate; do anything. We came at 8:25 to our 8:30 showtime assuming we would have our food and be sat down in our seat by 8:50 at the latest- still saving 5 minutes for previews, while also getting to see the whole film. Nope, since they only had 4 registers, the line took well over 25 minutes. I wouldn't really be so upset to wait IF the film ACTUALLY started 25-30 minutes after the listed showtime, but no, we get to our theater and it's 10 minutes into the film. To amplify this inconvenience, it was the series finale of stranger things, a show I have loved since I was 12 years old. Knowing that people will never be able to see this in theaters again, I can't even imagine how inconsiderate the amc corporate must actually be towards their consumers. 3. Management did NOT prepare for this event. At all. For context, I'm an assistant manager at a theatre and I could've single handedly prepared this event better. And it's not hard at ALL. You put a couple tables out, have a manager or supervisor scanning vouchers and handing out popcorn & drinks to those who have vouchers, and you send the rest of the customers to the actual concession stand. Seriously, not that difficult. Would have saved customers 10+ minutes AND made it easier for the employees to handle. To sum it all up, 0/10 will NEVER return. read more

Womens bathroom off the lobby smelled like urine so intensely. The entire bathroom needs new stalls and floors its so run down and dirty. The theater #12 smelled like dirty feet it was gross. Over priced concessions too. Would not go here again. $7.70 for a small drink is ridiculous. read more

My previous review is still valid, but now AMC has announced their plan for charging more for better seats. Not the scale seats, but more for regular seats depending on where they are in the theater. They already charge 5 bucks for a soft drink, 20 for popcorn, and 5 for a candy bar. This is their plan to address dwindling crowds? Chare more? The airlines did this, and people now despise airlines. The difference is novidy needs to go to the movies. This, combined with a steady stream of mediocre films , must ensure this to be a disaster for AMC. The moment this is in effect, AMC will not see me back. I will just go to Emagine or MJR. And if they follow suit, im fine with my comfy recliner and my nice big flat screen, and my pantry full of snacks, combined with streaming and/or my DVD/Blu-ray collection. I can have a theater experience without ever going to a theater. Stop the cash-grabs and focus on giving value to your customers. I know that's a novel concept to a place that charges 20 bucks for popcorn, but give it a shot! Remember. I want to go to the theater but i don't NEED to go. read more

AMC is trash. I do not understand why anyone who lives in this area would opt to go to AMC over an Emagine Theaters. At Emagine, you literally have so much comfort and you'd be supporting a local, small business. The only redeeming quality of this AMC is that they actually offer recliners and reserved seating, making it slightly better than its other brethren. AMC's in general are so old and rickety though that even their recliners are a bit suspicious. But occasionally, if a showtime happens to work out here and ONLY here, then you'll catch me at this location. I think they occasionally offer 3D as an option as well, if that's something you're interested in. But I'd highly recommend driving the extra bit of distance to watching your movies at any of the many nearby Emagine options you have at your disposal rather than coming here 9.999 times out of 10. read more

It's cool. I go here when I stay in the area. My only complaint is that if you go see a later movie, they will turn off and shut down the concessions while you're in the movie, even though the theater is still open. I feel like that's wrong. They charge more in the evenings, opposed to a matinee. So it's like why would you shut down the concessions while there's still people in the theater, occupying theater space and trying to spend money. read more

Never thought I'd write a review for a movie theater, but here we are. There were many things about this theater that will make me not come back. Before you even enter the theater, you have to dodge all of the potholes in the parking lot that will literally engulf your car. After entering the theater I used the bathroom, which was very dirty and out of paper towels. Once I got to the concession stand, I ordered popcorn which was not good (not sure if this is an overall AMC issue). There were also no seasonings besides a salt shaker that looked like it was taken out of someone's kitchen. One of the butter containers was empty as well. This all happened before I even stepped into the theater which was very warm, to the point where I had to roll up my sleeves. This is unusual for a movie theater. The only good part was that the theater was empty on a Friday night so there were no lines (now I know why). The employees also seemed to be somewhat friendly. Overall, for the price of theaters these days, I would not come back to this one (or possibly any AMC theater). read more

Loudest theater I've ever been in, if you are sensitive to sound make sure to bring ear plugs or headphones. I had to walk out and request ear plugs. I am somewhat sensitive to sound, but I have never been in a theater that loud before. The staff were very nice and understanding. But for a moment they didn't think they had ear plugs, which would've prevented me from seeing this movie. They ended up finding some, but I hope they can keep them in stock for people who might be sensitive to sounds if they keep playing their movies this damn loud. read more

However, being an AMC Stubs A-List member, it sucks when there is a whole lot of ppl in line for concessions and there isn't a designated line for Stubs members. As I am now an A-List member, I've been to this theatre more than any other establishment in the area. This location runs most of the big box office movies and has multiple screens. While there are some "artisan films," that aren't available, most everything I want to see appears here. The seats recline and are pretty comfortable with enough room in the aisles for latecomers to find their way. Like most theaters, the seats can be a bit dirty on busy weekends. Thankfully, there's enough parking for all the Ebert and Roepers. read more

I don't like this theater. Every time there are issues. I purchased tickets to a movie (pre-release) and my only option was this location. We walk in, show our digital ticket, and wait 20 minutes in the concessions line before asking guest services for more lines (they only 2 lines open), but they were understaffed for a Friday night. We left the concession line just in time for the start of the movie. After the movie, we hit the restroom. There were about six toilets that couldn't be used and the floor was moldy - looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. I did inform guest relations, who said they had someone specifically for that - I don't believe that. Like I said, every time I come here it makes me hate it more and more. I'm so glad there are two MJR theaters nearby and I have better alternatives when I want to enjoy a night out. read more

This theater is a great! I love that you can purchase your tickets ahead of time as well as pick your seats during the purchase process - no need to get to the theater early to get a good seat! The seats here are very nice leather recliner seats - VERY comfortable! We just figured out that the middle armrest lifts up if you want to snuggle - though we like to keep ours down, it gives us two additional cup holders. :) This theater always seems to be freezing - be sure to bundle up! I would suggest getting the AMC Stubs Rewards program - you won't have to pay their convenience fee for online purchases and you will save money at the concession stand. My Stubs Rewards membership has more than paid for itself! read more

My new fave! Plush recliner seats with flip-up armrests, I never want to get up! AND there is still space for walking even with the seats reclined which equals slightly less seating, but who cares... Plus they're all high-techy, having you pick your seat when you buy the ticket and the staff nice enough to usher you to your seat if you need it. Although it is small with limited lobby space, they have totally revamped this theater and I like it a lot. No wonder it's always sold out here. read more

By far my favorite AMC theater. I love the comfortable seats and they are reclining; definitely the best AMC in Metro Detroit. I wish they would always have fresh popcorn but I'm sure that's hard to do on a slow Monday. I prefer the reserve seating so you don't have to worry about someone being in your seat when you get in the theater. I have been here once when my recliner didn't work but after I got help from the nearest employee he came over and plugged it in. So if your seat is ever not working; it's a simple fix so don't freak out. I appreciate the bar area and a good cold beer with my movie going experience. read more

I went here recently to watch a film with the missus. Good experience. I liked the power reclining seats (though I do second Amy H's observation about the fart sound upon movement), reserved seats (which the ticket taker can verify by scanning a QR code sent you your phone), sound, crisp picture quality, wide aisles and concessions (huge popcorn, not over-seasoned). The parking lot seemed a bit small but I was able to get a spot. Staff members were nice without being cloying. I'll return to this theater without reservation (or with reservations if I want to speed things up). read more

Those seats!!! This was my first time at AMC John R, and the two friends I went with had been there before, both more than a year ago. They were FLABBERGASTED when they saw both the renovated lobby and the new seats! Apparently it used to be a bit of a dump ... Those seats are awesome but also deadly - we went to see Star Trek Into Darkness 3D today, a very action-packed movie, but the comfy-ness of the seats was putting me to sleep! I loved that it seems like your row is the only row in the theater, too - you can't see the rows in front of you since you are slouched down. We sat in row D and the row-to-screen proximity was excellent. Their customer service was great too - I had bought tickets on Fandango with a free code I had, but had accidentally purchased them for yesterday rather than today. Fandango called the theater and they said I could exchange them for today's tickets, and I had no problem doing that. I will definitely be back to this theater! And perhaps with some caffeine ... :). read more

The movie itself was great, but unfortunately, the theater itself was very disappointing. To begin with, the theater lobby was dirty, and the staff members were not friendly (they were also sitting around, looking at their phones, instead of assisting customers). The bathrooms were disgusting (no toilet paper, empty soap dispensers, dirty sinks) and the majority of the pop machines were not working, or empty. On top of this, their ticket and concession prices were incredibly high!! Needless to say, we will not be visiting an AMC theater ever again. Gone are the old days, when an AMC Theater was the top of the line. So very sad. read more

This theater is definitely showing its age and lack of care. Went and saw Chosen Christmas there last week and you had to buy a certain seat. The seats were broken and the faux leather were peeling (as were most in theater 4). Why would you sell broken seats?! Never going back again. read more

This theater has great customer service. We bought tickets to a show on Fandango and my husband had a moment and we showed up to the wrong theater. We came here (the correct theater) and they gave us tickets to a later showing because we would have missed part of the movie. Overall, this theater is pretty nice. We used to go here all the time until the one on Gratiot (closer to home) finally got nicer seats. The bathrooms are always a little dirty though. I am not a huge fan of the parking. They have a small lot which is usually always full and a lot a little further away that's huge. It's really not THAT far but I usually go to the movies when it's cold or rainy and it just feels super far when you have to sadly walk by that closer lot haha. The parking had no effect on my 4 star review, just thought I'd mention it ;) read more

This theater is trying and I respect that. Slowly they are upgrading their theaters and adding new foods. They always seem to be understaffed which causes the establishment to be messy. This is a lower income area and the patrons reflect that. The parking is just pretty awful on weekends due to lack of spaces and idiots taking up too spots. read more
