SPECIAL PRIVILIGES SO im at an event here and was asked to move by the manager because the line was a hazard or blocking exit ways. I politely moved with my son. Another group walks up cutting the line and the lady said hey you need to go to the other side with the others waiting. I said to the manager wearing a purple button up id like to go stand back where I was because they cut line and he said they were a part of the other group. I said thats not true because I heard the lady tell him he had to go stand and there were other witnesses. I was treated like the manager was annoyed. So since he made special rules and I was asked to move and they were not i just left and stood back in line quietly. Its sad I have to remember the neighborhood I'm in and as a woman of color voicing my opinion could lead to worse in lines of law enforcement. read more

Clean & Large Aisles for sure! I visit this theater often, and don't mind going here because of the cleanliness of this theater. They must spend a lot of time cleaning the auditoriums. When they built this theater, they put in mind to add larger aisles so that way people can get in and out of the seat they are in. The only real issue is the location of this theater, if they went one more mile north, they would be on big beaver next to just about everything! If they went 2 miles south they'd be in clawson in a down town setting. They should have went to one of these better locations, maybe next time. read more

This place was pretty nice! I live down the street but had not been able to check it out until I went to a screening of The Maze Runner there this week. Chairs are nice and comfortable. The theater itself is smaller than I thought it would be. I've heard the "Epic Experience" is also very nice, though I have not been. Only tiny complaint is there seems to be only one bathroom (with multiple stalls) for each gender, though I may be wrong on that - I didn't check across the hallway to see if there was another. (therefore, when the screening got out, the line was so long I contemplated holding it and going home to use my own bathroom instead!) I'd come here again to see a movie, matinees are $6.50. *Side note: any reviews on this page that are before this summer-ish (summer 2014) are probably not for this theater, it JUST opened a few months ago. read more

It offers plenty of screens for lots of choices in movies, comfortable seating that rocks with cup holders, free refills on popcorn, clean environment, friendly staff, and reasonable prices as well as a simple rewards program. Went to go see a movie last night here. Went here because the time fit for when everyone could see the movie. The staff was very friendly. The place was clean and tidy. Mjr is known for the epic experience and the clap in the beginning of each movie. I would have given them a 5 star but the place is not up to par with other movie theaters. The seats are not recliner chair which are at other theaters. That is basically the standard now. Also, the price of the movie should reflect that and I felt like I paid the same amount as the if I went to a movie with recline seats. read more

MJR Troy is officially my favorite theater in the area. Whenever there is a movie I feel strongly about seeing in the theaters (which doesn't happen often) I check first to see whether it is playing on the Epic screen here. Granted, "Epic screen" is somewhat of a pretentious name. But it truly is a step up from your standard theater experience. Bigger and better sound, if not to quite the same degree of an IMAX. I also enjoy the non-Epic screens here, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a movie in them. The Rewards program here is decent. Nothing earth-shattering, but better than no rewards program at all. I appreciate the fact they recently raised the number of max points per movie from 20 to 40 (2 peeps to 4 peeps). Being a father of 2, this makes a difference. Prices are reasonable given the current movie theater climate. I usually come to the first showing of the day--for convenience moreso than price--but at $5.50 (+ $2 for the Epic screen) it's a totally reasonable price all the same. By the way, I am NOT a clapper, but I do appreciate the clappers. If you are an MJR customer you know what I am talking about. read more

Hands down my favorite theater even over imagine and star . Lots of legroom and comfy seats. The stadium seating is nice and roomy. Also, the arms raise up on the chairs. Perfect if you have a young child that wants to hug u during the movie. This theater makes others look junky. read more

My local cinema! My mum and I come here all the time and I really enjoy the feel of the place as well as the prices ;). We have military discounts so it's about 8.50 for us on most days. One thing I do have an issue with is the rowdy high school kids who come up here sometimes, for example, last time we came up there, my mother got splashed with water from a super soaker by some high school kids. The manager was really understanding and just gave us free tickets. I also like the MJR rewards programme which I suggest everyone to enroll in. After you spend a certain amount of money on tickets, you earn rewards. I've got several free tickets this way. Lastly, another complaint I have is the fact that it's so hard to get through to the cinema if you call and want to speak to someone or need customer service. Other than that, great comfortable seating and decent prices. It's more fun at MJR! read more

Pretty good. I went tonight for the first time, and the only thing that I'd honestly complain about was the temperature in Theater 14, where I saw my movie. When it was asked about, the issue was resolved...for a while. For the last 15 minutes of the movie, it was quite hot in there again. Everything else about it was fine. Bathrooms were very clean and well stocked, theater itself was clean, parking lot was nice, employee interaction was nice. I did not buy any concessions, but they allow you to bring in your own water or coffee, so I brought in my water from the car. All in all, minus the A/C issue, a satisfying moviegoing experience. read more

We paid extra to watch "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" in the MJR Epic Experience and we were not all that impressed. It did not sound any different than watching a movie at the theater we usually go to (MJR Waterford). The screen was definitely larger, which was a plus. I enjoy going to MJR Theaters and this one is nice, but I will pass on the MJR Epic Experience next time. read more

My fiancé and I usually prefer coming here to watch a movie because it's nice and quiet and we come anytime between 8 and 10pm. We have been coming here since it first opened up and it has gotten busier but is still not that busy. Bathrooms are always clean as are the rooms. Employees are friendly as well. Seats are nice and comfy and I love that they're blue . They have bar as well which is pretty cool. read more

I thought I was going to hate this tacky looking, frighteningly decorated mess and I could not have been more wrong. Sure, the incredibly ugly, cheap looking finishes such as the bubbling, improperly installed Miraflex wall panels (you guys really should contact your installers...) Is distracting, but this is one of the most cleanest, friendliest will maintained theaters I can remember going to in the last 20 years. The seats are great in all of its 16 theaters. There is a crap load of room to spread out; you never feel like you are sitting right on top of others. The digital sound and projection is top notch and the"Epic" screen, is just that. Prices are fair. I'm constantly earning rewards points for free stuff and everyone working here is extremely friendly. I really like that the theater is clean, things are not broken and shitty like I always find at the terrible Imagine theaters and they always have the Blockbusters. There is none of that horrible seat assignment bullshit that drives me insane. Sit wherever you want. First come, first serve. Every seat is a good one. Lastly, the location is awesome. Punks and sleezbags have not yet discovered this place to plague it with loitering, vandalism and whatnot. Great place, glad it's here. As long as it stays this way, I'll keep coming back. read more

Only thing i didn't like was their concession stands. Not the best food compared to others and they have bags for the popcorn not buckets. In the sake of disclosure, local area cinemas have a high bar to beat in AMC Star John R. This theatre supplies my benchmarks for a great experience: big parking lot, easy selection of tickets online, reclining seats, secure/reserved seating at a fair price. MJR Troy gets high marks for its cleanliness, modern feel, and outstanding 3D experience. From a traditional cinema experience, it's great but lacking reserved/comfy seating like its primary competitors. Thanks to its relative newness (opened in 2015/6), MJR Troy looks and feels a bit posh. The huge lobby is spotless and never crammed, even during the regular test screenings for Sony and other Hollywood powerhouses. Strangely, the building feels practically empty though every last parking spot is full. I'm not sure it has enough parking for all 16 screens. MJR Troy loses a star for no reserved seating. You get what you get, which makes popular shows and new releases less than desirable. Given a choice between John R's reclining seats and MJR's sports stadium-style flip seats, I'll take the AMC almost every time. I like the cozier feeling. The stadium seats get a bit uncomfortable for long movies and they sit on a severe angle, assuring a view over a tall person's head but possibly challenging for anyone with mobility difficulties to climb up or down. PROTIP: Show up early to get the best seating, just like the old days. No, really, I mean it. Admittedly some of the hometown ads shown before the coming attractions totally crack me up. They definitely feel like small scale marketing in a small town, which isn't a bad thing, merely an amusing aside in the slick polish of AMC theatres where you get inside looks at huge TV and musical productions. Concessions are tidy and though not exactly cheap (there's the money maker for MJR, right there), you get benefits like upgrades or free refills as part of a loyalty program. I've never had issues with dried out, old popcorn and flat or badly mixed pop here. I'll admit the whole singing along to the MJR jingle bemuses me as a non-native, but it sure gets the audience going! It's an experience to hear everyone clap while I looked around in confusion, trying to decide if an emcee would pop out and serenade us or this was mystically summoning the movie's beginning. PROTIP: //See IMAX movies here//. Viewing Doctor Strange here and at Star John R a day apart, I give the IMAX credit to MJR. The visuals felt sharper and crisper, the 3D experience more complete and thorough. Star John R's IMAX felt muddy and dark despite me sitting in nearly the same relative position in the theatre. The steeper screen angle definitely improved immersion -- I too was chasing Benedict Cumberbatch through New York and Kathmandu, admiring those gorgeous cheekbones and inimitable Cloak of Levitation (which /will/ be mine) in much higher resolution and detail. I'm glad I saw the movie at MJR Imax first because the mouthwatering men... err... detail really stood out. read more

The theaters are always clean. The seats and floors aren't sticky like some places are. The bathrooms are always clean. The concession stand is reasonably priced for a movie theater. Your really cant go wrong going here. There rewards program is another huge plus. You rack up points even faster now that you allowed to claim 4 tickets on your rewards card per day. During the summer they run a promotion for free popcorn on Tuesdays. This is huge bargain considering you can get any size and a free refill. It's not the flashiest theater, but it has all of the ambiance that it needs. Matinees are a fair price, and even full-rate fare for 3-D isn't as expensive as competing chains. Sound is full, image quality on screen is crisp, and chairs are comfy. Concessions are good, I tend to choose the combo with a drink and pretzel bites with dipping sauce. MJR is my favorite movie theatre brand. Besides the amazing name (who can hate on a company actually called Movies Just Right??) and the fact that they have a THEME SONG (and an interactive one, at that!!!), you get one free refill on any size popcorn and pop, which is unheard of and awesome. They've been open since July but the theatres still smell all leathery and new, which is cool... they must be getting cleaned really well. Comfy seats, although I'm Team AMC John R all the way... this would have only been 4 stars for that reason, except like I said, I love MJR. read more

I've lived in Troy all my life and it's amazing that they never had a movie theatre in the city until now (even then it's on the side opposite of Clawson boundary). Ever since my dad went to see Bourne Ultimatum at the MJR Sterling Heights location back in 2007, we stopped going to any other movie theater chain. MJR was one of the first chains to incorporate digital cinema via satellites and the staff keeps the place very clean. Ever since the Troy chain opened last July, we've been coming her. 5.50 movies prior to noon, an excellent rewards program where you can get free popcorn and drinks, an already established free popcorn deal every Tuesday, and the epic experience are all perks to an already alluring establishment. This is a solid movie theater. It just open last year, so all the seats are ultra comfortable and they play movies from all across the genre spectrum. However, both times I went, it was a ghost town. I can only surmise that it is because Star John R is pretty close and has better seats On top of the nice seats, they have a nice full service bar and even have a faux Imax theater called EPIC. If you live in the Troy area, this theater is a nice alternative to Star John R. read more

What can you honestly expect for a dollar movie at a theater? Its not disgusting, it just reminds me of a hole in the wall bar minus the alcohol. You've got your sticky floors, the pleasant must smell (get popcorn, it'll take away from that smell for you) and the bathrooms that look like they were around when the dinosaurs were. Its not like its unsanitary or should be condemned. The snack prices are good, you can see the movie you didnt want to pay 10x that to see, the staff is friendly, and I've been coming here since I was a kid. Newspaper showed movie as being in the nice vig HD theater. I called the theater to confirm, they confirmed the show as being in the big theater. Get to the theater, nope, it's in the horrible showbox. Seats are variable uncomfortable, worst sets I've been in a theater in twenty years.
