I actually remember coming here as a kid when visiting, so it was fun to come back. We also loved their $5 Tuesdays, which makes going to the movies even better. Came here for a movie and decided to get a beer before heading in. I ordered a Modelo, but the bartender started pouring Blue Moon instead. I caught the mistake and corrected her, and she quickly switched over--but I'm pretty sure she didn't change the glass or pour out what she had already started. She seemed very aloof and like she was intoxicated or high. The beer that I was given tasted like a weird, stale mix of Modelo and Blue Moon--not drinkable at all. On top of that, the beer itself tasted like it was old or had gone bad. Flat, funky, and just off. It also had a rancid aftertaste. Definitely not what you'd expect when you're paying premium prices at a theater bar. They charge $9.50 per beer and it tastes horrendous. The people I was with that got beer also said theirs tasted bad and like it was mixed or something was wrong with it. The bartender is either very negligent or there is something seriously wrong with their kegs or both. I usually don't leave reviews, but this was bad enough to ruin the whole experience. I hope they start paying more attention to quality and basic bar practices. They should also make sure their bartenders actually know what they're doing. read more

Drove a little over an hour to come here and watch Captain America 4 on Screen X. For those who don't know, Screen X projects the picture on the main screen on on two side screens in the theater. It isn't available in every scene but some...or so I'm told. The screens on the side didn't do anything the whole time, not sure if the projectors were broken or just off. I don't think it was false advertising but kind of felt like it. I stupidly didn't ask for a refund because I hate confrontation but was pretty disappointed and left before the movie was over. It was a Monday, theater was slow but if I'm paying extra for a certain theater experience, I expect to get it! Won't be coming back to this location but may try another in the future. The theater itself is outdated in areas but I think it gives this theater a unique charm I haven't seen since I was a kid. Staff was friendly, prices were fair and the seats were comfortable. So I've been going here for like ever but the last time I went the other day, we wanted to get some food. I got my popcorn and there were black specks on every piece. We told the lady at the food counter and she said there was nothing wrong with it and that it was always like that. It's not always like that, she lied. And then I had to wait forever for my hotdog. A group of my friends rented out a movie theater on a Friday night. So we were the only ones in the theater, which allowed us to social distance. This theater had plenty of parking and no lines at the concession stand. I will say that the popcorn wasn't the best I've ever had. And when you pay $10.60 for a medium popcorn and a medium fountain beverage- well seems a little steep but everything has gone up in price since Covid. The seating was great. Ticket prices are comparable to other areas theaters, but a perk is getting a free medium popcorn on Tuesdays just for having their free membership. The chairs are comfortable (not the ginormous, oversized reclining chairs that put me to sleep), but the theaters can be a bit on the cold side, so come prepared to freeze if you forgot a second layer. The MJR Westland Cinema is a great place to go. Access to the location is easy when heading north on North Wayne Road, but a little bit of a problem when heading south. I usually approach from the south but turning at one of the two lights nearby takes care of the problem. If you turn at either of the lights you can come up on entries and miss the mid-road mess. It's all on a curve so use caution. The place is brightly lit and the staff is engaged and interested. The older management staff is a little brusk and seems a bit heavy on the 'security ideal' side but we go there for fun and don't take much notice. They do serve alcohol here so be advised. The ticket prices are market so tend to be a little high. The snacks and such things are very expensive. It's usually a special event when we go so it is definitely a splurge. The entries to the theatres are neat and clean. The seats are comfortable and seating is normally available for all performances. The floors in the theaters, however, could use a good going over. I honestly love this theater. Sure, it's not as classy and flashy as emagine, but it offers a lot of the same great features, such as reclining seats and a full bar. Being from a different area, reclining seats were a luxury to me, and I'm not sure how I could ever go to a theater without them. I've been here probably about 7 times at least since moving to Westland a couple years ago. One thing that I love about the theater is that not as many people realize how amazing it is, so it is fairly easy to get seats to see a new movie that everyone HAS to see. The butter to put on your popcorn is a self-serve, so you can put as much butter as you wish (and I wish to put a lot of butter on it). They have the soda machines that everyone loves where flavors can be added to your drinks. The bathrooms are relatively clean and well maintained. read more

The sound is indeed a tad loud but it is the only thing I had to complain about and I am not complaining aloud or anything. I definitely hooked up with a reward card as I feel we will be visiting again. Concession rates are typical but the popcorn was good and my drink was not all ice. Good selection of candies which matters to my husband. Staff seemed very friendly and on the ball. Movie options were decent. It's big, bright, sparkling clean and newly opened last month and the joint was jumping today. The off on holiday crowd was taking advantage of the $5 a ticket bargain matinee pricing that runs daily from Noon till 6pm. They have special rates for Seniors, Children and Students. Along with shows before noon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at $4.25 a ticket. There is also a rewards card program in which one earns points that can then be used for fountain drinks, popcorn and movie tickets. The Email Club informs of upcoming events and showtimes. The screens are a high quality resolution. The sound is a wee bit too loud but bearable. The concession appeared to be typical of such. Rocker type seating is very comfortable. The staff was smiling and friendly. Although the parking lot was packed there seemed to be a consistent turnover of spaces. read more

Great place for a movie! Friendly people, clean location and good prices. They are not overcharging you like some spots I know. The seats are comfortable and the sound is good. So far I have not had any bad experiences with rude people talking. Let me take that back....There was a guy that decided to answer his phone and talk for a minute while the movie was playing. Emergency? No. He continued to watch the movie. This is not the theaters fault but only rude people. This occurs regularly at some locations and I cease going to those spots. Enough venting, Back to my review..... This is a great theater for a movie. It is smaller theaters so it is not as crowded as some of the bigger places. Popcorn is ok. Nachos....The Nachos are in the bag with cheese on the side. Very rarely do you find a place that serves them like they use to. One minus....No Liquor. I was actually informed by another friend about MJR but she lives far, then of course she pops the question -- IS THERE ANY CLOSE TO YOU? **Of course I google it (next) Westland!!! This will be my new viewing spot on Sundays and their prices are great too -- unlike other movie theater when you have to arrive before noon to get the $5 rate and anything after would go up to $7.50. HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING ON WEEEKENDS!!! Is there an app for that?! OF COURSE THERE IS -- check out app listed as "Movieticket" which there's only a 50 cent service fee for purchasing a head and you can pick up your ticket at the Kisok located on the left as you enter the movie building. Been here a couple times now and I must say it's quickly becoming my favorite theater. Why: $5 movies until 6:00, free popcorn refills, chairs that rock (no, really, they literally rock) and it's very clean. The theaters I've been in are all good sized. Maybe they do have the dinky theaters - which I always thought was weird. A super big screen and then like 5 rows of seats? If you're in the Westland area and want to take in a movie - go here. Lines were so long we skipped snacks - needs to be organized better with cash registers just ringing people, runners grabbing popcorn already in tubs... or express lines for popcorn and pop. Not well run. We go into theater 5 minutes before movie and it's filthy from last show. Carpets haven't been vacuumed in a long time- seats stained. They recline but are not recliners with feet up. Filthy not easy to get comfortable... and cost $2 more than state Wayne...:( read more

I am a 45 year old woman & got questioned on two separate occasions at this theater (which USED to be my favorite) by the obnoxious soda/candy security guard & no, I did not have ANY reason to be questioned other than I look younger than I am! I am done with this theater! When I was in the restroom in the late afternoon,mind you, all I could hear was his loud, obnoxious mouth running at all of the patrons! Absolutely ridiculous! The concessions are good, which is as important as anything when it comes to theatres. The seats are comfortable, the screens and sound are terrific; never have had a bad experience here. This was the place I brought my son for his first movie, and it went very well. Though I must say that, as he was only two and a half at the time, and that it was a matinee show that was not going to get filled due to the movie having been out a few weeks already, it would have been nice to have gotten him in at a discount of some sort. Rude manager ... I took my 5 year old to watch batman vs superman and they would not allow me to see the movie because he is under six years old .... They said he will be a disturbance because the movie is showing at 7pm .... We asked for her to make exception because my son was wearing his superman costume and ready to go ....She just said that it was policy !!! He cried all the way home and I had to explain that I can not leave work early in the day to take him during the hours that permits for him to go in !! I visited WESTLAND MJR on a Saturday night! Let me first say that the movie theater was disgusting! After spending nearly 60 bucks of course my chicken tenders were cold! Out of the five 3 were cold so I gave them to my son thinking he wouldn't notice! He said mom these are cold! I instructed him to take them back and ask can they cook 2 more! They told him no! I asked for the manager and he said unfortunately I can't cook anymore because you ate majority of them! Its only FIVE! I asked for the GM he comes out of the back and say they same thing! I didn't ask for all of them to be cooked over just the 2! With customer service at an all time low you would think he would just cook the two chicken tenders again! So I spent 10 bucks on 3 chicken tenders! I am going to call corporate on this matter! I WILL NEVER COME BACK! read more

Totally outdated movie theater. On the outside, it looks like a modern theater which may compete with the likes of AMC or Emagine. On the inside, you will take a trip back in time to the early 1990's. While I would usually like to take a trip back in the 1990's, from what I remember, the Canton Cinema 7 had this place beat even back then. I've only been to this theater one time, and that was only because they had the most convenient showing for me and a little hunny I took with me. I have had good experiences at MJR and have probably seen about 15 shows since this location opened. However, my last experience was awful. During X-Men Days of Future Past, other patrons were texting and three men behind our seats were having a nonstop conversation. We ended up leaving ten minutes into the show and received a refund. I will choose other locations due to poor crowds. read more
