All a matter of timing. A couple of Canadians escaping the snow here in Myrtle Beach for a golf vacation...shopping at Food Lion....a guy in front of us gives us a card and says he runs this restaurant just a few km from us in Calabash and asks us to give it a try. Well, we did just that tonight and was more than amazed! We shared a half chicken dinner, black beans and fried yucca (never had that before). The owners answered all of my questions about how things were cooked and what the heck is fried yucca! We ordered take out. The chicken was spiced just right but we also tried out all of the dips they had from mild to hot! Dips were fabulous but the chicken stands on it's own spicing! Tasted great with both a Spanish white wine and a Miller Lite! We will definitely be going back! read more

We have been down in the area visiting family for the week and have eaten at some very nice places but nothing compares to the homie feeling that mmm Que Rico gave my friends and I. The atmosphere is very quaint and peaceful and everything is extremely well kept and clean. The staff and owners of the place are the friendliest people we have encountered thus far while being down here. The food was fantastic and we will definitely make it a point to stop back in whenever we are down here. I strongly suggest to anyone who visits or lives in the area to stop in and try it as well. Wowzers. So good. I had a beef empanada which came with a chimichurri sauce that I dipped everything in. The empanada itself was very tasty; the sauce made it that much better. My husband had the steak sandwich, and the steak was CRAZY tender and flavorful. He also had a pork taco with avocado that was spiced and flavored without overwhelming the pork. We shared yucca and plantains and ate them all. Our 11 month old loved the chicken, beans, and rice we ordered for her. I started off getting her the white beans, but the woman who took our order (the owner?) helpfully warned me they were a little spicy so we switched to black. SO GOOD. We also ordered the guacamole which was delicious (again the owner ensured it wouldn't be made too spicy so that the baby could enjoy). The guac came with freshly fried chips - so light and crisp. Our little one decided to throw her placemat with a bunch of food on it (), but a man (also owner?) came over as we were cleaning up and told us it was a family place and that we didn't need to worry so much. Not only is the chicken mouth watering (I can't even put into words how tasty their seasoning is), but the restaurant is family run and owned by some of the sweetest people you will ever meet! The Peruvian beans were a new item for me - they were excellent as well! Great flavor with a little spice. I also had a beef empanada which was great! Go for the flan, stay for everything else! We tried a few items and all were great. You really can't go wrong when ordering, but our favorites (beyond the flan) were the beef burrito, roasted chicken, beef empanada, spinach & ricotta empanada, rice, and plantains. Wow! This chicken is very tasty and full of flavor!! The owner is a great guy and will explain the menu to you. Don't get intimidated! They have a variety of options; they are just presented with the menu overhead as opposed to in front of you. My mom and I split the half chicken with rice and beans and it was perfect! They also have some Peruvian treats like yucca, inca cola, and chicha morada in case you want to try something other than French fries and coca cola. We will be back for sure! read more

Definitely not your run of the mill food stop in Calabash. If you're looking for something that isn't fried fish, you need to try Mmm Que Rico. We've been a few times. The rotisserie chicken is delicious. Fries are really good. Other sides are average (rice, beans, yucca). Empanadas are all really flavorful, and home made; both the chicken and beef empanadas have raisins in them (it's a sweet surprise!), the spinach and ricotta is very good. Judging from the pictures I've seen I'll be giving the tacos a try the next time! All the sauces we've had are very good and fresh. And the owners are really friendly! read more

We tried this restaurant for the first time a few days ago, and it was so good that we've already gone back. The chicken is delicious. We chose the green hot sauce, and it's awesome. The yummy beef empanadas have just the right amount of fresh garlic, and the sauce is really tasty. The owners are delightful, and the atmosphere is definitely casual. Wow! What a hidden gem. All homemade food that melts in your mouth. The chicken is fantastic as you would expect but the empanadas are to die for. The Peruvians beans with rice is also top drawer. Poor Service. Cannot see this place making it. They had 1 table, party of 8 and could barely function. Waited 1 hour for a small takeout order. The owner is stingy with his "white meat" chicken. Needs to take a lesson in customer service. The chicken is mediocre, beans are from a can, rice is from a package & they serve mayo based dipping sauces.
