I ordered flowers online to be delivered to my mom after surgery. Delivery has gotten so expensive but $15 seemed reasonable. They had outstanding seasonal deals and even some on sale. I went with a seasonal bouquet in a pumpkin and it came out OUTSTANDING! Almost a week later and they were still in beautiful condition. I was so impressed. I've ordered a lot of flowers for delivery at a lot of different places but Moana did it the best! They followed up after I placed the order online and offered to notify me when delivered. Wow my 1st trip to Moana Nursery and I can't wait to come back! I was there to pick up my mumkin an amazing fundraiser they do with local nonprofits to raise money for them. Yet finding out they have pumpkins of all shapes and sizes for $1.99 I am AMAZED! What a deal. Speciality pumpkins are $4.99 if you need them but seriously their pumpkins are great. Lots of plants and friendly staff to assist with any and all gardening questions. So much fun decor and holiday themed items as well as plenty of parking. read more

6/9/2024 I'm really happy that they are open on Sundays. Also that they are right next store to the nursery.. Contemplating for weeks on how and who to help redesign the front yard.. Decided to DIY the design.. so we landed here.. Always wanted boulders as part of the scenery, and today was a jackpot of finding them.. A boulder is just not a rock.. but has to have the form and coloring.. Staff (Nate) was really helpful.. He marked the boulders to save for us.. Walked in with my boyfriend who's a first time grower because he was looking for some strawberries. No welcome in and no one asked to help us. I ended up getting a splinter and went to ask if they had some tweezers i could either buy or just use to pull it out. They said no, and i asked if there was some other way they think i could get it out and instead of a helpful answer or a simple "no, sorry." I got a snarky, "use your tweezers at home." by an older lady with a white cardigan who was leaning on the counter on her phone. This ruined the whole experience. Would not recommend here. The one on Moana has a much nicer staff who helped provide better information for what we went for. read more

The south location has a great selection and knowledgeable staff. Anne knew about what ornamental trees would do best in the heat and wind up in cold springs. That also means she knew what would not work. That's valuable. You won't end up with something that isn't suitable for your area. For my money the great selection of varieties and knowledgeable staff is worth the tiny bit more you may pay. read more

Great guy in a Farve Jersey was extremely helpful. Moriah was not kind or helpful. I just spent $209 on 2 Spider, 2 Snake and 2 Aloe plants. I asked Moriah if there were any pot options better than the plastic but not as expensive as the $80 pots I pulled the snake plants out of. She tersely said she didn't know and I'd just have to look around...Is there any level of service or accountability any more?! Truly pathetic. I'll go and spend my money anywhere else in the future and not deal with these unprofessional people that couldn't care less about helping us. People like Moriah are why local businesses loose customers to big retail and eventually fail. We are a local family that wanted to support local businesses and we were treated like garbage and then dismissed. Update: I got a call from the GM yesterday to discuss my visit. I'm confident that this incident was isolated and can be improved with additional training and coaching at the employee level. I'll say additionally that you'd never get this level of service or accountability with a big box retailer. I'm thoroughly impressed with how far management went to have a real conversation with me and address the issue. Thank you Moana Nursery! I'm looking forward to my next visit soon. read more

I have a landscaped yard but wanted a few large shrubs replaced that weren't looking good and add a couple new mature trees. The idea of removing the shrubs and digging large holes for the new trees was not something I was too motivated to do. I called Moana landscaping and they told me they were already booked up until September BUT instead of brushing me off or telling me to call someone else, they said they could fit me in as time and material in between their bigger jobs since I just needed a few things done to my yard. That day, Shannon, a PM with Moana came to my house and talked to me about what I wanted and within a few hrs she emailed me a list of plant/tree options that would work in my yard due to light needs. The team was at my house within a few weeks and the job was done quickly and cleanly within four hrs. It was so easy and convenient a few days after her team finished, I emailed Shannon and asked if I could get on their schedule to have more work done. After two separate jobs, 4 trees, 1 shrub, and 6 plants, my front and back yard look so much better. If you need a little help in the re-landscaping department, I highly recommend Moana. Last Monday we decided to drop in and pick out two trees. They had a good selection and we spent some time picking out the two trees we liked most. It took some time before we flagged someone down to get some help. The older gentlemen was very helpful. We purchased the two trees and decided to use their people to setup the delivery and planting of the two trees. The young man who rang us up told us that we were to expect a call to schedule delivery and planting within 24-48 hours. We were excited and counting down the hours. Thursday morning, we hadn't heard a thing so I decided to call them to see if they had an update. The young man who answered the phone, Easton (sp?), explained that they are very busy and the scheduler is backed up. (No apology and he clearly had a tone.) I explained that we were told we would get a call within 48 hours and asked when we should expect that call. He repeated that they were busy, and he's not sure when they would be able to set us up, as he doesn't do the scheduling and the guy who rang us up shouldn't have told us to expect a call within 48 hours. Ok... I said I guess I'll call you guys back in a few days? Sunday morning, I decided to call them to see if they had an update, since we hadn't heard a thing. Easton answers the phone. I explained that we hadn't heard a thing and we were curious to when we can expect a call. Again, same attitude, "we're busy, I don't do the scheduling and our scheduler works Monday through Friday." I asked if he could give me a ballpark as to when we can expect to hear something, anything, just an idea... which he snapped back explaining that the scheduler is currently setting up appointments for the end of June. Now, if we knew this when we bought the trees, we wouldn't have made the purchase as it's too late in the year to plant trees. I asked to speak with a manager. David was the manager on duty and the reason I'm giving them 3 stars, not 1. I explained the whole situation and he was very apologetic. I asked if we can cancel our order and he refunded our entire purchase. Thanks, David! I'm not too sure if I'll be back, but hopefully they can get some better people with better customer service skills to work their phones. If they had been upfront with us, we wouldn't have this bad taste in our mouths and would've been fine with waiting until next season. read more

Moana Nursery is a gem. I have been to their South Virginia location multiple times over the years, and I always leave impressed. Amazing selection of houseplants, decor, trees, soil, pots, and more. They even have a kitty or two roaming around calmly. The staff here, specifically Angela, are wonderful. Angela has answered many questions regarding house plant propagation methods over text, and has a great amount of knowledge. The store also has a rewards program. We are doing major work on our front yard and need to buy many plants - my first trip today I bought a Vesuvius plum tree and some sbc for planting. We really got into it with our planting/yard work today and I found myself back at Moana in the evening to buy a bunch of shrubs and another tree. Thankfully, Steve was there again to help me out as I tried to make my way through all of the plants they have. He is clearly the resident tree expert and he was so helpful!! I am not much for flowers, plants, trees and lawn decorations, but this place is pretty nice. They have a huge selection of all of the above and they assist you with what should grow and the location for best sun and temperature exposure. This nursery seems to be the location of choice for our new neighborhood nearby. Everyone has used them and everybody is happy with their experience. They aren't cheap, but you do get plants and stuff that are appropriate for the environment and they grow and fit well because they were properly selected for the area. The service is excellent and they take their time showing you what you are interested in and explain how it will fit into your planned use. Overall, this is a very good Nursery and we enjoyed shopping there! read more

Well just had a disappointing experience at Moana Nursery. We had called to let them know that our plants we purchased from them died last year a few months before the year was up. We had 2 of the 3 die, even though we bought the soil they recommended for them. Then this year we go in to replace them and are told that they can't do anything for us since it's past a year even though we had called to let them know earlier and told to bring them in. It was a month past when we came in and we haven't done any yard work since our patio is being redone and just finished. They didn't care and the customer service was less then being obsessed about customers. Today there are far better places that appreciate your business, this place is certainly not one of them. read more

When my house burned to the ground I went to Moana to get tubs to put large plants in to save for after construction. The lady had us pay a deposit and said we would get it back when we brought the containers back. We returned with our receipt and pots yesterday, and they rejected us. The rude manager says we were terribly mistaken. They do not do that with the plastic tubs. We told him what the lady said, and he told us we were wrong. He dismissed us and told us that we were out of luck. Terrible customer service. read more

I went into Moana Nursery looking for a very specific plant. After just a few seconds of having a lost look on my face, an employee offered to help me. The employee showed me the plant I was looking for and even offered some tips for caring for my Sansevieria. I took some extra time to look around at everything the nursery had to offer. In summation, they had everything to offer! All of their plants appeared to be in great health. The employees were knowledgeable and very helpful. Purchased $1400 worth of trees including delivery. For some reason another person's name and address was printed on my receipt that lives in Fernley (I live in Washoe Valley). After an hour past my delivery time and no trees I tried calling the store 4 times, no one answered, voice mail is full. Had a friend that lives across the street from the nursery go over there and ask about my delivery. Drivers were on their way to Fernley, had to be called back to deliver to ME in Washoe Valley. An hour later the trees arrive in an open bed truck. After driving these trees on the freeway openly in the wind and warm weather for over an hour, the maples were TOAST! Will not purchase from here again. Paid 3 times the price of other stores and this is what I got.... read more

Had a very good experience with Moana Nursery and their bulk ground material. I went to pick up disintegrated granite and it was $7 cheaper than the place down the street for a yard. With us refreshing our backyard planter area on the border of our yard, it was very affordable at $21 per yard of DG that I went back for more. We just came here today and got a fantastic deal on a fountain that looks great in our back yard - and we got it for a song. Looking back, the vast majority of our yard (plants and trees) are from Moana Nursery. Now, before you assume we must be wealthy beyond all imagination - we're not. There's a couple of things you should know about Moana Nursery. 1. The staff here is friendly and very knowledgable - much more so than you'll find at your big box stores. 2. Quality of items sold at Moana Nursery are much higher than your other shops around town. Pretty much everything at Moana is grown in a climate similar to ours - for those of you that don't know, almost all of Moana's plants and trees are grown in their own facility in Oregon and then shipped down here (yes - oddly enough there is a Moana Nursery in Oregon). Also 3. They do sales all the time. This is the most important thing to know. While our backyard was almost completely outfitted in Moana Nursery products, most of it was bought from anywhere between 35-75% off. The best time to buy stuff here is either early spring or fall (best) as you can get stuff on sale and if you are buying a lot they are very open to negotiation. 4. One year Warranty - if your plant dies within the first year, they will replace it - provided of course that you did water it and plant it correctly. And make sure you know the type of soil you are planting in and how acidic it is. For instance, many pine trees don't like the acidic soils in S. Reno. Seriously - go buy a tree at Lowes and one at Moana. You may pay more but in a year that Moana tree is going to look better and be healthier and stronger. I can't recommend Moana Nursery and the staff there enough. read more

I'm new to plants and gardening. For the past few years I have gone to your basic places for plants. Never once was I ever educated on picking the perfect plant. Usually it's a guessing game and I'm spending hours googling and trying to figure it out. But coming here and not buying what you wanted not because they didn't have it but because they knew it wasn't the right plant for my space. They ask questions and can also answer your questions. I didn't leave there with what I originally wanted but I left there extremely satisfied because I was educated about what I wanted vs what Mother Nature has in-store for my living situation. I left there with something similar to what I wanted and that fit my home environment. And for that I'm am extremely pleased! I will be going back to Moana Nursery! Not really thrilled about the customer service at Moana nursery. Unfortunately, no on working had much knowledge about their trees or could answer our questions. The worst part was when we asked about delivery. They told the people next to us free delivery to Carson but it was going to be 80-100$ for us to have it delivered a few miles down the road. We have been a long time customer but are very upset on our last purchase. Delivery division changed out a large beautiful weeping sequoia we selected for a substandard one. When we raised an issue after delivery their excuse was we were sold one that was not available for sale. Why no call before delivery about mix up then? Okay, I'd really like to say nice things about Moana. They are the closest nursery to my house and I'd love to support them. Their selection of plants is pretty good. On the downside, they are pricey, it is rare anyone knows anything about local gardening, and their gravel delivery is horrible. My last load of gravel, the driver ran over a shrub, hung himself up on a rock- which I had to dig him off of, then damaged both sides of the driveway. When I called and spoke to the manager he said, "they really only do curbside delivery..." not what I was told when I ordered. The nursery I love is Old Stone House, for gravel- Reno Rock is great! read more

Not a fan I went there to buy some more trees. I took a fruit tree I had bought there back because it died last summer. They would not honor their tree guarantee because I did not have my receipt even though their sticker was still on the tree. I drove out there from Dayton with the intention of buying more trees. Now I will not go there again. Also their prices are way too high. read more
