Shout out to Moana Nursery staff today We went to the Moana Nursery ladybug release for kids today and the kiddos had a scavenger hunt throughout the nursery and earned ladybug T-shirts, made a pinecone bird feeder , arranged a bouquet of flowers, saw caterpillars on milk weed , planted a Marigold in a pot to take home., learned about carnivorous plants and brought home a Venus flytrap, and received a little container of ladybugs to release in their garden. It was a hoot. Great job by Moana Nursery and their staff in educating kids about planting a gardening, the importance of ladybugs, value of carnivorous plants, creating floral arrangements, and making home bird treats. I stopped by Moana Nursery in mid-June with the goal of picking up a few veggie plants for the garden. I left with hot peppers, tomatoes, and four beautiful, gnat-free houseplants that I absolutely did not plan on but couldn't resist. On my last trip up to Reno, I finally stopped at Moana Nursery. I had heard that they have great selection of plants and garden art and accessories. Well, they do! They have beautiful bird feeders, candles, pots, indoor and outdoor home items and gorgeous plants. the people who work here are friendly and knowledgeable. I bought some vines here last week. They were on sale as many other plants were I assume bc it was Mothers Day weekend. On the way out a friendly worker looked at the tag and told me it needed lots of sun and shared some other care tips for the vine. I did not keep my receipt not thinking I would need it. I went home and looked up more on how to care for these particular vines. They're called orange creeper trumpet vines. Right away on the internet it states these vines are poisonous!? They should not be handled without gloves and to not smell the petals bc they can cause hallucinations??!!!? Whoa!? I was shocked to say the least. On the tag there is absolutely no warning?? I have a kid and animals so this was obviously not the plant for us. The tag only states its hardiness and zone and that it blooms beautiful magenta and orange blossoms in clusters. I contacted the nursery and they worked with me and I was able to exchange these vines for a different plant. But they said normally if it was on clearance that all sales are final. I understand but there should be some type of warning label. I didn't realize they even sold such poisonous plants? I wanted to let others know bc maybe they didn't realize this either? Still a beautiful store with beautiful plants and decorative items. Just be careful when buying vines. read more

We have been coming here off and on for a number of years. We have bought plants and pots from them and have always been satisfied with the quality and with their help in choosing the right item for our needs. My most recent use of their services was to get a plant repotted into a larger container - the poor thing was severely pot bound. Living in a high-rise condo, makes difficult and messy for me to do it myself. I brought the plant and the pot in and told them what I needed. A few days later, I was notified that it was done. The plant was perfectly done and looks a whole lot happier now. I feel it was $15 well spent just to not have to clean all the plant detritus out of my kitchen sink. They are a bit pricy and there are other places to get plants for a lower price other places, but you are paying for expertise and help with troubleshooting. Pro Tip #1 - sign up for the reward program. It's totally free, and you'll get notified of all their specials, of which there are many! Pro Tip #2 - take advantage of their "free thing" each season. Sometimes it's hummingbird nectar, sometimes it's food for the ducks at Virginia Lake, and right now it's seed for Chickadee Ridge! My favorite part though is their indoor plant selection. I love Moana nursery! The staff is amazing! I am from Sacramento and visit my family in Reno at least once a month. Moana has become a mandatory part of my visits. It is quality time that I spend with my niece. We never leave Moana without at least four plants. And plenty of pictures near the waterfall. I took a star off because anywhere I go I head straight to the markdowns to see if there are any plant babies I can save. My most recent trip on July 20th, we were informed that they don't have markdown plants anymore. I clearly saw some plants in need hidden behind a display. I truly hope that these plants aren't being thrown away instead of saved by plant enthusiasts like myself. The thought truly breaks my heart. During my last visit on Father's I purchased and revived three plants. They are in my office right now, thriving. I do hope this is temporary! Obsessed with Moana nursery! In the beginning of Covid, I remember this store got hit pretty hard since non essential stores had to close down.... When they were able to reopen, their selection was fairly limited and their prices were pretty high. I still tried to support them because they are a small business but their pricing just didn't make sense. I remember being so sad because a lot of my plants for from this store and I know how quality their plants are. NOW, their pricing is finally back to normal and their selection is better than ever!!! I have never had a problem with purchasing from here and have never seen any signs of disease or infections on any of their plants. What a beautiful nursery! The selection of plants is more diverse than Lowes and Home Depot. The employees are very friendly and helpful. There is actually a Plant Doctor at their Moana location. For someone like me that struggles keeping plants alive, I will be utilizing this service.There is also a gift center with garden and holiday decorations. While I was there they were putting out Halloween decorations. Can't wait to see what they'll have for Christmas! They currently have a sale on their plants. The Perennials are buy one get one free. This place saved the day last week for my moms birthday. After striking out twice at the Moana Nursery (which was great but more of a gardener's paradise) closest to my apartment and the florist down the street from it (that only had arrangements made to order in advance). I realized it might've been a taller order than I thought to find a fresh flower arrangement. And I'm getting older you know, I really wanna do things right and show my mom love and appreciation and thoughtfulness on her birthday, so I really didn't wanna pick up flowers at the grocery store. I wanted to do something a little more legit. But i was starting to feel like that wouldn't be possible on such short notice. BUT THEN.... I pulled into this Nursery and it was the absolute best of both worlds. Beautiful floral arrangements that are made to order, a gardener's paradise, AND fresh grab and go flowers! After chatting with the people at the register, I learned that they have a great rewards program- I signed up, of course‍‍. AND they always pack their grab n go fridge. They do fun arrangements every month. And keep things new and interesting. A little disappointed that the cashier made me believe that the mojito calocasia bulb I bought was viable. It was completely spongy and desiccated throughout the entire bulb. There is no firmness at all so it is completely DEAD. I can't return it neither because I am not local...and a $20 bulb is NOT exactly cheap. My advise....if you aren't sure then don't give advice. I enjoy coming to Moana Nursery for all my plant needs! First, the ambiance is just so relaxing both inside and out!
