[[HIGHLIGHT]]Gorgeous setting![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Fantastic service! Onolicious food! Luke took exceptional care of us, and explained the nuances of the dishes and answered all our questions. Everything was delicious. The standout really was the scallops in the XO sauce. WOW! Was that fantastic! Scallops melted in your mouth and you want to lick the plate of the XO sauce. The beef cheeks are good size so we took one home for later.. .and it was still tender and flavorful 2 days later when we had it for breakfast on the side of our scrambled eggs. That's when you know something is really good is if it tastes good later. Will definitely be back.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Come to Moana if you're looking for a beautiful open aired beachside view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food comes second after the ambience. Everything was solid but pretty overpriced and felt the portions for the drinks especially were very small. Luckily the staff was nice enough to give a free refill after asking. Food: 7/10 Service: 10/10 Ambience: 10/10

We gave Moana a second chance we are glad we did! I put on my OpenTable comments not to rush us and it really helped. Good: [[HIGHLIGHT]]we got an excellent ocean front table and the weather was perfect.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] From the abalone appetizer to the Caesar salad to the pork chop and lobster dish, all the food was outstanding. The chopped mushrooms and edamame under the lemon foam with the abalone was probably my favorite bit. Hubs was pork chop!! (8 oz) Also the anchovies did not seem canned on the salad, really great. Other stuff: after the abalone the waitress took my sauce covered fork out of the 4 o'clock position and put it on the bare wood table. At that point I asked for fresh utensils and she gladly provided them at the time and onwards. She even wiped her mess off the table. The wine did not come in time for the appetizer, faux pas. I heard other waiters giving a full rundown on the menu that we did not get. Cracked pepper was not offered for the salad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]BUT the ambiance was perfect, service nearly perfect and well timed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sunset and full moon completed our great experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I highly recommend Moana!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is unbeatable - - right on the ocean. An open air restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is phenomenal. The five of us had several different fish dishes. Don't eat too much because you're going to want to have one or more of the desserts. Again, the service was unbeatable; very knowledgeable, there when we needed them.

Service was perfect, food was tasty, [[HIGHLIGHT]]view was amazing[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], [[HIGHLIGHT]]Live music was the perfect volume.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Roasted potatoes side was outstanding and more than enough for two. Prawns were a great app and the snapper and ahi were outstanding entrees. I would pass on the rice next time because the potatoes were so good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The combination of romantic ambiance, view, service, and food is hard to beat and made for a memorable evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Carrot and beet salad. I would have preferred this a little more roasted but it still was very tasty and fresh!

I'll start with what was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location overall is incredible. Really top notch resort where all the details have been thought through. You can tell this is a 3 Michelin spot everywhere you look. Super cool and feels great to be at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We first got drinks at Shipwrecks bar which was tasty and a cool vibe sitting in the sand near the boat. We then headed over to Moana where we had reservations to celebrate our anniversary. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our table seemed like the best in the house and was outside near the water with an amazing view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was prompt and talkative in a good way, explaining each dish and sharing his recommendations. We had ribs and abalone to start, the ribs were great but unfortunately the albacore was tough and didn't seem prepared well. For mains we had the snapper which was delicious. Dessert of the Barley Ice cream Sunday was a risk that we're glad we took! It was different for sure but super tasty. Really the main thing we were surprised and disappointed by was no mention of "Happy Anniversary". They had asked us when we booked the table if we were celebrating anything, so we told them, the same with the hostess who seated us and also asked the same question (although shouldn't she have known?). We exchanged cards at the table and had them sitting there next to our plates, but our server never asked about them, was curious as if we were celebrating anything, or seemed to have received the message it was a special day. I didn't even need any complimentary dessert or drink, just would expect the thoughtfulness of the service to match the careful thought that clearly has gone into the rest of the restaurant and resort as a whole. Overall I would recommend Moana and hope to go back someday, with the feedback to ask a little more about each guest in order to give even an even better experience.

Came to Moana for our 30th anniversary dinner and it was perfect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting, the food, and the service were all on point and so well thought out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was wonderful to be presented with a complimentary glass of champagne, and from that through the oysters and prawns, to the main courses (the beef cheeks were amazing), then a lovely anniversary dessert and the pineapple upside down cake finisher, we treasured every bite. Definitely a meal to remember.

Beautiful newly reopened and renovated restaurant giving awesome, high-end Hawaiian vibes. Along with the hotel, the restaurant was destroyed by a tsunami three years ago and reopened in July 2023 by Rosewood resorts. Great care was taken to create a stunning space that speaks to the local heritage and takes advantage of its oceanfront location. Staff is professional and friendly and efficient. Perhaps it wasn't necessary to read through the menu with me but it was a sweet gesture. Food was flawless and fresh. Cocktails were good. We visited the restaurant in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a predictably quiet time, but the restaurant and resort were exceptionally empty. It may take time for the place to find its footing and really bring in their target demographic given that the restaurant and resort are likely the most expensive on the island. As a restaurant guest, I didn't feel I quite got value for the money spent. Nothing wrong just not special enough to justify the expense for us.

Service is a bit uneven. My faves were kabocha with miso glaze, prawns, Hokkaido scallops and eggs Benedict on ulu cake.

In September, we had a very close friend (hānai aunty) visiting with us from New Jersey. She had visited Hawaii before with us but was now using a walker and we were a little concerned about the layout at KVR and the sandy village paths to and from Moana Restaurant and the surrounding property. We arrived early, so our friend wanted to use her walker and attempt to walk around the circle to visit the gift shop before going to dinner. So, we gave it a try. We had no issues with using the walker in the sand as long as we stayed in the middle of the pathway. On the path to Moana Restaurant a man (also using a walker) said hello and challenged our friend to a race. Not sure if he was a resort guest or a visiting local but that friendly greeting set the tone for the evening. The wait staff had received the notes we sent about our friend and her issues with ambulation and had chosen a table for us with a great view. The Moana Bartender noticed we were struggling a little to get to the bar and offered to bring drinks to us at the patio surrounding the restaurant. Again, the kindness of staff and attention to detail really set the tone. Once seated for dinner, we decided to order a variety of entrees and appetizers to share "family style." We shared the Grilled Octopus appetizer, Tomato and Strawberry Salad, the Wagyu (which was excellent!), BBQ Eggplant and Hawaiian Snapper Entrees but our favorite, hands down, was a side dish of Ali'i Mushrooms. Most of us "try" to eat healthy. So, we skipped dessert. All of the dishes were amazing and it was a treat to be able to actually see the chef preparing some of the dishes from our table. But what made this the perfect night for us were the present day KVR employees. From the second the valet took our car, to the final Alohas from staff as we left, we were treated as if we were the only guests on the property. And that experience is priceless. We sat right by the kitchen and were able to watch them make our dinner. The chef came out and personally spoke to us about our dinner. I got the vegetarian cauliflower dish the adobo sauce was hands down one of the best sauces I've ever had, my husband got the burger medium rare and he said it was perfect and the fries were crispy, my daughter got the kids slider and thought they were delicious (easy could of fed two kiddos with a smaller appetite), my other daughter had the butter noodles which is on the menu but she's super picky and they accommodated her without a blink, for our youngest we got a side of fruit it was amazing fresh fruit with a good variety. At the end another chef came by and asked if our girls would enjoy dessert, we got the mango and coconut lime sorbet. They were so luscious , creamy, and full of flavor. We sat "inside" it was an open concept with no doors or window to the restaurant. The kitchen had screens to keep the bugs out. There was gentle music playing in the background. Most places we've been the music has been so loud we can't hear each other or think. It was right on the ocean so we got to listen to the ocean waves and watch them crash on the shore. If I could give them more stars I would.

Most of the nearby restaurants close to our hotel were either closing soon or offered heavier meals, so I was happy to come across Aloha Wine Bar online. Despite the name, it has an interesting food menu in addition to their drinks. We were able to walk over from the hotel and were glad to see a few other customers there without it feeling overly busy, so we were able to sit right away. We ordered a few of drinks, some sushi dishes to share that really hit the spot, and a flatbread pizza to round everything out. The bartender (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was super friendly, and it was clear he enjoyed chatting and engaging with the customers. That always adds to the experience :) If I "had to" complain about anything, it would be that the pizza took quite a while to come out compared to the drinks and other food. That being said, it wasn't a dealbreaker and we didn't mind much since we were not in a rush. We were on vacation, after all. Tbh I'm not sure when we will make it back to Big Island or to this particular area, but if/when we do, I would absolutely consider coming back to try more of their food and drinks. The restaurant is located inside the Mauna Kea Resort and just above the beautiful Mauna Kea Beach. They have a nearby location where you can see Manta Rays at night. The service is always very good at this restaurant and the food is amazing. During my last trip I got many fish dishes in Hawaii and they didn't exactly impress me so this trip I am going for other proteins. I got the bone in New York Strip and my wife got the dried aged pork chop. Our server recommended the pork chop to be cook medium and I already knew it'll be pretty good. My ribeye was very good. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare and it comes with a side of purple sweet mashed potato. However, my wife's pork chop was the most impressive dish. It was tender, sweet, and savory. I had some of her pork chop and I wish I ordered one too. I stripped that pork chop bone clean. The dessert was pretty good but I do wish there were other options. We ordered the Soufflé and the Chocolate Mille-Feuille. The Soufflé was very good but the Chocolate Mille-Feuille was just ok. Our server did recommended us to get the Bombe Alaska but I already tried it during my last trip. After dinner we all went to the cliff to watch the Manta Rays. The kids especially enjoyed this activity. I am not sure when I'll return to the Big Island but if I do, I'll probably be visiting Manta again.

We planned this evening well in advance, making reservations over a month ago and explicitly noting the milestone celebration. My husband even called ahead of time to confirm, and the staff assured us they would do something special for them. The letdown began right at arrival. The hostess was passive and asked our table, "Who is celebrating their anniversary?" Given that our party consisted of two couples under 40 and my in-laws, it felt incredibly unobservant and careless for a luxury resort host team. Later in the meal, my husband quietly asked our server if anything special was planned for the occasion, only to be told, "No, we don't do that." Beyond a casual, passing verbal acknowledgment, absolutely nothing was done. The only true highlight of the evening was the beautiful view. Our server was friendly, though a bit awkward, but the kitchen and bar execution were highly disappointing: * **The Drinks:** Highly overpriced for the size, lacking in flavor, and tasted noticeably watered down. * **The Pacing:** While thankfully, we were in no rush, it took a tremendous amount of time to receive our appetizers and salads, though the entrees did arrive quickly after. * **The Food:** Every dish was exceptionally expensive, yet the portion sizes were minuscule and entirely flavorless. The Caesar salad, in particular, had a very strange, off-putting flavor profile. * **Dessert:** We ordered the $17 cheesecake, which was absolutely tiny. For a premium dining experience on the coast at a luxury resort, you expect a balance of ambiance, culinary excellence, and attentive service. While Manta has the ambiance down, the food and hospitality were entirely lacking. We left the restaurant hungry, deeply disappointed, and feeling that our family's major milestone deserved a much higher level of care than what we received.

When I came into the shop, the owner was helping the only other customer there. I walked around and found some bottles of what I was looking for in the back, where a woman was wrapping baskets. She made no eye contact with me, and didn't offer a greeting. I remained in the back for over five minutes, repeatedly looking at her and trying to get her attention, but she refused to engage. I returned to the front, where the owner had finished cashing out that one customer and was chatting with him. He made no acknowledgement of my existence for at least another five minutes. The other customer then left and the owner finally asked what he could do for me. I said that I just wanted some help. He told me that it was a very busy time of year (note: at this point I was the only customer in the shop, previously there were two, including myself), and that I need to have patience. This felt like a highly passive aggressive thing to say. But I desperately wanted a certain liqueur for my husband, so I ignored the comment and checked out the bottles. He left me in the back to help another customer. By the time I returned to the cash register with my bottle of choice, he had just started to cash her out. A "she's been waiting, would it be okay if I assist her" might have been nice and what I would have done but I let that slide too. The customer left and he started cashing me out. Being one who's both honest and upfront, I told him that I understand both being busy and patient, I'm an elementary school teacher with Hawai'i DOE; the customer service was deeply lacking, and that I had thought the woman in the back didn't even work there, but rather was a volunteer. He repeated his line about it being a busy time of year (at this point I think there were three customers, including myself, but not including the distributor near the register). I said something to the effect of, "too busy wrapping baskets to even greet a customer," and reminded him of my very busy job. The owner then asked me to leave. As I was walking out I heard him tell the distributor that this had never happened before, but if you look through previous reviews, there are complaints about this woman. Ultimately the owner did me a huge favor. The bottle I was going to buy retails for $45-$52, he was selling it for $79. Another bottle that he was listing for $87, a competitor had for $64. Extremely greedy in addition to rude? All of DOE will hear about this experience!

Bianca and the entire staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They made us feel relaxed and well taken care of throughout the evening without ever being intrusive. The food was outstanding. Our table enjoyed the day boat catch, macadamia nut-crusted fish, Caesar salad, beet salad with goat cheese, cucumber salad, smoked taro hummus, and desserts including sorbet and seasonal ice cream. Every dish was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. The combination of incredible food, gracious service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere made for a memorable family dinner. A heartfelt thank you to Bianca and the entire Merriman's team for making our evening so special. We can't wait to return on our next visit to the Big Island.

I am so happy that my husband & I got to experience this restaurant while in Hawai'i. For starters, we ordered their special lobster salad (with lobster, mango, avocado, and pickled hearts of palm) and their mushroom side dish. Both were absolutely packed with flavor, and the lobster salad especially included very new flavors for us both. The mushrooms were out of this WORLD! For entrees, we ordered the spicy lobster ravioli and their mushroom side curried macadamia nut fish (swordfish). Each bite was a little taste of fishy heaven for both dishes. We are so happy with our visit here, and cannot wait for the opportunity to come back and try more amazing, home-grown food. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

We were only $20 short of reaching the $300 spending requirement for the free gifts, which should speak to how frequently we visited and how much money we spent at this store. Despite being repeat customers, every visit was met with the same poor customer service. All of the cashiers who helped us were rude, curt, and could not even acknowledge the smallest greetings. The customer service was so unpleasant that it was not worth the experience. The food is not amazing, the prices are not great, and the only thing this place has is convenience--nothing more to offer. In one instance, I got a burger and a black milk tea with boba. I specifically told the cashier that I wanted boba, but she did not ring it up. When I inquired about the missing boba, a young employee addressed the matter with the cashier. They talked, and I said that if it cost more, I could pay for it. She rang up the boba with zero acknowledgment of her mistake. Nothing came out of her mouth. Complete silence. In another instance, I asked a cashier what the gifts were if we reached $300 in purchases. She did not say a word. She simply reached for a card with images of the gifts and placed it on the opposite side of where I was standing. She said nothing. I asked if those were the gifts, and she said yes. She then pulled out her phone while I looked at the card, and I simply said, "Okay, thank you." These are just a few examples of the many disturbing encounters we had with all of the cashiers. While on vacation in a tourist area, this is not the type of conduct or customer service one expects to experience. It was disturbing, and we dreaded going there despite the convenience.
