They simply don't listen to what you ask them to do. I went in for a simple oil change and told them to only do my oil absolutely nothing else. I'm specifically talking about the terrible "windshield washer fluid" (water) they fill you up with. I told them not to add that because it is going to be below freezing around here, they didn't listen and now I haven't been able to use my wipers/fluid for a week because they can't listen to basic directions read more

Went in for an oil change and asked if I could get my battery done under warranty (they put one in less than 2 years ago) he said no problem and next thing I know I'm paying full price for the same battery that couldn't even last 2 years he did give me a discount on the oil change but this is unacceptable if you like getting ripped off this is the place to go read more

How times have changed. I went for an oil change and was refused service. The young white man claimed my car was too low and it would scrape. And yet there was an Acura Integra, with ~5.1 inches of ground clearance, in the bay ahead of me. That's pretty much what I have for ground clearance. I know because I have a crazy steep driveway and getting up and down it is kind of important (there's no on street parking). And yet I was able to get my oil changed at this exact location last January 12, 2022. I even have a sticker in the windshield to remind me. However, this allegedly sharp eye young white man failed to see that too. And my other car had its oil changed here too, on May 7, 2022. Same ground clearance. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the problem isn't with the ground clearance of any of my cars but probably in who is driving the cars. Presumably whoever was in that Acura was probably their appropriate demographic. read more

I also experienced the very rude technician name Louis. I asked him if he could put air in my tires and asked if he could put it to 36 pounds. My light always goes out when all four tire pressures match. It didnt this time, so I politely asked if all the pressures were at 36. He said, "you saw me do it" I said, "how can I see if I am in the car" He said, " get out and look then." Am I just supposed get out and stare at tires with no gauge. It was a simple question. I drove right to Firestone in North Reading and they added air to one tire and the light went out. I wont go back to Vavoline North Reading until Louis is gone. read more

DO NOT bring your car here! My husband brought his Audi Q5 in for a routine oil change and they ruined his engine! One of the technicians didn't replace a part and due to their error the engine is junk. They are unwilling to take any responsibility for their error and even came to our house , using our address they had on file, and harassed us. Jamie the manager is extremely unprofessional and lacks the skills necessary to run an efficient establishment. I would steer clear of this place. I wasn't able to post unless I gave it one star but I give it ZERO After consulting an attorney my case was taken and Valvoline paid to have my engine replaced at my Audi dealer. This was by far the worst oil change experience I have ever had. I am a teenage girl and they thought that it was okay to take advantage of my friend and I, and tell us that the car only took European Synthetic Oil. Prior to this oil change, I got an oil change somewhere else, and it cost $70, and nothing was said about European Synthetic Oil. The "manager" Hailey, was one of the rudest employees I have ever had an encounter with. Meanwhile, the receipt that she gave us stated that someone named Josh is the manager is the manager at the North Reading location. I will never return here again whether or not they care about getting my business, I want them to know that they made my experience awful and hope that they enjoy ripping people off and taking advantage of teenagers. read more

Got there with in fifteen minutes they told me another Volvo same make got there before me and they used the last filter for my XC 60 Volvo. I knew they were full of it. DO NOT GO HERE. Team is filled with negligent employees. I went into the location for a simple oil change. About three weeks later, my engine light came on. I brought my car to the dealership for the diagnosis. The Dealership found that the air cleaner box was not sealed properly and that the air filter was put in the wrong way, causing dirt to flow into the mass air flow sensor. Basically they took out my air filter to "check" it, put it back in the wrong way, and then didn't properly connect it to the filtration system causing me 350$ in repairs after their 90$ oil change. They clearly can not take responsibility for their actions and are negligent of their work. read more

I have frequented this location a dozen times over the past several years so I am quite used to the high pricing and the way they try to sell you things you don't need. But today, the young man checking me in in my bay was a rude. He even talked bad about me to the guys working on my car. Pretentious and condescending. He wouldn't even stick the reminder sticker on my window. I will never subject myself to this kind of treatment again no matter how convenient their over priced oil is. Firestone across the street has my exclusive business now. The treatment of a customer who regularly pays between $70- $100 is worth trying to keep over his ego. He does not have the integrity of the company as a priority. To complain that a little dust fell out of the engine filter when I turned it upside down and asked me if I'm going to clean it up. The two times I went to Valvoline they left my oil cap off I want to get my my tires got my tires rotated and they charged me $70 which is unheard of I want to recommend this to a friend to go to Valvoline in North Reading is the worst. I have been going here for a couple years now and for the most part the customer service was fine, with the exception of one woman. She is relatively rude and condescending even when her information is incorrect. I got used to it, and it wasn't so bad because I knew what to expect. THEN today I went in with a new car. I was slowly driving into the bay and a DIFFERENT woman was guiding me in and screamed SLOW DOWN like I was doing 30mph into the bay. She shakes her head in disgust and comes over to my window. She asks me in a really snarky way if I am here for an oil change, and I say yes. She says, "have you ever been here before with this vehicle?" I reply, "no, not with this vehicle." then she again says "HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE WITH THIS VEHICLE!?" I then reply sternly, "NO, NOT WITH THIS VEHICLE." She asks for my registration, which I realize I had left at home like a bozo, and I said "I am sorry I guess I will have to come back," then she asks, "do you want to just give me the information?" I say, "Oh we can do that?" "Yeah," in a disgusted voice. She says next, "I am just going to open your door to check the vin."(which is on the dash.) As soon as I say ok and reach for the unlock button, she again in a super rude tone says "IT'S LOCKED." I say "YEAH, I know." I then say to her, "you know I could just not get an oil change if that's good for you.", and she says "whatever you want." So I say, "yeah I am all set, this is awful customer service." She shakes her head and I can see her talking to the other empolyees near the front of my car most likely mocking me, and then I drive away. I have worked a lot of my life in customer service and to be treated this way by somebody is absolutely disgusting, and I would never talk to any customer like that, especially unprovoked. Ok full disclosure I didn't get oil change, but was asked if I wanted one also. But that said I came for the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness windshield wipers. Had called to see if blades in stock and told them my make and year of vehicle and what size of blades I wanted, they check their stock while I waited on phone. Jamie was awesome, he had looked up my vehicle to make sure I had the right size and put the wipes aside for me. upon arrival I was guided to drive my car into shop bay, he kept eye contact while speaking with me. Two other gentleman put the wipers on while Jamie filled out paperwork on a computer, sent my receipt to my email..What a pleasant experience , agree with the other reviewers warm & welcoming and I was having a portion of price donated to a great cause!! This place could have gotten more stars, but in the end a few things annoy me. Lets start with the good things. Good #1 - They are quick - even when there are a few cars lined up waiting for service, they usually push them through at a good clip. Good #2 - You don't have to get out of your car. This is different than what they do at Jiffy Lube. I hate having to get out of my car. Now to the annoying things. Annoying #1 - The upsell. Stop trying to sell me extra crap. If I wanted more than an oil change, I'd ask for it. Annoying #2 - At one point I actually asked them for more than an oil change ( a differential fluid change ) and they didn't have the right tool to do it for my vehicle. I own a Ford SUV made in the last 3 years. Come on - how more common can you get? So really, they are just middle of the road, but I'll keep going there because they are slightly more convenient than going to Jiffy Lube, and WAY more convenient than going to a dealer. At least until my wife lets me put the lift in my garage... read more

First time having a full synthetic oil change and tire rotation. They acted professional and curious. Glad I tried them out.

First time at gal line and was surprised to just roll in and have my oil swapped out while I waited. It took about 15 minutes to be done. Employees were friendly and welcoming. The only negative I have is that full synthetic cost me nearly $100. We generally go to pep boys. Over there is about $75, however when they have a coupon they always scan one in for me so it's about $60. The major difference there is I almost always have to drop the car off and pick up later since they get so busy. read more

The woman and older gentleman that were working were so incredibly nice! The younger kid was so rude! I want to love this place because of how nice the woman and older guy were, and the fact that you can drive up and get your oil changed without getting out of the car.. but after they started the process... she kept saying its the "full synthetic oil" I have a BMW x3, and I know it needs to be synthetic, but I have always had "mobile 1 synthetic" so I said "yeah mobile 1" and she was like "oh no this is our own synthetic... its a lot better..." which I know actually means "ALOT MORE EXPENSIVE" So I asked... my oil chang costed 107 DOLLARS! I have never in my entire life had to pay more than 80. I was livid. I wanted to yell stop and just drive away... ugh! I give it two because of the two friendly people. read more

Be careful if you go on the weekend. I'm pretty sure they didn't change my oil. I have a big vehicle and the filter isn't underneath the van, it's more up top. So they gathered around and talked to each other. Normally, there would be a pull to loosen the filter. Nothing this time. They didn't fill it with oil and the guy who shows me the dipstick to show clean oil, showed me 1/2 an inch of it. They didn't bother to check the air filter. This was on 9/09/19. Yesterday, 10/8 I brought it to a shop. He showed me a filthy air filter and also showed me the oil he drained- it was like mud- very dirty. The crew was not a nice group of people. The crew during the week is great( I brought my other 2 cars there in the past )- I will never go back. Trust is everything and though I have no absolute proof, I know they robbed me of 100.00 this time around. Think twice!! read more

Had an oil change on my Honda Accord yesterday. It was my first time there and was extremely pleased with the service and knowledge of the entire North Reading staff. Hayley helped as soon as I pulled in and could not have been nicer and helpful. Compared to the excessive long wait at the dealership, it was a joy to be serviced so fast and efficiently. Usually I don't have any issues at Valvoline. I usually go to Woburn but this is my 2nd time at this location. The first time last summer was great. This one....not so much. The guy "helping me" was less than friendly. No smile. Nothing more than the bare minimum. Mumbled the whole time. Obviously not happy at his job. Usually they offer me a coupon or ask if I have one, I did and had to tell him that AFTER he gave me a total. I told him my tire light was still on, he said "it stays on for 2 miles". No guy, it doesn't. It goes off as soon as all 5 tires are the same (spare included). I have done this more than once. So he didn't know even his facts, even after I said that when I do it that's not the case. But I'm a girl, so I must not know - that's how I felt. Needless to say, my tire light is STILL on 24 hours later. I will not be returning to this location. read more

I'd never heard of Valvoline oil change centers until I moved out to Eastern MA. Appropriately enough, they're priced for this area. $40 for the low end price change, plus as the previous reviewers commented, the constant push to upsell. I left here with a $230 bill. I really like how they have Manufacturer's reccomended services in their computer, so if you care a lot about your car, this place is as good as going to the dealers. They also provide a free coupon booklet on your 1st visit, which is needed considering the price. Overall, this place is great if your looking to spend the money. If you have a crappier car that you don't really care about, you can get an oil change much cheaper at Walmart or Jiffy Lube. If your willing to spend the money, I think this place is top notch. read more

Valvoline should be ashamed of themselves My daughter, who admittedly should have done her reaserch before hand went to North Reading Valvoline for an oil change, in her 2008 Acura she recently purchased. She entered the bay, and she said she needed an oil change. They asked sythtic or regular, which she did not know the answer to. She called me and asked. I said I did not know, and needed to do some reasearch on it, and to tell them she would return after doing so. She called me back, & said they already drained her oil. I said let me do some reasearch, and call back By the time I called her back, they had told her she needed synthetic, and had already done the oil change, & charged her $85. Turns out A.) She did not need synthetic B.) Now that she got Synthetic she cannot change back. C.) I called Midas next door, who said the same synthetic oil change would be $60. So I figured I would advise the N.R. community and surrounding towns to avoid this unscrupulous buisness read more

They're indeed very quick. There was some up-selling going on, but nothing serious, at least not worse than most of the service places I've been to. Their calling the add-on stuff "on sale" is a bit laughable though, if you know how much they really cost, but again, it's all business I guess. Their mechanic didn't know how to reset the Nissan's oil change message, but the assistant manager quickly helped me to figure it out. I was just being a little lazy (not my car), but they do feel like sincerely wanting to help. Overall it's a good experience, pretty similar to other Valvoline places I've been to. read more

I don't usually write reviews but this was a poor experience. The woman in my bay was rude and snippy and acted like it was an inconvenience to her that I showed up. I requested synthetic oil and was told it would be 79.99. Expensive yes, but I was expecting it. I am aware that my truck requires 8 quarts of oil, which is apparently 2 quarts more than the 6 that the 79.99 covers. Because I required 8 qts my price ballooned to a whopping 127.00, apparently 2 qts of oil cost 47 bucks. I was hesitant at that point but was informed that they were already halfway through the oil change. On top of that they attempt to sell you all kinds of junk you don't need "based on car fax". I decided to go here instead of driving to the dealership to get my oil changed and hopefully save some money! I am so pleased with their quick service and great customer service. You stay in your vehicle, and they walk you through every stage, and it is only 10-15 minutes. I ended up needed to air filters, but with the $10 coupon I had, and he gave me another $10 off, it was under $100! Which made my wallet quite happy! Highly recommend! read more

I paid for a coolant flush in my 2004 Ram 1500. My coolant is pink and reddish in color. Theirs is green and supposedly compatible with my vehicle. After I left I checked the coolant and noticed it was still pink fluid in the overflow container. After many more miles of driving the coolant never turned to bright green which is the color of their product. They claim that they never get it all out, so what's the use of a flush. The Radiator holds more and it would be evident in the overflow container after diluting . So this makes fraud likely. read more

I have to agree with the prior reviewer. Valvoline is the place to go, but could be so much better. They are quick, with three bays at this location, I've never been more than "next" in line. What's also great is that they offer free between change top offs of oil & even washer fluid & tire air. Oil changes are something I've always done myself, but living now in a townhouse the "association" frowns upon that sort of thing and without rules, well there would be anarchy. But I digress, back to the review. They seem to be a bit on the expensive side, and they will do what ever than can to get you out of there paying for more than just an oil change. Hold your ground, learn how to say no, and you'll be fine. Once I did go in for a oil top off between changes and was in & out in just a few minutes, however they did not check my washer fluid or my tire pressure. I was however on my way from work & didn't bother to bring it up. Overall if you find the need to have someone other than yourself to do your oil changes, Valvoline is your best choice. read more

I was just refused service by the manager, Matt, after putting my keys on the dashboard in plain sight of everyone and not in a black box as he insisted. This after I had just had gotten an oil change 20 minutes earlier on a different vehicle with no incident. During the first trip, they didn't even ask me to put the keys in a black box. I had been getting my oil changed here for years. NO LONGER This escalation was completely unwarranted and unprofessional. This team needs to educated on customer service. read more
