I was literally 56 miles approximately from my tank being empty. So I decided to take my chances and head down the road to Sunniland Country Store. This store/station is about 40 miles from the Miccosukee Service station so needless to say as I drove along with a strong headwind pushing hard against my car and I saw the gas gauge inch closer and closer to "E" I started to sweat. Mainly since I turned off the air conditioner to conserve gas but also because I had never been that close to running out of gas. This station is a bit off I-75 by ten miles so I chugged along towards the station and I see lightning and dark clouds in the distance. I made it to the station and the gas was reasonably priced but the gas comes out at a snail's pace. It trickles into the take at 0.00000001 gallons per hour. Only kidding but it was super slow and the dark clouds continues to make their way closer and closer. I didn't have time to go into the store but there is plenty of space around the lot to picnic or park in the shade if needed. I was able to pay at the pump. Finally the tank was full and I peeled out burning rubber to make it back to I-75 and escape the storm. So, I'm thankful I made to this station and that they were open because I really wouldn't have had any other choice had they been closed or the tanks out of order. I ended up running into the storm anyway near Sarasota but at least I had gas even if I couldn't see through all the rain.

The strongest appeal to a Wawa is their food counter which puts a lot of their emphasis on their subs. Since Wawa is from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, Wawa calls these sandwiches "hoagies." Whether you want to call it a hoagie or a sub, they are still pretty good, especially when compared to the food at other gas stations. My go-to sub (or hoagie) is their Italian, though I have had their cheesesteaks more than once. I wiuod definitely recommend either of these subs (or hoagies). In addition to their subs (or hoagies), Wawa slots offers several other items from this food area. They also have the usual convenience store items inside. All in all, I will give this particular location five stars.

The spaces are huge so they accommodate any vehicle whether a motorcycle or RV. The gas prices are relatively accurate in comparison to any "regular" gas station you might go to. It's good to see they don't raise their prices knowing they're the only option out there. As far as inside goes, the businesses are all solid. Whether you get some food from the Glades Cafe or a coffee from Dunkin, you'll be satisfied. Once again, the pricing is super fair & it seems like most of the employees working here are friendly. These places are efficient considering they're dealing with a constant flow of customers all day. As far as my experiences over the years have gone, they've been nothing but positive. If it's your thing, they also have a small casino located right next door. I've never been inside but it seems to get a good flow of people. Personally, I stop by here on most trips across the Alley. Now to be fair, they rebuilt the plaza and physically it looks great. Clean, modern, spacious, and far nicer than the old roadside stop it replaced. You walk in thinking, "Wow, this is actually pretty impressive." And then you look at the prices and suddenly feel like you accidentally wandered into an airport terminal designed by oil companies. Case in point: TEN DOLLARS. For a single-serving bag of Kettle brand potato chips. I stared at the price tag like it had personally insulted my family. For ten dollars, those chips better have been cooked by a Michelin-star chef and blessed by a shaman before being placed on the shelf. And the gas prices? A full dollar more per gallon than what I paid before leaving home earlier that day. A DOLLAR. At today's prices, that's not a "slight markup." That's a financial hostage situation with fuel pumps. But here's the thing... They know exactly what they're doing. Because for roughly 25 miles in either direction, there's basically nothing around except swamp, gators, and your rapidly increasing sense of vulnerability as the fuel gauge drops. So yes, if you HAVE to stop, stop. Use the restroom. Buy the overpriced chips. Accept your fate. But let's be clear: nobody is choosing this stop because of value. This is survival shopping. And if you're low on gas and made it this far, you'll likely pay just about any price to get you out of this middle of nowhere because there's not much for another 20 or so miles to the west. The convenience store had the convenient things including a cooler with cold water. Perfect for the rest of my journey eastwards.
