I believe in leaving fair and honest reviews, which is why I'm updating my original feedback. **To…read moreclarify, I have never received any service from this business.** My initial one-star review was based solely on my phone conversation with Lou while scheduling an appointment to have a diagnostic performed. I want to thank Ethan, the service manager, for taking the time out of his busy day to personally call me and explain the company's position regarding my review. I appreciate the effort to clarify the misunderstanding. According to Ethan, the business does not require payment upfront. Instead, the text we received was a pre-approval link meant to inform us of the potential cost following a diagnostic. Unfortunately, this wasn't clearly communicated during my original call with Lou. If he had mentioned that we'd receive a text requiring approval before any work could be done--and that payment would only be due after the diagnostic--I would not have left a one-star review. From a customer's perspective, receiving a $200+ link without prior explanation understandably creates the impression that payment is required in advance. This was a clear miscommunication, and I'm willing to chalk it up as such. That said, I strongly recommend the business makes this process more transparent in future calls. Customers should be clearly told: 1. They will receive a text with a pre-approval link. 2. No payment is due until after the diagnostic is complete. In today's climate, transparency is critical, and many customers--like myself--may feel uneasy approving charges before their vehicle has even been seen. While I still haven't had any work done here, I want to be fair. Ethan's call helped clarify the process, and for that reason, I'm updating my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. My intention has never been to tarnish this business--only to share my honest experience. I hope this feedback helps them improve communication with future customers and avoid similar misunderstandings. Thank you again.

Made an online appointment yesterday evening for a safety inspection. Received a text shortly…read morebefore my appointment saying they won't do the inspection on my vehicle. When I challenged that and said I would happily pay for a repeat inspection *IF* my vehicle needs repairs, Tony repeatedly doubled down on nonsensical policies. Recommend using Columba Auto Care or Dobbin Auto Repair. Both seem more respectful of customers' time. Neither have such "policies" for state inspections. UPDATE to correct the inaccuracies by the business owner: I booked the night before and received confirmation of such. Also, when I called Tony in response to his text, I told him I'd pay for a repeat inspection IF NECESSARY (unlikely on a newer model with low miles) and would not want their shop to do the repairs. He still doubled down on nonsensical policies. If my vehicle needed repairs, I'd take it to Tesla -- not a random shop without the expertise necessary to take care of my vehicle. I've talked with multiple shops in the area. This is the ONLY one I've spoken to that refuses to do state inspections on Teslas. They should reevaluate their policies AND state this clearly on their website so they do not waste customers' time.

0 stars, either they're scammers or their prices are outrageous. I went here for a vehicle…read moreinspection months ago in which I was told I needed around $5,000 worth of work. Windshield wipers I just replaced, exhaust clamps that I had put on myself, and engine mounts that were "basically non existent". Speaking of the exhaust clamps when I got the truck back I heard rattling from the undercarriage, rattling that I have never heard before and i've been working on this truck for months (replacing the catalytic converter, changing the starter, etc.) When I asked the mechanic what that rattling was the best thing he could do was say "I'm not sure" give me my keys and walk away. When I got under the truck to tighten the clamp myself (Which for some reason was $25 when I can get it for $7 from autozone) The manager came out and gave me some excuse about expanding and shrinking. Since I've retightened that clamp it hasn't budged again in months or made a squeak. The wait was long but that was expected due to it being a vehicle inspection. Overall my visit was .5 stars out of 5. The only saving grace was the front desk employee who was a pretty nice guy. But my reasoning for writing this comes after having two friends go to this shop and also get outrageous numbers, one got $6,000 in repairs after inspection and another got quoted a $1,300 brake job just for the front. I really hate to leave bad reviews but please go somewhere else and save yourself the headache.

I really hate that I have to update my review in a negative way but I have to be honest. I will…read morestart by saying that Eddie is super super nice and friendly HOWEVER he does not thoroughly explain what is going on with my car. He initially did body work to my car, which I was VERY happy with, but just days later, my splash shield light came on, then my check engine. I am not necessarily saying they caused this (can't confirm they didn't either, as they were the only ones who worked on my car). So I took my car back shortly after, and Eddie said he did the diagnostics for free. He then charged me for an oil change (that I didn't need at the time). I emailed Eddie asking for my diagnostic results, which he said he would get to me, but he never did. I had to take my car somewhere else, and it turned out to be a simple sensor issue that they promptly fixed, and I haven't had an issue since.

TLDR; Eddie was highly unprofessional during this process, ignoring my concerns and making light of…read morethe situation. Screenshots attached. I needed a compressor replaced and needed it quickly as I'm active duty Army and was on leave the next week to drive my family down to South Carolina. Despite multiple promises over 4 days that my car would be ready in time, it was not. I had to spend a lot of money on a rental vehicle and my car now has problems it didn't have before. On 10 July I called CACC to say my A/C was blowing hot air. Eddie said to head over and I'd be seen right away. The address on Yelp was incorrect (it was their old address 15 mins away). When I made it to the right building they acted like it was weird to get a walk in, they didn't know how much an estimate costs and seemed not to know what to do with me. I should've left then and I'll regret not doing so forever. I said I needed to be seen immediately because I'm going out of town soon, so if they didn't have time I would need to go somewhere else. This is the first time they lied to me. The receptionist kept telling me the mechanics couldn't figure out what was wrong. This went on for two hours. Finally she says I need a new compressor (it wasn't getting any power)- that is the very first thing you would look at for a broken A/C so that tells me they were lying to me that they were looking at it just to keep me in the shop. She promises they can get the part the next morning and have it ready for me by late 11 July. After some back and forth she offered to let me take one of their vehicles for the day, but when I got inside it was filled with trash, loose change, and the dash light was on. I gave the keys back right away. Every day for the next 4 days they told me it would be ready the next day. Continued lies about OTHER issues with the vehicle, but none of them were well-explained even when I asked for specifics. Eddie would say vague things, "there's a hose issue; there's blockages; it's dirty" but when I asked exactly what was being done he would say not to worry and blow my questions off. I am fully confident they did not touch my car and were lying to keep pushing off working on it. For the 6 days they had my car it equaled 4.5 hours of labor. No other work is listed except for replacing the compressor and refrigerant. I pick the car up on 15 July. A/C is slow but turns on. By the next day it died completely again. Eddie says I can't take it to his shop because it's conveniently under construction. I'm sent to a different mechanic who tells me the compressor is completely dead and he sees no other work having been done. I tell Eddie this and do not get an answer until I push him for a resolution. I am forced to bring my car back and have to shell out the money for a rental car to drive the 8 hours down to South Carolina and back. I sent Eddie the cost of the rental car but he did not try to compensate. Eddie blames whatever he got the part from for being a dud. I see on Google Reviews that a prior employee accused him of using bad parts to cut costs, I'd say this supports that accusation. When I show up to drop my car off the second time, directly before picking up a rental and driving 8 hours (now losing a day off my trip because Eddie ignored me the day before), the office is locked. They knew when I was coming. Luckily a mechanic came out another door and took my keys when I explained. I picked my car up for the second time on 22 July. Eddie is not there. Receptionist Debbie says the mechanics mentioned something about a loose wiring harness but she drove it around for a while and it "seems fine". I said you can't tell me there's a problem maybe but you don't know what it is and you didn't notice anything as a non-mechanic. She says the wiring harness was why it didn't work last time- I explained to her I know that isn't true because the OTHER mechanic I went to couldn't even get it to accept power while grounded, so there's another lie. Lo and behold, my car now has wiring issues every time I turn it on, with the Lane Keeping System malfunctioning at start up. I absolutely refuse to bring my car back to this shop and will be paying even more to have someone else fix it. I don't lie, I don't need to, so the owner can say what he wants to this review but it only reinforces the unprofessional from this business.

From the first phone call, I could tell the experience was going to be different. They were able to get my car in quickly, performed a thorough diagnostic, and accurately identified the issue as a faulty sensor. The repair was completed the same day, and my car has been running great ever since. What really stood out to me was their communication and transparency. They took the time to explain exactly what was wrong, showed me the old sensor they removed, and answered all of my questions in a way that was easy to understand. I never felt pressured into unnecessary repairs or talked down to. A month later, when I called about a separate issue, they immediately pulled up my vehicle history and knew exactly who I was and what work had been done. That level of organization and customer service is rare. Finding a mechanic you trust can be difficult, but Columbia Family Auto Care has earned my trust. If you're looking for honest diagnostics, fair pricing, and a team that genuinely takes the time to help their customers, I highly recommend them.

Not knowing a reliable repair shop in the Columbia area, I had to search based on online reviews. I tried several shops that all have "front desk service" (including dealers) and none of them really understood and investigated the condition thoroughly. After several months, I realized that my mistake was dealing with middle persons not the real mechanic. The experience has been very disturbing. By chance, my neighbor suggested that I should try out Columbia Family Auto Care in Jessup. Young is the mechanic that owns the shop. He is very experienced and pays interest in hearing out my description of the car symptoms. Now, my Subaru is back on the road with smooth rides. What a good feeling !
