Use caution. I called Mobile Car Dr but Wrench.com answered the phone (after about a 15 min hold with music). That was my first concern (I am not calling a local company but a general dispatcher that likely doesn't know the local workers). I explained I wanted a check of the brake pads on our motorhome RV. They guy asked for our zip code and after a few minutes said he had one RV technician in our area (one guy that does everything... that made me uncomfortable - the guy answering the phone is obviously sitting in some central location looking at a database that many cities/states register in for referrals). I said I wanted to get independent reviews (e.g. not on their site) for the person before I agreed to anything. He indicated he was fine with that (but never offered the technicians name or anyway to see any reviews). Instead the rep tried to make an appointment for the next afternoon. When I asked if he had the equipment to put our entire RV in the air to take off each of the 6 wheels and told him the weight, he didn't reply but asked for the vin (when asked why he said he would then have information about the vehicle, the Chassis information meant nothing to this guy, nor the GVW, he obviously didn't know RVs at all). He then quoted a price for one hour for diagnostics. I questioned if the technician could jack up the RV and take all 6 tires and wheels off to look at the brakes and discuss what he is seeing with us so we can discuss any work. He again said this is the price for the hour and they do their diagnostics in an hour. I again asked about checking all 6 brakes, discussing it with us, and putting the vehicle back together in an hour (we know how long it takes the tire guys, who do this all day long, to take off all 6 tires and knew an hour was not enough time). The guy on the phone started backpedaling fast at this time. Saying the hour was for diagnostics, no discussion with us about work to do.... (I didn't even wait for the words and another to put the tires back on).... At that point we ended the call (we had a couple other places we could call that we trusted a lot more at this point). No way would they be able to pull off 6 wheels in an hour, discuss the issues, and put it all back together in an hours time. Be careful using a national call center for things, make sure you know who will come out for your service and that there are recommendations for that person doing the work you want done in an independent review place like yelp. read more

I was looking at buying a car in Phoenix, about 350 miles from me. I'd done some negotiating with the dealer but needed someone to look at the car in person before I flew in to look at it and presumably buy it. I contacted Mobile Car Dr. The cost of a pre-purchase inspection is $120. That includes no photos and no written report. After a long list (by phone) of rock chips, door dings, and a bent muffler tip, I actually stopped Scott and said.. "let me get this straight... you took absolutely no photos?". Nope. Zero photos. Scott goes on to tell me that he reviewed all the items with the dealer (wait... the dealer? Aren't you working for me, to get ME negotiation room with the dealer?) before he called me. This leads to a story of how he used to work for this dealership. Somehow that didn't come up on the phone when I booked him. I guess I know why he overlooked so many things. I arrived the next day to buy my car, the first thing I noticed is that the LCD monitor, the centerpiece of the dashboard, looks like it's been cleaned with a Brillo pad. There is no way you could sit in this car and not immediately notice it. We're not talking a tiny scratch, the whole face of the LCD is destroyed. This somehow did not make it into his report on the condition of the vehicle. I insert the key, and the first thing this other huge monitor displays is "Service A1 exceeded by 2000 miles". Update: The technician showed up 10 minutes late. But once he got to work on the car, he was quick and efficient. I will definitely give these guys another chance if I have car issues. Hopefully, they just had a rough day yesterday and it is not the norm for this company. Additional information: I was able to get a hold of the local office. The woman who helped me went straight to management. They changed my appointment to 9:00 am, thank you. I hope that the appointment goes smoothly. I was super excited when I found this company to come and fix my truck. They were so polite and helpful on the phone. They went over all of the options with me, what would save me money, what would cost more. Then I was scheduled for same day service. My appointment was at 2:00. I started calling at 3. I could not get through and had to leave messages. Finally at 4:10, I received a phone call back. After disconnects, hang ups and being told the local team was trying to reach me to let me know what was going on and that Foe this to happen I needed to hang up, so I did. I waited 20 minutes with no phone call, I called back. This time I was connected to a very helpful person who was able to find out that she has no idea why the technician didn't show up, but they can offer me an appointment tomorrow at 2:30. My question was: no one can come out here today? She said she had no idea why, but that it couldn't happen until tomorrow afternoon. I said, I have sat around waiting 4 hours, I don't have a vehicle to do what I need to do. Can they come first thing in the morning? She said the only time is 2:30. I then asked what do I have to ensure this doesn't happen again? Her response was she hopes it doesn't. I am beyond frustrated. I would drive my truck to a mechanic if the thing would start. This is suppose to be a helpful service so I can avoid having the truck towed. I need my truck so I can go to work. read more

Normal day getting ready for work and boom...wife's car wouldn't start. I had her take my car to work, but now i'm stuck. Knowing little about cars, I knew for sure it was the battery since the lights wouldn't turn on, but even trying to jump it with neighbors cars it failed. I had a dilemma, get the car tow'd or look for a mobile mechanic.... Luckily I was able to find Tristan and Mobile Car Dr. He came in about 2hrs and changed the battery. What was odd was when we started it up, there was a foul burning smell.....it turned out to be a bad alternator as well (mind you we have never changed the alternator on our 10yr old lexus is250). He offered a great price, and considering it can all be done here at my home while I telecommute.....it was a no brainer. Wow. What a great experience! Never even thought of a mobile mechanic before today. Visiting Scottsdale from So Cal this week and had a power steering pump fail. Stranded, I looked around to find a place with the least likelihood of getting taken. I have no knowledge of reputable mechanics in the area. Hoping to avoid a tow to an unknown dealer where the price would be inspiringly high, searching internet reviews, I found these guys. I am blessed. Called on a Friday morning, connected immediately with Tristan (the owner) who dispatched David to my location in just two hours. Two hours later, the truck is back in business. All at prices my 25 year mechanic back home said I should expect! And I didn't have to pay for, or be inconvenienced by, a tow. Lovely! I drive a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 5.9l Cummins Diesel. A fixed base mechanic of high repute, based on "best in arizona mechanic ratings," here in Scottsdale would not look at it for five days. And then, he said because it is diesel, they'd probably send it to a dealer. When I asked which dealer, he didn't know. Epic Fail! It is a wonderful thing to find help when you need it. ***UPDATE*** Just received a call and an email from Natalie, Mgr of Customer Service. They are going to refund me the $50. Yeah!!! I sent Casey an email from my personal email on the 21st and still no response (it's now the 29th). This is what it said... Hi Casey, thanks for the quick response. However, nothing in your response pertained to my issue, My issue is that I feel I should be given a refund of $50 because you really only charge $100 for the diagnostic (he was here less than 15 mins). I understand the charge for the diagnostic ($100) and I'm not refuting that. I also understand that you cannot fix the issue (timing chain guide) so I cannot get the work done by you. Since the reason for the call ended up being the timing chain guide, that you guys cannot fix, why should I be penalized and lose $50? Trust me, every other mobile mechanic operation costs less that $100. I only went with Mobile Car Dr. because I had used them in the past and they were honest (I wrote a rave review on them!). Also, the charges for the thermostat housing to be repaired are astronomical. You are wanting to charge me $234.99 for the housing kit when I purchased it online for only $23.99. Since I would be using my own product, you upped the labor by $30 (why is that?). It should of only been the $110 (price you were going to charge if I used your parts). I honestly don't think I'm being unreasonable and I would not have requested a refund if I didn't feel it was the right thing to do by your company. Mobile Car Doctor far exceeded my expectations. I've been looking for a specific model truck that stopped being made in 1999. Due to some quirks on features that I'm looking for, and the fact that most of these things were used as workhorses, finding one in decent shape is a challenge, and I've had no luck locally. I found a contender in Phoenix, but wanted an independent set of eyes on the truck before I got on a plane with a fistful of cash and a thousand miles of desert that me and my new ride would have to cross before getting home. I found Mobile Car Doctor, and am so glad I did. Still haven't decided whether I'll buy this truck, but I'm almost at the point of saying any future remote car shopping (a bad habit of mine) has to be in Phoenix. They got someone out to the dealer the same day I called in. The inspection did not start until about 4:30pm, and lasted a good 2 hours. The technician called me on his way home, and spent a good 25 minutes on the phone walking through his findings. A full written report was promised via email tomorrow morning. Very thorough and detailed (what kind of mechanic tells you about a missing mirror on the passenger side visor and can also 'feel' where in the driveline slippage is occurring???). These guys were great. Put them on the top of your list if you need a pre purchase inspection; my gut says the same methodical detail would go in to actual repair work too. read more

It's rare that one finds an honest mechanic, in this instance, I've found the Dali lama! I live in the Bahamas and needed a Hybrid 750i BMW inspected in Scottsdale, Az, this is no small purchase as such, I was determined to have the best service from the most knowledgeable professionals possible. Tristan had a mechanic on site in 2 hours, had a fully detailed report the next day, a comprehensive and complete vehicle check of all system WITH pictures of any irregularities or cosmetic issues. I couldn't even see what was being referenced in the HD pics; they were that small. Attention to detail, that's what it's all about. I'm throughly impressed. Call me Dee, I don't do reviews but with this one I had to because: I went to a local auto garage "Good****" Auto" and they wanted about $1,200 to replace my rack n pinon. I called Mobile car doc and John found the problem right away. It was not the rack n Pinon but a leak in the power steering unit. John saved me over $1,000. Good Sam called this guy and he had no idea what he was doing. Charged us $190 for NOTHING and said we would need to hire a crane to fix our RV. He claimed to have a migraine but looked totally hung over! KOA suggested we call 4-Points RV Service and we're glad we did. I have been using Mobile Car Dr. for about 5 years now and these guys have saved me literally thousands of $$. Scott is the best. He tells me accurately and honestly what the issue is. A recent problem was resolved for about $75 in parts instead of $600 at the dealer. Scott identified the issue correctly that I had misdiagnosed and actually overlooked. If you know how to do simple work yourself and just need a 2nd expert set of eyes to confirm, they give you a straight forward analysis. Mobile Car Dr. Is a life saver! My fiancé and I had two cars go down in the same day. After calling around to every mechanic in our area, we thankfully called these guys. Two issues we ran into were outrageous quotes or they simply couldn't get us in ...not to mention the two tows we would need for our cars to go to a shop.
