Shelter In Place review Even before Shelter In Place began in the bay area, Apple stores shut down, and my appointment to repair my cracked screen was cancelled. My phone was still functioning, and I am in support of safety measures, so I didn't fret too much. As my cracks expanded, I did wonder when phone repair would become an essential service. If someone's phone is not functional and they are an isolated person, it would become a safety issue. A few weeks later, on a whim, I tried again with Apple to make an appointment. We pay the monthly insurance, so the repair would be covered. Apple offered me an appointment with Mobile Kangaroo, and I jumped at it. Went to Mobile Kangaroo (MK) for a battery replacement on my iPhone SE 2nd (generation). This was my 2nd time to use them. Why MK and not Apple? MK is Apple Certified, so I knew the replacement would be an original Apple battery and would be installed correctly. Plus, their method allow you to keep the phone until time of actual replacement. You bring in the phone. They run a diagnostic test to determine the battery needs replacing and the battery's condition is not due to something else. Then, you pay for the new battery, they order it and you wait for them to notify you the battery has been received. Then you go back to MK, give them your phone and in 1.5 to 2 hours it's ready. read more

There are no updates for when to pick up your phone from the repair, if you submit an escalation or a message for an update, no one responds. They have kept my phone overnight despite me asking them not to, and in my reservation request that this would need to be expedited. I had my iPad "repaired" here, screen replacement. I say "repaired" because it wasn't fixed properly. The magnet that you use with the iPad screen covers from Apple to automatically shut off the screen when you close the cover, we'll that no longer works. In fact, it does the opposite! And the adhesive used to keep the screen attached isn't actually attached. Anyone that handles my iPad is always like, "uh, something is wrong with your iPad." Communication was poor in that I had to call back repeatedly because I would receive an update and that they would call me back at a certain time but they would never call so I would wait and wait but no call so then I'd call and they were waiting for my authorization on a repair so my iPad would just be sitting there waiting with no work being done on it because they were waiting for me when they could have called me but no, they were waiting for me to call!? The quote I received for the amount of time it would take was significantly shorter than how long it ACTUALLY took. I authorized the repair because I needed to take my iPad with me on a business trip and they said it would be done 3 days before I needed to leave. I ended up picking it up on my way to the airport. I had my Mac Pro screen cracked. I was trying make appointment with Apple store but I would need to wait 10-12 days for appointment so I choose mobile kangaroo. They did great job although when I read reviews on yelp I got scared. People say you cannot get in touch with them and it takes forever to repair but it's not true. They don't take your phone calles but they responds within half an hour on every email I sent . Everything was perfectly done in matter of 6 days. It was worth to wait. Glad to add another all star review for this place. I am not the brightest tool in the shed but coming here made me feel smart.I was having problems with my charger port and well I need to stick things in there for some of the things I do . I wouldn't wanna buy another phone if I didn't have to because it's kinda like my baby yknow especially since I don't want kids so it's just my phone and my cat. I made calls and went to others but they seemed too busy. I came In here and they helped me right away, in fact she seemed to not want me to go until she really knew she helped me best she can. She examined my charger port, got some scrap tool and did some scrapping , she got her light looked inside and after a bit boom it was charging without having to do a buncha wriggling and wrestling of the cord. I mean I thought I tried my best but obviously they're the experts. This place relieved a lot of my stress. I had no idea cell phone repair places do things other then screen repair. I spilt liquid on my laptop. My bad right? I knew I would have to pay for it. So I brought it here in April, paid $120 for a water damage diagnostic and paid the $600 on top of that for the repair and labor. After bringing it home and using the laptop, I noticed it would freeze up and shut down randomly. I made an appointment (it took another month to get one) to bring it back in and have them fix their work. This appt is now in June, They did a quick diagnosis.. They then tell me that the freezing up and shutting down must be from something I downloaded on the laptop. I never downloaded anything. I use the laptop only a couple times a week for streaming Netflix.. Anyway, the laptop continued to freeze and shut down randomly and I dealt with it until it just shut off completely and would not turn on. I brought it back in AGAIN (3rd time) . They sent me an insane quote for another $65 + $700 to replace everything because there is "liquid damage." uhh...this was NOT POSSIBLE!!! I was very careful and did not get it anywhere near liquid since April. And they tell me it was "out of the warranty" No one ever told me there even was a warranty for this repair the first 2 times bringing it in! This huge quote the 3rd time now had me livid. I decided to instead make an appointment and bring it directly to the Apple store. I explained to them what has happened with their "authorized" shops repairs. Apple repaired Mobile kangaroos work for only $214 not $700. And guess what?! They told me there were actually NO SIGNS OF WATER DAMAGE. So therefore, the laptop never worked properly due to Mobile Kangaroos mistakes and sloppy work back in April. This shows you Mobile Kangaroo will do anything to take your money for poor work. And will continue to try to take your money for their mistakes. There is a huge lack of customer service here. I wish I knew this the first time I brought it in. Moral of the story people- save yourself a lot of money and headaches and just get Apple care. Also take your Apple products for repair at Apple ONLY!!!! read more

I came here to fix the screen of my broken iPhone5 (repaired for $120). I recommend if it's still available to get the deal on yelp. I went in early in the morning and was out in about 20 minutes. I'm not promising they will finish it that quickly, I just got lucky with my timing. They have some products but I think it's just a store front that mainly does screen fixes. Plus, they are located in a nice area of downtown so if your wait is longer, you can walk around. Maybe get a blowout while you wait next door. I only had time to grab a latte at Peet's. read more

Within a day, I received an email providing an update on the status of my diagnostic evaluation. The next day, I received a telephone call stating my Apple iMac was ready. Literally the worst. Waited a month for for a new tablet screen. When I got it back the screen was fine but would cut out intermittently; was rare at first but got worse over two months. Took it back and was told the display was faulty but I'd have to pay full price because I'd exceeded a 30 day warranty period I hadn't been told about on getting the tablet back. Even if you don't get conned, the lines are always bad and the prices on the high end of average. There is no reason to gamble on this place, just don't do it. read more

The Genius Bar wanted to keep the laptop for four days. Will at Mobile Kangaroo told me he'd need it for a few hours to do a diagnostic. Then told me to bring it back when the part came in and he'd fix it that day. That's what happened. Will was busier than expected but stayed true to his word and even kept the shop open an hour late so he would get the job done. Best of all, it was all free and I got a new battery too because it was still (although barely) under warranty. Quick-- I need someone to fix the screen, pronto! I called the other guys all over Yelp iCracked, and got no response from roughly 6pm- 2pm the next day. Then I remembered seeing all the cracked screens on display over on Broadway, Redwood City. Heck yeah-- I'm going there. I walked in to find a nice young gentleman ready and willing to help me in whatever way he possibly could. I asked him if he could make it quick, and he replied with exactly what I wanted to hear, "Yes, it'll be about 10 minutes". I left after listening to him blast some of my favorite beats and gave him some room to do his magic (although the store is very spacious and I could have easily waited there). I had places to be and people to see! Once I came back to Omar, he presented my phone which had been repaired and appeared to look brand spankin' new. The procedure was quick, easy and painless! Not exactly free as I would have liked it to be-- but hey, that's what I get for being so careless before!! This guy is good-- he knows what he's doing-- and does it with precision and care!! Worst experience! Mobile Kangaroo in San Mateo is much better. I went to the RWC one and what's difference! 1) shop was supposed to be open at 10. I went there at 11 and no one was there. The phone number was wrong. He finally showed up 30 minutes later and did not apologize for keeping me and another customer waiting. 2) rude the entire time. Did not explain anything. Just kept saying it will take 45-60mins. He said he didn't care if I waited or cancer back later but said it in the most "f* you" way. * 3) I was there to have my iPhone screen replaced. That part was OK. But, a monkey can be trained to replace an iPhone screen. There are services that will come over to your office and fix it in 20 minutes. Go to the mobile kangaroo in San Mateo. Much better service. You can verify through Yelp that I've done business with both of them in the past. *note: this is a review of the gentleman who was present on Saturday in Nov 2015. Terrible experience and service. I requested a phone screen for my Nexus 5 the first weekend of December and was told they didn't have the parts but they'd be in by about Thursday of the next week and was asked to call back before coming in the following weekend for the fix. I called back on Thursday, and apparently the parts that did come in were defective, so they asked me to call back the following Monday when proper, non-defective parts were in. On day 10 (the following Monday), I called back and was told there was no record of me, I re-explained the whole situation, and they put me "in the system" and said they'd call me in another 2-3 days when the parts were in. It's now 1 month later and I have yet to receive a call that parts are in. I would have been fine with any answer, including even waiting a few weeks (arguably, this was around the holidays so delays in shipping could be expected), but there was just no communication back from them or any updates whatsoever, and as a result, it seems like the store has just completely forgotten multiple times. At this point, even if the parts do show up, I have no confidence that my phone will be fixed properly, so I decided to go elsewhere. This other place was able to see my phone, get the parts, and fix it all within a matter of 24 hours. read more

Loved this experience. Came in at 5:05pm. The place gets busy before closing at 6p, so opt to stop by from 3p-5p or earlier before the lunch hour crowd. Not all screens are in stock, so give the owner a call first. I was lucky that the iPhone 5s screen was in stock. Little less expensive than iCracked and more personable, but does require the effort to drive to the location, pay for parking, etc--so keep that in mind. There are plenty of covers for sale also and the owner has lots of phone knowledge too about all brands and all service providers. Highly recommend, but remember, try to hit him up during off-peak hours for more one-on-one service and call ahead to ask about your parts in stock. Would definitely go here again. read more

My iPhone 4S battery is 2 years old now and just won't hold a charge... I brought my phone in and had Mobile Kangaroo replace my battery. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes... it literally took them longer to do the paperwork and pay for the service than for them to replace the battery. Extremely unethical business practices. Frank, directly lied to me regarding when this device would be ready to pick up. When I initially explained my time constraints, he assured me it would be completed by the next day. When I called the next the day, after not hearing from him, he proceeded to tell me they didn't have the part yet, would get it first thing in the morning, and it would be ready by noon the following day. When I called just before noon, he claimed he missed the delivery and it would be ready by the end of the day. I came in here and the guy told me it would take between one and a half and two hours. I came back and hour and a half later and he hadn't touched my phone. In fact, the store was locked and he was on a lunch break. I'm under the understanding that it takes just a couple of minutes to switch out an iPhone battery. After dealing with parking meters in downtown Redwood City, the rain, coming back twice, and not Having my phone fixed, I just asked for my money back and my phone and I will never go back to his place ever again. I would've happily pay double for someone who could actually do it while I was there.
