Too bad I can't give Nick more stars than five... that's the maximum! Nick unbelievably helped me with my problem without charging me a dime. He was super patient with me (I am not automobile inclined) as we tried to diagnose my issue over the phone so that he could give me an accurate quote. I truly believe that any mechanic I have ever met, including my own brother, would have found a way to shake some coin off of me before helping me solve a problem, but Nick was up front about the prices (more than reasonable) and knowledgeable, giving me some troubleshooting ideas and a few options to best accomodate me. I won't bore you with the details (I have a small leak in my hydraulics), but I appreciate that he didn't insist that I make repairs, like a doctor or a dad would do. And he wanted to know how my troubleshooting worked out, calling him back either way, like a date dropping you off at your house and waiting for you to turn on your porch light to make sure you're safe. Anyway, this might sound weird, but I am actually looking forward to my next automobile issue because I want to give Nick my business. This review is a little past due but I decided to finally do it because I feel I should keep others from going through the same trouble I am right now... earlier this year I had an accident and needed to have my front left control arm replaced I looked all over on yelp and came across this company and since they had good reviews, I decided to give them a shot because of the convenience. Nick showed up three hours after he said he would, and didn't bother to call.. also didn't answer when I tried calling him, luckily I hadn't left work yet because he finally just randomly shows up. Takes a look and says I need a control arm and end links for the front seat bar. He goes and orders them and says he would be back the next day... he never showed up and wouldn't answer his phone. He finally shows up the next day(again just randomly showed up). Thankfully once again I was still there at work... he showed up in a pickup truck that was his personal vehicle because "his work rig was in the shop". Ok no big deal.... he does the work and I ask to test drive it before he left. The steering was really loose and unresponsive. Also there was a clunking sound. He said he had to go and would be back to work on it again. Next day driving it back to work to meet nick as he requested, steering was really sloppy and unsafe. Nick never showed and never answered my calls. I took it to another shop and had them look at it. He forgot to replace a couple bolts and put the wrong control arm in. After a few days, I finally got ahold of him and told him and he swore up and down he would never forget to put parts back. And that he got the correct control arm. He said he would be back to check his work and never showed. I was never able to get ahold of him again Fast forward a good few months and the car is in the shop having the front control arm replaced along with the front sway bar and the end links he forgot to replace yet charged me for. So now I am down $400 for the wrong part and missing end links that he never installed and another 500 for parts and labor for the new auto shop to do the work correctly. I really wanted to like this company as I love the idea and convenience of the idea, and nick really was a nice guy, but man I really got screwed by these guys... I'm really tempted to look into what I can do legally at this point. I hope this review helps anyone else that is looking at going through this company. True to my previous review I had Nick come out and do my brakes on my van this morning! Once again this guy makes other mechanic and ships look like fools. He is quick, responsive and knows his, err stuff. My original quite was a really good price and seeing as he is a mobile mechanic it's done at your house! Awesome! Well after he took it for a test drive he discovered my tires were bad on the van. In a matter of approximately an hour, I had my brakes (all four), alignment, balancing, and four brand new tires on the van and sitting in my driveway! All for about 1/3 of what Firestone or any of those other joints would have charged me. Trust me when I tell you this, call Nick, he's good, truthful, and just a nice guy. My wife's alternator went out on her Mitsubishi outlander. Our local Pep Boys was pretty busy and I'm tired of dropping my car off there having them tell me the job will take an hour but them keeping my car for 6 to 8 hours while I'm stuck hanging out in the area just waiting. I spoke with Joe and he set up an appointment to come to my house Monday morning. Joe showed up on time, removed the old alternator, and went to the auto parts store to buy the exact replacement. A few weeks ago my brother was involved in an accident, The person that hit him destroyed the rear end in his 4Runner, The insurance Co. wanted to total out the SUV, But the only thing wrong with it was the rear end no body or frame damage. The insurance agreed and sent him a check, I helped him look all over Orange County for someone to supply and install a rear end. Last night, my husband's car crapped out on him. He asked me to look up a mobile mechanic, and so naturally I turned to Yelp to find a good one. Thanks to Billy G's review, we found Nick Johnson - a.k.a. Mobile MechaNICK. My husband emailed Nick last night at around 11:30pm, and we went to bed hoping he would hear back from him sometime tomorrow (well, today) so that we could plan to be home in time for him to come work on the car. We woke up at 7:30am and my husband already had a message from Nick saying he could definitely come help us out. They agreed on Nick coming around 12 noon, so fortunately my husband was able to take a day off from work. I wasn't here when Nick came to work on my husband's car, but when I got home, I saw that my husband wasn't here so I knew he had to have gotten it fixed. I was kinda nervous about the cost, because my hubby was thinking it might be around $400. He called Subaru and they quoted him $1500, so $400 was definitely better than that. But you know what's even better than $400? $65. That' right. Sixty-five freakin' dollars - that's all that Nick charged us for his superior services. I couldn't believe it! I had gotten my car serviced at Toyota a few months ago, and we talked them down from $1100 to $345, but they cut a bunch of services out. I found Nick here on Yelp and called him for a problem I was having with my car. He gave me a window of time when he would be able to be at my place (like a cable guy) and called me with an update when he was on his way. My dad is a mechanic and had diagnosed the problem I was having with my car over the phone. But, when Nick got there he found it was something super simple that only needed a minute to fix. I knew I also needed a battery so he said if I bought the battery from him he wouldn't charge me for the other thing he fixed. He went to his warehouse and got the battery, came back, swapped out my battery in a few minutes and was on his way. My car runs perfectly now and I know I saved money by not going to a traditional mechanic. Nick was very knowledgable and made me feel totally comfortable (unlike a lot of mechanics that take advantage of women & people who don't know about cars). Recently, the park lockout mechanism in my Chrysler broke. This is a common problem due to a flimsy part made by Chrysler. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a recall on this piece and when it breaks you are stranded unable to shift out of park. This happened to me in my office parking lot. I saw the reviews for Nick and thought I'd give him a try. In addition to towing charges, Chrysler charges between $400 - $500 to fix this part (and they still replace it with the same cheap part). For $180 Nick came to my office and had the problem fixed within 30 minutes. Nick was extremely courteous and even gave me a call when he was running a couple minutes late. I was very skeptical when my husband told me a mobile mechanic was coming to look at our car which made a huge pop and barely got into our parking space the night before. My first thought was, he's going to charge some astronomical price for the cost of driving out because, well, he can. Also, I was terrified because I know next to nothing about vehicles and my husband wasn't home so I was sure he was going to tell me I needed a new "Johnson rod" or something...to which I would've replied, "oh yeah, mmhmm, I thought that might be the case." Long story short, Nick is the happiest, most honest mechanic I've met. He was at our place at 6 in the morning and while I could barely see straight he was chattering pleasantly the whole time (he had already been fixing someone else's car that morning too!). I suppose our jeep's insides are not laid out in the most convenient manner because he had to climb up and into the hood to get the broken spark plug and he did all with nary a complaint. He even waved and smiled "good morning" at our neighbor when they came out. When all was said and done and the car was purring nicely, I braced myself for the fee - my jaw literally dropped when he told me his extremely generous price. I needed brakes and an oil change for my Nissan Titan, and while I did not start my search for a mobile service, I am so thankful that I gave OC Mobile Mechanic a call and ultimately my business. I've seriously just found my preferred mechanic and method of service. I called a few days in advance and was instantly put at ease by Nick the owner describing his business process, and giving me straight forward estimate for parts and labor. Honestly, I dread having to find a good mechanic, and often find myself going to larger more expensive shops (Pep Boys, Big-O, etc.) just because I hate dealing with dramas associated with poor experiences. (I switched this review over from a previous account "OC Mobile Mechanic". Gave me an opportunity to talk to Nick again on the phone, and reminds me what a great dude he is. Very kind and professional and cares deeply about his business and reputation. Couldn't recommend him more!) Thank God for Nick. This dude totally came to my rescue this past weekend. I had friends in town visiting from Idaho and we were all trying to get to Disneyland when my car died on the side of the 105. We had the car towed to our hotel in Anaheim and made an appointment to have Nick come out the next morning. Over the phone he asked appropriate questions so that he could diagnose the issue, and he was 100% correct: I had a faulty alternator. I sent my friends to Disneyland on the shuttle the next morning and Nick arrived just shortly after the time he told me he'd be there (with a phone call telling me he was running a bit late... very professional). He ran tests to ensure that the alternator was the problem and it was. The interesting thing about it was the Nick hadn't anticipated that my alternator would be in the location it was. When he quoted the price the night before that was with an alternator that he thought would be easily swapped out and he'd be in and out in an hour. Well... to get my old alternator out he had to move some other major parts around just to reach it. I could tell that he was very frustrated with himself that he hadn't anticipated it would be that much work. But still... he just focused and he went to work. He got the old one out and the new one installed in about three hours. What I was MOST impressed by was his professionalism when the job was all said and done. He told me that he grossly underestimated the amount of time and work it would take him to get the job done, but because he is a man of his word he would stick to the price quoted on the phone the night before. I cannot even express how much I appreciated this. I've been struggling financially lately and the unexpected car repair as quoted was even a stretch for my budget, but I knew it had to be done for my car to operate properly. Other car repair places would have just invoiced the job at the hourly rate it took to repair it and disregarded the quote altogether, but thankfully Nick stuck to his word and only charged me the quote. Saturday night my car breaks down on the freeway and the stress starts to build. Sunday morning my boyfriend looks up a mobile mechanic to save me the problem of finding a tow truck and we come across Mobile Mechanick. I knew this was going to be a good experience from the first phone call. Nick gave me a straight up diagnosis over the phone, no messing around with "wellllll it might be this this or this but if you come in we can take a look". He let me know how much it would cost to get my alternator replaced (and he had one in stock!!) and that the earliest he could help me out would be early Tuesday morning. And I mean early, 6:30am! BUT that was perfect because it meant my car would be in working order in time for me to get to work. He double checked the appt with me on Monday, and was even able to accommodate the fact that my parking spot is in an underground parking garage. He showed up on time, was very courteous, and immediately confirmed his initial diagnosis. He brought his tools out, tested the battery, removed the belt, removed the alternator, installed the new alternator, charged my battery (while he was doing all the other work), and then reset the belt and started my car. It was all done efficiently, cleanly, and thoroughly. He gave the car a good double check before he started it and showed me the voltage on my battery to show the new alternator was working. The thing has a 1 year guarantee so if any problems come up during that time replacement and work is free. After that, I'll have to pay for labor if it needs repairs. Nick was awesome, stuck to his original quoted price and gave me some of his business cards so I can pass on word about him to my friends, which I've already started to do. Honest and reliable mechanic with such a convenient service!! My Jeep would not start this morning and being that today is Sunday and most repair shops are closed, I knew I needed a mobile mechanic. I searched Yelp for the best one and found Nick, who was able to diagnose the problem right over the phone and was at my house within 30 minutes. Nick provides honest service you can't really find anymore. My Jeep had been having intermittent startup problems in the last few months. I brought it to my auto mechanic last week and they said I needed a new starter so I had that replaced for almost $200. Today, the same startup problem occurred. If you are looking for a honest, reasonable, reliable knowledgable mechanic, Nick is your go-to guy. I panicked when I was quoted over a thousand for a fix on a sway bar end, and was told my only option was also new tires AND wheels. Nick came to my office, and saved me a huge amount of money, placed spacers on my wheels, and fixed my car in a half hour. He talked himself out of his labor warranty without even first hearing what was wrong with my car. He did full head gasket repair in 4/2014. Claimed his copy of my receipt said 2013 when my copy said 2014 and I didn't even own a car in 2013! Two stars because he does follow up (multiple times) to see if you still need his services, but I refuse to do business with a man who tries that hard to talk himself out of a warranty. I knew I was in good hands with Robert when the very first thing he did was pull my dipsticks and sniff them. It's something my grandfather (who was an excellent mechanic) would have done, and it's not something you see a lot of guys do these days. I recently bought a used motorhome, and I needed to find someone to give it an oil change, and just a general inspection. I called the RV places first, and they could make me an appointment in a couple of MONTHS. So I called the Ford dealership...they could do it but wouldn't make me an appointment. Basically I would have to get it there early in the morning and leave it all day with no guarantee that they would even get to it. I figured for what I would have paid at the dealership I could find a mobile mechanic, and a little Yelp research lead me to Robert at Mobile Mechanic. He was very professional, and was even able to service the on board generator on my RV too! And best of all he was able to see me within a few days of contacting him, and I was able to work from home the entire time my motorhome was being serviced. Had a problem swapping out an old starter with a stripped bolt. Nick came, and fixed it in no time at all, and installed the new starter. I would have never have been able to do it myself, and a shop would have charged me an arm and a leg. A great guy with reasonable prices, and great skills. I found Mobile Mechanic on Yelp, read the reviews and decided to call him about my F-150, which conked out on the 210 yesterday--dead fuel pump. It was Sat afternoon and Nick and answered the phone, diagnosed the problem, and quoted me a price. I was surprised when he offered to drive to my home in Pasadena Sun. morning early. He showed up on time and did the job right in my driveway--had to work under the car to drop the tank and get to the pump. Nick had the parts and tools needed and was done and gone by 1030AM. He really saved me when he also noticed that I was dangerously low on oil. I thought it was a broken pressure guage but he didn't beleive me and checked it out. If I would have drove it any more, it would probably have damaged the engine. We filled it with oil and he took off to enjoy the rest of his Sunday. All in all an extremely positive experience.
