[Appointment]: I called 15 minutes before the closing time and the staff said first come first serve tomorrow morning (they don't take appointments). I came here 15 minutes before the opening time (opens at 8:30 AM) and I was the 3rd person in line. [Process]: Super easy - the staff at the cashier counter will ask the reason of your visit then follow by filling out a form with customer's phone number and full name (no need to fill out the entire form). Next drop the key and the staff will call you back once the service is completed. I was surprised to hear a call back after one hour and the staff said the service was done. He said no tire rotation is needed due to tires are still relatively new and also pumped air for my tires. [Price]: They accept cards but only Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. No check, American Express, Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, pay by tap, etc. Customers pay slightly less with cash. $125 for labor cost (replace oil & filter = $25 and brake flush = $100) and $50 for total parts (Oil 0w20 = $25 and brake fluid = $25). THE PRICE $55 for a full synthetic oil change. I called like 10 places before coming here because I have trust issues with pricing and too much free time on a Saturday morning. Everywhere was between $48-$60. So Thanh isn't cheap and it isn't expensive. It just is what it is. Groupon had better deals but those shops aren't open on weekends and I work Monday through Friday like a normal person so that's completely useless to me. THE SERVICE It's a hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese auto shop in Garden Grove. If you know, you know. If you don't know, let me calibrate your expectations real quick -- nobody's greeting you at the door. There's no intake form. No one's explaining the 47-point inspection they're about to perform on your vehicle. You pull up, say oil change, hand over your keys, and go sit down. That's it. That's the whole interaction. I wasn't mad about it. I actually kind of preferred it? Like I don't need you to be my friend I just need you to change my oil and not charge me for stuff I didn't ask for. And they didn't. So. We're good. THE WAIT 45 minutes. No AC. It was 90 degrees. The furniture is trashed. I was in there with 3 other people and nobody said a single word to each other the entire time. Just four grown adults sitting in a hot room staring at their phones waiting for this to be over. I felt like we were all in purgatory together but none of us wanted to acknowledge it. There's no bathroom. I'm gonna say that again. There is no bathroom. I don't know what you're supposed to do with that information but I needed you to have it before you show up here with a large iced coffee. THE ONE THING THAT ACTUALLY IMPRESSED ME They take card. No surcharge. If you're not from around here that means nothing to you. But in Little Saigon? Half these shops look at your debit card like you just handed them a seashell. Cash is king out here. The fact that I didn't have to drive around looking for a Wells Fargo ATM that charges me $3.50 to touch my own money was honestly the highlight of the visit. FINAL WORD Thanh is the kind of place that does exactly one thing and does it fine. Not amazing. Fine. You'll pay a fair price, you'll sweat for 45 minutes, you won't have access to a toilet, and your car will have new oil in it. If that works for you then this is your spot. I am so sad that this place have let me down so horribly. I have been coming here for years for my oil change but now I will not be coming back. This place did not screw back the underbody engine cover tightly enough on my last oil change and this weekend I took my family to Las Vegas and the cover came loose! It was during the middle of the night pitch black on the 15 highway and I had to pull over twice to get it looked at because the cover would drag on the road and cause a huge noise and possibly spark. Their negligence in putting back the engine cover tightly enough put my family and myself in serious danger that night. We almost got hit several times as we had to drive extra slowly to make it off the highway to a gas station where we can have more light to look at the issue. Cars were also passing me super closely when I had to pull over to the side of the highway. Please train your mechanic better! I am revising this review because of the dedication of this repair shop. This was the only repair shop I went to for several years. When I first bought my 2007 Honda CRV from a private seller, this auto repair shop fixed the AC compressor (replaced it and recharged it). When there weren't any problems, I went to them for my routine oil changes. My car is old, and has a lot of miles. A year and a half ago, it shut down near the freeway and I felt confident to leave my car overnight. The first place I told the tow truck to bring it to was this shop. Turns out that my alternator (which powers my battery) was completely done for. They replaced this as well. Amongst other things, they've fixed my starter, and when my check engine light came on again last year, they replaced my O2 sensors. This is a business I have no issues trusting with my money. They can tell me how much a repair will cost and I'll just go out and make sure they get it in cash.
