Sad to update my review…read more Charlie and I came here for years when Dr. Tony was the vet. We both loved Dr. Tony for his professionalism and passion for animals. Upon our last visit we learned Dr. Tony has since left the practice and we noticed a huge difference-- but I was open to giving the new vet a chance, thinking maybe he was having a bad day that day and it was just a bad first impression. This weekend, Charlie had a stomach bug so I took him to the emergency vet on Sunday. On Monday I called the vet office and asked if the vet could give me a call as Charlie was acting extremely lethargic after leaving the ER and I wasn't sure if this was normal or if Charlie should come into the vet office. I was told the vet would give us a call in the morning and early afternoon at the latest. I called back around 2PM as I still hadn't heard from the vet, and this time I was told he would be contacting us within an hour. The vet never called or reached out. It's just transparent to us that this new vet is not passionate for his practice and patients the way Dr. Tony was. Thankfully today Charlie seems to feel a little better. Almost all of our friends are directing us to GoldenHeart in Windermere. Excited to give them a try, but it's definitely sad to leave the office we've been visiting for years.

Back in November, I brought my dog in for his phenobarbital bloodwork, and I was told multiple different instructions; first that it had to be done at a certain time, then that I had to bring him back hours later. As a healthcare provider with a demanding schedule, this created unnecessary disruption, but I still tried to be understanding. Today, I arrived for another scheduled appointment, only to be told after sitting there from 8:06 to 8:45 that he did not actually need his phenobarbital levels checked until next month. If that was the case, why did the front desk schedule the appointment in the first place? My time, energy, and travel should not be wasted due to internal miscommunication. To make matters worse, I was also told today that my dog had not had his annual labs since 2023. That shocked me because I have been coming here consistently, and no one has ever mentioned this before. Hearing that in 2026 makes me question how closely they have actually been monitoring his care. If they are at "full capacity" or overwhelmed, then clients deserve transparency and not to discover years later that something so basic was overlooked. What pushed this experience into unacceptable territory was the manager's response. Instead of approaching the situation as professional an educational opportunity or even showing concern, his posture and body language made it clear he did not care. No ownership. He simply said that if we're "not lining up," maybe I should find another vet. I have never encountered an office manager so dismissive of legitimate questions and concerns. If this is how issues are addressed, I can only imagine how many other clients are dealing with the same inconsistencies. Veterinary care should be grounded in communication, accuracy, and genuine compassion for both the animals and their owners. The lack of consistency here makes you question the level of attention being paid to diagnoses and treatment. It is unacceptable and deeply disappointing for a clinic I trusted for so many years.

As one might guess, "extremely difficult" doesn't even begin to explain the efforts trying to get eye drops/medication into a 130lb-all muscle- dogs sensitive eye. Due to swelling, our inability to successfully get the medication in his eyeball (even with a healthy dose of sedative & pain meds), it took us little over a month to finally get good news today at our appt that his eye has improved. I tell the whole story just to say it was very stressful, we really thought we were going to go though all this time, energy and money for nothing after so long of not seeing improvements - we thought the worst. We were dealing with all of this too, while I'm 6 months pregnant..... and from start to finish, there is nowhere else we would have rather been to get through this; The receptionists who greet you and answer the phones when you call are just the sweetest ever and you can tell as soon as you walk in that they genuinely care, the whole team who was in there supporting us trying to look at his eye (so sorry for his feisty attitude at the start of that part at every visit), the doctors (shout out Doctor Tatiane), who were so patient with him, so understanding, explained every step along the way and worked with us on a plan that would be best for us, the whole team (like 4-5 people came out) who helped me load him up safely into my SUV while he was still pretty sedated, and the couple weekend emails that got answered same day. I'm sure I'm missing some positive details but in summary we hope to not have any eye issues ever again...but if we do, we will be back. I have never had a complaint about Dr. Close's veterinary care, but today's experience ended any possibility of my returning. Between Leroy's extensive treatment and the veterinary care paid for by his owner, Joe, and those who helped with his recovery, a substantial amount of money has been spent with this practice. That made today's interaction particularly disappointing. The irony is that earlier today, while waiting at Ocoee Animal Hospital, I posted a positive Facebook update about Leroy's progress and checked in at the hospital feeling happy. He had gained another two pounds, and I was genuinely pleased with how far he has come. I certainly did not walk in looking for a confrontation or with any existing complaint about the quality of his care. Ocoee Animal Hospital has a policy charging clients $50 if they are more than 15 minutes late. I have never been late for an appointment. Unfortunately, long waits for the doctor have been a recurring issue, and today I waited approximately one hour. What made the delay even harder to understand was that there were no cars in the parking lot while I was there. I understand that appearances do not always tell the whole story and that veterinary practices can get backed up for many reasons, but from a client's perspective, waiting an hour in what appeared to be a quiet practice was frustrating. When Dr. Close finally came in, I raised the issue calmly and, frankly, more diplomatically than I sometimes do. I simply pointed out that if the practice expects clients to respect its time enough to impose a $50 late fee, it seems reasonable for the practice to show the same respect for its clients' time. I explained that the recurring wait times were actually why Leroy's owner, Joe, could not bring him today. He could not afford to lose that much time waiting, so I volunteered to bring Leroy instead. I suggested that perhaps the practice was overbooking appointments. Rather than acknowledge the concern, apologize for the delay, or simply discuss it professionally, Dr. Close became defensive and told me not to come back. I was genuinely stunned by that response. I was not angry, confrontational, or questioning her medical ability. In fact, I was unusually measured in how I raised what I thought was a legitimate customer-service concern. My opinion of the practice changed only after that conversation. A veterinary practice is certainly entitled to expect clients to arrive on time. Clients are equally entitled to expect reasonable respect for their own time, especially when the practice imposes a financial penalty for being late. After the amount of time, trust, and money that has gone into Leroy's care there, being told not to return simply because I raised that concern was unnecessary, unprofessional, and deeply disappointing. I won't be returning, as requested.
