I was referred to Ocoee Animal Hospital by a friend who also contributed to Leroy's medical recovery fund. I have never had a complaint about Dr. Close's veterinary care, but today's experience ended any possibility of my returning. Between Leroy's extensive treatment and the veterinary care paid for by his owner, Joe, and those who helped with his recovery, a substantial amount of money has been spent with this practice. That made today's interaction particularly disappointing. The irony is that earlier today, while waiting at Ocoee Animal Hospital, I posted a positive Facebook update about Leroy's progress and checked in at the hospital feeling happy. He had gained another two pounds, and I was genuinely pleased with how far he has come. I certainly did not walk in looking for a confrontation or with any existing complaint about the quality of his care. Ocoee Animal Hospital has a policy charging clients $50 if they are more than 15 minutes late. I have never been late for an appointment. Unfortunately, long waits for the doctor have been a recurring issue, and today I waited approximately one hour. What made the delay even harder to understand was that there were no cars in the parking lot while I was there. I understand that appearances do not always tell the whole story and that veterinary practices can get backed up for many reasons, but from a client's perspective, waiting an hour in what appeared to be a quiet practice was frustrating. When Dr. Close finally came in, I raised the issue calmly and, frankly, more diplomatically than I sometimes do. I simply pointed out that if the practice expects clients to respect its time enough to impose a $50 late fee, it seems reasonable for the practice to show the same respect for its clients' time. I explained that the recurring wait times were actually why Leroy's owner, Joe, could not bring him today. He could not afford to lose that much time waiting, so I volunteered to bring Leroy instead. I suggested that perhaps the practice was overbooking appointments. Rather than acknowledge the concern, apologize for the delay, or simply discuss it professionally, Dr. Close became defensive and told me not to come back. I was genuinely stunned by that response. I was not angry, confrontational, or questioning her medical ability. In fact, I was unusually measured in how I raised what I thought was a legitimate customer-service concern. My opinion of the practice changed only after that conversation. A veterinary practice is certainly entitled to expect clients to arrive on time. Clients are equally entitled to expect reasonable respect for their own time, especially when the practice imposes a financial penalty for being late. After the amount of time, trust, and money that has gone into Leroy's care there, being told not to return simply because I raised that concern was unnecessary, unprofessional, and deeply disappointing. I've been bringing my sphynx cats here for a long time and today I've made a decision to find a new vet. I feel like every time I go there we are playing a guessing game and they NEVER are able to diagnose ANY of my cats EVER. I get that they might not always know, but this is now a pattern and I'm tired of bringing my cats back to the vet over and over again and they never find the underlying issue. It's not just one time or one cat, it's all the time. I feel like I get a better diagnosis on my own using AI. They don't ask the right questions, they don't follow through and they just want to charge me lots of money for NOTHING. Last time we asked the vet about the cat's diet, she said she would get to that. Did she? NO! We had to call and ask for this since she never provided the information we asked for. They love giving prescriptions just to try them out to see if they will work. Is this how a HUMAN doctor works? I know the cat cannot tell us what is wrong, but seriously, let's not just start drugging them hoping it will work. Also the vet didn't bother to look at my cat's records before examining him because she would have noted this issue before and blood tests were done before. She did another blood test and guess what? They were the same as before so I wasted money on this. I'm done. read more

I am forever grateful for the staff at Ocoee Animal Hospital, starting with Lisa and April at the front, and Jen the tech and the always amazing Dr. Stroud! I am in town dog sitting for a friend, when my dog got gravely ill.. she had been having issues for a couple of weeks. Instead of ending up at an ER vet who charges outrageous prices as they know they can, I contacted Ocoee Animal Hospital (my friend I am sitting for goes to this Vet) to see if they would see my beloved Hunny. Lisa was so compassionate to my situation and booked Hunny the next day. I knew my dog was failing, as she is an old dog, and God was in this from beginning to end because He DOES care about His animals. To my surprise, the Vet who walked into the exam room was the Vet I went to when living in Gotha, Dr. Kristen Stroud!!! She actually took care of 3 of my dogs, at a different practice!! What are the chances she would be there?! Truly a God thing. She knew right away that it was time for Hunny to join her sisters in puppy Heaven.. she did not make me go through the rigors and expense of unnecessary tests.. she knew by the look in my dogs eyes, her condition and demeanor.. Because she KNEW my dog from the past. Thank you so much to everyone. I know God was in this as Dr Stroud only works a couple Saturdays a month, yet there she was, with her kind and loving hand to guide my beloved pet to the next phase. Great establishment! Friendly and caring staff! My dog is skittish and can be intimidating at times. They approach the situation delicately and with compassion. Much appreciated since the last vet I tried surrounded my dog with 3 vet techs, held him down and escalated the situation way further than I've ever seen. I also made the mistake of feeding my dog the morning of a teeth cleaning. Since dogs get put under for it, they can't have food in their stomach for safety reasons. I had forgotten this, and out of routine fed my dog the morning of. They squeezed my dogs cleaning to just 4 days after. Which is VERY quick since most cleanings are scheduled weeks/months in advance. It's worth noting: their COVID19 protocol is pretty solid. Some nitpicky people might see some kinks in the armor, but they exceeded my expectations. read more

Rave review and shout out to Ocoee Animal Hospital! Incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and courteous staff. Treatments done on my mini dauschund, Ellie, showed immediate positive results. Dr. Close and Dr. Stroud treated pancreatitis for my fur baby and had her healed in less than 24 hours, which other offices had been unable to treat. A few months later, they also discovered she had Cushing's Disease and treated it immediately. She's been healthy ever since. Not only are they prompt and accessible, but they truly care for the well being of your animals and will follow up to make sure the treatments are working. They go out of their way to make sure Ellie feels safe and comfortable while she's in their care. She has extreme anxiety to being crated. So they let me bring her anxiety bed for her to lay in while waiting for her treatments. I don't know of any other vet in town who has the compassion and empathy Ocoee Animal Hospital has. What a great hospital. I had to bring in my cat in at the last minute on a Saturday and without hesitation and even though they were fully booked, they still allowed me to bring in my fur kid. The front desk was very friendly. We didn't have to wait long to get into an exam room. The doctor and assistants were all so friendly and took care of my skittish cat. I highly recommend this place. They genuinely seem to care. A lot of other places are not like that. read more

Dr. Close has been great with my Scottie. He had surgery to remove a toe with cancer in the nail bed 4 years ago as well as surgery for a non cancerous growth on his mouth 2 years ago and recovered well. My dog is 12 years old and in good health. I found Dr. Close to be a good listener, considerate about providing financial details up front, cautious and conscientious. I was very happy with this vet until this week! I boarded my dog there over spring break 4 nights and he was returned to me in terrible shape. When I picked him up a notice he had not been bathed and he smelled horrible. Upon arriving home I found a large tick by his collar! I returned to the vet immediately and they found several more ticks and gave him frontline. Sure to tell me the frontline treatment was complimentary are you kidding me were the ticks and fleas complimentary too? Arriving home again with my dog is when the real fun began you could see the ticks and fleas jumping off of him on to the tile floor!!!! He had diarrhea, was dirty and smelled horrible. I was told not to bathe him because of the frontline treatment for 1 week! Really!! Spent the night cleaning carpets, tile, dogs crate, and had to throw out his bedding after seeing more ticks!! I'm off to another vet today to have him checked out and then gotta vacuum the car to be sure its not infested with ticks and fleas too!!! read more

They have patience for a concerned dog-mom with lots of questions. Since Dr. Barman and Dr. Hall have left the place has not been the same. They do not have time for appointments and I think they must be overworked because the friendly "how can I help" attitude is no longer there. Nine years later, we are still bringing all four of our pets the See Dr. Close and her staff. She is very kind and caring - she takes the time to call to make sure our babies are doing well after she sees them.
