I was very happy with doing business with Michael and Alvin. My computer had the possibility that it had been exposed to some malware, so I took it to them to clean it and run tests on it. MOBILETECH On a Sunday, prior to the shelter-in-place during these dark times, I went to MobileTech Computing, in Corte Madera, a place where I had wonderful success in the past, making me an ardent fan of Michael Kwei, and associates Roberto and Alvin, all of whom perform magic. On my first visit, my data was miraculously recovered, seemingly lost forever, not only saving me from a near breakdown, but also only being charged for the time Michael quoted, which was two hours, rather than charging for the entire six hours it actually took to transfer the data, which included the unfortunate crashing of my old Mac. And then with breathtaking generosity, Michael suggested that I borrow his own USB HDD rather than my having to purchase one to transfer the data to my new machine at home. A rarity, indeed! On my recent visit, I entered a sparklingly clean shop, the large counter glistening with freshness, and Alvin and I keeping a safe distance. I had a specific question about social media and its dizzying intricacies, and Alvin very patiently and clearly explained the inner workings of it all, with clarifying logic. It was immeasurably helpful. And to make the experience even more remarkable, I actually received a discount because it was a conversation, albeit revelatory, and not an actual fix, which was profoundly appreciated. I brought a hard drive into them them after I had dropped it. Turns out that I actually didn't get service from them because it didn't really make sense to move forward. Wonderful people! So kind and helpful. My trusty old iMac (10 years +) froze, and I was unable fix it. So I drove it over to MobileTech. I am no spring chicken, so when they saw what an armful this was for me, they quickly assured me that they would gladly bring it back to me and set up again after repairs were made. They kept it overnight, determined that the OS had become corrupted, made the repairs in good time, upgraded to the Sierra OS and drove the computer to my home. As promised, they reconnected everything at no extra cost, made sure that my printer was connected and working, and checked to be sure that the Microsoft Word program I normally use was compatible with the upgrade. No files had been lost or moved, and everything worked perfectly. My son had thought we might need to purchase a new computer in the near future, but MobileTech assured me that this old friend was good for many years to come! Mike is amazing. He helped my husband several years ago recover data from a broken external hard drive and this year he has helped me when my computer was giving me one problem after another. When I bought a wireless ink-jet printer, I couldn't figure out how to connect it to the internet. Mike Kwei came to my house within 24 hours on the weekend; he quickly and efficiently set everything up. Afterwards he stayed to show me certain features and make a couple of suggestions to save money on ink. I don't know what I would've done without him, because HP online support wasn't available at that time. A few weeks later, I had an on-going issue with my 10-year-old MacBook Pro. With Covid closures, I wasn't able to get the usual help at the Apple Store, so once again I turned to Mike. He helped me obtain a slightly older version of MicroSoft Office (online) that was required. Trying to do the installation myself, I got hopelessly confused. After several hours I contacted Mike who was available by email and phone to help figure out the best solution. Ultimately he helped me decide that the best course of action would be to simply leave my computer the way it is now (everything actually works fine). In the coming year or two, I can replace my faithful MacBook when and if it gives out. For all his time and trouble (on the phone/responding to emails) he asked for nothing. My work PC would not boot up so I sought out Mobile Tech since they were local. Bill MacMillan (Corte Madera store) assisted me. He understood my sense of urgency since my work depended on my PC. Upon diagnosis, Bill found a hard drive issue and made the appropriate recommendations. He recovered the majority of my data, installed all of my programs, updated all security software and installed a new Solid State Drive (SDD) all in a few days. I was back up and running before the end of the week. A month later I had some problems with the new security software he loaded on my PC and he spent the day remotely diagnosing the problem and ultimately replaced the software with another one. Bill's customer interaction can be a little abrasive but overall a dedicated and fairly reliable resource. read more

I needed help synching my laptop to a used monitor a friend had given to me. Michael Kwei was very helpful, giving me advice and sharing contact info so I could send photos of the ports so that he could send me a link for which cable to buy on Amazon. He would not accept payment for this. My attempts at synching failed and I brought the equipment to his store to get his help. Turns out, I had misidentified the iMac as a monitor, but it would work fine on its own as a computer! Of course, I felt stupid...but Michael patiently told me my options and offered some advice with the iMac. Mike refused payment, saying that nothing had been fixed, but I felt bad because he had given me his professional time and advice. I had the best experience with Mobile Tech Computing this last weekend. I am not the best at computer stuff so I need help now and again. I had already tried another company to help me with my transfer of items in a 20 year old e-mail account to a new e-mail account and after over an hour at their shop was told that it was impossible to transfer that data. Wrong. Called Mobile Tech Computing on Saturday at 3:45 and they said I could come in at 4:30. Off I went and two hours later I had all my data copied - not only to my new e-mail account but also to my hard drive. I worked with Alvin who explained everything in an understandable way and suggested I video tape him showing me how to do these things for myself in the future. He did not talk down to me or make me feel like my problem was ridiculous. He took his time and taught me so much in our short time together. I ended up with much more than I had even come in for. Michael actually picks up the phone! He is very responsive, communicative, professional, and thorough. He explains things in a very patient manner and goes over it as many times as needed. His rates are extremely affordable and he's fast - 2 days turnaround to order and install a new Samsung 2TB solid state drive. He calls and texts during the process to clarify and give me updates. He also installed two free spyware apps and other useful freebies for me to try out. I especially appreciated him uninstalling unwanted tools and apps that I don't need on my system pestering me constantly about scheduling updates. Our whole family is using cooling pads now at his recommendation, and we don't know how we ever went without them. I can't say enough great things about Michael!
