Tried every possible online-suggested solution including restarting with a recovery USB drive. Nothing worked. Carlos was awesome and super quick. I had two laptops to get fixed and he did it in under two days for around $300. (Others had quoted me $500-650). And I had some interesting issues. Laptop 1 was just a Dell latitude 7490, average laptop, which had battery and memory issues. But laptop 2 was a super nice custom laptop I bought from a semi sketchy reseller. A Dell XPS 9530 w i9 processor, 32gb DDR5 ram, Nvidia 4070 graphics, etc. I was worried there was spyware somewhere on it, but it was great great hardware, so I wanted to wipe all the software and all the firmware from the device AND all the individual components, even down to the code managing the rgb keyboard etc etc. Carlos did it all, and reinstalled everything including a new windows 11 pro license (so I could get the bitlocker encryption they offer). I was looking for trustworthy computer repair shops and came across TL repair shop with many good reviews. I read through most of them and decided to give the owner a call. I explained my problem to him, and he was very patient and even gave me a guess to what he thought might've been wrong. I came in the next day to get it officially checked, and he came to the conclusion that my type c port was integrated into the main board. He then gave me another shops contact info, saying they could most likely help me. He didn't have me pay any diagnostic fee, which I thought was great, considering my only current issue was a battery issue. i had a kaltio wih a bad speaker.The speaker potentially is a major repair since the design has the speaker mounted inside the lalptop, not the edges. As a resuolt the cost to repair due to time would be more than the laptop is worth. Carlos verified what repair would be required, and recommended it not be performed due to the cost. He would not accept any money for his time looking at the laptop. He was not required to work for free, but did so. Who could ask for a better repair shop? read more

Having been around PCs since the early 80's, I could pretty much tell that the battery in my wife's IBM clone had died. I've changed batteries, added peripherals, and expanded memories over the years but I'm pushing 80 now and neither my eyesight nor my hands are all that reliable. Based on a friend's casual recommendation, we called TL after swatting away a couple other estimates that seemed pretty outrageous to me. The owner listened carefully and agreed that my diagnosis was the one to check out first. (Agreeing with me exhibited excellent judgement, of course.) Knowing the rough price of this battery and approximate amount of labor necessary, his estimate was quite reasonable. So we dropped it off, then hustled back about 36 hours later, repaired and working like new. And the final price as at the low end of his estimate! Fast, efficient, and reasonable. Carlos was able to troubleshoot a hardware problem I had with my backup Asus laptop. I knew it had a failing hard drive (SSD), but he determined that it also had a bad connector connecting the hard drive to the motherboard. He copied some files I needed from the failing hard drive and saved them onto my USB thumb drive, and replaced the drive with a new SSD. He also reinstalled the operating system. He also gave me some great advice about buying a new USB video camera rather than trying to fix an intermittent issue with the built-in video camera, which would have been very expensive because it would have required removing the screen to get to the camera. He has very excellent computer repair skills, and for a great price. I'd give him 10 stars if I could. read more

What do car mechanics, plumbers, dentists and computer repair guys have in common? You really need to find a good one if you want to avoid big problems. I'm good with the first three, but since my go-to computer shop closed due to a retirement I've been skating on thin ice for two years. I have to admit to practicing unsafe computing, plus being really impatient. When the machine tells me it's doing something please wait, I figure it will just have to finish that job next time I turn the thing on. Carlos Luna's shop is proof you can still find the real thing in Marin. But you do have to look past the big malls to get there. He knows what he's doing and is really forthcoming with information. My computer is a small-form gaming item that is very compact, but the problem wasn't hardware. Rather, I had corrupted the operating system with my impatience and whatever else, so nothing worked. I went to TL computer shop to attempt to revive an old Jaz drive that wouldn't fire. Carlos attempted to help me even during COVID. After the first regular attempt didn't work, he kept the drive and attempted to get it to work in multiple environments. Carlos is by-far the most talented computer expert I have ever encountered (and I'm 61-years-old). Once again he did a fabulous and rapid job for us seamlessly transfering pst files, contacts, and folders from a very-old version of Outlook to a newer one on a different computer. He is able to do things no one else has been able to do for us. I used to teach college-level PC classes, so I can do most things, but transferring Outlook pst files, folders and contacts from one Outlook version to another and/or from one computer to another is not one of them. Over many years, I have never been able to find a person, besides Carlos, who can do that. In the recent past, Carlos also has been able to recover files from a corrupted drive that even the techs at the college where my wife works couldn't accomplish. Carlos can diagnose and repair problems others can't. ANOTHER FAILED DRIVE---ANOTHER 5-STAR REVIEW! Last year Carlos replaced the failed hard drive in my wife's all-in-one PC, and I left a 5-star review that ended with the claim that Carlos *also* knows how to repair *Macs*. Well, now I have proof! The hard drive of my 2015 27" iMac failed, and I brought it in yesterday. Carlos opened it up the same day and confirmed it took a standard 3.5" drive. He recommended a specific replacement (Western Digital, Black) and I had it overnight-shipped from Best Buy. Today, 24 hours after bringing the iMac to Carlos, my iMac is working again, and with a faster drive that has double the capacity of the Apple original! All it took was a few hours for me to reinstall the complete system from my Time Machine backup, and now I can work again!
