But it breaks 2x per year, almost always at 5pm on Friday & it takes the VA weeks to fix it. Dad was admitted to Mather last week with new heart issues after his VA bed broke AGAIN, and was due to be discharged before his VA bed was repaired. :( We contacted Nick @Bee Medical in Rancho to see if we could buy a comparable bed ourselves, out of pocket, to be used as an instant back-up now, and for future VA issues. Nick went through all the options with us, found the best bed to meet my dad's specific body mechanics/limitations, AND our budget (no pressure to upgrade/exceed our budget). Nick assured us he that would have a bed in our home THE NEXT DAY, even if the one we bought was delayed in delivery (he'd bring us a rental for temporary use so Dad could come home ASAP). What a FUN day on the E-Bikes!…read more This place was recommended by Michael T., our Yelper extraordinaire, and I'm so glad he pointed us in this direction! We decided last minute on Thursday night to sign up for the Pine Nut E-Bike rental, and what a great decision that turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, everything was easy and organized. It is recommended that you sign up ahead of time and fill out the waiver on their website. We were checked in by Aiden, who was fantastic. He had already received our waivers the night before, so everything was set up and ready to go when we arrived. He took the time to explain how to use their E-bikes, which was helpful even though we have an E-bike of our own. Their bikes were really nice, comfortable, and super easy to use. Aiden also got us fitted with helmets and gave us a map with some trail suggestions. Then we were off for our adventure! ‍‍ We made our way to Pope Beach and Baldwin Beach--somehow we missed Kiva Beach along the way! We continued down Valhalla Road, Tallac Road, through the Tallac Historic Estate area, down toward Fallen Leaf Campground, and eventually through Camp Richardson. All together, we rode about 15 miles round trip and spent a little over 3 1/2 to 4 hours out exploring, sightseeing, enjoying the beaches, and taking in the absolutely beautiful scenery. It was such a gorgeous day to be outside, and being on an E-bike made it even more enjoyable because we could cover so much ground without feeling completely worn out. There was plenty to see, and it was such a fun way to experience the area. The value is fantastic! The bikes are awesome! The scenery is beautiful! And you really can't beat the price! We had such a great time and would definitely do this again. If you're looking for a fun way to explore the area, get outside, and see some beautiful sights, I highly recommend giving these E-bike rentals a try! Before we turned in our bikes, we stopped at camp Richardson ice cream parlor so good one scoop is seven bucks. Three scoops is 11, which is a great price however, you better be really hungry cause the scoops are huge. We had butter, pecan birthday cake and cookies and cream birthday cake was my favorite. Cons's: None (See my Pro Tips for first-time Ebike riders below.) Go back?: Absolutely More... CHECK! Never have ridden an Ebike and have wanted to for so long and finally got to go. What a BLAST! I totally enjoyed it. As a first time rider, I was a little nervous, and at 61, I don't want to get injuries! Outside of a being a little wobbly on my steering, this was fine and better when I got used to it. I started off hungry so stopped a couple of blocks away for lunch at Sonny's BBQ - it's excellent. Then, to the trail. This was a Friday, post Labor Day so crowds were thinner. Had a great ride, stopped for an ice cream cone at Camp Richardson and headed back. About 4 hours total. The bike can be FAST, which I don't recommend for first-timers. I'm pretty strong in my legs because I ride a Peloton regularly. I wanted the combination of pedaling/exercise, with some "Assist" when I was tired of working, or just wanted the free-feeling of wind in my hair, taking a ride. This was perfect for combining both. The Assist feature has 5 levels...this is how much work the bike is going to do for you. I went up to level 3 going up a small hill. The bike also has gears for how much "resistance" you want to feel on the wheel. This was nice, since I'm used to riding with resistance, I went to the highest gear which was 5 out of 5. The bike comes with a small pack on the back for your gear and a bike lock, so you are free to stop and go as you please. Next time, I would get there around 10-11AM, eat lunch or have a lunch packed, and spend an hour or 2 at a beach. My late start did not make that realistic. This is an activity someone could do alone. If you stay within Pine Nut's area of service, if you have any trouble, they will come help. And, worst case if your battery dies while you are out there, you just have to ride the bike on your own power. PRO TIPS: I started around 3PM. That was too late only because there are many shadows cast on the path at that time of day (heading from Pine Nut out to the beaches) and it's hard to see when a dip or uneven terrain is coming,
