My move from Oakland to Reno turned into an incredibly long and exhausting day. An unexpected vehicle problem delayed my departure, and by the time I reached Colfax, it was already evening. During the chaos of the move, I had even misplaced my prescription glasses, making night driving through unfamiliar mountain roads even more difficult. After a half day on the road, I knew continuing would not have been the safest decision. After finding that nearby businesses had already closed for the night, I came to this Chevron looking for a safe place to stop. Although overnight parking is generally not allowed for moving trucks, the older gentleman working that night listened to my situation with kindness and understanding and allowed me to stay for the night. This happened late in the evening on May 1, 2026. I unfortunately didn't catch his name, but I sincerely hope the management recognizes him for his professionalism and compassion. Sometimes the safest decision is knowing when to stop driving. His kindness didn't just help a tired customer--it helped an exhausted driver avoid unnecessary risks on dark mountain roads. This experience reminded me of another Chevron station that helped me during a previous move. Twice now, Chevron employees have shown me genuine care when I needed it most. Small acts of kindness like this make our roads safer for everyone. Thank you to the entire team at Colfax Chevron. I will always remember your kindness. Highly recommended.

This place has always been nice place to go to until I encounter a clerk that I have never seen…read morebefore. Around 7:15am on 7/15 a was not greeted by a normal nice clerk but a angry little man that was very rude. After having the worst attitude to his customers he rang me up for ice and I asked he what his problem was. The clerk stated that he hated the company I worked for and that I was never allowed to come back as he was yelling and cussing. Worst costumer service I have ever seen.

Nostalgia aside, this gas station is filled with anything you may need for a trip over the Donner Summit - hot food, cold food, hot drinks, cold drinks, snacks, t-shirts/sweatshirts, chains, engine oil, and so on. So when we had to do an emergency potty break both my husband and I where worried. But my fears where instantly calm when my one year old daughter and I walked in. The man behind the counter greeted us warmly the isles where wide enough for my little girl could toddle through. But the best part was the bathroom. They were spotless and I mean spotless. No pee pee stains here people, no vomit smell, and not even a hit of stank. As a parent of two kids, little things like that can make your day. Although the gas is a bit expensive it is one of the few gas stations if you are heading towards Yuba City. I like that there is a convenience store AND a Taco Bell inside ( with a drive thru as well ). There is no seating inside if you order Taco Bell within the store. The bathroom was clean as well as the store. They have some hot prepared food as well a ton of snacks. It is always busy....probably because of Taco Bell in Penn Valley!lol! The Mexican place has limited hours. I haven't tried it yet, but when I do, I will write a review. The convenience store and the gas is open 24 hours. There is a post office here, but there is no counter service. It's primarily. P.O. Box and mail pick up by local residents. They do have a 24 hour mail drop, with pick up in the early morning. The convenience store is nice. It's clean, and the people are friendly. I like the decorations in the store. It has your usual. Beer, wine, food, snack, snacks, sundries, and it also has a small hardware section, which a good amount is winter gear. It has a small but nice souvenir section as well. Prices are pretty typical on some items, and then on others, they are a bit higher. I got an amazing beef jerky, and the price was reasonable for what I got They do sell chains in the winter time, but believe me, you are going to pay for them. There's plenty of parking, including truck and RV parking. There's also a popular snow park in the winter time. The elephant in the room, is, of course, the gas prices. You are pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with only a few gas stations in the immediate area, so you are definitely going to pay for gas. The best thing to do is fill up in Sacramento, Auburn, or Reno. The gas in Colfax and Truckee is a bit higher, but still well below what they charge here. I like this store. I will be back. The young guy at the counter is about one of the most upbeat, down-to-earth people you'll ever meet, and makes everyone feel like a friend. They are so kind to my little boy, and I just know when we go in for "Muffin Mondays" we'll leave feeling happier than when we arrived. The store itself is always tidy and clean, and carries a good variety of convenient store items. But, it's the people that make this place an unexpected gem. P.S.
