My first experience at Moby Dick's was the one in Georgetown and I LOVED it. I usually don't review chains, and especially don't review 2 of the same restaurant, but I feel compelled to add a review here. They definitely skimp on the meat here. My lamb wrap was devoid of lamp. Maybe 3 pieces at most. The bread was OLD and HARD and I spent most of my time chewing it, pouring hot sauce to make it easier to eat, and eating salad that was pumped into my wrap. Where's the meat? My other friends with their gyro wraps had the same problem. No meat? Hesitate to give it lower stars only because if you hadn't been to the other location in G'town, you wouldn't know better. read more

Moby Dick's totally satiates your meat crave without having to drop a whole lot of dough. Very spacious inside and clean, you order and pick up your food at the front. Kabob-E-Chenjeh (chunks of tenderloin) $10.49 vs Kabob-E-Joojeh (boneless chicken breast) $8.99. I thought the tenderloin kabob platter was so much more juicier and tastier than the chicken kabob platter . MMM just chunks of big pieces of meat and buttery rice was something to drool over! Although you can choose to opt out the rice and get salad, I do wish they had a bit more green veggies or a side dish with the meat and rice. read more

Over the past year and a half, I have spent so much money here it's just silly. Moby Dick is, hands, down, the best quick Kabob experience I've had in NoVa, and I return again and again, often ordering the same items. My boyfriend specifically requests to go here just about every time he is in town, and of course, I'm happy to oblige. What I love: The quantity and quality - There's no scrimping on meat or vegetables here - the salads are substantial and have always had fresh vegetables, I've almost never had any bits of gristly or fatty meat, and they give you bread and rice for days. While the prices are a little higher than some other Kabob places in Arlington, you get what you pay for. The staff - I've never had a bad experience - they've always been friendly and quick, and even though your order is by number, I've often been addressed by name, after giving my credit card. I often call ahead, and they're fast to get to phone orders. Particular Dishes - The Combo II (one Kubideh (ground beef) and one Joojeh (Chicken) kabob), and the Swordfish Kabob are what I order most often - I've never been unhappy with either- they've been tender, juicy, and flavorful, and make sure to give them a good dusting of the sumac they have in shakers on the tables. The Zereshk Polo that you can sometimes get during the week is also different and tasty - it has currants and orange peel, with chicken, served over rice - sort of sweet, sort of tangy. I often stop in and get a side of Torshi - a vinegary diced vegetable mix, to eat over fish. It's powerful - don't go dumping a whole container orver your meal unless you've tried it before! What I don't love: Lamb - Sorry, but the lamb that I've had here hasn't been my favorite. I've found it to be just a little tough when I had cubed kabobs here before. The Doogh is an acquired taste - don't expect it to be sweet (it most certainly isn't sweet!!) I do think this particular Moby Dick is better than other locations (I've been to the one near Dupont Circle, the one in McLean, and the one in Kingstowne). read more

I absolutely love Moby Dick. I frequent the Arlington location at LEAST once every two weeks. I love carbs in general (who doesnt?!) and their rice here is mouth-watering! I think it must be the amount of butter they use, but I have never had better tasting rice in my life. I always get the Chenjeh with rice (steak with rice) platter. I also have had the chicken and thats tasty as well. It is simply satisfying food, and the portions are generous although they have gotten a bit smaller over the years. The price is fair and I absolutely love their mast-o kheyar. I have been to many places to try and see if I could beat Mobys- Rose Kabob in Vienna, Kabob Bazaar, Amoo's.... and for me personally, none of them come close to beating Moby Dick! read more

I've only heard by mouth that this place was good but maybe it's the location. I ordered a gyro sandwich for delivery and it came with the meat dry and on thick soggy pita :( I've taken gyros togo before and have not had a problem with the pita getting soggy. read more

I came yesterday to this Moby Dick location and ordered takeout. I was very disappointed most Moby Dick's I have been too it's very consistent and that's why I go. This was horrible I ordered salad and Kabob the salad was lettuce nothing else. The other location they have cucumbers feta cheeses olives and tomatoes. I had ordered a family platter instead of the big platter they used 3 plastic containers for the salad another disappointment. Will not be using this location again. read more

Got takeout again. This time I had the spicy ground chicken kabob. It was hot and fresh. It comes with a salad, rice, naan and yogurt sauce. Everything was delicious, but I do wish they had softer naan. It is a good portion, and I can get two meals out of it. (I am not a big eater). It satisfied my kabob craving! Food is consistent; service is fast. This is especially helpful for lunch orders during the weekday. Call ahead for the fastest service, although ordering at the counter won't set you back more than ten minutes. It's a bright, quiet, and clean space if you want to huddle down with your food there instead of heading back to the office. The daily specials are definitely the way to go for a savory, interesting meal. As much as I enjoy the baked chicken specials, I don't get it during the work day because you want to pick through the bones to get every last morsel. Not a good look when sitting at your desk. Wanted to like it here because I am a fan of their location in NW DC, but... The quick, attentive service and reasonable prices can't make up for how poor the food was at my lunch today. The falafel was soooo dry, the bread old and hard. They give you a generous portion of tzatiki sauce as if in hopes you won't notice how dry their food is. The salad and rice are at least fresh, but I was left completely unfulfilled. I would highly recommend taking the short drive to Astor Mediterranean (see my review below), the extra buck or two is worth it. read more

Good clean restaurant on Highland St with Washington Blvd address in Clarendon area. I dropped in for tea & cake. Moby Dick version is Persian dark Tea & Rolett their version of thin sponge cake. Being a Desi I asked for milk or cream to add to my tea. No milk or cream here. I was disappointed to hear that. I minus 2 star & granted them 3 stars only because the host/cashier man friendliness & politeness. Found out only chicken & lamb is halal to eat but beef is still western style kill. While I was there I saw many orders from EAT24. Busy place. Non-stop phone calls. I hope they get good living wage for the help here. read more

Moby Dick is exactly what you would expect. Pretty good food, prepared relatively quickly. The only thing preventing Moby Dick from a 4th star is the price. If you get any of the combos which are the size of a regular meal expect to spend upwards of $15. Moby Dick is a good place for locals to pickup solid, Americanized mid-eastern food. read more

As for food, it's decent to underwhelming. The lamb was under seasoned and the yogurt sauces are nothing compared to local kabob options, mainly kabob palace. The low rating is mostly for the service. I ordered at 8pm and only 1 family of 4 was dining in there at the time. I ordered 2 things, they gave me a buzzer and sat down. 2 others did the same. 45 minutes later, we all looked at each other, without our food, wondering what was wrong. Turns out they just sat the food to the side, getting cold, never using the buzzers and not acknowledging the other 2 people (one left to do other things) sitting there in a relatively empty restaurant. Their faces when we handed them their un-used buzzers was the only acknowledgement of their idiocy. At least when kabob palace yells at you, the food is great. read more

Definetly one of the better kabob places while in DC or NOVA. Always super fresh and tasty at both the Georgetown and Clarendon locations. Not uber trendy like the neighborhoods they reside in, but thats part of the charm, and they're a great value, and the staff is always fast and pleasant. I'd recommend one of the many platters, which have multiple protein, salad and starch combinations. Complementary naan while waiting for your order is a nice touch. We always get the lamb and chicken kabob combo and the filet combo, both with rice. I could drink the tzatziki here. The hummus is so smooth and the pita is always fresh. Simply awful! Rude employee, Carlos (I think), wouldn't really let me see his name tag. Regardless, I called ahead and was told to pick up my order in 10 minutes, arrived and still had to wait an additional 20 minutes because everyone's order placed after mine would get served first. The cooks were fulfilling orders from customers who walked in after I had arrived and ordered on the spot. When I asked about my order, Carlos, dismissed me by saying "if I had your order I would have given it to you already." Needless to say, he walked away and continued to ignore me, I just wanted to roll out of there but figured it would take forever to get my money back. Moby Dick's is certainly good but there are far better, hole-in-the-wall kabob houses all over the metro area. It doesn't compare to Kabob Palace or Kabob House Food Corner but Moby Dick's quality is consistent from location to location. I had the Kabob E-Chenjeh - chunks of marinated tenderloin and rice for $10. It comes with grilled tomatoes, warm bread and tzatziki sauce. You will leave stuffed, that's for sure! read more

Our go-to for a quick kabob over rice or salad. Usually call ahead and my meal is ready in 10 mins. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, and portions are generous! The butter/saffron infused rice is great on a day when you deserve some carbs. Otherwise the salad comes with black olives, feta, and pepperchinis. Bread is usually warm and pairs deliciously with the yogurt sauce. Ask for the "green sauce" if you are feeling spicy - it will add some punch to your meal! read more

I've been to Moby Dick over 5 times in the past 3 months but will never return based on a customer service issue I had tonight at the Arlington location. Using two coupons I clipped from the paper, I noticed neither said that they couldn't be used at once. The kind female cashier inspected them, noticed the same thing and began to discount my purchase. The male cashier next to her who became interested as soon as he saw me use coupons immediately butted in stating that you could only use one per visit. The female cashier looked at him to object but quickly took his queue to not disagree with him. It was painfully obvious that he was trying to dupe me out of 4 dollars. He noticed the look I was giving him and said, "...you can use that tomorrow night!" with a bizarre look on his face, knowing he'd been figured out. I immediately decided that not only will I not be using the coupon another night, I'll simply never return to the restaurant. This was a pathetic move on his part to make $4 off of a returning customer. read more

Food and service here USED to be good, but it has gone so downhill to the point that longtime regulars steer clear from this location. So far as the food is concerned, I don't know if they changed cooks or what, but the food is now heavily salty to the point that it's even difficult to digest without chugging water after every bite. This goes for all dishes, from kabobs to stews. As for employees/management, there is this very strange employee named "Daryoush", who oddly enough is the manager. He is extremely rude to customers and insults them with bizarre comments. His behavior is downright inappropriate and inexcusable. Unfortunately I have seen him exhibit this type of behavior on more than one occasion. Surprised that such a person has employment in a managerial position. I went with a friend a couple of days ago and was kind of skeptical when I walked in, seeing as I'd only ever been to Shamshiry, and the atmosphere at Shamshiry is far classier. But seeing as I could care less about how stuck up the people around me are and how nicely dressed they are, I wasn't really bothered about Moby Dick being more of a fast food Iranian restaurant. I ordered the Kabob-e-Kubideh (the usual for me at any Iranian restaurant) and it was mind-blowing. Before the food comes they give you a basket filled with noon (their amazing bread) and their yogurty dill "dipping sauce". The portions are plentiful with rice, a grilled tomato and your choice of meat. If you want to go pure Persian, order yourself the homemade Doogh (a yogurt drink that is sure to bring out some funny expressions from Doogh virgins). You'll eat to the point of discomfort and definitely be happy you came. If you are going on a date and would rather have a more romantic atmosphere with waiters and the whole shabang, I would suggest going to Shamshiry. However, if you want the same great food at a less formal restaurant, go ahead and treat yourself with some Moby Dick. read more

This place can do no wrong for me. Its so consistantly good. The rice is amazing. The chicken kabob is great and so is the falafel. You get a lot of bang for your buck here, and the guys who work here are SO NICE. They always remember me and have something funny to say everytime I come in. The only negative I have for this place is that the bread isn't all that...its sort of chewy sometimes. But its not that bad and I still love this place forever. read more
