This place is special. The view is outstanding. Customers are friendly, and the staff is outstanding-- Ryan, Clay, Rachel, Spencer, Marybell, the blonde girl, always make it better. The owner is cool, as are the rest of the staff that I lamely can't remember their names. Enough of the gush. Service is always solid. The food is soooo good, and they're cool about subbing stuff, their burger- really good, bologn-knee sandwich stupid good, grouper um yes, shrimp or mussel in bang bang sauce (yes, try the mussels that way and tell 'em I sent you). Whenever I go someplace new I always try to visit a place where the locals go, away from the touristy places. While in Nashville we went for a drive and I trusted Yelp to point me to the best place in the area. Like always Yelp does not disappoint. We got here and immediately saw that it was a very small place and the parking lot was equally small. We literally snagged the last spot. We walked in and we were seated at the only open spot, near the door. It was a chilly day so I was not happy being so close to the door. Lucky for us a table opened up further away and by the window. It was the perfect table with the view of the lake. The bartender came to our table and took our orders. I went with a glass of wine. My boyfriend tried some of the mixed drinks from the menu and he said they were good. We had just came from brunch so we weren't hungry and I wish I had been hungry. The food looked delicious! The only thing we tried was the shrimp appetizer, cold with the shell. They were huge shrimp and sooo good! We liked it so much we ordered two. Stopped for lunch after a softball tournament. Service was top notch. Food came out quickly, glasses were kept filled, and we were given iced teas to go. Hendersonville might not be known for its culinary hot spots BUT Moby Dicks is a hidden treasured gem. Immediately after moving to Hendersonville from the west coast I was hesitant to try ANY seafood in Tennessee (in general) but Moby Dick's kept popping up as a recommendation on my Yelp app. So during one of those the weather is too beautiful to cook kind of evenings we said YOLO and headed to Moby Dicks. BEST.DECISION.EVER.PERIOD The food incredible, the atmosphere amazing, the service fantastic. This isn't a fancy shamancy joint. This is a town jewel where locals know each other and stranger leave feeling like they belong. The restaurant is located right by the lake so you have an incredible view, plus they seem to have resident ducks who will wait patiently for you to feed them, but don't listen to them they don't need human food. Plus you might enjoy your meal and not have any left over for the ducks. The food really isn't exaggerating when you think about the quality of fish. There's nothing more frustrating than paying a high price for fish tasting fish. As contradictory as it sounds fresh fish shouldn't taste fishy! They have fun and delicious sushi menu in the evenings which I highly recommend the Commando Roll. In late spring/summer months it get CRAZY busy so good luck finding parking despite their parking space being pretty spacious. read more

Visited my daughter and son-in-law and it happened to be my birthday. I'm a beach girl and live at the beach so they knew I would enjoy a water view. We had a decently long wait, but I had water to look at and the great herons did not disappoint. Food was good for freshwater fish and the portions were huge. We all enjoyed our various dishes and the atmosphere reminded me of home. Families and couple, large groups and small - they're prepared for it all. I could see this being a regular spot if I relocate to be closer to them. read more

No, no, noooooooo..... what happened? Say it ain't so. It seems this place has gotten busy, become a little of a hot spot and then just let the food go really downhill, or is that just me? I went there many times last summer and fall. It was always quite good. The food was good, the drinks were good. But I was kayaking with a friend recently and suggested we go. What a better thing than to pull up on shore and grab a great lunch? A better thing would have been to actually have a good lunch. We were both sorely disappointed. I recommended the grouper fingers ~ which last year had been lightly breaded, firm, flaky and delicious. But this time, they were 70% bread, mushy remnants of mystery fish inside and just totally greasy. My tacos were as if someone had taken the beef off a taco bell soft taco and thrown a couple small pieces of just so-so tuna on top. ANY tuna taco recipe usually contains....red cabbage, onions, cilantro, etc. So many more interesting things to use than iceberg, tomatoes and shredded cheddar. Seriously...has it changed hands, did the best cooks move on? What happened to turn a place I loved into a place I can no longer confidently recommend? The atmosphere and the friendly service live on ~ but the quality food was not present. read more

I've lived in Hendersonville for about a year now and have been to a handful of restaurants but nothing has impressed me as much as Moby Dicky's. From the friendly staff, great customer service, unique scenery, and delicious food (especially seafood)... This is my new favorite spot. The restaurant is very small in terms of seating. While they do have outdoor seating, it was raining the day me and my family visited. Therefore a decent chunk of would-be-available seating was gone. The wait wasn't too bad though, considering how quickly they were bringing out food. My daughter (a finicky toddler) decided she wanted to try shrimp for the first time. Anyone with kids that age knows that a lot of the food you order ends up not being eaten. We didn't want to buy her a kids meal she wouldn't eat. Our waitress was kind enough to bring her a single piece of fried shrimp without question. My wife and I were stunned! My daughter liked it so much, we ended up getting her a kids fried shrimp meal. I ordered the appetizer lobster tail because I wanted to enjoy lobster but didn't want to splurge on the dinner portion lobster. Well as luck would have it, as I was trying to eat it, it fell on the floor. Now.. As gross as it sounds I was about to eat it anyway (I'm a guy and it was lobster!) Well a staff member saw it and said they would get me another. I didn't even have to ask!! A lot of places would have simply said "sorry about your luck." Again, my wife and I were amazed. Everyone's food was wonderful and I was surprised of the variety of items on their menu. The steak sandwich I got was one of the best I ever had. Heck, even the salad my wife got had some of the best croutons I've ever tasted. The key lime pie was also very delicious. My first time to Moby Dicky's was so good, I had to write this review. Great little hide away known mostly by locals. I had the blacked snapper and the crab wanton appetizer. The appetizer had a strange name but it's cream cheese and crab fried in a wonton wrapper. Comes with a spicy dipping sauce. Very good app, but to call it a crab dish is a stretch. There was not one piece of crab in it but the cream cheese and the sauce were very good. Wife had the grouper wrap. All were very tasty. Snapper was cooked skin on and I do wish they had crisped it up, but it was still a nice dish. I tried my wife's grouper wrap and I highly recommend it! When you pull in, you may feel afraid to get out of your car. Looks like a shack, but don't pass it up! They had what looked like a great patio area on the water but it was dark and 20 degrees when we were there so couldn't really see exactly what the set up was. Fun neighborhood bar atmosphere, a little noisy but great time. Definitely worth checking out. read more

This is a place you must check out. It is a smaller place but you can sit inside or outside and you need to get there before 5:00pm or you will have to wait awhile. They have a lot on the menu something for everyone in your party. They have a full bar. My husband had grouper fish fingers with hush puppies and I had Bam Bam shrimp with hush puppies. Our food come to us fresh and hot and our waitress was very good and made our visit a pleasant one. The food was great and the portions were big. The only down side I have is that parking is very limited. read more

If you like your seafood restaurants to smell like a bait store, after the power has been off for 24 hours , this is your kind of place. I held my breath and hoped they had a table outside. The only reason I stayed was my wife wanted oysters. Those weren't shucked properly so she had a battle on her hands to get them out of the shell. I got the boneless chicken wing appetizer. Nothing special. I have had the same thing at Sam's Club on a Saturday. Parking is a joke. Park on the neighbors lawn. Park where ever you want. As I always say I am looking for the best thing ever and I think we may have found it here. Kit our server was great and very attentive. It was. It was not crazy busy so we lucked out with being well taken care of and as well as being surprised with excellent food. The oysters were huge and the Chicago Style were a big hit with the table. Love the view of the lake and the ambience of the restaurant. Thanks to Larry for the review and hitting it on the head with his recommendation. We returned for the New Year's it's really nice to be able to get seafood that actually taste like it's not pre-frozen and the atmosphere is relaxing. Been awhile with COVID but revisited. Changes to the menu good selection seafood and alternates. Steak and biscuits were very good. Large pieces of steak very tasty. Not "Irelands" bit good and tender. Chips were always a past favorite. Wave chips now, not as tasty but assume made since they were warm. Really appreciated the lighting over the table with individual dimmer. Fantastic idea and greatly appreciated by my elderly parents who have difficulty reading in most restaurants. Attentive owners take note!! Only downside we were fourth seating in the door at opening and took forever for someone to greet the table. Granted they seated a party of 12 just before us, but plenty of staff. First table next to door so we were noticeable. Host finally noticed and got drink orders and clued server to table seated. Afterward waitress was superb, and very attentive. They had expended the seating. Covered and screened as I assume heated, so big improvement. Will be coming back. read more

What a great little place we stumbled upon. We wanted to get away from Opryland areas and eat somewhere local. This place sits right on the lake and has cute outside seating or inside with open garage doors. I definitely recommend it as a reprieve from the big city. The food was delicious. Sorry Hendersonville, the food here is really awfully. I realize that Hendersonville isn't a culinary mecca but it isn't possible that this place is actually getting 5 stars. The fish (at a fish place) was frozen, cooked within an inch of it's life, microwaved and far past it prime. It literally made me ill. The vegetables were steamed to mush. The calimari was rubber. The Ruben wasnt even good. It was truly terrible. Everyone at our table left their's mostly untouched. I even asked my server if the food normally looked like that to which she responded.. Yes. I also spoke to the manager before leaving. He was a super nice guy but did not seem to get how bad the food was. He said a sauce normally came on the fish. I did decline the sauce do to food allergies but no sauce could have fixed that fish. It wasn't even identifiable as fish... tough and rubbery. I realize these reviews have a negative impact and I try not to write bads ones but this was bad. Owners should to take in the feedback and adjust. I would hate to see anyone else looking for great food waste their time. If you want to support local business... great. I do too but I also want a decent meal. Think twice before you write a 5 star review for a friend. It sets an expectation for other diners. The really sad thing is that the place is gorgeous, right on the lake. We have been to this place several times! The food is ALWAYS amazing no matter what I order! The bam bam shrimp is to die for, the cheese & pretzel is delicious. I also got these oysters pictured and they were AMAZING! My boyfriend doesn't eat seafood but the burger and hot chicken sliders are delicious so he loves those.
