I was gifted an original Arne Jacobsen 'egg chair' by my Aunt in New York. It had last been reupholstered in 1998 and was worn, faded and also red. Perfect color for her apartment, but not so much for home. Because of the curves on these chairs, it's not like you can entrust the project to just anyone. I found Mod Restoration and began working with Lauren to get this item reupholstered - keeping with the original style of material imported from Denmark. All of my contact with Mod Restoration was remote. Lauren sent color samples and photos of furniture with those colors. Working with my Aunt on the color, we settled on a vibrant Royal Blue. Lauren was a HUGE help and very patient, explaining the process, timing, options, etc. - and also how to get it shipped to my home in California when it was completed. Before we could get the chair to Mod Restoration, my Aunt decided she wasn't done with it yet, so the project went on hold for several months. Once we got the okay to move forward, Lauren picked up where we left off, Mod Restoration picked up the chair and the job was completed beautifully! I had no issues with the timing or the price. Outstanding job! I was certain that my great-grandmother's chair was eeking toward the gajillion dollar mark to fix (a busted seat, rickety joints, matted horsehair stuffing from the 1900s, and a horrible previous upholstering job performed in the 1940s), so I was surprised that MOD's pricing came in very fair (half the price of a Barcelona chair!). They also did an absolutely fantastic job reconstructing the seat, oiling the wood...the amount of detail they put into the job was the kind of integrity I wish I saw in most businesses. Sim, the designer who came to my house and helped me pick the right upholstery, was patient and helped me chose the right material both for my personal style and the chair. We had a pair of reclining home theater chairs, and didn't know if they were worth reupholstering, so we gave them to our daughter, and went out to purchase new ones...We hated the 1st, 2nd and 3rd replacements, which wound up in 3 of our children's homes. Finally, my daughter suggested that we have our old favorites recovered, since we couldn't find anything we liked that was comparable in comfort, size and overall quality. We had an antique sofa and two antique chairs restored by MOD...they left our building on their last legs, and came back so beautiful. The sofa feels like new when you sit on it, the chairs look like museum pieces... from the guys who picked up and delivered the furniture to all the folks i dealt with over email, everyone was professional, mellow and kind. And we were kind of a pain as travel and life kept extending our ability to answer their questions...but they never showed any frustration even. but regardless of how nice they are, YOU SHOULD USE THESE FOLKS because they do great work, have great fabrics, and take pride in your successful experience as a customer. We couldn't be more pleased with the results of our MOD restoration. We have 6 Møller chairs that we've owned and used! for almost 30 years. The seats needed re-stringing with Danish cord and after much procrastination, we finally sent them off and held our breath. I admit that I was nervous making every step of the transaction via e-mail, but the process worked very smoothly - photos, quote, agreement, expectations, progress report, suggestions for additional improvements were all made along the way. Awesome service! My dog chewed a sizable hole in my mid-century cane headboard awhile back. I found Mod thru a Google search and from their website before/after pics I was confident they could do a fine job. Took a photo and got a super reasonable quote and a month to six weeks timeline. To my surprise it only took three weeks and the work was beyond the "fine" I thought it would be- the headboard looks brand new and I am THRILLED to have it back and looking so great. I have a vintage 1953 American Modern "Scoop Chair" designed by the classic team Coggin and Baughman. The original naugahyde was brittle and cracked from years of sitting and wear. I found MOD on the internet and was impressed with their attention to modern furniture..I visited their office and chose from hundreds of samples for a new vinyl for the chair. I found the perfect color, and now the chair is fully restored, placed in my home. It is fantastic! MOD is an exceptional company, with talented staff and restoration teams. We had MOD Restoration fix and re-upholster our six mid-century modern dining room chairs; they look and feel just perfect. We had had them re-upholstered by a different company upon purchase, but the job was slipshod and rushed, so it was a relief to find someone who could bring them back to their original condition. It was my parents chair, 60 years old, they handled it with care, and after the reupholstery it looks better than new.
