Honestly, this review is a first for me. If I'm not writing a bad one (and even then something has to go terribly wrong) I don't tend to bother. When Mike dropped off my pieces he asked if I'd write a review in my spare time. Of course I said I would but then life took over and time, the one thing I always have too little of seemed to get even more scarce. Anyway, earlier today I was sitting in one the chairs Mike recovered for me and all the compliments I've gotten over the last month came flooding back. More importantly, a vivid memory of the feeling of insecurity I had when I first contacted Mike. The truth is I wasn't at all sure if the expense of recovering these pieces was worth it. God, was it worth it! Look, for all you true furniture connoisseurs out there this will seem crazy to you but I was considering not saving original mid-century Herman Miller pieces. It was stupid. Not only because their value but also because if I hadn't worked with Mike I would have lost out on having the experience. From the first moment we met I could tell how much he loves his work. However, it wasn't until I received my pieces back that I could see for myself the amount time and pride he puts into it. Also, it was pretty exciting to see my vision of what the pieces could be come to life. Working with Mike was incredible. He's patient, kind and incredibly knowledgeable. Next time I will be a lot less scared when I'm thinking of taking on a project I'm not sure I'm up for. In fact, next time I will be a lot more excited to get started. Joe read more

I recently moved into my new New York City apartment and brought along from home an old, beat up, large club chair and matching ottoman for lounging around in my bedroom. The cloth on the 2 pieces was stained badly from years of use and I was considering throwing both pieces of furniture out on the curb. But they are so comfortable and come along with fond memories so I decided to keep them and search out a service to reupholster them. Fortunately, I came across Mike at Reupholstery NYC as I was searching the web, I spoke to him on the phone and arranged for an in-house consultation and estimate. I signed up right away, filled out some basic paperwork and Mike took both pieces with him back to wherever he does his magic. (Mike is fully insured so my building had no problem granting him access.) Mike returned the furniture to me right on schedule and I couldn't believe my eyes. The chair and ottoman looked brand new!! I could tell that the job was done with high quality craftsmanship and materials and I couldn't be happier with the result. So think twice before throwing out any used furniture. WOW, WOW..WOW. Literally a facelift for my couch! Here's the story... I have had my couch for only four years when I decided to get an adorable little dog - who in turn destroyed the couch. It was fabricated in linen which was in shreds after a year with the dog. The couch fits perfectly in my apartment and I really like it, so instead of buying a new one I decided to reupholster. There are a few options in NYC but I can confidently say (I did my research) that Mike at Reupholstery NYC is legit #1. He came to my house the same day I called, provided a wide variety of swatches and options to not only restore the couch but to improve it! I chose a new material that Mike suggested to scotch guard for stain protection as well as an additional lining for strength. We agreed on a fair price and the couch was picked up the following week. Keep in mind my couch is huge and only after 2.5 weeks after pickup it was returned better then it was before. He also fixed the cushions (they were quite deflated) and the end product was just beyond (BEYOND!!). I am writing this review as I know I had to do a fair amount of research and reupholstery is not a small decision. I haven't been this happy with any purchase in the past decade. Michael and his company delivered a beautifully reupholstered, very long and deep sofa, and the craftsmanship is simply perfect and detailed. At over 8 feet in length, my "in-desperate-need-of-new-life" sofa barely fit through the wide doors of my Manhattan apartment; Michael came up with an ingenious solution: the sofa was essentially divided into two, and upon arriving back to my building, it was effortless to get it up the stairs and into the apartment! Yea! Furthermore, its division is absolutely seamless, creative and intelligent, and did not compromise, at all, the structural-integrity, nor the aesthetic of the sofa. I am truly delighted. I am overjoyed I found Reupholstery NYC. They exceeded all expectations and brought new life to a chair I've loved but have beaten up through the years - even though it was a hand me down from my grandparents many years ago. The wooden frame was scratched and the joints loose and the cushion was weak and uncomfortable and torn. The team picked up my chair and leather (bought from another vendor) during the COVID-19 shutdown. They worked their magic over a few weeks and delivered back to me essentially a brand new chair. The wood was refinished perfectly - the stain is the right tone, all scratches and even gouges disappeared, and then polished beautifully. The cushion is firm and comfortable. Our living room today looks better than new and is far more comfortable! After 23 years the fabric on our recliner, sofa bed, matching chair and ottoman were definitely showing their age. Instead of buying new furniture we decided to reupholster because the original pieces were of high quality and fit the room perfectly. This is what brought us to Michael. My wife and I had long wanted to rejuvenate our Carlyle sleeper/sofa, which dates to 2002. The Yelp reviews were great so I called Mike to take a look at our 10 year-old Room & Board sofabed that was worn down to the batting on the armrests and some of the seat cushions. He brought a sample book for fabrics and gave us his price for a complete reupholstery with pickup and delivery. It wasn't cheap but as a longtime homeowner I've learned (the hard way) that you usually get what you pay for. He brought the sofabed back in about 3 weeks and we couldn't be happier. It looks brand new and I think the cushioning/firmness is better than the original was a decade ago. Mike and his team were friendly and professional. They did the frame disassembly and reassembly on-site so nothing was damaged during pickup or delivery. We expect to get more than a decade of wear out of this. Highly recommended. read more

There are no word for the service Eli and this company give. They are so beyond an upholstery company but truly men who care deeply about their customers wishes and ideas. This is the second time I commissioned a rather unusual project that required focus and attention to detail and from the moment my chair was picked up with my detailed notes, I was informed along the way and asked questions that were relevant and needed to insure a certain artistic outcome. I was even invited out to help with the placement of a portion of the chair as I was so hoping for the exact result that was delivered to me today. I have a three piece sectional that was so ugly and worn. Mike did his magic and it turned out gorgeous. He was always pleasant and nice to talk to. He was also cheaper than other estimates I got with better fabric selection. Don't get discouraged if he doesn't email you back right away. He is very busy, hence all the wonderful Yelp reviews, and very good at what he does. He will get back to you. I found that calling was the best way to communicate. I asked if the couches could be done within two weeks for my birthday and he had them back to me in less than that along with a couple of beautiful throw pillows as a birthday present. We had a terrific experience redoing a sofabed, a loveseat, and two armchairs in leather - all over 20 years old, but which we liked very much. They had many different options of leather coverings. They came and dismantled the biggest piece in the house, as it would not have fit out the door. Exactly 3 weeks later everything was returned and put back together as promised. Mike found a leftover piece of leather for another chair that he did for a good price, and a chair that they recaned , he ended up doing for free, because he wasn't himself satisfied with the result- although we couldn't see anything wrong with it!
