I can't speak more highly of my experience at Modern Age Dentistry. I lost a filling on a Friday night and was scrambling to find a place open on a Saturday because that was the only time I'd be able to fix it before traveling for a month. The receptionist was so kind and graciously made time for me to come in between other appointments. I try to avoid the dentist because drilling gives me level 10 anxiety but both the dentist and dental assistant were reassuring and kind, talked me through everything. What really blew me away was the office therapy dog. Dr. Saeghi asked if I was cool with the dog laying on my lap while he was fixing my filling- I literally wanted to cry from happiness. Came in to get a crown done a 2hr procedure. Was greeted by the office retriever Princess. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Anthony the assistant was great at taking my X-rays and hearing my concerns. Dr. Saeghi as usual friendly and patient, knowing my phobias of needles and drills gives me time to set up my headphones for loud music and asking if I'm in pain . I went to Dr. Ali Saeghi (on Glendale Blvd.) for the first time on October 20, 2010, after not having been to the dentist for about two years. Dr. Saeghi did a full dental examination, and took full set of digital x-rays as well as color digital photos (novel!) He acted in very professional, amiable and attentive way; his staff was likewise very helpful and professional-seeming. He identified 10 cavities, showing me a color picture of each on his monitor. He also recommended a gum treatment at extra expense. I didn't second guess his diagnosis because about a year before I had started drinking a lot of soda and I figured this was somehow a result of it. I'm also an unfortunately (in this case) trusting person. Dr. Saeghi filled three cavities on the upper-right side of my mouth on that day. The drilling seemed aggressive, compared to other cavities I've had filled. He had to redrill and reapply the filling material a second time as my bite was off after the first pass. I scheduled another appointment to have the second round of cavities filled. After the novocaine wore off, my teeth were sore for more than a week after (also atypical for cavity fillings). Exactly two weeks later, one of the fillings fell out randomly, leaving a gap between two molars where Dr. Saeghi had drilled. It was such a big chunk that at first I thought a piece of my tooth had broken off. I asked around and was referred to a friend's life-long family dentist to have it examined/repaired. This dentist did not believe there to be ANY cavities based on his visual examination and the original x-rays Dr. Saeghi took (I requested them) and questioned the way the filling was done in the first place (he said there was no way it would have stayed) [JULY 2011 UPDATE: Had the inlay done and upon drilling the dentist confirmed there was actually a cavity there, but that it was not adequately removed (some decay remained).] This dentist recommended an inlay to repair the filling that had fallen out and to fix the gap now present between the teeth, which collects food every time I eat. The inlay will cost $1,600 and Delta Dental will cover only a portion of it. Based on this information, I believe that there were not any cavities when I first visited Dr. Saeghi's office, and that he drilled and filled stained areas of my teeth that we otherwise healthy. [Again, per not above, there was at least one cavity, not sure about the other two teeth.] I filed a complaint with Delta. They sent me to one of their own examiners. He did a visual inspection and did not perceive there to be any cavities either (though only x-rays could tell for sure). I told him, "But Dr. Saeghi's office was so nice and all the equipment seemed so high tech!" His reply: "Exactly, he must need to pay it off!" Delta had Dr. Saeghi refund me what I paid for the filling due to its "short life". They could not confirm or deny that I had no cavities in the three teeth he had drilled because Dr. Saeghi used digital x-rays instead of film, which were not of "sufficient diagnostic quality" to tell. (The other dentists said they don't use digital x-rays for this very reason.) Delta also couldn't validate that Dr. Saeghi diagnosed 10 cavities because he did not file a Treatment Plan with Delta, so it was just my word against his. (I have better things to do than make up things about random dentists.) So, in short, my effort to patronize a local business ended up a disaster. I still have the gap between my molars, which I am procrastinating filling because it will cost me so much. I will need to have it done sometime though so I don't completely rot the teeth. I have also wasted hours and hours of my life dealing with this. Lastly, I lost my faith in the integrity of dentists as a whole. In short, I do not recommend Dr. Saeghi. [November 2017 Update: Still no cavities. But still bitter!] read more

BEWARE! the coupon for cleaning, exam and x- rays is just a sales pitch to get you to come in to try to scam you into getting services you don't need. I went for the cleaning and xray for $59.00 but after my exam, I was told I could not have my teeth cleaned because I had some kind gum infection,I need 5 crowns and had a number of cavities, plus i may need a possible root canal. Totaling $7,000+. Saeghi and some heavy set dental assistant told that i couldn't have my teeth cleaned until I agreed to have this work done. They tried to get me to apply for care credit, I told them I didn't want to apply for any credit at this time. Saeghi then asks me, and I Quote, "Do you have any extra money saved that you can use?" At that very moment, I knew I was in the presence of a crook. I ended up leaving with NO teeth cleaned and i felt like I was scammed for my $59.00. I went and got a second opinion from another dentist, where I had my teeth cleaned and 1 cavity filled 2 days later. This dentist found no reason for me to have 5 crowns. Please don't entertain the coupons for $59.00 cleaning or the teeth whitening, it's just a con. They may try to find a reason to not do whats on the coupon. Had I did my research before i went in, I would've seen the other reviews here on Yelp and I would have $59.00 in my purse to spend on something, that I really need! read more

I moved a few years back and going to my old dentist became a real hassle. I really liked my old dentist so switching was something I was reluctant to do. I found modern dentistry because it was right down the street from my house. I have been going here for two years now. I have had Dr. Ali do a root canal, replace a 10 year old crown, and fill a few cavities. The office is very nice, the staff is very friendly and helpful and they are open on Saturdays. I literally just left his office right now (Saturday night at 7pm). I had a crown come off (one that was done by my old dentist years ago) and I'm leaving on vacation for two weeks tomorrow. I called the office, they contacted Dr. Ali and he drove to the office to glue my crown back on a Saturday night and didn't charge me. I see all these posts below from people who needed lots of dental work who hadn't been to the dentist in forever, and chose him on a groupon. And when the dentist tells them they need to fix their tweeter grills they get mad and leave a bad review. My wife has been going here for the same length of time as me and she has only had one cavity. He never tried to get her to do work she didn't need as some of these other reviews state. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I made an appointment to see this dentist just for a check up, cleaning. I also asked about options for veneers for my front teeth. I didn't have broken, decayed, diseased teeth just yellowish discoloration. I was looking to do the two front teeth and he convinced me to do the six from teeth. I agreed to the veneers. They make you sign on laminated papers. What a mistake for me to sign those papers. Looks like a scam. On the day he prepared my teeth for "veneers" I kind of felt that he was taking too much of my teeth but he said everything was ok, the way it should be. It wasn't. He put some crappy plastic as temporary covers for two weeks. The day I went for the "veneers" to be placed I asked to see them and he showed me a little box where I could see the front , he asked me not to open it. He didn't want me to see them because those were not veneers but some crowns that did not fit whatever was left of my teeth. Then he put the so called veneers and he never mentioned anything about crowns or anything that would indicate that veneers would not work and I has to get crowns. He lied to me when he could have been honest. To make it worse I went home thinking those were veneers but then I could feel some raised, bumpy, uneven edges in the back. It is such a bad experience, I didn't get veneers or crowns, have no idea what are these. He has no idea what veneers are or he used me to teach himself how to do veneers. At this time I am in pain, uncomfortable, wrong bite....He lied to me all these time. I could understand if he made a mistake, took too much of my teeth and veneers were not an option but why lie to your patient. He could have been honest and tell the truth, mistakes, accidents happen. He charges before any procedures. I was suppose to have a wisdom tooth extracted, whitening kit at home, cleaning and I don't want to go back to that horrible place and I did not get a refund. He charged my $1650 for one veneer, I paid $10,503. I asked for my dental records and they don't reply, assuming he thinks he does not have to release my dental records. Yes, he does. I got an attorney involved. Went to another dentist and these crowns are so badly done that he has to remove them and place new crowns because my teeth were damaged and veneers are not an option. Why lie to your patient? Why not be honest? What a horrible experience, a procedure done that is irreversible. Crowns that are never agreed to. If he had told me I did not qualify for veneers I would have never agreed to crowns. And if these crowns were done properly maybe I could just let it go but now I have to pay more money to remove them and get proper crowns. And Holding my dental records is against the law. I had a great experience here. Dr. Saeghi is extremely caring and knowledgable. The staff is super friendly too. Technology wise they seem to have the very latest. However I'm not too sure, since I have very little to compare it with. I have to say I'm so confused by these other horrible reviews. We also came to Dr. Saeghi through his whitening promotion but we were looking for a new dentist and we understood why he was doing the promo as he was looking for new clients in the Atwater neighborhood. He was knowledgable, personable and straightforward. As me, my husband and daughter all had seen the dentist regularly, none of us had any horrible news from him...I had one filling, my daughter's teeth were perfect and my husband ended up with a deep cleaning which is something every dentist he has ever seen has prescribed. End of story. We've been going there now for a year and a half and I can't think of one negative thing to say (unless you don't like going to the dentist on Wednesday or Saturday which is the only days the Atwater office are open). Everyone is super nice, my teeth are great and Dr. Saeghi actually seems like he cares. They also take my insurance. Doesn't get any better than that. I am perplexed. read more

I had appointment today for a standard cleaning. I didn't have time for other procedures and said I would set up a future appointment for an X-ray and the deep cleaning they recommended. No big deal, they were however being super pushy about the X-ray and deep cleaning and said I would have to sign a release of liability. Weird! Why would they need me to sign that if I said I would come back in for the other procedure? I'm sure my teeth would not have fallen out between now and a few weeks from now... anyway, they made it seem like I had to have the deep cleaning TODAY or something bad would happen. So I left with nothing done and will go elsewhere. I don't like pushy people especially when it comes to spending a bunch of money. I just wanted my teeth cleaned and was looking forward to it. I received a flier (and coupon) in the mail for a free exam and a discounted cleaning. The office and staff seemed nice enough, but things started quickly feeling sketchy during the exam itself. The dentist was trying to sell me on the need to get a "deep cleaning" service. Yes, I hadn't had a cleaning in a while (a year, nothing crazy) but I take pretty good care of my teeth/mouth so it was a little hard to believe my teeth were in as bad of shape as was being suggested. I especially found it interesting that when the dentist was making her pitch, she tapped a couple of my teeth and asked if they felt sensitive and didn't wait for my response (which would have been "no, they don't") before answering for me that they were in fact sensitive. That was part of her case for me requiring the additional services that I soon learned would cost me upwards of $2000... After the dentist left, the hygienist entered and said that they actually wouldn't be able to do the standard cleaning "for medical reasons" and that I really would need the deep cleaning. Skeptical of the verdict from this office, I did some research on the deep cleaning they recommended and learned that it can actually be a pretty painful/damaging service if not needed. On the heels of that revelation, I got a personal referral from a friend for another dentist. I met with her earlier this week and she said that there was definitely no need to get the deep cleaning and that all I needed was a standard cleaning, which her staff proceeded to give me. Apparently, they didn't think that the dental health was at risk... So yeah, maybe Modern Age Dentistry does good dental work, but it also seems that they're pretty committed to upselling patients on unnecessary treatments and refusing to offer what is actually necessary. -I was being pushed to get a gum surgery that I did not want and then was denied a cleaning. The whole visit felt more like a sales pitch to receive a more expensive treatment. -I didn't feel comfortable about getting more x-rays and was made to feel foolish for my concern by the manner in which the receptionist responded to me on the matter. They insisted on x-rays before I would be given a cleaning-which I never received because of the fact that they wanted me to get the gum surgery-I heard them pull the same attempt on my girlfriend who came in for a cleaning in the next room. -Neither of us were given cleanings. The "free oral exam and cleaning" coupon mailer they sent out seems to serve as the bait to get people in and I am tired of these cheap manipulative practices. read more

Dr. Ali Saeghi at 3151 Glendale is a joke. Beware. They get you in the door and then peddle all sorts of unnecessary procedures. Highly unethical. Please note this is my first YELP review and I'm only writing because the experience I had was somewhat shocking. I am 38 years old and have had one cavity my entire life. Recently after moving to the Atwater Village area I made an appointment with Dr. Saeghi's office. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and said they were offering a "new patient" special which included an oral exam, x-rays and clean for $49. Over the phone she raved about their state of the art equipment and that Dr. Saeghi was a highly regarded Dentist in the area. Two weeks later I arrived for the appointment. After several minutes I was escorted to an exam room where a thuggish young man named Leo uncomfortably placed the digital X-RAY mouthpiece in my mouth, repeating over and over "Bite Down. Release." He had no bedside manner and the mouthpiece's corners were extremely sharp. When I flinched he said, "What have you never had a digital X-Ray before?" He was rude, abrasive and imposing. After the X-RAYS, Dr. Saeghi arrived. He scanned the digital photographs on the screen, glanced quickly into my mouth and announced immediately I needed not only an extensive gum clean (which he could break up into 3 quadrant visits???) a night-time mouth guard for the stress he could see on my tongue, and my 4 molars "absolutely needed to be pulled." When he was finished with the initial rundown... he asked for an assistant where he ticked off all of my "issues" and told her to calculate the cost. He then turned to me and said he wanted me to relax and watch some videos with him. I sat in the chair and uncomfortably watched three 3-minute videos regarding molars, gum cleaning, and the "proper way to brush your teeth." When the videos were done the assistant returned and said the calculated cost for the molars, gum clean and night guard would be approx $2800 and that if I paid today they would deduct 10%. I said I would think about it, thank you... now can you please clean my teeth? (I came in specifically to get MY TEETH CLEANED!) He smiled and said I really needed a "gum clean" and although cleaning my teeth would "make me feel fresher" it was silly to just clean them today. I said, "But that's why I made the appointment. I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months." Again, he smiled and said, "Maam, what you really need a multi-appointment gum clean..." I cut him off and said, "Please, just clean my teeth. And by the way my regular dentist has NEVER told me I needed an extensive gum clean." He shook his head, left the room... and came back with a dark haired assistant. After fumbling around with the cords to an some type of electric "sonic" cleaner he himself cleaned my teeth in a record-breaking 2 minutes. He then left the room where the assistant polished my teeth. I asked her why my teeth weren't being flossed? She replied, "Sorry, we're overbooked." This, after I sat through at least 3 (grade-school level) videos about proper hygiene and the importance of a ($750) night guard. I left, paid the $49, and will never return again. read more

The only reason these rip-off artists get one star is because I cannot give them ZERO stars. My daughter went to this "dental" office in late September 2012. She was in pain and potentially needed extensive reparative dental work. The dentist seemed very nice, but their finance manager swooped in and tried to talk my daughter into $12,000 worth of dental work to be paid up-front and tried to coerce her into giving them MY social security number as a co-signer. I paid the initial bill of $187 to which they stated that they had not billed Delta Dental for their introductory $59 cost for x-rays, exam, and cleaning for new patients. GUESS WHAT? My daughter just got her statement from Delta Dental and they charged her $230 for the initial visit AND billed her insurance company!! BAIT AND SWITCH is what this operation does. Anyone who patronizes this establishment is FOOLISH as they will not provide the services that they offer and will HARD SELL you to pay for extremely expensive work that you may not even require. read more

Despite the low reviews, I decided to check this place out because it's within walking distance to my place. I'm still not sure how I feel. They've suggested that I have a lot of work done on my teeth, but I do have really bad teeth, so I'm still working with them to see what is necessary for this year. The staff was all very nice, so I think I will give them a chance. The cleaning the hygienist did was a very quality cleaning. My insurance covers 100% of my cleaning and checkup, so I'm not too worried about that. I'll be checking back over the next few months after I have more work done. read more

I've been coming here for the last year after avoiding the dentist for a while (whoops). The staff is lovely and Dr S is great. They weren't judgey about my hiatus, just professional and encouraging that i was getting on the right track. I also needed my wisdom teeth out and was super scared about it, but it went about as well as it could have. I had a follow up call from 'Modern Age Dentistry' saying 'Dr Saeghi is concerned that you have not come in for a clean recently' I told them the reason why is because I was not impressed with the previous work he did, in particular a crown, which another personal friend and excellent dentist told me was sub-standard. When I asked to speak to the dentist - Saeghi - about it, the receptionist said 'you have a nice day now' and hung up on me. I called back twice and both times the receptionist said 'if you don't want to make an appointment to see Dr Saeghi there's nothing I can do' and hung up on me. I called again and this time she didn't pick up the phone. She let it ring through to answer phone. I went to see them in person and when I got there the receptionist was an extremely agressive, bad mannered and trashy girl who told me to get out and that she 'hoped I got hit by a car', this is word for word what was said. There was another receptionist there called Alena who laughed at the whole thing. I am still angry just thinking about how disrespectful these 'people' are. I am pretty sure I can genuinely say that I have never been so insulted in my entire life. These people are all smiles until you question them and then they turn very nasty. Be warned. Stay away from the 'cheap introductory offer'. This is a horrible horrible sham of a dentistry operated by very unpleasant people indeed. I am one of those people who loathes going to the dentist. It gives me immense anxiety and I dread it for every second of every day between when I book the appointment and when it's over. I tried Modern Age Dentistry because they're in my neighborhood and it confirmed every single fear I have about dentists- I will never go back. I got to my appointment 15 minutes early and filled out all the forms, including the question "when did you last get a teeth cleaning," to which the answer was 2.5 years ago. Yes, I know that's really bad, but also cannot possibly be the longest time they've ever heard anyone go between cleanings. But of course I wasn't proud of it and was happy to put it on my form to get it out there. One might think that the point of filling out the form is to not have to repeat the answers to every single question out loud to every single person who works on your teeth. But you'd be wrong. The X-ray technician, the hygienist, and the dentist ALL asked me IMMEDIATELY without even the pretense of pretending to look at my form (or my teeth.) I think they might need to take a lesson in medical beside manner- because guess what, most people hate going to the dentist. You might think it's fun, but that's why you're a dentist. So if you've got a patient who clearly doesn't want to be there, pretend like you're asking about STDs or something else the person might not be proud of and show the slightest amount of sympathy - I didn't just forget to go to the dentist for 2.5 years, I avoided it. And you're reminding me exactly why. Back to my visit. You know what is hard for people who hate going to the dentist? Showing up 15 min early to your 10am appointment so you can sit from 10am to 10:20 alone in a dental chair, while you wait for someone to come in and do something that's going to suck. Especially when you can hear the entire staff chitchatting in the breakroom next door. So I do that, and then get 20 minutes of incredibly uncomfortable x-rays (which was not the technician's fault, it's just a gag-inducing experience for me.) But nonetheless, not a lot of fun, and I'm eager to get the rest of it over with. The technician said he would send in the hygienist "right away" but I literally laid their for another 15 minutes listing to the employees chatting in the breakroom before he came back to tell me I'd need to move to the hygienist's room. So I guess I wasn't even in the right place, or he didn't know why I was there? Despite the forms? And no one in the office felt a remote sense of obligation to check in on me? Bottom line it was 11am when I got started with the hygeinist even though I had a 10am appointment- not a great way to start out a dental visit you've been dreading. The hygienist was ok- she scolded me for not flossing enough, repeatedly, but I expected that. What I didn't expect was her trying to show me pictures of my gums and the inside of my mouth, which I had to insist that she not. I was already close to vomiting from the x-rays and she had scolded me vociferously for not flossing enough- I really did not need to see a picture of my gums for her to get her point across, I'm not an idiot. If I was the kind of person who enjoyed seeing closeups of my gums, I probably would floss more, you know? At that point I just couldn't be nice any more and said "please don't. I hate everything about this." And then she kinda softened and realized I was miserable and just tried to get me through it. She did a good job. But then the dentist came in and it was clear she was much more interested in impressing him than she was in my experience as a patient. He asked her if she'd spoken to me about the "crowding" in my lower teeth and she said yes right away, but she absolutely had not. That was my first clue that I was a prop. They then proceeded to have a conversation about me as though I wasn't in the room, including how "lucky" I was that my gums weren't worse and reference to a cavity. So the moment I found out I had a cavity (my first, ever, which they should know since they just spent an hour and a half in my mouth!) was the dentist and the hygienist talking to each other like they were talking about a text book, not a person. I had to ask them, "so I have a cavity?" No one had the human decency to say, hey, we know you're already super uncomfortable, here's some bad news- you have your first cavity. Here's what that is going to entail." Nope! Literally were talking about me like a was a test dummy. The dentist then tried to talk to me about straightening options for my lower teeth, and at that point I was late for another appointment and really not interested in his brochures, to which he patronizingly responded that it was his job to tell me about the situation, and mine to decide what to do about it. I saw Dr. Ali Saeghi with the $60 coupon referral for a regular cleaning/X-ray/bleach tray deal today and realized when I left that I had been ripped off. It was at the office on Fallbrook ave in West Hills Ca. DO NOT COME HERE WORST DENTIST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! After 5 minutes of digital X-rays and a quick peak in my mouth, the doctor and his staff quoted me over 3 GRAND for his diagnosis of 9 cavities and a gum treatment. He tried to show me how "unhealthy" my gums were by jabbing them with a pick until they bled HARD explaining that the instrument shouldn't sink that far down. Well as hard as he was pressing anyone would have failed and it was really uncomfortable. They refused to bleach and clean my teeth before the fillings were done and they were giving me different payment plan options, asking who would be paying, offering a discount if it was all paid up front..basically doing whatever they could do to get my money. These people don't care about the patients and they will exaggerate on what you need done. Most of us are on a budget and this was a complete waste of time. $225 for a single fill? You can find a better place with good intentions and honest people for half that price.. DONT BE FOOLED. The doctor is only there 2 days a week because he makes his rounds to other offices pulling the same crap on other patients in need of dental care. Thanks to this place I'm out $60, my teeth aren't cleaned, I'm stressed, and I still have to pay more and start over again somewhere else. read more

I can't give enough praise to Dr. Saeghi and his team. They are helpful, kind and comforting... really makes you feel at ease. I was impressed with the high tech equipment and state of the art x-rays they have and felt that they are very knowledgeable with their line of work. They work with you. If you do not ask questions, you'll never know so if you are not sure about something, always ask. I had really antiquated dental work and had the silver fillings... you know, I felt like my teeth looked like Jaws from the James Bond film. When Dr. Saeghi was done with me and saw the work he did, I almost cried. My teeth looked impeccable! I was so happy with the work that I was going to strangers and opening my mouth and showing them how awesome my dental work was! I know, I sound crazy but living with silver fillings for as long as I have, I was afraid to talk and open my mouth wide cause I didn't want to scare people. Now, I have confidence and so proud of my chops. So for those that didn't have a great experience, I am sorry to hear that. read more

I never enjoyed going to the dentist, but this office has changed that. Easy to get an appointment quickly, the office itself is very modern, and Dr. Saeghi is very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a cleaning done and a cavity filled, all during my lunch hour. Bonus for animal lovers, you can ask to have their therapy dog (Golden Retriever) Princess, sit next to you during your visit, if you're scared. read more
