I've been visiting Silverlake Dental Group for a couple of months now, and I cannot say enough good things about my experience. The care has been exceptional. We've fixed a chipped tooth, redone two uneven crowns that were causing problems, and we're re-building gum tissue and health. Dr. Josh gave me prescription-grade products and proactively made retainers to keep them in place. He didn't charge me extra for it, he wanted his work to be done right. Have been going to Dr. B since 2020. Over that time, multiple fillings of his have fallen out, which he was quick to replace. This last visit, in February, there were many issues with his front office and scheduling that was out of my control. A third party call center (that I didn't realize at the time) had said I was booked for an appointment at a specific time. I received a text from the office day before "reaching out to book my appointment", and I explained it was already booked. They informed me the call center did not in fact book that appointment. I was dealing with another filling from Dr. B that had partially fallen out, and was in a lot of pain, so asked that them if they could honor the miscommunication. They agreed to squeeze me in. Upon my visit, I felt rushed and that Dr. B was annoyed and in a bad mood - which is really outside of his demeanor. I regret not reading the room and leaving. The office also felt dirty and in need of a deep clean - which isn't normal for this space. I After x-rays, which I didn't ask for, he found 2 other fillings and or cavities that needed fixing (honestly I can't remember if it was his work or old work). During the work, I felt like he was rushing with the drilling yet taking a very long time to bond. The bond did not take multiple times - and knowing what I know now I am sure this has contributed to my issues. Needless to say, I left with a lot of pain which is unusual for me - I have a very high threshold. The pain from those fillings never subsided. I have extreme cold and hot sensitivity now, almost 6 months later. I have sought a second opinion, and was then sent to an Endodontist from that new dentist. Both have said that due to the quality and technique used for the work, I need a root canal on one tooth and that the other may need a root canal if re-bonding does not subside the pain. It seems my pulp has been exposed, or the drilling was too aggressive and deep. I am going to seek a third opinion with a wholistic dentist now to see if I can avoid a root canal. I am beyond devastated - I did not have any pain or sensitivities on these teeth prior, and have been unable to chew on that side of my mouth since. I truly feel that one bad day in his chair, where he may not have been fully cognizant of his work, has left me with a lifelong and potentially health-damaging consequence. I am immunocompromised, and the decision to undergo a root canal is an extremely serious consideration for me. read more

I am highly appreciative of the excellent dental care I received from Dr. Josh. I went to him to examine a painful tooth of mine, even though he was out of network for my Dental HMO, because he was highly recommended by friends. I'm glad I did. First off, he is super nice. But for those of you reading, I'm guessing that isn't your main concern. So to cut to that: I got very high quality work done with minimal discomfort, in a pleasant and comfortable office. I ended up needing a root canal and a crown, and everything is great now. My crown is super comfortable. He also made a special accommodation for me, which was to put on the crown with no anesthestic shot. (I have hereditary angioedema and it is risky for me to get shots in my mouth). He took great care to ensure that even without anesthetic, I felt basically no pain or discomfort. I believe that very few dentists have the skill and patience to pull that off. Now that my work has open enrollment for insurance, I made sure I got on a Dental PPO so that I can go back to Dr Josh for my next checkup! read more

Look no further for why the medical system is broken than Silverlake Dental's insurance verification and appointment cancellation "policy." I'm a new patient, I fill out forms and paperwork within minutes of my initial call, and get an appointment scheduled 3 weeks in future. The Friday before the appointment, while in a day of meetings 2000 miles away, I get a call from Silverlake Dental saying they're unable to verify something about my MetLife insurance. First I've heard of this, I'd submitted the insurance info as a condition of setting up the appointment weeks ago and received no prior feedback indicating a problem, none of my insurance paperwork is with me as I'm traveling, I'll have to look it up when back home Monday. But here's the catch: on the Monday of the appointment, if there actually *is* a problem with my insurance, it will be too late to cancel the appointment without paying a cancellation fee. I make it clear that whatever insurance information they've elected to wait till the last minute to verify was just as available the day I booked the appointment as it is today, and that the "will there be time to verify insurance prior to eating the cost of a day-of cancellation fee" is ENTIRELY of their own making. Not only does the woman on the phone fail to acknowledge this avoidable self-imposed policy flaw and the inconvenience it imposes on customers, she mechanically and indifferently repeats the "office policy" message regarding the cancellation fee as if it were handed down on stone tablets, that no simple customer shall dare challenge it or point out the obvious shortcoming in it. There was room in this conversation to make it feel like "there's a decent chance it will work out, it usually does" or "if it comes down to it and there's a problem with the verification that we couldn't identify upfront then we won't burden you with a cancellation fee," or even anything resembling "I know, it's kind of a weird policy, I appreciate the feedback, but unfortunately we're a little stuck," etc, but this woman almost seemed to relish the chance to point out that there was no way they could have checked the insurance sooner, and there's no way to cancel an appointment without penalty after that point when the insurance could first be verified. read more

Went here several years ago and the dentist was so nice that I felt bad leaving a bad review, but I don't feel that it's fair to patients to see 5 stars average after what I went through. It was a simply cavity repair by filling. He left the gap between the teeth far too large. He attempted to repair it twice after and wasn't able to, a part of me felt bad for him. Fillings shouldn't be that hard, I've had many with other dentists prior to that. I had to switch dentists and the new one was able to fix it. Just be careful read more

Dr. Josh is a warm and caring presence and genuinely seemed to care about my well-being. However, he misdiagnosed my tooth problem and sent me to get a root canal (cost over $1,000), when in reality, my tooth was cracked and needed to be pulled. After the root canal, I was still in pain, and Dr. Josh seemed perplexed by that. I did not know what to expect as it was my first root canal, so I hoped the residual pain and inflammation would go away, but it never did. Even after repeated visits to get my teeth cleaned for a year and a half, and Dr. Josh seeing that there was no improvement in my tooth, his only suggestion was that I would need a new crown. Well, after paying nearly $1,000 for a new crown, the pain did not go away. I was finally diagnosed with a cracked tooth at a dental school, and they told me the only way to deal with a cracked tooth is to pull it. So, I lived in pain all this time and paid thousands of dollars for unnecessary procedures because of misdiagnosis. I sent an email to Dr. Josh to inform him of what happened, but did not receive a reply. One thing you will never hear a dentist say is, "I was wrong all along - would you like a refund?" We just have to live with the fact that they may not have the depth of experience required to know what to do to help us, or they just don't care enough to get to the root of the matter. I ended up going to the University of Utah dental school to finally got the help I needed. Bottom line, if you are in pain and Dr. Josh recommends his "friend" the endodontist, you may want to get a second opinion. read more

Dr. Josh and his team are wonderful, kind and attentive. When I moved 40 miles away from the office I decided I was going to make the trek 2x a year because I just couldn't imagine finding a better dentist. I even made it 3x in rush hour traffic this year since I had some work to be done! His care plans are always conservative, yet thorough, which I appreciate. I've had terrible experiences with dentists and Silverlake Dental Group really changed my outlook. Dr. Josh constantly checks in on you, making sure you're not in pain. I had a wonderful experience here. Dr. B is so chill and friendly. He offers exactly what you need without pushing extra services on you the way some dentists do. I had an implant placed in another state and had been struggling to find a dental office who would be able to complete the job (scan my implant, order and place the crown). I had called around to several other offices that told me they had to charge an outrageous amount to order all the required equipment, that they had to do a head CT. Dr. B was straightforward. He checked that he had the necessary equipment and since he did, we proceeded to finally get a crown in an implant I had placed over 2 years ago! This was such an easy experience. I love the staff at his office, they are so sweet and nice (I was super late to an appointment and they were able to accommodate me). I will likely return. read more

I signed up with this dental office through my dental insurance carrier. It had been over a year since my last cleaning and I selected this dental office as it is located close to home. Dr. Barkhordar treated me. He conducted a thorough dental examination and explained his findings with me, providing digital images of his findings which I appreciated. Dr. Barkhordar was pleasant, knowledgeable and very accommodating. I felt very comfortable with him. He made my visit pleasant, eliminating the general dental visit fear. I'm so glad I found this practice, and with some bad experiences with other dentists in the past, I only wish I'd found it sooner! Dr. Josh has a really calm and friendly demeanor, and he does a great job of going slow, checking in, and explaining what he's doing step by step. His hygienists and office staff are also super friendly, and I appreciate that they will proactively reach out when they've had cancellations to see if you want to come in sooner. They also started to offer a "membership" program where you make a one-time payment for the year, and that covers your cleanings and gives a discount on any additional services. I did the math and it was better cost savings than my previous dental insurance! For a freelancer like myself that sometimes has insurance coverage and sometimes doesn't, this is such a great option. I went into Silverlake Dental to have a fully functional filling replaced as the filling was very old and I was concerned it may fall out at some point. After the filling was replaced I had a lot of pain, I went back to Silverlake dental and they said I needed an "adjustment", which was done. Days later the pain was back, I did not call Silverlake Dental as I figured I needed to find a different dentist. The week between Christmas and New Year the pain went into overdrive, I emailed, called, and texted the number on the voicemail of Silverlake Dental to try and get Joshua Barkhorder to call in a prescription for antibiotics so I could A. be out of pain, and B. figure out myself if it was an infection or faulty dentistry. No one called me back at all, I got antibiotics from an online prescription service. After the new year, I went to another dentist who confirmed my filling was drilled way too close to the nerve. I paid 2400$ for a root canal and crown to fix it. I let Silverlake Dental know this and again received no response. The office is clean, the dentist is nice enough but an elective filling replacement ended up with a very costly root canal. The lack of communication is unacceptable. read more

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Barkhordar. He was very thorough, detail oriented, and compassionate. He took the time to review my x-rays with me and explain the treatment plan. What I appreciate most about his care is his kindness. I really get the sense that Dr. Barkhordar sees his patients as more than just patients. He was constantly checking in to make sure I was comfortable and not experiencing pain. Additionally, I never got the sense that he was upselling me on anything. The ease of scheduling appointments was also a huge plus. I appreciated being able to communicate via text. Isabel, who coordinates scheduling, billing, and assists Dr. Barkhordar with cleanings, worked hard to squeeze me in when I needed more urgent visits as well.
