I sincerely wish I'd read reviews for Modern Carpet One before I spent $ with them. One carpet smelled like feces, so I called the sales person David and he had it picked up by Pablo. Pablo called me claiming it didn't smell bad and said he would wash it and return it. Needless to say, I don't want a used carpet so I declined. I then called David, the sales person and he said he knew nothing about this matter, which is not true since I had initially taken it up with him. David then said the owner would call me about a resolution but he never did. I called and left David a follow up message, asking him to call me but he ghosted me. On 2/19/26, two people from the store visited our home to measure for the potential tile project. Two days later, we went in to select tiles. We took 3 tile samples home and asked for a quote for all 3. No response. So a few days later, we went back in to return the tiles and reiterated that we now wanted the quotes. Another week went by, so I called and asked again for the quotes. It is now 03/09/26 with no response. Obviously, we went elsewhere. read more

Frank and his team were fantastic to deal with! I highly recommend them. I recently bought a condo built in 1965. It had original fixtures, flooring and mismatched carpeting and tile. I was thrilled to find a place that had not had any updates (my realtor thought I was nuts) because I didn't want to pay for someone's "on the cheap" remodel. I gutted everything and replaced the flooring, kitchen and bathroom. Selecting the floor is one of the most difficult decisions in a remodel. Not only is it expensive, it sets the tone for the look and feel of the whole place. I debated between hardware and luxury vinyl and finally decided that the luxury vinyl is the best material for this place. Because the deck is covered the living/dining/kitchen felt drab and dark so I wanted something light but not yellow toned. I love art and wanted a gallery feel. I looked at every local store and online but the only one I LOVED was this one from Carpet One. I saw many others, most were less expensive but ultimately decided to get the one I loved. Updating my review. The store manager called and left a message to contact her regarding my dissatisfaction. I called her cell phone and left a message which was never returned. Once again I called the store and it just so happened the owner of the company was in the store that day. He scheduled me right away to have the carpet re-stretched at no cost. They came yesterday and the carpet looks like it should. Today the owner called to confirm that the work was done and to make sure I was happy with it. Wish it hadn't taken months frustration and phone calls on my part to get this resolved. In the end they did take care of the problem. read more

Very disappointed in Modern Carpet One in Annapolis. I used them about 7 years ago for porcelain tile in my kitchen & entryway & was pleased. Recently, as I prepared to retire, I had them do LVP on my main floor, again was happy with the end result. Trusting them, I went back to have my entire 2nd floor carpeted. I was shown a single board with carpet samples. I advised Harving that I wanted carpet quality as "good or better than" what was being replaced (which was 20 years old with some stains but in excellent condition) & was assured this quality was "better than". Installers were less than adequate but in the end I loved the color and was happy to have the job completed. One year later the carpet was showing wear on the steps (was then told the stairs don't matter when it comes to wear & tear!), it was matted down & lumpy where I walked. This is a very low traffic household, I can count on one hand the number of folks who even walked on this carpet. I was not happy, called Harving & sent pictures. He did send different installers and they re-laid the carpet in several areas as he said installation was Carpet One's responsibility. I pointed out the matted down areas & let him know I was not pleased. This carpet was supposed to last me for years into my retirement. He said he would file a claim with Shaw (carpet manufacturer) & after much back & forth I was told "claim denied". I had to email 4 times to request the status & never heard from Shaw. I complained again, how is it OK that the carpet looks like this in little over a year? I had some folks in the carpet business take a look & they thought the carpet looked much, much older than slightly over a year. Back to Carpet One, they said they'd file a claim "again" with Shaw. This time I got a claim number (makes me wonder if a claim was even submitted previously). Adjuster came, took a look, "commiserated" with me and shortly thereafter I received notification "claim declined for normal wear & tear". "Quality" carpet should not show wear & tear after a year. I replied to Shaw & Carpet One letting them know how unhappy I was, I felt as a long term customer I had been treated very shabbily. They took my money & ran! So, buyer beware! If they would treat a long time customer like this who knows what they will do to you. I would have paid twice the amount for good quality carpeting and I was "had". Never even knew who the manufacturer was or about the warranty (just that it was better than what was being replaced, NOT), I had to go back & ask. They must receive special commission on this and that's why they push it. Hope this prevents someone else from being in this same situation. read more

My family and I have had a wonderful experience with Modern Carpet One Floor & Home of Annapolis. My parents had ordered hardwood floors and carpet for renovations. Even though my parents live out of state, Modern Carpet One was able to accommodate us. There was an issue with installing the hardwood floors due to the house being old. Frank, the owner, was in contact and even came to help assist with the hardwood installation. Quickly the issue was resolved and the hardwood floors look impeccable! The installation was spread out over a period of approximately six weeks due to scheduling conflicts with their workers and a failure to order enough materials. So their pitfalls were not apparent to me, until after I had bought and paid for my tiles. The salesman was very helpful and really made sure that I had everything I needed for my flooring project. The selections were good and the prices were decent. They had the designs and colors that I wanted so that's why I went with them. They had a few sales, but not on any tiles that I wanted. They have very unique tiles, so no Blah looking ones here. But the their good points stop here. They are way too used to providing their own labor and delivery and not very helpful to people who are doing their own projects on their own. If you do get tiles from this place, don't buy until you are ready to pick up as soon as it arrives. They're really pushy about you coming in ASAP to pick up the tiles. If you don't pick them up soon, they will threaten to send them back to the warehouse and charge you a re-stocking fee. The sales associate told me I can pick it up on the weekends, and they made me come in on a Tuesday (which I hadn't planned to). If they wanted them picked up ASAP, then they should have told me that up front. I was led to believe that I can pick them up at my earliest opportunity which is the weekend. The logistics of having to pick up 2000 sqft of tile is not exactly easy. If I didn't have a pick up truck, I would have had to inconvenience somebody to borrow a truck at the last minute to help pick them up. Not cool. We have busy lives and would prefer for them to be up front about when someone should pick up the tiles. Not everyone wants to pay outrageous delivery and labor fees to have them deliver. They should be more helpful to do-it-yourself customers if they want our business again. read more

The only reason they get one star is their price. First, I was dealing with Jim (VP of marketing) most of the time. Whenever i went in to go over our project he seemes to not be ready or asked for time to get everything ready. He did this even though I made appointments with him and called him 15 minutes prior to me arriving. Second, I got new granite coutertops and floor tiles through them. The granite people installed a slab of granite with a chip in it. I called the owner of Modern carpet and she kept assuring me someone would be out to fix it. This happened for the better part of a month. The tile people also broke my pocket door but I decided not to tell the owner as i knew it would be a hassle to deal with them again. I NEVER complain but these people were horrible. They seemed to only want the money and nothing else. i never got a call back to see if the problem was fixed. i always had to be the one calling. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Spend a couple extra dollars to not have to deal with these people!! read more

Easy to give 5 stars when all goes well with your carpet install. But even more impressive when you hit a glitch, and they step up to the plate and go above and beyond to make it right. That's exactly what Tony did when my original carpet didn't fit quite right but we were leaving town for the winter. As promised, once we got back in the summer, he had a brand new carpet fitted, cut, bound, and installed with no cost to us. We ordered tile and had it installed. The installer was good and floor is what we wanted (not exactly but happy with it), but process was a disaster. To start the tile was not ordered or delivered on the date that it was promised, it was 3 days late. Just a note it would be prudent to check if the tile was shipped when it was supposed to ship especially when you have time sensitive customers. I kept saying the floor would need leveling, and that it would take an extra day, but the salesperson did not listen and didn't include the price of leveling for the job. So we freaked out when the installer gave us the price on the leveling, we were prepared to do it ourselves, but we did find an agreeable price to have the installer do it. On to the next, the grout was not the one we ordered, color or type, after I pointed it out the installer brought different bags with a different color but still not what we ordered but it was close enough so I took it, the radiant heat took 2 days to install because the installer did not notice the size limitations on a 120 circuit (it says online the size of the room a 120 circuit can run, our room is much too big). The installation that was supposed to take 3 days took 5 days including the weekend, so we were happy they started Wed and finished on a Sunday but we couldn't move anything over until Sunday night/Monday morning. I will say the floor looks great and the radiant heat works, I wish I could get a warm fuzzy from it but don't, I feel like they sold me tile and radiant floor, I don't feel like a customer which is unfortunate because they have a good selection. read more

After a few initial concerns and frustrations, I was very pleased with the end result. Owner Frank went above and beyond to get the delayed area rug delivered, and rectified a post-delivery problem. His efforts made everything worthwhile. My advice is to deal with Frank directly for the most efficient customer service. You'll be glad you did! read more

He deal with my issue and sincerely wanted it to be righted which he tried to the best of his ability. I will shop there again. Original review- I did not have a good experience. DON'T pay in full until they deliver the rug. The high end carpet store I usually get my wool rugs through in Baltimore closed up shop so I had limited choices of who to deal with. Tough to get sales people's attention in the store. The staff doesn't know their selection that well (I asked for wool, what I bought was a wool blend, the only reason I knew was I called the manufacturer after the fact and they told me). I ended up dealing with the owner. He said he would do his best to get me the rug by a certain date (we had a large party planned Sept 16) and he did deliver it (Sept 12) but when they laid it out you could see where the rug was seamed, the pattern didn't match up. This was a large (23x16) expensive rug (I don't even want to admit what I spent on it). I couldn't believe it was made so poorly. The owner sent someone to pick it up the following week (Sept 28) and it's due to be delivered today Oct 4. I'm praying that it looks good otherwise, it's going back. This has been a painful process and I will not be doing business with them in the future. Such a shame since this is the local business but I'll have to travel to Baltimore or DC to avoid such unprofessional work in the future. read more

Lousy customer service. We spent $7000 on an install and the installer left an unknown contaminant from his kneepads (likely oil) all over the carpet in two of the rooms. We discovered this a few weeks after the install when the contaminant oxidized and turned brown. Carpet One dragged their feet for 3 months by denying responsibility and failing to promptly return calls. Finally, the cause was determined by the carpet manufacturer and Carpet One sent a cleaning company who used too much cleaner and water on the carpet. The carpet was soaked and took 2 days to dry. Carpet One didn't even bother to contact us to determine if the cleaning company had satisfactorily performed the work. Avoid Carpet One at all costs. read more

I wouldn't recommend them. They were very persistent on us to buy carpet and getting out to put it in. Prices were reasonable. Then when it came time for install we had a small problem with the subfloor, we were stuck between a rock and a hard spot. They totally ripped us on subfloor repair. After balance was paid in full never heard from them again, not even a thank you. Save your money and time. read more

Re: carpet: The sales people were nice enough but their installers are totally incompetent, non-english speaking and barely trained to do their jobs. My carpet, a sort of box pattern, was installed partly in one direction and partly at 90 degrees to it. The joins were so obvious that I made them come back and replace the part that was turned. The replacement initially looked OK, but 4 months later it's coming loose and the ends are unraveling. A really unprofessional job... and not cheap. read more

After experiencing a washing machine flood in my downstairs in 2009, I worked through a contractor to replace the entire first level flooring in my townhouse and he recommended Carpet One in Annapolis. The manager and sales people appeared to be very responsive and helpful UNTIL the flooring was ordered and the installation process began. The installation team arrived at the wrong time on both of the scheduled appointments..first bad sign. Once we finally got the new floors in, it clearly seemed to be a problem because the floors would not clean...I was told to only use a water base cleaner...then was told that was incorrect so to use a special floor cleaner which they did bring to my house and try. It is as if the flooring was defective or like it was not treated with the proper coating because nothing gets it clean. It always has some form of film on it and as soon as you walk on it...it shows every footprint. I questioned it many times and the manager made it clear that there was nothing they could do. I let it go and have spent the past 3 years mopping 3 times per week and still...no clean floor. I finally bought large rugs to cover it...what a waste of time and money. It only recently dawned on me to write a review because I am now having to replace it as I just cannot live with it any longer. My insurance company paid Carpet One $10,000 for a floor that is not worth $100.00. Buyer beware...this was one of the worst experiences and one of the most costly.
