The BEST place to go for weddings! My husband, my father, my father-in-law, and all of the groomsmen were obsessed with how great they looked in their tuxes for our wedding! We had the mobile showroom come to my parents house, where John was able to measure all of the guys while we were in the comfort of our home. He even was able to work with our groomsmen who lived out of state and could not travel for the fitting. It was such an amazing experience to use the mobile showroom, which is absolutely stunning and such a creative idea! We even had our final fitting the week of the wedding with the mobile showroom! John went above and beyond for us and we could not have asked for a better experience! My husband loves looking back at the pictures and seeing how well his tux fit him. He especially loved the vest/ bowtie combo that John suggested for him. Even the groomsmen told us after the wedding that they have never felt so good/comfortable in a rental before using Modern Formals! I am going to be completely honest. The customer service was amazing and John went above and beyond to get me and my groomsmen fitted. But the positives end there. Day of try on/pick up I felt rushed. Maybe that was because I got there minutes before they were closing but I had called ahead of time and asked if it was ok to come so late. They had the opportunity to tell me to come the next day, and that would have been fine. Fast forward to our wedding day, one of my groomsmen had a 1.5" hole in the crotch area and another not only had a button missing from his vest but when he put it on another button fell off. At the end of the day he is selling a product. And for the almost 2000$ price I paid to rent 7 tuxedos I feel like the product was not up to par. When I told John about my issues he basically said we should have examined the suits ourselves. And offering a free tuxedo rental in the future. lol no thanks! I am so disappointed in this place. I worked with John on getting a suit for a wedding. I payed about $200 for the rental. I couldn't wear the suit to the wedding. When I got to the hotel to put it on the hemming he had done came right out. I had to then go buy something on the fly to wear. I brought the suit back. He wasn't working when I dropped it off. I also have called many times to talk to him at the location he never called me back after about 6-7 calls. I have left messages as well. I had an appointment for my wedding that I arrived at with my parents and clearly was forgotten about. The owner John had no idea what I was there for and had multiple people waiting ahead if me. All when I was told to come back then because he "wouldn't be busy". After over 20 minutes waiting he told me he'd personally open the store 2 weeks later at 10am for me. At 10:05 am on the 22nd with my mother, the store is closed. I call him and he's clearly forgotten AGAIN and apologizes saying I can be there in ten minutes. I told him forget it. If i could give 0 stars i would. The owner at Southington modern formals has been nothing but unprofessional. I have had two appointments with him scheduled for my fiancé BOTH in which he forgot about. The first appointment we arrived he paid us no mind, he forgot we even had the appt and made us wait more than a half hour before having us RESCHEDULE TO ANOTHER DATE. Now get to the second appointment. Which the owner scheduled during closed hours. He specifically said he would come down to open the shop for us, and give us a one on one experience as he had ALREADY messed up the first time by forgetting our appointment and making us wait inside his store for over a half an hour while he helped countless other customers who did not have appointments. 10 minutes has gone by and still no sign of the owner showing up to the store, so we give him a call and ask if he has forgotten about us again with a very long pause stutters and says uhh uhh i can be there in 10 minutes.. We declined at that point. Multiple days off work, for multiple people, so much money lost in just going back and forth and taking time off for his unprofessional work ethic. His lack of care, and unprofessional attitude is something I will never want to worth with NOR reccomend to a single soul. Not a dollar of my money will EVER go that business, and I hope to make some people aware of how this man likes to do business. I should have known when my coworkers son got a ripped suit for his prom and the owner thought it was funny and didnt call the kids mother back for 6 weeks.. This review is for their Middletown location** My father used Modern Formals for his prom and then my brother also used them for his and I finally just recently used them for my wedding this past September. My husband, all of his groomsmen, our fathers, grandfathers and ring bearer were all outfitted by Modern Formals and they all looked amazing! As most of the groomsmen are all over the U.S., with the majority on the west coast, Modern Formals made it easy for them to submit their measurements either online or by phone. On the initial meeting, I brought my dress in and they were so helpful in choosing a tuxedo that matched my dress/the bridesmaids perfectly. The staff made sure to keep on the guys making sure they submitted their measurements and were very flexible in the date the guys would go to pick up their tuxes/make sure(which in turn, made my life easier). They even let us leave the tuxes at the Inn at Middletown(where we were staying) and they picked them up from there. Overall, I would definitely use them again in the future- every tux fit perfectly and all of the guys looked amazing! read more

This is for the Southington Location*** We used Modern Formals for a Saturday wedding we had a bigger party and some of our grooms men were from out of state, even with that it was an easy process for them to be able to get their sizes in enough time for the wedding. The service that we had received was beyond expectations, my entire vision was brought together in a blink of an eye. The manger was hands on and very interactive with the whole party. We ran into a issue when it came to sizes but in little to no time the manger was able to give me pants that were a better fit with only 30 mins until the wedding started. They were very professional when it came to more of the business side of the transactions but he still was very generous with prices with us having such a larger number of tuxedos being purchased. The whole time that we were in his shop we felt welcomed and put first when it came to what we wanted. He had a great eye when it came to what looked best he went out of his way to make my special day amazing and I would use Modern Formals again in the future. Rented my tuxedo here based on my Best Man's advice. He had rented tux's for both of his proms here and loved it. We had 6 groomsmen, including the best man, the ring bearer, both of our fathers and our 2 living grandfathers that rented tux's here. The service is amazing and the tux's looked great! John gave me a suit, instead of the usual free tux for groom, which I thought was a better deal. I also bought another suit from them since I was so pleased with the first one. This place may be a few bucks more than other options, but the quality is much better. Another example of their great service is that they took extra cloth from the bridesmaids' dresses and made it into handkerchiefs the the groomsmen's pockets. My wife loved this. read more

Amazing service! I am a female musician needed a tux shirt, vest, and bow tie for an upcoming gig. Im also plus size, so its not easy to find. DON'T GO. They take measurements, but ignore them. Shirts had yellow collars. One Shirt had a stain. Father of the groom picked up his tux and there were items still in the pockets from prior client. Also, length of trousers was too short and different lenghts by 2-3 inches. Trousers were so tight 3 of the men could not button them. The father of the bride said when he went to pick up his tux and tried it on, they checked nothing. He told them the trousers were too tight, they ignored him. The jacket was at least two sizes too big and the sleeves were different lengths. Based on our experience they are completely indfferent to quality or customer satisfaction. ZERO STARS . read more

Never again. We used modern formals for a Friday wedding. There was the father of the bride, the groom, and six groomsmen. Needless to say, we had a large order which added up to a large amount of money being spent. Unfortunately, We were not allowed to pick up the tuxes until after 10 o'clock in the morning on the day before the wedding. However, most people were at work and could not get to the store before they closed at 5 o'clock. It was very unfortunate because once we did get the suits, there were countless issues with them. The stitching was uneven and looked as though a child had done it. The fabric had pulls all over it. There were stains on the ivory shirts the groomsmen were wearing. The measurements had all been done incorrectly, and the store did not have the proper sizes so that they could be corrected. I was tremendously disappointed that a place that has such a significant role in big events would pass out such embarrassing work. read more

I needed a tux quick. I went in on Thursday @ 5pm for a tux I needed on Saturday. This guy John was great. He didn't chastise me for coming in so late. He was very professional and polite. He fitted me quick and I left with a tux in 15 minutes. By the way, they had a lot to chose from. I found out later that I paid 25 dollars less than others who attended the event and got theirs from another place. Looked good for less is always nice. This is a real review from a real person.
