I've been visiting Summer's Blowout Salon for 3 years. My hair is medium length, wavy and prone to frizzing. Summer and Eman are expert stylists and transform my hair within 30 minutes! The style lasts for the entire week. They are very accommodating and their prices are reasonable. I think the only thing that could be improved upon is the shampoo. A-OK. Appointment was extremely easy to make however there was no confirmation sent out prior to my appointment and when I arrived I was scared they forgot about me because the hair stylist seemed pissed that I was there. It was a little awkward. I am assuming it was the owner who said something to the stylist in another language and the stylist took me for a wash; however I stopped her so she can take a look at me my face and my hair before she got it all wet. The haircut and style was good. She did good job with the blow dry. She is obviously very talented but while I was in a chair her child called and it was obvious he was back from school and was looking for her the call went on the PE system. The stylist needed to be home that's why she was so shocked to see me for a haircut at 3pm. I appreciate the effort but I wished I made the appointment at another time that was mutually good for both of us and the experience would have been better. read more

Overall - this is a great place to get your hair done last minute with a good price. They're usually very accommodating and will try to fit you in their schedule. Ladies are really nice and do a good job. I usually just get the regular blowout and it's all decently priced. One thing that could be better is the scheduling/appointments procedure. Each time i've gone, I have had to wait a while to just get hair washed/blowout started even if I have an appointment. I understand sometime things run late, however, after a while it's like when will they start. Personally, I'd rather come a little bit later instead of just sitting there. But they don't mention that when you call. read more

I was in desperate need of a blow dry and my usual location wasn't available to take me. I was going to chase bank and came across this salon. They were able to take me within 30mins of me calling them. Since this was my first time, I wasn't sure who I should go see. They assigned me to Marina. She shampooed and blow dried my hair. I always love a good head massage while I'm getting shampooed. She did great! She blow dried my hair and then flat ironed r. She even got the side pieces that every stylist ALWAYS misses! My blowout was fine but it seems like everyone knew everyone else and I felt like an outsider

I visited this salon when it first opened. I was not impressed. Back story - I learned about the salon from Summer when she worked for a different salon. I had seen her and one or two other stylists at the other salon, liked their work. So, when Summer opened her own salon, I was open to trying it. I made an appointment with Summer, figuring I would get the same service I had grown accustomed to previously. Not the case. Pros: The interior is beautiful, the product lines are great. Cons: The salon seems to be working under the churn-and-burn method. The wash was not great, and when I asked for a better wash I was told, "it's good enough." Summer does not have all the brushes/proper driers bc my hair did not hold the blowout like I've become accustomed. I left with a blowout that didn't hold, looked like a mess, and seemed unprofessional. Definitely not what I expected from a Northbrook salon! The final disappointing moment, the cost. As a loyal customer and someone that gets frequent blowouts, the cost for what I got was definitely not worth it. read more

stylists are fine but the experience is radically uncomfortable. The shampoo chairs aren't lined up with the sinks properly so your neck is hyper extending to get your hair washed. The ventilation is so poor that on a busy day it's like a fog covers the entire shop from the product and blow dryers. They are very nice when you schedule with lots of "honeys" but they're disorganized, don't text appointment reminders and frequently don't have change for tips. read more

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because they were able to fit us in last minute. But I left looking like I came out of the 70s! I asked for loose curls, and she used a square straightener that left a lot of weird kinks . The only reason I didn't say anything is because they were closing soon and I could tell they were in a hurry to leave. Would not go back. read more

Great blowout!! I was a walk-in and they took me immediately. A sweet girl washed and conditioned my hair. I had a black eye and face bruise I wanted my long bangs blown over to hide my injury. Mary was very sweet and did the exact blowout I wanted. I have long thick curly hair that is hard to blow straight. Mary used about 10 round brushes as rollers, which takes me over an hour to do. She had my hair blown out with tons of volume in maybe 40 minutes! Without damage!! I'm very picky about my hair and she really did a great job. She does an awesome blowout!! The best part...the price!! They are 1/2 the price I pay in California/Bay Area if you're in Chicago and need a blowout, go see Mary!! Very good stylist! read more

I won't be back at Summer's any time soon. A few weeks ago I popped in on a Friday afternoon to get a blowout. I called ahead and they said they could fit me in ASAP. After looking at their web site I saw the prices were $25 for a blowout, $30 if you have thick or curly hair. Fine by me. My blowout was good and I was very satisfied, until I went to the cash register to pay. My stylist instructed the receptionist to charge me $35. I'm not one to make a scene so I paid, grabbed a price list, and walked out. Once I reviewed the aforementioned prices I was astonished to see that I'd been charged an additional $5 for no apparent reason. I am the first to say I have a LOT of hair and I can totally understand nor do I mind having to pay extra for a stylist's time. What I do not understand is the stylist not being up front about it and then charging me an additional $5 more than their price list. A customer should know what they're being expected to pay up front for a service, no ifs ands or buts about it. I will not be giving my business to Summer's again any time soon, which is a shame because of their close proximity to my work place. read more

Mary did my blowout - a special treat for a special occasion and I couldn't be happier. So I'm from out of town and had to find a place that could wash and blow out my hair and this place did just that! In California we have blowout salons on every corner of every town nowadays, but I was worried I wouldn't find one to my liking. So I made an appointment the day before and was seen on time when I came in the next day. I cant speak for the wash because I didn't want to chance it and have someone leave soap in my hair (I have tons of thick hair) so I washed it myself at the hotel. anyway I was seen on time like I mentioned above and Summer got to work, very little chit chat, which I love as I'm not there to try and make friends! In about 30 mins she was done, she did some finishing touches which I thought was super cool of her because she didn't have to cover up my grays with some color spray , but she did! I paid the 30 bucks, which is a steal ladies because in CA it's 45 buck or more, and then I was out the door. I did tip her 10 bucks because she did a nice job. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I felt the vibe was not to inviting and the chi felt unwelcoming in a way. FYI- the blowout Summer did has lasted now for 6 days! read more
