I love the idea of supporting small businesses at a once a month shopping opportunity in my community! The modern makers mart really does showcase some unique businesses that are catered mostly to people who identify as female. My partner and I went over here to check out what they had. I was able to get a few gifts for Mother's Day and for an upcoming birthday. I gave this feedback to the team and thought I would share it here. I would love to see more gender neutral items or items for guys. I want to support local and small businesses. My partner is having a hard time finding anything that he likes there. I am hopeful that they will bring other small businesses to this really cool idea!

This is the OG POPMART location that I first started going to and started my love for Pino Jellies…read more Over the years and through the hype, this POPMART is constantly busy and packed. As an art store, there are already small aisles since the store is filled with displays. The customers that come in and out aren't the kindest people. There's pushing, shoving, and nonexistent boundaries. My only hope is for some sort of expansion so there's less exchanges of germs. As an avid collector, I'm still a fan and still adore this location. My only hint to visitors: park in the building next to Din Tai Fung for the easiest and quickest access to the store!

My little brother was playing with one of the Labubu hair products when an employee came up to him and said, "You've had enough fun. Let's not ruin the product." We understood and immediately stopped. After that, though, the employee kept following us around the store, which made us feel very uncomfortable. My brother eventually said, "You don't need to follow us around." The employee then mumbled, "Why don't you shut the f**k up." When my brother asked him what he said, the employee denied it and claimed he was just doing his job. He then asked where our parents were. I called my parents over, and as soon as they arrived, the employee ran into the employee room. When my parents asked about him, another employee claimed she didn't know who we were talking about. This was strange because we had just seen the two employees talking before he went into the back. Another customer who overheard the conversation said they only heard the employee tell my brother not to mess with the products, but that wasn't the issue. The problem was that he followed us around the store and, from what we heard, cursed at my younger brother. I don't know whether he was profiling us, being discriminatory, or simply being rude, but his behavior was completely unprofessional. There was no reason to follow us around the store or speak to a child that way. Customer service like this is unacceptable. For reference, the employee was an older man with a brown beard. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name.

FOR FAMILY/FRIENDS SAMPLE SALE…read more Yike where do I begin?! This is definitely one of the events on my Bucket list that I do not wish to attend ever again:( I was given a ticket to the sample sale of this company. When I heard sample sale, I expected something different... This is the first warehouse sale I have ever been to, so I didn't know what to do, to bring or even to expect. First. If you plan of buying a lot, bring a cart, some sort of cart will allow you to push it around instead of carrying all the clothes you picked up. It will get heavy, and I see people taking in more than 10+ items. Though number sounds small, it WILL adds up. If you come on time as written on paper, you will allowed in on time, not early. The sale was taken outdoor, so you have to walk a distance to get to the sale. I saw mostly boys/men clothes, girls are okay, not much of women. I actually don't recall seeing anything of women sizes. I saw a lot of flip flops for both genders, some shoes for women, more for men. There were a lot of swim suit for both men n women. Accessories were there too... Such as phone cases and little necklaces here and there. Overall, it was not much. Not for my taste at least. They do carry snow boots. The price of your clothes are based on weight, 10/12$ per lb.... It's not bad if you are a girl since clothes weigh less compared to guys clothes. Event was definitely organized, although there were many people there(100+) , it was very well organized and process went by fast! I was in and out right away.

I was really surprised by all the variety, like clothes for adults, kids and dogs! They also have a mix of handmade items too. I got so inspired by the section with all the party decorations. It's a great place to browse and get ideas too. A couple of the reasons why I'm not giving 5 stars include the fact that I went for their self-care Sunday "event" - which even had free tickets on the Eventbrite. I am still very confused regarding the marketing of this "event". They had 1 booth to make your own floral bouquets and then a small Halloween backdrop for kids/animals. I didn't see anything self care related and it felt more like a ploy to get you to shop. I was hoping for a station with face masks, nail painting, charm bracelets, etc. I thought it would be more of a pop up type event. Either vendors dropped out or it wasn't actually an event. I still am unsure. The second thing to note is that it really felt like no one was working in the store. I saw one employee at the cash register, and that was it. Especially since it was an "event", I anticipated a warmer greeting or an explanation about the event. They had a box of donuts that said "help yourself" and some waters. Outside they had coffee and we paid $8 for a small, that was very small. The shop itself is a mix of various vendors - some homemade and some store bought. It did feel a bit overpriced at times and hard to determine which were actually handmade. But, it is an opportunity to help small businesses owners versus ordering from Amazon! The last positive to mention is that they offer a variety of crafts and classes on certain days and I'm really looking forward to checking that out.

The prices are competitive and fair, and the shop puts tremendous care into curating the items they offer to those who love stationery, stickers, and cute things. And the service has always been so warm, welcoming, and encouraging. I've had the privilege of knowing Matt, Sandy, and Aja since they were 'Plant Matter' and now they're Pen Pals. There aren't alot of stationery places as it is, so I am so glad that this shop exists. Word from a carrier pigeon is that the Pen Pals will have an expansion of a brick and mortar store soon, and I can't wait for them to finally announce the location and be open with even more selection of goods. I frequent this place often to scout for stickers, and Pen Pals never disappoints.
