I wanted to love it but found it overpriced for the portion size and freshness or quality. The taste of the food really wasn't great.

This restaurant is great. The food was excellent and the staff was hospitable and friendly. One of the friendly staff members named Rafe came and ensured our food was good and checked on us which is one of the many reasons I will be visiting Modern market a lot in the future. Modern Market's food is great and fairly affordable if you order in the store or for pickup. However, we typically order takeout from here and I have to say this restaurant produces an unnecessary amount of waste with takeout orders. If ordering online I ask for no plasticware, but the plasticware is always in the bag when I pick it up. So I take it out and return it before leaving. Also the packaging is just a lot- food is always in a huge plastic bag (can you switch to paper, or use nothing at all and ask if customers want a bag first?), plus large plastic containers for everything. I had two little covered cups of potatoes that were already packaged to go, but for some reason they were additionally packaged again inside a plastic box. Also I notice if you order via DoorDash, the food is marked up a significant amount. For example sides that are normally $2.00 each are listed as $3.50 on DoorDash, plus the delivery fee. For these two reasons I don't know that I'll be eating here anymore. Mod Market claims to be a sustainable restaurant, I don't really see that happening in reality. Pretty disappointing. read more

There were definitely some good things about this place. I got the chicken pesto sandwich which was pretty tasty, though the chicken was rather dry in places. The food definitely had a nice fresh feel to it. My boyfriend also got a vegan pizza that he seemed pleased with. The staff was mostly quite friendly and helpful, though there was some miscommunication in the ordering process. I wanted to get soup with my sandwich, so I got a cup of the tomato soup. I thought my meal was too expensive, over $15 for a sandwich, soup, and a drink. It's really nice that you can get a side salad and chips for $1 but I wish there was some way to get soup with a sandwich and not have it be so pricey. The soup was also not very good. I generally think that all tomato soups are delicious, but this was was, while not terrible, one of the worst tomato soups I've had. Overall, the food was pretty good, and I liked the ambiance, but I didn't feel like it was worth what I paid. I'll probably go back and try something else. read more

Absolutely love Modmarket. Clean, comfy digs, really friendly staff and quick and healthy food. Gluten-free pizza crust is excellent and has no soy nor corn - a rarity for restaurants. Salads and sandwiches are always fresh and just the right portions. ' Try the Mango Bean salad (greens, black beans, mango, avocado, chicken, with a chipotle lime dressing) or Thai Coconut Salad (greens, sweet potato, grated coconut, cucumber, chicken, peanut mango dressing). All the sandwiches rock. Or order a BBQ Chicken pizza (sounds like I work there, huh? - I don't). Heck, when I think about it there isn't anything on the menu that I don't think is excellent. The environment is a bit sterile and there's a lot of coming and going. But we're not talking a fine-dining experience here. Mod is great at get in, order, eat and get out - for a hike, a bike, or stroll around Boulder. My wife and I think of Mod as 'healthy fast food.' And it works for us and our 4 young kids. Probably our favorite place in Boulder so far (been here 10 months) for a quick, healthy meal. read more

Because of the very good reviews I decided we should go and give this place a shot. Bad decision. The good: my son's pepperoni pizza was tasty and well cooked. But let's face it - for pizza, go to Locale or hoof it over to Louisville to Lucky Pie. The butternut squash soup was tasty, but too thick for my taste. The ciabatta sandwiches my daughter and I got were meh - I am just not a fan of this scrape-the-top-of-my-mouth-off bread craze. To me it's just the inability or lack of care in keeping it fresh and moist enough. The fillings: bland. But the worst part of the whole experience was the Roman salad my wife ordered. Wilted, brown-around-the-edges lettuce, somewhat dry chicken, sauce that might as well be plopped out of a can, all on the side - the salad itself not seasoned at all. This is a salad that says: "I don't care - make your own damn salad, and anyhow you should have known enough to have ordered the fresh stuff." So - for a place that prides itself on fresh, healthy food, well, I can say: not fresh, definitely not memorable for taste. Might be "healthy", but not well-crafted. And way overpriced. I felt gullible for falling for the hype. I'll be back, but only because the manager was pleasant (as were all the help) and gave us a gift card because of the salad fiasco. The best I can hope for is a tasty soup and a beer - which at $12 is about too much by half. And I'll definitely be bringing my own bread to dunk in the soup. read more

Pretty disappointed, as Modmarket has been a new favorite -- pretty chaotic to-go situation tonight that left my partner waiting for a half hour (pager in hand) for our order, to learn that it had been sitting out for a while... Ran out of chicken tonight, but the cashier offered a 20% discount for the inconvenience. We ordered the steak instead. Hers came out perfect med-rare, a quality cut -- the cut on my plate was a smaller portion, med-well and mostly fatty. This isn't the first time I've experienced inconsistency with the cut of meat -- when Modmarket is on they are on, sometimes it just seems like they miss it on quality control. And at ~$14 a plate, you'd hope for a consistently good experience. read more

The Superfood salad was delicious and very substantial. Great condiment rack too. Prices really good for quality food. My only quibble being I would have liked to see a higher percentage of non-meat and/or cheeseless items on menu, but I'm sure I'd be in the minority there. I only have tried the pizza and it's definitely good. The pepe was a little soggy as someone else already mentioned, but I definitely liked the BBQ chicken. I thought the set up was cool, a little bit of a rip off of the apple store, but I didn't really feel comfortable with the seating arrangements. It felt like I was in the middle of someone else's eating space so it was a little awkward. I thought the food was good for being organic and healthy and everything. One thing I noticed that really turned me off about the place was the OWNERS. I witnessed them doing business in the middle of the restaurant and they seemed like major pricks. They were treating the employees like shit and they came off as arrogant duche bags. For a place like this, I'm always skeptical about the YUPPY factor that is so common in boulder, and I would respect this business a lot more if it was run by friendly, genuine individuals, and not greener than though jerks. But I guess that isn't a big deal, just an observation. I will definitely eat there again because of the quality and the price (you basically get a CPK style pizza for the price of a wendys or subway meal). read more

Wow, this place is spot on with excellent service, great food, healthy choices, focused staff, and it's perfectly priced for the $$. I eat here at least 3 times a week these days. Go try it, it's awesome! The only complaint I have is that the lemons that are left out by the drinks get used and tossed back into the same container where the fresh lemons are supposed to be; I'd recommend a different system on that front. I'd also put the lids on the same side as the other amenities, it makes no sense to have to go to the other side then back to the other when people are trying to get ice and fill their drinks. read more

If I was allowed 10 stars, Mod Market would have earned them all. First off, I personally could eat here a few times a day. My go to is the Superfoods Salad. I've also had the brick oven pizza and you can't go wrong there. I've heard pulled pork sandwich and steak dinner & salad also great. You know what it's like...friends/family come to town, you are out exploring all day and suddenly everyone has to eat NOW! A few people want salads, another a sandwich, while my dad is demanding "MEAT"...THIS IS ONE STOP DINING THAT WILL SATISFY EVERYONE! Love the clean modern decor as well! This used to be my favorite quick restaurant in Boulder. I came last night after not having been in for a few months and was sad to see how far downhill Mod Market has gone. The girl who took my order didn't greet us or know the menu at all. My friend asked what veggies came in the "fire roasted veggies" side and her response was "uhhh I don't know broccoli maybe". My plate and a drink were $17. As we waited for our to go food I took a peak at the kitchen and around the restaurant and couldn't believe how dirty it was. There was trash all over the counter and floors and the kitchen was just as bad. When the food came the man who handed it to us didn't ask if we wanted silverware or give a sincere send off and after we looked all over the restaurant for it we went back and asked and he handed it over with a rude look on his face. The salmon was so fishy and tough it tasted frozen and the rest of the portions were too small to justify a $15 price tag. I work at a fast casual restaurant that has very high standards for food and service and couldn't believe the difference I experienced. I'm not one to usually write reviews but our experience was so bad I felt it warranted one. Hopefully Mod Market can become more consistent with their service and food quality or I think they will continue losing business. read more

ModMarket a brand new entrant into the Boulder casual dining scene is very good and offers a new assortment of choices for dining at the 29th Street Mall. Flatbreads, salads and real food are the name of the game and I tried both today. My suggestion is go with the side salad and the 1/2 flat bread pizza full portions are huge and full order of salad and pizza will easily feed two adults. The salads are great and offer most everything you would want to garnish yours with. The interior is trendy white and black reminds be of a night club with the lights turned on. Time your visit to avoid the high noon hours because it takes a while to make the pizza and the lines are crazy long. read more

I went to MOD Market for lunch today. It was deeeelicious! They made us a Vegan M'rita pizza and a salad. We had the Ginger Soy dressing on the salad and it was the best I've had. They made us a vegan pizza with cubed Teese and it was good, but not great, then they remade it cutting up the Teese into teensy tiny pieces and it was AWESOME! They do a great job, their food is healthy, fresh, and yummy! read more

Stopped by for lunch after reading some yelp reviews. The sandwiches looked really good but once my eyes catch the word: coconut, I'm done. I ordered the Thai coconut salad with chicken breast, large size. The presentation was great. A large bed of mixed greens, with shredded sweet potato, finely grated coconut and marinated chicken breast. I'm usually not a fan of chicken breast because it is dry sometimes, but this breast was moist and seasoned well. The dressing was like a thick curry dressing that went very well with everything. We enjoyed our lunch outside. It was pretty busy on a saturday afternoon, but still some seating. The price is a little high, but the ingredients tasted very fresh and I didn't feel ripped off. I want to try one of their sandwiches next time. read more

I used to eat at this place pretty frequently, but have started eating here less and less due to the their decrease in quality over the years. As others have noted, they have gone down hill in the past few years due to a very noticeable cut in costs in that negatively affects their quality of food. I remember the days their sandwiches came with a side salad, pickle and you could order a bag of chips. Now the side salad is extra and you get about 5 or 6 chips (no joke) in a tiny little bag that they almost always forget to include. If you order chicken with a salad you get a few tiny pieces. Yet as portions have been cut, you continue to pay the same high prices. And others have noted, their steak sandwiches are almost always cold. The high prices used to be worth it, and now I consistently walk away feeling disappointed. read more

March 22, 2017 . I just left modern market after ordering a lot of food. We arrived 15 minutes before closing time. After the one girl took our order, the other girl named RAFE was clearly very pissed off that we showed up 15 minutes before closing. I watched her throw my two salads together. She was literally chucking the ingredients in the plastic container and verbally bitching and cursing all in my ear shot. At one point she dropped an entire salad on the floor cause she was being so abrupt. I have never been treated with such utter disdain and lack of respect in my life. I will be calling the head quarters cause this angry nasty female worker should NOT be working with customers. Perhaps she should get a job where she NEVER has to talk with anyone. Whoever the manager on duty was should have fired her on the spot. Soon after her tirade with us, a few more customers came in BEFORE closing time and she proceeded to turn them away. When she was finished with her bitchy temper tantrum, she was joking and laughing with the other workers. I asked (who i thought was the manager) what her name was and he told me. If he was the manager, he should go back to training and learn how to handle his crew. This young female worker with blonde hair with a vile attitude should be fired CAUSE SHE CERTAINLY IS NOT A GOOD REPRESENTATIVE FOR THIS RESTAURANT!!!!!!! UPDATE: after my brutally honest review above, headquarters got in touch with me and offered me a $20 Coupon. We went again 5 days later and the service was 10x better!!!! the food was very good too. Had a delicious salad and lovely experience tonight at the Modern Market in Boulder! The girl who took my order knowledgeably (and nicely) walked me through the differences between their Super and Farmers salads. Just a couple of minutes later a friendly server brought my dinner to me asking if everything looked ok? I was also very impressed with the beautiful presentation of the salad, freshness, and how all of the flavors and textures came together. The only downside tonight was a less than stellar soda selection. But, the superb service more than overcame that and made them quite deserving of a five star rating and "two thumbs up"! read more

When we got to Modmarket today around 1pm, every table was occupied and there was a line. I now see why. It was awesome. I had the Thai Chicken sandwich. The bread was perfect. The combination of the herbs and vegetables was not only refreshing, but it tasted like authentic Thai food. Damn it was good. Trendy quick service restaurant with a twist - it's healthy. Very popular with area students and adults, this place was a nice alternative to your typical fast food. Strong emphasis on natural foods. I'm going to cut them some slack because they've just opened and may need some time to tweak things. But in all, our visit to Modmarket was pretty disappointing. A lot of what was wrong really came down to small details. One of the menu items we tried to order had been taken off the menu, but there was no indication of this until we tried to order it (despite electronic menu displays). The decor consists mostly of stark white walls and chairs; modern and minimalist and cool, except that the floors were in dire need of sweeping and the walls near our table were dirty, something you just can't get away with when you've opted for white as your main color. There was music playing, but you couldn't hear it over the ambient mechanical noises. The place is large, but it was nearly empty; along with the large staff mostly just standing around, the whole restaurant had the vibe and energy of a business that's been failing for months, not one that opened this week. And the number of staff just standing around made the wait a bit frustrating. We ordered two of the flatbread items (there are basically two options at Modmarket - flatbread pizzas and salads) and our order took over 15 minutes to arrive. That's not horrible at a full-on restaurant, but this place is set up for lunch crowds, and that lag isn't going to work. On top of all that, the food just wasn't that great. The flatbread was burnt and overwhelmed the taste of everything on it. And for all the talk to 'real' food, other than the cheese on my steak flatbread, everything tasted like it could have come from a frozen pizza box at the Safeway. In all, not a great experience. Maybe we'll give it another try in a few months, but for now we're steering clear. read more

I've been eating at this location for a few years now, usually enjoying the majority of their food and service. I've lived in Boulder for over a decade and have seen a lot of changes--not all good. I thought that Modmarket was pretty great for a while, but have seen how quickly a new concept can also decline. Recently, I've noticed more & more how much this Boulder location has gone downhill in both the food quality and customer service. I get take-out here when I've worked a long day, looking forward to some healthy, quality food so I don't have to cook. Tonight was the worst. There are quite a few disgruntled people who work here, and I had the misfortune of meeting two of them: a young kid at the register who rushed me through, and the older cook who prepared my food. Despite the fact that it wasn't busy, the register kid rushed me through my order, rudely grabbing & throwing my credit card back at me to get his job over with. (Totally unconscious/uncaring that I had already been very patient waiting in line for a long time). When called up to "build my salad", I asked the older guy cook for a couple sides of basil aioli instead of dressing, (approx. 1 tbs. each) & he told me I couldn't have it. No apology or explanation, just simply, no. So when I told him I'd always been given these every time, no issue, he tells me that they are not dressings, and won't be giving them out anymore. Really? 1 tbs. hurting the budget at this Boulder store? A full salad costs $11 & is merely decent, nothing extraordinary... He then angrily threw a basil aioli in the to-go container after I asked if I could just have one, and the rest of his team carelessly threw my salad in a bag to hurry me away. So weird to be treated with such disregard, when I've been a regular here for so long! I thought the customer was supposed to be treated well? This short, yet ugly experience left me wishing I'd never stopped in, despite having initially looked forward to a good, healthy dinner. Meanwhile at Modmarket in Denver, I've had the opposite experience. The people who work at any of the Denver locations are not only nice to you, they're completely courteous, generous & genuine about preparing and providing great food! Every time I've been to Modmarket in Denver, I'm so impressed at how much better their quality of food and service is compared to Boulder. Night & day different. Denver Modmarket knows what they're doing, and their cooks do a nice job of making this place what it's meant to be--by preparing delicious, fresh, quick & easy meals. The Boulder Modmarket is completely lacking when it comes to creating great tasting food. Everyone who works at this one acts like it's the biggest chore to have to make food look & taste great for the public! The customer service and cleanliness at Boulder Modmarket is really terrible in comparison to Denver. Boulder's Modmarket food is also so hit & miss, it's crazy I've continued to give them my money to try & get it right. It's really too bad when the Boulder location could be great if only they genuinely cared about what they claim to represent here. read more

Modmarket takes the Mad Greens concept a step further: It's gourmet salads PLUS sandwiches and pizza. Everything looked very good, especially my girlfriend's excellent choice of salad which included strawberries and corn together. Unfortunately while my Mozz sandwich LOOKED good, I felt like some ingredients were impossible to detect in the sandwich. It had balsamic dressing? You could have fooled me: I only noticed a thin slice of mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes between a halved ciabatta role. For all I know, the balsamic was left off entirely, which made for a dry, uninteresting lettuce and cheese sandwich. read more

I find a lot of places get away with sub-par food because they're "all-natural, organic, cost so much that they must be good" (cough Whole Foods hot bar), but I've never ever been disappointed with anything I've ordered at Mod Market and I've pretty much ordered it all. read more

Keep in mind that I am just reviewing the flat bread"pizza". The flat bread is not very good and I was really hoping it would be. We got the Pepe which was ok and also the Buffalo chicken one which was horrible. The Buffalo"pizza" hardly had any buffalo sauce on it so all you could taste was blue cheese. The salads and the soup looked pretty good so MAYBE we will go back for that but the flat bread is a waste of time. If you want pizza go get pizza, not flat bread. read more

The chicken on the Thai Coconut Salad was delicious, BUT the lettuce was really limp and the music and noise level was over the top. I could hardly hear the person taking my order and had to ask him to repeat himself several times. I will not be returning and would not recommend anyone eating here. read more
