When we checked in, we specifically requested indoor seating due to health reasons, but when our table was ready, we were taken to the patio in nearly 100 degree weather. After explaining that we had requested to sit inside, we were told it would be another 30 minute wait. During that time, we noticed multiple parties who arrived after us being seated first. At that point, we decided to leave. We have always loved Lucile's, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I've been going here since I attended CU in 1986 and any bad reviews lack the credibility of a person who has eaten here at least, and I don't exaggerate 100 times over the past 40 years. This is my favorite restaurant of the thousands I have eaten at in my lifetime. The eggs Pontchartrain and the eggs sardue are traditional and off the charts. Their hollandaise is devine the biscuits could double for pillows abd the stars if the show are actually drinks. The spiced tea is a burst of flavor and like the coffee sold in bulk. The chicory coffee is consistently wonderful and to top all this off the beignets make you wish you eaten your meal backwards. read more

Came on a Saturday morning expecting a wait, were seated right away for a party of 4. The service was fast and the food was so unique. It was my first time trying Cajun/Creole food and not to sound dramatic but I feel like I have been opened to a whole new world. My party orders: beignet, Shrimp po'boy, biscuits and gravy w gumbo, gumbo, and eggs Jennifer. All were solid items and we cleared our plates. If you're having trouble choosing I would recommend that gumbo. I'm not sure if it was the rainy day or circumstances but a bite of that gumbo felt like a warm hug. This is my absolute favorite Lucille's location. The food is great, it really takes me back to New Orleans! Everything from the eggs New Orleans to the blackened salmon and creole omelette. Just delicious. The staff is also very friendly! In particular Nikki goes out of her way to be friendly and engaging. CeCe and Shaylee are also very welcoming and nice. Stopped here during a road trip and we do not regret it! The service was prompt and the ambiance of the restaurant is very unique (the place is designed like a house so I essentially had to walk through someone's bed room to get to the bathroom lol). We absolutely loved coming here! This was my first time and it was a sweet first time. The restaurant is in a house and there are seating everywhere. There were also seats outside. If it were to be busy, it would be harder to be seated right away for I feel like it is a little limited. But overall, we did go on a Saturday morning and we did not have to wait to be seated for two. Our waitress to come to us right away and was very attentive. The tables does get cleared fast whenever dishes are being finished. Food: Gravy 4/5 -- this was great! The consistency was thick and chunky. The flavoring was really good, creamy, and a little spice to it! Shrimp and Grits 3/5 -- this wasn't a bad plate of food, I just wish there was more flavor and kick to this dish! I did enjoy this overall. Biscuit 5/5 -- the biggest and fluffiest biscuit I have had! Hands down the best biscuit. I'm very picky with my biscuits and I really enjoyed it. I had strawberry jam with mine and it was the perfect pair. The biscuits do come out fresh the oven as well! Beignets 5/5 -- these were so big, fluffy and wonderful!! SO good for breakfast! We visited Lucile's Creole Cafe on a Saturday morning and got seated right away, although the restaurant was very busy. They had a small (dog friendly) outdoor seating area in the front, which was basically on the street. Our server came over with menus right away, and we ordered Iced Coffee to start with. For food, I chose the Eggs New Orleans with Cheesy Grits, and it also came with a biscuit. I could write a paragraph about the biscuit alone, which was absolutely massive - I shared it between the three of us and we still didn't finish it. The taste was great and the texture was fluffy, not dry at all. The rhubarb jam was also phenomenal with it. My Eggs New Orleans was equally impressive - tasty eggplant, great sauce, perfectly poached eggs. The cheesy grits were possibly the best I've ever had, and overall this meal was just amazing. I'm a bit picky, I guess, but this spot just didn't do it for me. It's cute, but it's also cramped--the fact that I had a very large buffoon (who was driving the servers crazy demanding extra hollandaise, then even more) seated right next to me didn't help. He was also complaining about the lack of wet wipes (!). Of note: service is kind here. Moving on. They have chicory coffee--score! It's strong, it's a little bitter, and even though it was a million degrees outside I chugged it. I ordered an eggs Pontchartrain. It was...meh. The potatoes were lightly seasoned with cajun spice, but half were raw and half were burnt (ew). I wasn't a fan of their ketchup, either. Though I will give them credit for properly poaching the eggs, the hollandaise (!) and trout both needed a ton of seasoning. I found myself pouring salt from a shaker to make it taste decent. Finally, if you're going to open at 7am the restaurant should have biscuits ready by 7:45am. As is, I just went without--it was fine, but not exactly a good showing by the kitchen. Practical notes: this place gets busy fast, it's small but they do offer outside/patio seating, I didn't do much looking but the restaurant (frankly) didn't seem overly clean. Lucile's is operated out of a historic house one block north of the main downtown oval. Look for the sign by a parking meter. Go early to beat the crowd. I got a sense that the staff know how to make good food. The portions are generous. As one who was bred in the South, I'm happy to see the "caring grandma" tradition carried on. Similar to how ethiopian food back is the east bay CA always hits, Creole food always seems to be on point in colorado. If there is history behind this then excuse my ignorance. The other spot I went was when I was coming back from garden of the gods. But this place had the portions. That biscuit is absolutely massive and there's various jams on the table you can coat that bad boy with. We shared a round of beignets which if you haven't had is essentially and awesome, fluffy square donut. Was very pleased to learn that you could do half/half on the potato and grits sides since i wanted to try both. There's a cream spinach at a steakhouse back home that still has my heart, but this one was by no means a bad iteration. The shrimp was there. Really glad i split the sides, both were good. I love this place. We started with a plate of 4 beignets. I added the house made strawberry jelly on mine, it was so good, i wish i had one right now. The grits weren't covered in oil and oversalted like the Denver location. -Eggs New Orleans: Perfect eggs, crisp eggplant, and fluffy biscuit...Mm! Also, I hate hollandaise sauce because it's usually too heavy. But theirs is so light with a slight citrus undertone. I wished I had room for dessert but I'll definitely be back for more. The powdered sugar dusting was more of an avalanche, in true Denver fashion. Perhaps the kitchen was yearning for snow in the area. This was our favourite restaurant for many years. New owner in the last year. We came for a birthday celebration that was totally marred by the service. Unpleasant host who would not take responsibility for her omission to let us know about upcharges and also falsely told another server I cussed at her. When I gave my feed back to the owner he seemed understanding but really his apology was ..oops they never remember to explain the billing to customers.. really the best he could do.. and quickly hung up on me when I suggested a better customer service would have been to offer some compensation of any kind. I waited 35 minutes, exactly as the kind host predicted. I planned for that and just sat upstairs and read my book. My table was on the enclosed porch and had the pleasure of Ella's hospitality and service. She's kind and efficient without making you feel rushed. I highly recommend the Cajun breakfast with the jalapeño and cheese grits. Insert chef's kiss. So dang good. This little restaurant was recommended by a lady we met in Boulder. We decided to try it after looking at the menu and reviews. It was a cute place but not the best food. We ordered the biscuit which was excellent. I ordered The Jennifer Benedict and I t was alright, arrived to the table at room temperature. My husband ordered the Cajun Omelet which was good but not really bursting with flavors of real Creole food. We also ordered one beignet to try but does not compare to the New Orleans one's.
